I'm in my 70s and have had a fair amount of dental work over the years so I am pleased to share that Dr. Bidgol and her excellent staff have provided exceptional care over the past two years. Dr. Bidgol is a talented practitioner and a wizard at color matching with my existing crowns. I have had two crowns and an extraction during this period and am completely satisfied with her work. Dr. Bidgol's Office Manager Arash is a warm and caring person who ensures my treatment costs and billing dates work with my somewhat limited financial resources. I have never been made to feel uncomfortable when discussing treatment options and have never felt pushed to accept a treatment option that wasn't medically indicated. Finally, their receptionist Heather is both professional and personable. I highly recommend Nob Hill Dental to anyone looking for a new dental partner. read more

I noticed another review here also stating something similar that happened to me so I wanted to share. On the first visit they seemed nice, nothing out of the ordinary except pushing me to buy a very specific toothpaste that I could only get from them. I declined it but didn't think much and scheduled my follow-up. For my next dental visit several months later I had the same experience as another reviewer here, where Dr. B told me my teeth were in terrible shape and I needed a deep cleaning. I thought this was weird as I take very good care of my teeth, and the ironic thing is that while the dental hygienist was looking at my teeth during the same appointment they commented on how I had very minimal plaque buildup. I told them I wanted to get the regular cleaning like I had scheduled but they refused to do it that day and told me we had to reschedule it on a separate day for me to come back and for me to think about the deep cleaning. This was super frustrating as I had already taken off work for my regular cleaning and I was leaving without one. The worst part was as I was leaving, the front desk receptionist took another 10 minutes of my time to give me a long pitch of why I should buy the deep cleaning and how their establishment is not out to make money, etc. It made me extremely uncomfortable and confused. To no surprise, the estimate of the deep cleaning came out to be over 400 dollars out of pocket. My relationship has also since ended with them and I will not be returning. Believe it or not, Nob Hill Dental has quickly become one of my favorite places in the city. I moved to SF a little over 2 years ago, and swear I stumbled upon the most caring group of people here. Not only is the dental work fantastic (Dr. Bidgol performed an emergency extraction late on Friday night for me because I was in so much pain.... keep in mind it was the same day I showed up seeking help - that's how much she cares) but the staff is remarkable! From the front desk to the dental assistants to Dr. Bidgol, you will be treated like you're part of the Nob Hill family. I am still dealing with the insurance on the charges they made. really unprofessional. especially the assistant ,she was teaching him manners while working on my teeth. I should have followed my gut feelings when they gave me a million forms to fill out and a credit card number and $150.00 late fee if you cancel in less than three days. I explained what I want from the first visit,they billed the insurance but never got back to me. and please be careful of the term they use ESTIMATE that means they will charge you more because you already fell in the trap and signed the forms. don't go there. read more

