Just when I think the experience can't get any better, they find a way to raise the bar again. Scott has created something truly special with Sustainable Wine Tours. He has curated a one-of-a-kind experience that goes far beyond a typical wine tour. From intimate boutique wineries you would never find on your own to opportunities to meet the winemakers themselves, every stop feels authentic, personal, and thoughtfully chosen. Over the years, I've gained an incredible appreciation for wine because of these tours. The level of wine education, along with the knowledge shared about the Santa Ynez Valley, has been extraordinary. Every tour leaves me with a deeper understanding of the region, the vineyards, and the people behind each bottle. This time, Karina was our host, and she was fantastic. When she realized one of our scheduled wineries was one we had already visited, she immediately worked with Scott to arrange a different boutique winery. We would have been perfectly happy revisiting the original stop, but the fact that they made every effort to create a new experience speaks volumes about their commitment to their guests. The service is unmatched, the hospitality is genuine, and every detail is intentional. Sustainable Wine Tours has created some of our favorite travel memories, and after five tours, I can honestly say this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that somehow gets even better every time. I recently booked for 3 couples, a party of 6 for next weekend Feb 16th for belated V-day celebration. But the other 2 couples couldn't make it so I called today to update the party size to 2 people. Because we were only 2 people, we were told that they couldn't guarantee us a spot since it's not profitable for them to host a tour with only 2 people. He said he'll put me on a list, so if other people book, the tour will continue, if not, tour will be cancelled. I was a little surprised because I had received an e-mail from them that says buy a valentine special for a party of 2 (picture attached). I think it would've been nice to put a note that tours do not run if there is fewer than 4, nice to have but I didn't rate them a 4 instead of 5 star for this since I get it, a business needs to run on a profit. I decided to cancel and explore other options. When I called another tour, they explained that it was their slow season, also mentioned that there's a minimum number of people for them to be profitable, but provided me other options like instead of semi-tour, maybe first book a private tour, which is more expensive, but they'll be happy to lower the price if other people sign up too, or if I'm flexible, there's other days if I wanted the semi-tour. This was where I saw the difference between a 4-star vs 5-star service. And so to my previous statement, if you're able to book cloud climbers, you're going to have a good time. But what sets a 4-star from 5-star was this recent booking experience. 4-star was them politely letting me know they can't service two people. 5-star is letting me know, explaining why, and seeing if there's other options that might work.

Once the booking was made, she sent a lunch menu for us to make our selections. She picked us up promptly from our hotel and drove us to the Santa Ynez valley while giving us a quick history of the region and how it came to be a wine growing area. She picked three wineries for the tour, each of which was enjoyable in a somewhat different way. Lisa pretty much nailed what I had told her about our taste preferences. Lisa brought along lunch (per our choices) and laid out the table while we sampled the wines. She entertained us with stories about the wineries, how they were founded, what types of wines were each winery's strengths, etc. All in all it was a most enjoyable day and we have Lisa to thank for it.
