I hate going to the dentist. Admittingly, it is very stressful for me. Years back, my old dentist who was very good, sold out to a corporate outfit. My first visit with the "new dentist" there said I had to have 3 fillings replaced. Clearly they were driven by revenue with no regard for the patient. I told them "no thanks" and left for good. I asked a dental hygienist who I met at a party who she would recommend seeing given she had worked in many dental offices, she said Sansome Dental. My first visit there, guess what, no additional work required on my first visit. I have now been at Sansome Dental care patient here for several years (by the way, they never suggested replacing any of my fillings to this day). For the last couple of years, I have been seeing Dr. Katie Joyce who is phenomenal. She is not only a lovely person, but she is an astute expert at dentistry who prioritizes the patients health and needs above all. Most important, I trust her! I continue to drive into the city just to see Dr. Joyce twice a year for my dentistry needs. Went here recently after moving from Chicago to SF and someone recommended this place. Really impressed. Very thoughtful and attentive staff, they remembered little details about me and what we talked about on the phone. Easy enough to get appointments for me and my husband on short notice. Very transparent about my insurance and what I'd have to pay/process for reimbursement. Dr. Moran and everyone else was so friendly, gentle, answered all my questions, and fixed my chipped teeth up good as new. Gladly going back every six months from now on. read more

Dr. Moran rules! He is really nice and gentle with his scary tools. Plus you can get music to listen to while you're being worked on. The rest of the staff here are awesome as well. Blenda, Irena, and Liz treat you very well, and make you feel at home. Shoot, it might as well have been my home, since I was coming here every week for a couple months getting work done. I guess that's what happens when you don't go to the dentist for 13 years. 16 cavitities, 14 fillings, 2 root canals and crowns later, and I'm sitting pretty. Well, not entirely, as I now have Invisalign to straigthen my synthetic teeth. But hey, at least I can use the following pick-up line now: "Have you ever kissed a man with Invisalign before?" Just finished a 6-month course of Invisalign w/ Dr. Moran and am psyched that I will have a million dollar smile for my wedding. My bottom teeth are perfectly straight, and since I have been bleaching at the same time they are white white white. Wooo! I also had him fill a cavity a couple of months ago and he used the white filling so you can't even see it. Also, no pain or anything - totally easy. I can say I grew up with Sansome Dental. When I checked in today, I saw my weight chart recorded my weight at 50 pounds! When did I ever weigh fifty pounds! I guess, so my chart reports, in 1993 I weighed 50 pounds. Crazy. Anyway, Sansome Dental is a great place -- the people are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Dr. Moran is a great dentist and so are the other assistants. My only gripe would be that he is there only Mon-Thurs but, hey, no such thing as perfect. read more

Terrible practice. I owed $769 because my insurance lapsed and when my procedure was done they told me I had coverage...I would have never gotten fillings knowing my insurance was not effective, and I trusted them as they said I was all good. They took me to small claims court over it and now it's displayed for all to see on google. So petty for a dentist on Sansome in SF. Honestly, over the last six years my visits were subconciously determined by my huge crush on my own Dr. McDreamy who sadly moved to Chicago last year. I think every young lady in the Financial District had heard of him. Hence, my chronic bi-monthly toothaches in a lowcut top stopped real fast. But, I'm happy to report that I enjoy his replacement, Dr. Tiller, for the real reasons one should enjoy the dentist - comfort and personal care. Bonus: he has a personality. My favorite dentist office, period. When selecting an oral care provider, I choose based on two things: dentist + staff. On dentist, what matters: professionalism, trust, skills, education, history, reviews, bedside manner, equipment, technology, cleanliness, availability, etc. Dr. Moran (Sean) gets high marks across the board on this and is an easy choice. He is also very easy to talk to, answering any question you may have and being completely open to your thoughts. On Staff - most folks don't even consider the rest of the staff at the office when making the choice. Big mistake! Let's be honest, most of your time will be spent working with and relying on the rest of the folks in the office for everything - scheduling, re-scheduling, billing, insurance questions, follow up, chit chat in waiting room, etc. How