if you're able to book cloud climbers, you're going to have a good time. I've taken cloud climbers twice previously and had a blast each time. I recently booked for 3 couples, a party of 6 for next weekend Feb 16th for belated V-day celebration. But the other 2 couples couldn't make it so I called today to update the party size to 2 people. Because we were only 2 people, we were told that they couldn't guarantee us a spot since it's not profitable for them to host a tour with only 2 people. He said he'll put me on a list, so if other people book, the tour will continue, if not, tour will be cancelled. I was a little surprised because I had received an e-mail from them that says buy a valentine special for a party of 2 (picture attached). I think it would've been nice to put a note that tours do not run if there is fewer than 4, nice to have but I didn't rate them a 4 instead of 5 star for this since I get it, a business needs to run on a profit. I decided to cancel and explore other options. When I called another tour, they explained that it was their slow season, also mentioned that there's a minimum number of people for them to be profitable, but provided me other options like instead of semi-tour, maybe first book a private tour, which is more expensive, but they'll be happy to lower the price if other people sign up too, or if I'm flexible, there's other days if I wanted the semi-tour. This was where I saw the difference between a 4-star vs 5-star service. And so to my previous statement, if you're able to book cloud climbers, you're going to have a good time. But what sets a 4-star from 5-star was this recent booking experience. 4-star was them politely letting me know they can't service two people. 5-star is letting me know, explaining why, and seeing if there's other options that might work. read more

We did the wine tour. In the jeep. We were on our anniversary trip and who the heck wants to drive when you are celebrating? Isn't it more awesome to ride around in a jeep and not have to worry? Of course it is! So the jeep tour is fun. They give you a vineyard off road tour at Gainey. Which is fun and interesting if a bit bumpy and dusty. Overall the ride is pretty bumpy but we didn't really mind. It's a six passenger, semi-open jeep. We liked our jeep mates so that was good. The driver was fun and friendly too. I want to say his name was Woodrow but I could be remembering that wrong. It was a presidential name. The price is $129 which includes lunch and your tastings and glass, but not a tip should you want to tip. The bummer is that I made specific requests and hoped to have gone to at least ONE of the wineries I asked for. The other 4 riders had not been wine tasting in Santa Ynez Valley before so they didn't care where we went. The Cloud Climbers office told me that we would be able to go to at least one of the ones I wanted. But we didn't. It was still fun but I was a bit disappointed. So minus one star. read more