This is a really interesting dental practice. I have above-average knowledge of dental practices, as my Dad was a dentist and I used to work as a dental assistant in his practice prior to his death. I have knowledge of how things should be/operate in a successful practice. Finding a new dentist is often an emotional process for me and I was hoping Nob Hill Dental would be a good experience. It's conveniently located for me and had stellar Yelp reviews when I first looked it up (back in early 2023), so I made a dental appointment for a cleaning. Unfortunately, from the get-go, bizarre things happened. Dr. B has always been kind and friendly to me, and her receptionist is also friendly. However, the dental care was not as expected. In my first visit, the gentleman tasked with taking my x-rays was unable to do so using the adult-sized equipment. So, we moved on to the child-sized equipment, which also wasn't working. He ended up taking dozens of x-rays using the infant-sized equipment. The whole process took 45 minutes just to take my x-rays, which is never a comfortable process, and left my gums bruised and bleeding. I may have a small jaw/mouth, but no one has ever had to use infant-sized equipment on me before in any time in my 38 years! The cleaning proceeded normally from there and I set up my 6-month appointment, hoping this x-ray experience was a one-off. At my next cleaning appointment, they told me I needed a deep cleaning appointment and quoted me over $1000 for it. I declined the appointment so that I could get a second opinion from a different dentist, who gave me the all-clear. My relationship with Nob Hill Dental ended after the $1000 cleaning recommendation, but my partner was not so lucky. She wanted to get a veneer replaced, as it was a different color than her other teeth (from a motorcycle accident.) Dr. B assured her she was an expert in veneers and it was her specialty area. Multiple failed veneer attempts later, my partner is out thousands of dollars, hours of time away from work, and her tooth is noticeably about 2-3 shades darker than it was when she her initial veneer. Further dental mishaps have occurred here, and I am so sad that I recommended this practice to her in the first place. Since the veneer debacle, my partner has had a tooth wholly removed and bone grafts in place, and now we will have to find a new dentist willing to complete this dental work, as she was publicly shamed in Dr. B's office last week when she questioned her quote. I'm especially devastated because I know my Dad would have taken care of everything correctly the first time, with minimal pain, and my partner has really been put through the wringer from a financial and pain perspective at this process. Worst of all, we have zero trust in Dr. B and fear her recommendations were financially motivated. Her behavior is neither professional nor kind when she receives criticism. I'm sure she will provide a defensive response to my review, as seen from other reviews, but visiting (and recommending) this practice is one of my greatest regrets of my time living in the city. Bad experience -- I have serious concerns about the treatment recommendations here. Two experiences raised red flags, mine and my partner's. I went in shortly after moving to SF. My previous dentist had been monitoring a few potential cavities over years, none requiring work. First visit here, suddenly multiple cavities needed treatment. The hygienist was on her first day, and the x-ray bite blocks didn't fit properly. My gums were painful for two weeks afterward to the point where eating was difficult. My partner's experience concerned me more. They did periodontal depth probes and found a maximum pocket depth of 2.8 mm, then recommended she get two deep cleanings, each covering half the mouth and requiring anesthesia, citing bone loss. It's easy to look up that 3 mm is generally considered healthy and that pockets greater than 4 mm are typically the threshold for deep cleaning. I'd encourage anyone to get a second opinion before agreeing to major procedures here. I won't be returning. read more

Absolute TRASH of an establishment. The office assistant, Arash, has no clue what he's doing. Arash raised his voice at me, was extremely disrespectful, and very MISOGYNISTIC. He was yelling and calling me names over the phone. I can't believe they would ever treat a patient like this. If they treated me like this, they'll treat other patients like this. I repeatedly asked him to hold a respectful and professional tone and he proceeded to YELL. He definitely has anger issues and needs extreme mental help. I've never been treated so POORLY in my life. They charged me an extra cost for a comprehensive exam without letting me know ahead of time. I called my insurance and they said the clinic should have done their due diligence to check what patients are covered for. The clinic told my insurance that they did a comprehensive exam and when I went they did not do anything special. I specifically said I only want a routine cleaning. They also charged me for an x-ray and they did not perform one. We had a 3 way call with Arash and my insurance. Arash stated he would refund me and a month later, I called and he said he wouldn't refund me. He put misplaced blame on me because the insurance did not respond to him. He started to accuse me and said that was my fault lol. This place is definitely trying to profit off their patients. Do NOT trust them. I would never recommend this place, please AVOID at all costs!!! ALSO FIRE ARASH! He's a horrible person and is probably unhappy in his own personal life. I've been coming here since 2016. Great place with great customers service from front to back office. I love how nice and patience the dentist is with me. She always explain everything to me before doing any procedures and is always making sure I'm comfortable and pain free as much as possible. Very professional place and staff. Dental records are covered by HIPAA laws passed in 1996 - REFUSING TO RELEASE PATIENT RECORDS VIOLATES FEDERAL LAW! Annnnddd... here's their response, weeks later - "Sorry computers are down. Cannot do anything until fixed". If you expect your dentist to follow federal law or feel uncomfortable visiting a dentist without computer technology in 2022, look elsewhere!!! Clearly this practice has been here a while and has been good in the past, but new management under Dr. Bidgol has clearly lost it. Couldn't see me for weeks, and when I did come in, what has taken every other dentist I've ever visited under an hour, took them three. As a new patient, I feel that Dr. Bidgol did nothing but attempt to talk me into expensive, invasive and unnecessary procedures. She used jargon and scare tactics to convince me that although I have no pain or discomfort, and I visited my previous, long-time dentist only 4 months prior and he gave me a clean bill of dental health, that I now have gum disease and am at risk of losing teeth and/or having a stroke. Also that I need to have my one and only filling replaced for some reason, even though it was done so well that I don't even remember where it is, let alone have any issues with it. (She found it on one of her 16 x-rays.) The only thing of substance which came of this appointment was a bill for $1125, $222 out of pocket. Dr. Bidgol saw dollar signs in my dental insurance, and milked it for all it was worth while I suffered the consequences. Don't visit this practice - I won't be returning. There are lots of good (and honest) dentists in this city. Find a different one. read more

