Cons: In my opinion, the owner-operator, Gabriela Soo, is controlling, mentally abusive and difficult to work with. For instance, Mother asked to be taken to the bathroom and Gabriela refused as "she had gone to the bathroom an hour ago." Luckily I was there to intervene. I many times wondered what happened and what personal considerations were denied while I was not there. My mother suffered three pressure sores within six months under Gabriela's care. Gabriela did not inform me about two of these pressure sores. I only learned about the existence of those two pressure sores when my Mother's nurse visited. Gabriela also refused to let me view my Mother's daily log. While my Mother was a resident, the residents' doors were usually closed and mingling was not encouraged. There were very few activities offered. When out of town family visited and Gabriela asked them to leave at 4:30 pm which was against our contract, my Mother's and family wishes. Pros: The house is beautiful, clean and immaculate. Most caregivers are great, particularly Monica and Robert. My advice - seek other alternatives.

To say that my mom was an amazingly special human does not come close to describing the gift she was to her family and everyone who knew her. When she arrived at Family Home Care on Bodega Court in Grover Beach, she was a shell of her once brilliant self. I found myself wanting to explain to the care giver, Rose, what a precious person was in her care. I worried so much about her being mistreated because of the horrific stories of elder abuse I had heard about on the news. It didn't take long for her boyfriend,my family and I to realize that My mom was receiving excellent, personal, loving care. Rose is a precious woman who deeply cares for the people she cares for. I almost feel like she has to big of a heart and that it must be broken each time a patient passes. This house is kept perfectly clean and never had that "nursing home" smell. They responded quickly and efficiently to our needs and requests. Rose is very strong in her faith and would tell me each time I visited how she was praying for my mom. She would cry with me and hug me when she knew my mom's time was nearing the end. My mom passed away on June 2, 2019 at 11:50 pm, peacefully, with Rose whispering is her ear that Jesus loves her. Rose reported back to my sister that mom smiled before she passed. People keep asking me how I am , how I am coping with my mom's passing. They expect me to be sad and upset but in reality I just feel blessed, relieved and at peace. I know in my heart that my mom lived a long wonderful life. I know we did right by my mom in our care for her during her last two years of life. I know that our last big choice for her was the best move we could have made for her. Sure, I wish one of her family or her sweet partner was with her the moment she passed but since we were not there, I can't think of any other soul I would rather have with her when she left for heaven then sweet sweet Rose.

I was fortunate to only have a short stay at 90 days. They have long term patients which seem to love it here too. The food has a little to desire. But I have been told they are working on it. You can tell when the food is prepared here it is very good. The good thing is your family can bring your food in as long as your diet permits. With today's door dash and grub hub. The food is an easy fix. I would recommend this place even though I do not have much experience with long term care.