This is the way to tour wine country! With the wind blowing through your hair, the scenery surrounding you, and the sun to your back! Winery hopping is always fun, but being in the back of a jeep adds a whole new dimension to the experience. Our guide, Arturo, selected the wineries based on our preferences and gave us a lot of insight about the area. He even took us olive oil tasting at Global Gardens which really helped soak up the alcohol (they give you big hunks of bread). The lunch was nice too--I highly recommend the number 12 sandwich! The open air jeep with benches was a refreshing way to experience all the beauty Santa Barbara has to offer. It gets a little windy, so I would suggest a hair tie or baseball cap. This was a fantastic wine tour on an open air jeep. We were paired with one other nice couple, on a Monday morning tour. We went to three wineries including the last one, Imagine Winery (which was like an art gallery/wine tasting room). The open air jeep was a rugged, windy, cold at times and a bit hot at times, BUT WE LOVED IT. We felt much closer to nature and it was really fun. The driver guide was exceptional. Very fun day. Michelle picked us up from the Santa Barbara train station and from the moment we met her, we knew it was going to be a fun day. The weather was Santa Barbara perfect, sunny and 75. Our ride up to Santa Ynez was beautiful and invigorating and the first winery of the day was Gainey. Perfect spot to start and end the day (see picture). Our lunch was delicious as we ate outside at the Rideau winery and enjoyed the excellent wine and spectacular scenery. Then it was on to the Fess Parker winery where we relaxed and enjoyed the last tasting of the day. We never felt rushed. Michelle was attentive and informative on the local history as well as her knowledge of winemaking and the local wine scene. A family run business offering beautiful wine tours in open jeeps. Beware, your hair will be a mess after driving 60 miles per hour on the freeway. The guides are courteous and knowledgeable. This is where the stars start to drop.... The package for our bachelorette party of 10 was suppose to consist of 4 wineries and a lunch. We somehow lost the 4th winery and arrived at a bar, paying for our own drinks. Our group felt swindled. We expected and paid for 4 wineries and felt at least they should have paid for a round of drinks. Their excuse was that we would have to pay more for 4 wineries due to our group size. This doesn't make sense. Shouldn't the cost be per person and not be penalized for the amount of people? Payment was a hassle. At the end of our tour, it was a tipsy effort to write our phone number and credit card information down. There has to be a better system than collecting 10 credit cards at the end of a wine tour of 6 hours. My card was stolen 2 weeks later A call was made to my sister 3 days after the theft, stating the declined card. My sister's phone number was written mistakenly instead of mine on the payment form. I attempted to call them 2 days later and left a message to contact me. The next day, they once again called my sister to demand payment, yelling at her that I did not call them back. Desperately trying to get a word in , my sister explained that I indeed called. After many rude accusations that we trying to bail on the payment, the owner found out from the secretary that I did leave a message. I immediately called them back and paid them with the new card, and asked to speak with the manager. As soon as he got on, he did not allow me to speak to explain the situation. Unexpectedly his wife came on the phone. I tried to explain once again the unfortunate circumstances and she continued in the footsteps of her husband, blindly accusing us of not calling them back immediately to pay. As I had apologized for my declined card, I asked for an apology for their rudeness and terrible treatment of their customers. With some profanity from her, she apologized followed by more defensive yelling, stating they just wanted a payment. Why not give us the benefit of the doubt and give more than 2 days to call them back and pay them? They treated my sister and I like criminals trying to cheat them. I tried to look at their point of view, but I would never accuse, yell, and curse at a customer for not fixing a payment within 2 days of notification.... My friends and I had a blast on our wine country tour with Cloud Climbers this weekend! Three of us were celebrating our upcoming big 3-0 birthdays and decided to meet up in Santa Barbara and spend a day in the Santa Ynez wine country. The Cloud Climber Jeep Tour was great! Our guide, Jeremy, was super-nice and taught us a lot about the area, wine-tasting, you name it. It was great to just sit back and relax as we went from winery to winery. Our fellow tourists were another group of 3 girls, who had suggested specific wineries they wanted to visit so we went along with what they had picked. We started at Bridlewood, which ended up being our favorite. Cloud Climber provides the tasting glass and we just walked right on up to the tasting bar -- no tasting fees to pay or anything explanations needed -- it was so simple and carefree! Between each winery Jeremy collected our classes to rinse them out and give them back at the next winery. This may not sound like a big deal, but it was actually really great to not have to think about a thing, just enjoy the tastings and the beautiful scenery! For lunch, we got to choose from a long list of panini and salads. We reviewed the menu and made our selections at the first tasting room so Jeremy could put in our orders. On our way to the third winery we picked up the lunches and we ate all together at a picnic table on the grounds of the third winery. One of my concerns was that a guided tour would seem rushed, but it didn't feel that way at all. After the tastings, we went "off-roading" to get back over the mountains to Santa Barbara and that was a blast too. We had the best time and I can't wait to go back on another tour next time I visit SB! We came here for my sisters bachelorette party. First off we were promised 4 winery visits but we ended up only going to 3. For the 4th tour, they took us to an old bar up in the forest and we had to pay for our own drinks! This was not what was advertised and we were a bit confused. Then we were asked to pay, but they don't take credit cards. So all 10 of us had to each write all our personal information and credit card number on a sheet of paper. He has access to everyone's cc and not through a 3rd party secured site. They said they couldn't use any other form to process the charges since they lacked Internet connection. Maybe they should charge online booking or request everyone to bring cash! It was very inconvenient. Next, I get a call 2 weeks later that my sisters charge did not go through but they decided to call me since that was the only number they had. I told the owner I would talk to my sister. My sister calls and leaves a voicemail with her cell phone yet they called me again the next day. They demanded me to pay for her rather than call her back! He then threatened to charge my card because he had all of my information! The owner wouldn't even let me speak as he continued to yell at me. It was a complete fiasco for something that should have been easy payment in the first place. They accuse me for tryung to dodge their payment! What kind of business is this? The tour was excellent, minus only having 3 wineries for the price of 4. 4 stars One star for customer service. I did NOT appreciate being yelled at as a client. What a great company! This past weekend my friends and I had a girls' weekend in Santa Barbara for our upcoming birthdays. One friend had this company recommended to her and it sounded like a great deal. We were right! For $104, we toured 4 wineries of our choice in an open jeep that seated 6 max, had a gourmet deli sandwich lunch, received a souvenir wine glass that we used at each winery and went on an amazing drive back to town through the mountains where we offroaded on a dirt trail. We were even picked up right at our hotel's front door! Jeremy, our guide, was great. He was very helpful teaching us about wine but he was a fun guy too. He pointed out lots of landmarks from the movie "Sideways" which we all enjoyed. We loved him! I too had the pleasure of meeting Jeremy on the Cloud Climbers Tour. This is the perfect way to spend a weekend get-away in Santa Barbara. I think we did the Buttonwood, Wine World, Kalyra, and Indiana-Jones-Set-Maker Winery place tour. Then at the end, we also took the back roads across the mountains back to the ocean. Everything about the experience was wonderful. The lady friend and I didn't know anything about wine. But everyone was so welcoming that we never felt intimidated. We loved the cabernet and merlot from Buttonwood, but the real treat was Wine World. Wine World is a small wine store tucked away in the town where they buy the sandwiches for lunch from (i think i had prosciutto, goat cheese and pesto in mine). There we had the sweetest chardonnay, several nice muscatos, and a stand out Gewurztraminer. Apparently, the Gewurztraminer was specifically designed to be paired with Thai food. Whether a marketing gimmick or not, we bought it, found some take out Thai food, and loved every second of it. Off roading after going through your first wine tasting trip (where some of us didn't pour out any of our wines) may not be the most comfortable thing in the world. But it sure was exciting, with great views of the ocean and some good old California charm. It really takes you away from the city life we've all become numb to. Plus, the SMALL groups is a huge bonus. It's much more intimate and your chances of being stuck on a tour with a lightweight like me is drastically minimized. All in all, this was the best way to see the Santa Ynez wineries. It was fairly priced, we came home with tons of different wines, and we had fun. Oh also, we got a flat on the freeway right after we finished going over the hills on our way back. Jeremy pulls over and we're next to an orange grove right where the mountains meet the ocean. The clouds were whizzing past us and it was super sunny but nice and cool at the same time. We even saw a pair of California king snakes sliding around in the rocks. (They move a lot faster than I would have ever imagined). Anyways within 20 minutes of Jeremy radioing in HQ, a new jeep was there and we were on our way. Not a single rider had a sour look on their face. You'd figure in most situations like this, you'd get someone who'd start throwing a fit or something. But we were all having SO much fun, that we just soaked up the nice 20 mins of buzzed sunbathing and we were on our merry way. read more