Usually, I feel nervous when visiting the dentist in the past. Now, I finally found a place where I actually feel relaxed about my appointments. The staff is really nice, a reflection of the their boss, and it's an overall welcoming office. Appointments can be a bit busy but they definitely try to work with you especially if it's urgent. They send follow up text messages and can be reached easily by phone, text or email. They are transparency about the cost and services being performed, they work hard to get accurate billing and payments from my insurance. I feel confident in their skills and the treatments that I've received, they are very considerate of their patients. For my experience, it's always a friendly environment. I would highly recommend if anyone is looking for a reliable and thoughtful dentist. read more

Very unprofessional office. I waited for over an hour for my appointment. I kept asking how long the wait was and there was no real answer. I finally left because there was no indication that they would ever be ready for me and I had another appointment coming up. Prior to the appointment, they texted and called me 5 times, changing my appointment time at least 3 times. It was originally 9:45am, then it was 9:40am, and finally the morning of I received a text that it was 9:50am. The office just changed owners and apparently they have no idea what they're doing. I would NOT recommend this dentist at all. They don't know how to handle scheduling appointments, which is a basic function of a dentist office. read more

When I had an urgent dental issue, she got me in to see her ASAP and got me in to a same-day referral to an endodontist. She followed up on my care and provided additional referrals. I've been with this practice for several years now and transitioned over from the previous dentist to Dr Bidgol. I found the transition smooth and the new service excellent. Just before Christmas I chipped a tooth which had been on the 'repair' radar for a while, Dr Bidgol, found time to see me the next day and offered me several treatment solutions. We settled on one which worked for me (and was less expensive than the alternative). She handled the procedure with care and empathy, explaining every stage making sure I was calm and relaxed throughout. I just had a following up appointment and the good service and chair side manner continue. Highly recommend. read more

An absolute scam of a dentistry. Do not go here. The new management ruined a well established dentistry in SF. The previous owner was kind, hard working and had a warm demeanor. I had zero concerns or issues with the previous owner and when reading at all the previous reviews before the new management, I would certainly agree with all the positive remarks and commentary about Nob Hill dental. However, since the new management came in, there has been nothing but concerns and questionable business ethics and morals. If you see the new Dr she will use jargon and scare tactics to get you to have a dental procedure you do not need. For example, she tricked me into getting a crown that I did not need, then my tooth got infected and then I had to have a root canal procedure. Which at first the dentist insisted that I was experiencing allergies and had a sinus infection for going outside with wet hair!? Which is a strange assumption to make when someone is complaining of tooth pain and headaches. I am now being charged over a 1k because they decided to not take my insurance around the time of my crown replacement. They did not inform me of this at the time of my procedure (which was in September 2021) and recently lied on the phone saying they contacted the patient (which I have no records of them contacting me, even though they have all my information). All the documents I signed said $0 since I was double covered and at the time they took my insurance. Now 9 months later I'm getting billed and they gave me one week to pay. On top of that, they are very unprofessional when responding to clients within a timely manner. As they will not answer the phone when you call and take 3 days to return your call. It is extremely disappointing that the new management and owner ruined the reputation of a once well established density in SF Nob Hill. read more

I had my upcoming appointment scheduled 6 months ago, and Dr. Bidgol canceled my existing appointment the night before at literally 1AM. That is 1AM in the middle of the night!! They expect us as patients to give 2 business days courtesy when canceling or changing appointments, yet they did not give me the same courtesy. Had been coming her before the transition of management and it was great. I had recommended this place to several friends. As soon as the transition in management happened, this place went down the tube. I had FOUR appointments over the course of 2 months that were CANCELED by the office at the very last minute with no explanation. The last cleaning I had was terrible -- the hygienist could barely floss my teeth. He kept getting the floss stuck on the way up the tooth and couldn't get it down so would just pull it through the tooth. Worst dental cleaning I've ever had in my 31 years. While I appreciate the convenience of this office being a block from my apartment and the doctor doing a great job on a couple fillings in the past, my most recent experience has left an extremely bad taste in my mouth, pun intended. I let the doctor know I wasn't able to make an 8am appointment the morning of because I have shingles. (Not fun) She answered the call, but after I explained my situation, passed the phone to her receptionist without saying a word. Her receptionist then told me they'll graciously waive the $100 fee this time, but that next time I need to let them know 48hrs in advanced - Apparently people wait 6 months to book this time slot. She also kept emphasizing they reserved this time just for me - Isn't that the point of any appointment?? I understand cancelation policies for those who abuse the system, but emergencies in life happen. They both really lacked any genuine compassion and seemed more pissed they came in early for nothing. 1. I booked this appointment 2 weeks ago, not 6 months ago. 2. Nobody can predict having shingles nor how they make you feel day to day. 3. A little compassion from the doctor, who answered the phone herself, and the receptionist who simply said, "call us back when you can come in" would've been customer service 101. With so many amazing, skilled dentists that have more up to date offices in SF, I will be taking my teeth elsewhere. read more

