We had a fantastic experience with Santa Fe Western Adventures. Russ is great and did an awesome job of teaching us first time riders. We did the sunset horseback ride. He will tell you, this is not a carnival kiddy ride, you actually have to control the horse you are riding. It sounded intimidating for a second, but he did a great job of teaching us what to do and guiding us along the way. It was a beautiful ride. We even stopped for a moment to hike up to take some pictures. This is a total "must do" when in Santa Fe. One of the highlights of our trip! read more

Went for the Sunset Ride and it exceeded all of our expectations! The ride itself was about two hours, with a good 20 mins of instruction before for the beginners. Russ also gives instructions and helpful hints while riding when you come to down slopes, up hills and rough terrain. He is patient, funny and a great guide. The scenery on the ride was spectacular. I took my son and his girlfriend here for a birthday sunset ride. I thought it was a good ride until I found out afterwards that my son's girlfriend (who rode behind Russ the owner) was subjected to inappropriate, dumb blond "jokes" throughout the ride. Russ also asked her if my son was her boyfriend or husband. Why would you ask that? It ruined the ride for them as well as the rest of our evening, I wish I known while we were still there. I'm sorry I tipped him and that we spent money on this ride. read more

My two friends and I had the absolute best time on Monday 9/9 - a sunset ride through Russ' beautiful ranch. Russ has a terrific sense of humor, fun, light hearted and patient. It had been a while since I had ridden but he explained everything thoroughly, assigned each of the right horse for a riding level and guided us through some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. So I randomly found this and a google search and I'm glad I did! Me and my girlfriend did the sunset horseback ride and it was enchanting. We stayed out for about two hours and got a break to hike up a short hill to see the sunset and surrounding landscapes. What a beauty they are! We got to trot the horses which was a lot of fun considering most places just walk you. Beautiful views in the land of Enchantment. Russ was really easy to work with and a joy. Plus the price for a sunset ride was way less then everywhere else I looked. I highly recommend them!! read more

This was a great experience all around. Russ is a true gentleman and made everything simple. Just do what he tells you and you will do fine. Directions, rules and instructions are clear and concise. Russ took us on a great ride, the horses were all different personalities but enjoyable. Most impressive was the way Russ dealt with the younger ones. He's patient and kind to them. This was such a fun trail ride. Russ was very easy-going and fun to work with. He got us booked quickly, the day before our ride. Took the time to give us directions to his ranch. The horses were calm and well-mannered. We had minimal experience, and he paired us with the perfect horse. We did the sunset ride (1.5 hours) and it was beautiful! We stopped at the end for pictures of a sunset over the lovely mountain range. I would absolutely recommend this to everyone! It's a must-do while in Santa Fe! read more

This place is great. My husband & I purchased the 1 hour ride! We loved it. I received a female horse and my husband a male. And my husband's horse (Cowboy) was hilarious because he kept stopping to eat. And being my husbands first time riding, It was just hilarious to see. But the ranch is huge! I would rate this as the best trail ride I've ever been on. Most of the time these rides are pretty dull but this one was a lot of fun. We were a party of 6 (one mom (me) and 5 "kids" aged 14 -25 (2 of mine and 3 friends)). I rode a lot as a kid but most of our group were fairly inexperienced. Russ and his helper Chelsea paired us with horses to suit our experience. Mine was more "go than whoa" and my 14 year old's horse must be the same one mentioned in other reviews as "the snacker". It was nice to be on a horse that seemed to actually be awake. I also liked that the handlers spent time explaining exactly what we needed to do, especially on hills. I am sure that saves a lot of wear and tear on the horses. We went on a 1 1/2 hour sunset ride. Due to area thunderstorms, it was touch and go until the very last minute but Russ and I talked every 30 minutes late in the afternoon. The ranch is very pretty. We got to trot/canter several times. I would highly recommend this place. read more

I had a stellar experience today. Russ, the owner, is SUPER friendly and was also very accommodating when my friend and I showed up 15 minutes late (!) because of traffic. The ranch is gorgeous, the horses seem happy and well-cared-for, and the guides are knowledgeable and very friendly. Our 1-hour trail ride went up and over some exciting butte terrain, and of course had those constant, sweeping mountain views that the west is famous for. I am a very experienced rider and am a little tough to please in the tail-to-nose trail riding scenario, but I *really* enjoyed myself here. Will definitely come back on my next trip to Santa Fe! read more

We had a great morning with Russ and Carla. They were wonderfully accommodating and patient with us all. We had a range of skill with horses and they made it easy for all of us. The whole terrible experience started when the man who answered the phone hung up on me before I finished talking, I had already made a reservation, so it was too late to call someone else. When I showed up for my ride, the same man from the phone told me I came too early, and that I should leave and come back in a few minutes, so I went back to my car and waited. I came back five minutes later and everything seemed to be okay, but the man, Russ is what I think his name was, didn't stop talking. I wanted to know what kind of horses he uses, but he wouldn't stop to let me ask. When we got on the ride I found out the the horses are not very well trained, they kept eating, no matter how hard I pulled them up. And to add to that the horse stumbled multiple times. I understand that the horses aren't perfect, but if they are going to be so careless as to use a horse that is half asleep, than they should be ashamed. The trails are boring, and the owner is annoying. Do yourself a favor, and go somewhere else. I ride all the time in Santa Fe, and I think that the best option is the Broken Saddle Riding Company. read more
