I'm writing this review for two reasons: one, to talk about the amazing food, and two, to let the staff know how grateful I am for helping me through a very uncomfortable situation I found myself while visiting Aspen for a work trip. A woman I met on the plane from Denver told me this was one of her two favorite places in town, so naturally I had to find it. As I was walking over, a complete stranger struck up a conversation, and being friendly, I chatted with him along the way. Before I knew it he was telling me he wanted to come eat with me, and I could not get my "No" out fast enough. I quickly realized he was under the influence, dealing with a mental health issue, or both and I wasn't sure how to free myself from him. I didn't even know his name. Once we sat down, I excused myself to the bathroom so I could tell the staff I had no idea who he was, or whether he intended to pay or expected me to. I'm not writing this to demonize the poor man, who at the end of the day was clearly pulling on some unconscious compassion. I'm writing it to thank the staff. Everyone was so kind, asking if I was okay, assuring me they'd split the check, and I think one of them even offered to walk me out the back if I wanted an escape route. We made it through dinner, he paid for himself, and I figured out how to shake him loose afterward. I'm so grateful for all the checking in you did throughout the evening, and for helping me not overreact. I'd wanted an app, a salad, a dessert. I also needed to get out of there. The bread was super yum, the Bolognese was decadent, and the Tuscan Chardonnay was gorgeous. I'll recommend this place to everyone. Sorry for bringing drama into your establishment. I'm sure a Michelin-adjacent restaurant doesn't need that on a Sunday. Thanks again for the great food and the great, above-and-beyond service. read more

Awesome experience at Sant Ambroeus. Everything is super pricy, but the service made up for it. The food and cocktail we ordered were all exceptionally good. I added some pictures of the cocktail menu for current price info, since their website doesn't specify prices. Id sit inside instead of outside next time, but otherwise we had a wonderful meal. read more

Everything about this restaurant was so lovely! I felt like we walked into another world. The decor was so classy and cozy at the same time. It was pretty loud but if it were library quiet it would feel awkward having conversations in such close proximity. The service was great and very accommodating to my gluten allergy even providing crackers with our appetizers. These crackers were so good I had to confirm they were GF. So, we had the hamachi crudo as well as the beef carpaccio as an appetizer. Both were fantastic. I was especially drawn to the pasta dishes since there was a gluten free option. I got the bolognese & my husband got the ravioli (which of course was not a GF option). We also had wine by the glass that was recommended. Another thing we both noted was that the portions were larger than we expected. I was not able to finish my pasta dish one- because it was a large portion and two- our appetizers were a good size and quite filling. We ended with the gelato dessert along with coffee. The dessert was soooo good & so was the coffee! This will be a place we revisit when we come to Aspen. read more

Paccheri Rosa was cooked perfectly al dente with umami roasted or stewed tomatoes. Could have used more salt in the rose sauce which was a bit rich but the tomatoes were very flavorful so I made sure there was some tomato in every bite. The torched salmon sashimi was delicious and so fresh. Capers was with broiled tomatoes which was ok but not great. Would eat here again. like all the other Aspen restaurants, pricey but not the tastiest food I've had but good quality. Outstanding staff, good food, wonderful desserts and a good wine list. Gnocchi were delicious. Price as you'd expect for Aspen.

We enjoyed a special dinner before going to the Opera House which was a short walk away. The raviolis and eggplant parmigiana were delicious. The staff spent extra time ensuring that we had a special evening. We sat on the patio. Beautiful experience. read more

We arrived and were seated by a snotty receptionist. The place was empty but were given the worst table . We ordered our entree and were given old stale bread. We complained and they microwaved it for 15 seconds and brought it back . It was still cold and dry. We ordered the eggplant Parmesan and it was inedible. It was overcooked the eggplant was black,tough and dried out. We didn't eat it and we were never asked if it was ok. During our dinner garbage trucks were picking up out back and a purveyor was walking with a dolly right through the dinner service. No one cared- no one noticed. This was definitely the worst food we had all year. Our server was pleasant enough but never checked on us so she wouldn't have known everything was so disastrous. The prices were really astronomical as well. There are so many good places to eat in Aspen -skip this one!! read more

The food and atmosphere here are great. Service is perfect. My only concern is the prices. I had one of the specials, Dover sole, and it was $120.00. Dinner for 2 with a nice bottle of wine and tip was $700. You reach a point at which no matter how good the food is, it is only worth so much. One of the best meals I have had in a very long time and the service was absolutely incredible! Honestly cannot recommend this place enough. We did family style for the table and had the san daniele prosciutto and mozzarella, vitello tonnato, fritto misto "palm beach style" (obsessed with the lemon aioli), polenta, fegato e funghi (phenomenal), black truffle pizza (also phenomenal), linguine frutti di mare, sant ambroeus ravioli, rigatoni strofinati, fettuccine alla bolognese, branzino all'isolana, brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes. As I'm writing this, I'm trying to pick favorites, but keep bopping around because everything we got was so good! I will say (in addition to my comments on the appetizers) that the ravioli was the best I've ever had, the strofinati sauce was perfection, and the bolognese! Oh my goodness - incredible. I don't live in Aspen unfortunately, but will absolutely return to Sant Ambroeus when I visit again and in the meantime, will dream of this food. read more

The waiter told us the specials that included Gazpacho soup. He returned 10 minutes later explaining the kitchen had run out of Gazpacho. We ordered minestrone soup that had a thick dark green base and was tasteless. We sent that back and had pizza provided by the restaurant. Our main courses included Fettuccine bolognese that was again tasteless. A chicken dish included a dry 8 inch round of pounded chicken breast covered by slices of carrot. Our waiter disappeared after we delayed ordering and we had to ask another waiter to find him so we could order food. He was curt and unfriendly. The we split between two couples but the wine was added to the wrong bill and it took fifteen minutes to correct. The restaurant was not full and appeared well staffed read more

Coffee and cakes were great, the staff is NOT friendly at all but just blow them off and you will be fine.