is Sansome Dental Care's staff? Flawless and very easy to work with on everything. Short story, Blenda leads the team and she runs an incredibly tight ship. She is an absolute pleasure to deal with, always. We all know that having someone like Blenda is not a given in a professional services environment, but when you find it, you thank your lucky stars. So, Sean is great; Blenda is great. Dr. Moran has completely changed my outlook on the field of dentistry. Everyone on his staff is patient and friendly, and Dr. Moran never makes me feel inferior or rushed when I'm in the chair. When one of my Invisalign trays cracked last weekend, I was able to call him directly and get prompt advice. What a refreshing surprise! I'm 1/3 of the way into my Invisalign treatment, and am so pleased with the results. I've never had a hard time scheduling appointments, and I feel that Moran and his team genuinely care about my happiness and success. I have to give Dr. Moran and his entire staff five stars. He epitomizes, for a young guy, compassion and gentleness, and has seen me mouth from several crowns, replacing all of my old silver fillings with new white fillings, a jacket, several bleachings, and even one crown that he did when I first was seeing him that finally had to be replaced due to its age! That's how long I have been going to him. The beauty part, for me, is that he is just around the corner where I work so I can schedule my appointments for five minutes after I leave work. I am sad that when I retire I am going to have to give him up as he takes Delta Dental but not the type that my HMO provider will provide when I stop working. I joked with him that he has to finish any major work I have before I retire and it looks like we have run out of projects finally on that score! He doesn't do root canals himself but will refer to a good endodontist at the 450 Sutter Street building. His equipment is state-of-the-art and he is able to instantly send x-ray pictures of your mouth by e-mail to him as needed. read more

Dr. Moran is a kind, smart, gentle, and efficient dentist. I have been going to him for as long as I can remember. I have received Invisalign treatment and have had numerous cavities filled. I have also used the bleaching kits and they have been helpful. For anyone that is scared of visiting the dentist, don't be, because you will never feel pain during a cavity filling because he numbs you up correctly. You can also listen to opera and numerous different albums from his large selection. One time he gave me nitrous when I asked for it when I had 2 cavities done and after breathing some of that in through my nose my mind was easily elsewhere. Dr. Moran and his office rocks. They are professional, always on top of everything and it is a PLEASURE going to his office!. I have had lots of work done on my teeth and I have NEVER had a problem with Dr. Moran or his office. His office always contacts me in plenty of time prior to my appointment. If I have to change my appointment, they are extremely forgiving and work around MY schedule. When I arrive at his newly remodeled office, they are always pleasant and friendly. During the appointment, Dr. Moran is always letting me know what is taking place and reviewing the process every step of the way. I would recommend Dr. Moran in a heartbeat. I've been going to Dr Moran since 1997. I totally trust him. Dr Moran and his team have consistently provided exceptional service year after year. While I've changed primary care doctors (& banks) out of disgust more than once it is Dr Moran (and Sansome Dental as a whole) that have kept me 100% loyal. They have always been gentle, considerate, kind, efficient and absolutely wonderful. Whether it's Blenda on the phone, Liz who does my cleanings, or Irina or others it has always been a pleasant experience. Now I don't have insurance but I still go here because it's absolutely worth it. Particularly after reading all the horror stories about UCSF Dental School's two SF locations that still cost more. Not only is it far too long, no one cares about where you stayed and how good your insurance is (just be grateful for what you have!), but it is also blasphemy and lies. This Amira woman never even entered the dentist office of Dr. Moran so how does she know anything significant about how he runs his dental practice? I have been going to the same old fashioned family dentist for my entire life, but when I met Dr. Moran I finally understood what a real compassionate dentist should be like, caring, honest, and very gentle. I went from always leaving the dentist office in pain to leaving with a smile on my face and happy for my positive opportunity with a dentist (when most people aren't even able to receive dental care at all!!). This Amira T. apparently has no idea what a good dentist feels like (or bad for that matter), because I have