After a few dentists in San Francisco that weren't that great, I was happy to find Nob Hill Dental and have been there 3 times (twice for biannual cleanings and once for a filling). The first time, I really liked the dental hygienist I had. Unfortunately I forgot his name but he was really thorough and the thing that set him apart was how well he explained things and offered tips and helpful advice. The hygienist the second time was fine too but a little more consistent with what I have seen elsewhere. The hygienists do most of the cleaning and then Dr. Pham comes in towards the end to look over things and do a teeth check up. Unlike some dentists where there are a bunch of different dental assistants and things, I have usually just had the hygienist and then the dentist here (as far as I remember). Lisa the receptionist is great and they do a good job of following up and reminding you of your appointments, both by mail, by text message, and by phone. Maybe that seems aggressive to some but I appreciated the reminders. You can make appointments through ZocDoc but that doesn't always show everything so it helps to call and see if they have a time that works for you. They are also open every other Saturday which is really convenient. And if you visit multiple times, all your insurance information is on record (permitting it is the same) which makes the appointments really fast. Parking in the neighborhood isn't great but I found nearby spots each time I drove there (once on a Saturday and once on an early weekday afternoon). I haven't had to wait much for my appointments but if you do wait, there are plenty of magazines and also free WiFi. read more

I am so happy that I found Dr. Bidgol and Nob Hill Dental, My previous dentist (for years) retired about 5 years ago and i have been lost since - the one he sent his patients over to price gauged me for a check up, then i switched to a dental HMO that was filthy and wanted to do scaling on all my gums - which freaked me out since even a regular cleaning was painful from them... then 3 years went by and just before thanksgiving i had an abscess... looked up a dentist nearby from Guardian insurance site and found Nob Hill Dental - when I told them I was in pain, they got me in the next day! (Note: this is why sometimes they take longer to get you in and out - I just include extra time around my appointment knowing they are helping people in pain in addition to regular appointments). The energy in the office is amazing - the staff couldn't be kinder and Dr. Bigdol is so talented and has a great chairside manner - she did such an amazing job on my gums - the entire thing was PAIN FREE.( i was waiting for the pain to hit after the numbing wore off and it never came.) . After not seeing a dentist for 3 years, i've been in 3 times in 3 weeks and the staff feel like family, my teeth look amazing and my gums don't bleed anymore. I am so grateful. read more