This tour was a blast! I was a bit nervous about the weather and that this was going to be my first wine tasting tour. Luckily our guide (Joseph) made everything and everyone feel very comfortable. The tour itself is about 5 hours going through 4 different wineries. You get between 4-6 tastings per winery but don't be fooled, this is more than enough to get you happy. You get to keep the glass which has the emblem of Cloud Climbers and the guide takes care of the glass. I think after a few tastings you won't be able to keep the glass intact if you are carrying it. If you do get cold the jeep could be covered but it's more windy than cold. For that you must being a light jacket or you can use the clean blankets they provide. Joseph not only was very knowledgable about the wine, but his 35 years of Santa Barbara living helps when answering about the history of the city/winery. We didn't do as much off roading as I thought we would. It I thought it was better this way. I will definitely will be coming back!! read more

At first I have to admit I had no idea what we were getting into but the second I met BARRY strolling around the Front Doors of the Bacara I knew it was going to be an awesome day. We got a private tour for $550 for 3 people. Even thought I had originally told them we were 4, but when I called to say we were 3 no discounts were offered. I loved Tammy so much that I called them again, a week later, and tried to book another trip and she raised the price to $600, since now we were 4 people. I told her out of principal I could not sign up for the tour. It is not about the extra $50 it is about integrity. We gave our driver a $100 tip and a bottle of wine. So it is not about money. My husband, sister and brother in law went took a tour with Cloud Climbers on one of the busiest weekends in the winter months- Valentine's weekend! They had a $99 per person special which is a great deal (if you consider it includes tastings at 4 vineyards, a great lunch from Panino, pickup at our house, and the most important- avoidance of a DUI). Our driver was awesome we had a great time... Some tips: -Ask to go to Carhartt! Definitely the best wine and we were served by the owners! -Definitely bring a jacket, and a hat or beanie, it gets very windy and chilly in those open air jeeps! -Don't expect a cushy comfortable ride- it was really fun to be in the jeeps but they are, well, OLD JEEPS! Bumpy ride, kind of crammed in, and all of our faces were sore and chapped from the wind. But I'd definitely do it again! read more