The food overall was excellent--I especially enjoyed the pasta we ordered. The Paccheri Rosa was my favorite; I've never had anything quite like it. Beyond the food, the service was outstanding: warm, welcoming, and very professional. I also have to highlight how beautiful the interior design and ambiance are. Like most of the guests we were in from out-of-town and had heard a lot about this place. Our first impression was not good - I realize this is Aspen but the Maitre'D and the seating hostess were really pretentious and we were taken to the worst table in the place. Luckily they moved us upon request to what was likely the second worst table. At the time (6:30) there were still a lot of empty tables inside. The seating indoor is tight, most of the tables are in close proximity to others. To me part of a restaurant experience isn't just the food and the service but it's also sitting in a comfortable environment where I don't feel like I'm participating in all of my neighbors' conversations. This place takes itself really seriously and crams the inside full of tables. It was a beautiful Sunday evening in Aspen and when we left around 7:30 the place was not full. Again, I know this is Aspen but the drinks and food are really expensive. If you care at all about how much you are spending, this might not be your place. My pasta special was good but it's tough for me to enjoy a relatively small bowl of pasta that costs $65. The wine list might have a couple of bottles less than $100 but not many. I will say we had a wonderful waitress who was helpful and not trying to impress us with her stuffiness. And the food was good. No complaints there. It's weather dependent but the outside patio looked like a much better dining experience than inside. We were not aware there was a choice as we had not been here before. We dropped in looking for a good hot soup and something to snack on. We ended up splitting gazpacho, the truffle pizza, and a beet/avocado salad. Everything was perfect. The gazpacho was way beyond what I hoped for. I truly did not know what it could be, but it definitely was. The beet salad was great and had some peaches in it, which were probably good Palisade peaches, because they brought their share of flavor. The pizza was a completely new experience for me, and fantastic. I have never had an egg yolk on a pizza, but they offered to spread one on the pizza, and I love new experiences. So yeah. The $$$ was a bit high, but this is a great place in Aspen. So you expect that, and I did not feel cheated at all. Thanks to our server, she was excellent. read more

We were in Aspen at the end of September 2025 to see the fall colors and were hoping for a nice dinner. We couldn't find any reservations and decided to stop by this restaurant anyway. At first, we were told they were fully booked, but one of the main maître d's went out of his way to accommodate the two of us. Everything we ordered was delicious--the Rigatoni Strofinati, Sant Ambroeus Ravioli, and tiramisu were all outstanding. We were very well taken care of and had a wonderful experience. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Sant Ambroeus! Food was excellent and the service top notch! We sat on the lovely patio surrounded by flowers and had a great view of the mountain. Stephan reminded us what a Michelin star restaurant service should look like. His menu knowledge, attention to detail and the friendly and funny approach made our night! Just returned from dinner and wanted to share a review because the restaurant does so many things so well but the things that were off, were really off. The interior is gorgeous, seating comfortable. The number of staff was impressive. We were warmly greeted and seated at a requested table. We ordered wine with Justin the som. The bottle missed the mark but he graciously brought a second for us to try and it was perfect. He did an elegant job of matching our taste and budget. Our server was highly attentive but not in an annoying way, but made us feel like he really wanted us to have a great dinner. If you order the bread, skip the sourdough and go for the seeded baguette; it was much better. It took awhile...maybe 45 min an hour? for our salads to arrive. The winner was the beet and avocado salad. The artichoke salad was a hot mess. there was not an artichoke heart to be found and what was there was drowning in some kind of 'dressing' walled in with parmesan. the CENTOCOLORI salad was a very generous portion and delicious. Once the entrees arrived there was a clear winner: LINGUINE FRUTTI DI MARE*. With a nice spice level, this was a light and lively entree and generous enough for two to share. The ravioli is a good example of a dish that could be spectacular - it was delicate, creamy, nice compliment of spinach...and wildly over salted. Such a shame because it was right on the verge of being great. The restaurant manager was on fire! I watched him direct the staff, moving serving stations out of view of the tables, reminding the server to wipe little spills that appeared in transit. He must log 30k steps a night to orchestrate this staff. An inconsequential misstep happened when clean tableware was brought and the knife placed on the left and the fork on the right. Boy that sounds like an Aspen snob but still, it's not what you expect from a restaurant of this caliber The atmosphere is so great, fun vibe and interesting crowd...we'll go back with hopes that some of the food will elevate to its full potential. cheers! read more

My friend & I were seated at a very small table near entrance. The service was fine, the food was blah. We shared appetizers: curried cauliflower, a salad & an entirely too creamy & soggy pasta, it was so cream forward couldn't decipher the pasta or any flavor to the sauce. One glass of champagne each, $250. As other friends have said about the atmosphere, you could be anywhere-New York, London, etc. no Aspen touchpoint or remnants of the charming and beloved Main Street Bakery. Italian food isn't that hard and this building had good bones. The food, the price, the vibe (none, all out of towners), the tiny table-it's a miss. Live here and don't need to return. read more