Just had a great experience with Dr. Lieu. It's been a few years since my last cleaning and I was in need of finding a new dentist. I am so happy to have found Nob Hill Dental! The receptionist was SOO nice and super accommodating with getting me scheduled. Alice was my hygienist and she was really quick with the xrays and polishing, making a sometimes uncomfortable process really painless. Dr. Lieu was on time and didn't give me any grief about going so long between cleanings. She was really informative and very thorough without hurting my sensitive teeth even once! I had to bring my newborn with me and everyone was really nice about it! I don't have dental insurance and found the prices to be very competitive with what I've been quoted from other practices. I went to both Dr. Pham and Dr. Bigdol. Both great doctors and people. Dr. Bigdol has improved my gum and teeth health significantly in the past 6 months and has done it with kindness and patience. I think she is genuinely kind and caring and I had great experiences with her and her current staff. I don't think she's trying to just charge me for things I don't need. Below are details on my experience with her getting a deep cleaning and a cavity filling. She recommended a deep cleaning for me after measuring my gum pockets in the regular checkup. I needed a deep cleaning but other dentists hadn't told me to date. She didn't push me to do one, she told me I had peridontontitis, explained what it was and risk factors, and to do more research online. After research, I decided to get the deep cleaning. I cannot even explain how kind and patient Dr. Bigdol was cause I was scared my first time, she even offered that we don't need to do the procedure right then and I can come back to get it done and she won't charge me for the visit if I don't go through with it. My gums are much better and healthy now which I know by the improved gum pocket measurements and how they look. Also, my one tooth that always gave me trouble while brushing and flossing no longer does. She also helped me get my dental hygiene right to prevent issues. At the time I started going to her, I was already flossing every day and cleaning my tongue and the whole routine. She gave me a different tongue cleaner and gum that helps with cavities (for free) and explained how to floss and brush my teeth. I was doing the right things but not the right way and I can't believe how much they've improved my teeth and gums already. I also got a cavity filled with her and she only did the work cause I brought up the tooth was bothering me. She mentioned otherwise the amount of bacteria she is seeing means the other cavities are reversible at this point so she doesn't want to the work unless it's needed. I noticed in previous reviews, a lot of comments were the result of a small business starting pains like hiring, transferring paperwork, etc. which are not great for the customers or the dentist office. Dr. Bigdol very quickly acted on all these. The staff is excellent now, they have all the paperwork transferred, and a good process with insurance. I'll admit there was a short window when it wasn't perfect but it is hard to get a small business up and running. Dr. Bigdol did it quickly and her expertise, care, and empathy outshine the temporary getting a small business up and running pain points. Which again she's worked through very quickly. I love her current office staff! All experienced, great people who know what they're doing. read more

Came in for a first time clean. Dr lu was the first dentist that was able to get some floss in between my front bottom teeth! I have TMJ And for years I've been told i got it from grinding but she thoroughly explained the exact reason and it was eye opening. I need to stop wearing a retainer that I've previously warn that could damage it further. I'll be coming back! read more

Update: Suggested me to go remove wisdom tooth and it was the best decision ever, now I don't need to worry about cleaning those tooth as important as it is. CONFESSION: I dumped my fancy, downtown, famous dentist for a small neighborhood dentist. Who is he? Dr. Danny Wong! A dentist I went in to 5 years ago (once) when I was very poor. His office is across the street from my old apartment on Pacific and he offered a very reasonable cleaning for someone poor like I was. Why am I back, five years later? Because my fancy dentist had a 9-month waiting list for a routine cleaning. WTF? I thought you're supposed to go every 6 months? So, I remembered and called Dr. Wong and booked my appointment for two months away. I was blown away by his office and how it's grown and changed in 5 years. He has a much more modern set up than my fancy old dentist --- my xrays came out in like 45 seconds on to a computer screen right above the chair. And also, HE does your cleaning, not a grumpy dental hygienist who you know will inevitably lecture you on the ever-entertaining subject of tartar and then make you feel like a 3rd grader when pestering you to "floss more!" Dr. Danny Wong is not just your average neighborhood dentist; he's completely modern, he has the sweetest/gentlest disposition (I almost want to be afraid of the dentist to test how kind he can be) and a great sense of humor. Just moved to the city and having to start all over again with finding dentists, dry cleaning, coffee shops, etc. After years of braces and dental procedures, I absolutely dread going to the dentist, much less starting all over with a new dentist. Good vibes all around when dealing with Nob Hill Dental. I've had my share of good docs and bad docs. If a doc makes the effort to talk to you without having the face mask covering their face, that's a good start! But even before: I made my appointment talking with Henry, one of the office staff. He's really nice. The receptionist was really nice. I dragged myself in off the street sort of sopping wet from the drizzle and instantly felt comforted by the cushy chairs and the calm demeanor of the staff. Pon took my bite-wing extras and was also very pleasant and chatted a bit. Dr. Pham came in and she introduced herself. I learned that she spent some time growing up here in San Francisco in the Richmond district before her family moved to San Jose. She's East Coast trained from a fancy school (NYU) and returned here to the Bay Area. I like that! Dr. Pham is very professional and gets down to the dental work at hand. She doesn't mess around. She made an effort to get to know me - which I don't think any dentist has E-V-E-R tried to do. This was a meaningful relationship in the making :) She's super caring to make sure that you're okay with what she's doing. If you're experiencing any pain, raise your hand! I've been coming to Dr. Pham for a few years, she's really thorough, patient, and informative. Always gently reminding me to floss more often (or floss better). Also I was caught between jobs once and turned out not to be insured - doc brought down the cost for me then so I was able to pay. That's pretty stellar service! Lisa is also one of the friendliest receptionists I've ever met at a dentist P.S.