never had a better experience in the infamous chair. I've been coming to Sansome Dental for almost 7 years - since I first moved to the city back in 2001. The convenient downtown location makes it easy to get to appointments since I can schedule them during the work day. Blenda, the receptionist, is super sweet; I actually thought her name was Glenda for the last 7 years until I finally took a look at their website and Yelp reviews. I love my hygienist Liz who is very competent and gentle with her cleanings. She's super nice and always gives me extra goodies to take home. I can't say I have much experience with Dr. Moran who just basically stops by at the end of the appointment to poke around in my mouth to check for cavities and what not. Dr. Sean C. Moran is my new favorite amazing most impressive dentist EVER! I go in for my regular check up. I've been flossing everyday for 2 years b/c I want to impress Liz, my cute hygienist who makes it all the more worth while to floss for. I also remember this stupid fuggin' poster from my childhood that read (say this in a annoying high-pitched voice) "You don't have to floss all your teeth, only the ones you want to keep"!!! Stupid a$$holes who made that stick in my head for 31 stupid years. I swear, this is the reason I suck so bad at Trivial Pursuit. Things like this are in there and have roots waaaay deeper than some pop-culture stuff that actually matters come PubQuiz time. Anywho, I'm good now, no more slacking on my mouth care. I've been slowly replacing all my old amalgam fillings with the nice and clean looking composite ones so as to hide how little brushing I did as a child. One of them was so deep it required my very first Crown! Yes, I'm finally getting the royal treatment I deserve. Except, not so much and it costs a freakin' grip! Ok ok, back to Dr. Sean C. Moran. He fits me for my crown 2 weeks ago and temporarily caps me. Its now time to pay(for real) the piper. Last Thursday he puts my crown on in no time without even numbing me and it is as painless as can be. Literally a "snap" in with some liquid nails or whatever the use to keep it there for the 10 year or so life span crowns have (what incentive to live long, more crowns...a very dull yay!). Then he numbs my upper left side, drills out 2 oldies and fills them. All this in under a hour. Painless. Easy. Dare I say, pleasant?!?!? I was eating beef jerky that night and steak over the weekend!!!! Its like I didn't even miss a beat or rather...a bite. If I ever move towns, I'll fly back twice a year for check-ups. My husband and I have been going here for over a year. The offices are conveniently located downtown (near Peet's, Wafare Tavern, Tammy's Nails). We've been to several dentists in San Francisco, including some of the top rated on Yelp (horrible experiences, actually, including onion breath and no gloves! Ew!). And I had some great dentists back home, so I feel like I know what I'm talking about. I've been very pleased with my dental care at Sansome. Dr. Moran saw me once on short notice for a toothache, and Liz is truly the best hygeinist I've ever had. My teeth have never felt cleaner - consistently! She gets in there and CLEANS! No nonsense. At the front desk, Blenda is wonderful at scheduling, checking insurance, etc. She even arranged to open the office specially for me earlier this year because they didn't realize they'd booked my appointment on President's Day. As an accountant who has no concept of when Presidents' day is because I'm always working through it, this was a small but not unnoticed kindness. Blenda even checked to make sure my car didn't get towed that morning. She always calls to confirm a few days in advance. The office maintains excellent records, too, including computerized x-rays that you can see right away. Every time I go in, the team follows up on past issues. They do their job and beyond. BEST Dentist & Dental Office EVER!! Dr. Sean Moran and his ENTIRE STAFF are EXCELLENT (Blenda and Irina, especially). Thank you all!! Ive gone here for 10+ years and recently moved away. I've had 3x per year cleanings (excellent), and have had VERY long-lasting and subtle tooth-bonding repair by Dr. Moran, which is a repair process to fix 2 minor chips in my front teeth without the need for crowns. I did Invisilign here to refresh my childhood braces after my lower teeth went crooked. Invisilign was quick and easy & totally worth it. I've had replacement retainers made here and wear them every night to prevent tooth grinding and keep the teeth well-aligned. I have had 1 minor cavity fixed and it was well done and painless. If noise bothers you, they give you headphones and music. If you have sensitive teeth, they'll paint desensitizing stuff on your teeth before cleaning them. I will miss coming here, but luckily have just found another good dentist in my new town! :-) read more