Had such a great time on this tour, it was the highlight of my vacation in Santa Barbara. Our tour guide extraordinaire was John and he was fantastic. He picked us up promptly at our hotel and was a great guide the whole day. I loved getting to see the back country of Santa Barbara, and the Jeep was so fun. You feel a lot more in the action and closer to nature. We visited 4 locations that John had arranged. He seemed to know everyone and we were warmly welcomed by all. Me and my boyfriend are wine novices but we felt safe in John's hands. He took us to some really great spots and gave us some tips on what we'd like. A sandwich is included in the tour, and it was SO GREAT. An extensive menu to choose from, it was hard to pick which one I wanted. We also got to keep our wine glasses at the end which serve as a nice momento to this awesome tour. Here's why Cloud Climbers are awesome: 1) Pickup from your hotel 2) Great driver/host (John was ours) 3) Quality service, recommendations and pretty darn good vineyards that we visited! I went w/ the gf on a tour, we were the first to be picked up, and then 4 others shortly. Luckily for us, the group was super friendly and everyone very pleasant. Note, if you are thinking of going with friends, I think a Jeep can fit up to 10 people, so plan accordingly and you can totally ride with your buds. They also sometimes have specials online, so check their official web site to see if you can get a group discount. We went to 3 vineyards: Sunstone, Saarloos and another one I can't seem to remember. All in all, each vineyard had its pros and cons with different vinos to taste and really appreciate. Lunch is included in the tour and overall it was about a 7-8 hour day and well worth it. I would highly recommend Cloud Climbers. Here's a few tips: 1) Bring an extra jacket and pair of sunglasses. The jeep is open so it may get a little windy on the 101 and the other freeway. 2) Bring a camera, you'll have fun, take some pictures. 3) If you are coming from out of town, you should look for a hotel near State Street (the area closer to downtown and the beach). That way you can crash there after the tour, shower, then head to State Street for a fantastic dinner without paying a huge cab fair. read more

The place we stayed at during the weekend ended up being 10 minutes from the first and last wineries we visited, so time spent in the jeep was minimal. However, my group and I loved the open-backed jeep with wind whipping your hair back and forth. We felt as Jurassic Park as we'd ever get. We were told that this past Labor Day Weekend was unusually warmer and more humid than the Santa Ynez area ever gets. Our guide, Joseph, was incredibly sensitive in making sure we didn't overheat and that we were very well hydrated. He was very knowledgable about the area and was a pleasure to hang out with for those four hours. He's a bassist and apparently does non-profit work on the side. He kept us safe, was very meticulous about keeping our wine glasses clean and let us explore nearby areas when we stopped for tastings. He took us to four very diverse wineries that were all equally delicious. It was a home run for my first wine tour. However - by the fourth winery you're pretty buzzed and by that point, everything and everyone is lovely. I highly recommend this tour and company to anyone who loves wine. read more

Greg (who quickly became G-Love) was an awesome host and planned an awesome day for us! There were just 4 of us and I agree that if there were anymore, it could have been a little squished! We visited 4 locations, each a little bit off the beaten path! Each place was unique, fun and different! And yes, the open air aspect of Cloud Climbers can be a smidge challenging on the hair for the ladies, but after the first tasting - who cares!! Loved the lunch spot G-Love picked for us (Panino) and we had such a delightful lunch with our new found besties in Liz and Richard from LA! I highly, highly recommend Cloud Climbers and next time I'm back in the SB wine world, they will be my first call! P.S. Best day ever!!! A group of 6 of us took the train to Santa Barbara so we didn't have a car, but still wanted to do some wine tasting. Solution: Cloud Climbers Jeep Tours. We were picked up and dropped off at our hotel. It could not have been easier. Our tour guide, Logan, was amazing!!! Nice, funny, lots of inside knowledge of the area and super accommodating (even walked me to a local market rather than just give me directions!). Right off the bat, Logan asked us about our wine preferences and any specific winery requests. We had none and completely left our tour in Logan's capable hands. We were not disappointed!!! The first tasting room we visited, Saarloo and Sons, was amazing!! We were lucky to meet Keith, the winemaker (or farmer, as he prefers to be called) and he made our tasting unforgettable. It doesn't hurt that they also offer mini cupcakes to accompany the wines. Not sure what tastes better - the cupcakes or the wine. All in all we had tastings at 3 different places that day (it would have been 4 but we asked to go back to Saarloo and Sons for more cupcakes) and all were lovely in different ways. While we were enjoying our 2nd tasting at a beautiful winery, Logan took our lunch orders and went and picked up lunch. We drove to a remote spot and had the absolute most beautiful and peaceful lunch next to a vineyard. There were 6 of us and we fit comfortably in the back of the jeep. The jeep is covered but not enclosed so as others have said, bring a jacket. It's windy when you're driving. Logan took the scenic way back into Santa Barbara and we were treated to sweeping views of the Santa Ynez Valley. I don't know how the day could have been any better. read more

This was a great activity for a girls getaway! It was windy and chilly on the way into the Santa Ynez Valley, but totally worth it once we got to the vineyards. Our tour guide was a little crunchy granola for our taste, but he certainly made our trip entertaining and was very accommodating. We figured out later that the guides get a commission off of the wine you buy at the wineries, so our guide added an additional vineyard visit to the original 4 places we were supposed to go.
