Friday, 12-20-2024: This is one of the nicest Ace Hardware stores I've ever visited. I was mostly interested in their 50% off Christmas sale. It's pretty expansive and laid out well. It's very clean and bright. I bought a Christmas tree scrolled look sign, some ornaments, and fairy lights. Check out was quick but the cashier wasn't very friendly so one star off. read more

Santa Ynez Valley Hardware is not just an ordinary hardware store. It also has a nursery of beautiful flowers, plants, and so much more. I have been to Solvang several times and I have never stepped foot into this store until most recently. I loved my stroll through their garden of beauty. I spent a good 30 minutes admiring the amazing colors and decor. I took lots of photos. It reminds me of Armstrong Nursery back home. I didn't have any encounter with the staff, but I did see a couple of them who were organizing some planters. This is definitely a must stop when visiting Solvang. We were driving through and darted into here last minute right before they were closing: I love exploring garden centers as you never know what rare plants you might come across. I mainly visited the outdoor plants area but it seemed like the entire store had a lot to offer. I did end up finding a couple of neat cacti that I took home with me. The cashier was super sweet. Not your average hardware store. It was pretty! Much fancier than my local Ace. The staff were friendly and definitely found stuff to buy.

We always stop by Valley Hardware when we visit Solvang, because they have a great selection of tons of things. We usually go home with plants, and this time we bought a new kitchen timer. They have a great selection of BBQ tools, parts, and even sauces! Lots of exotic plants, patio furniture, and even baking supplies and gift items. We have also bought birdfeeder parts & food in the past. I really wish this Hardware store was by us in San Diego, but it's OK because we know we can visit it whenever we are in the area. read more

Fun hardware store. unique items. reasonable prices for unique products. yeah it's a hardware store but they have a good variety of products for just about anything you may want or need. Plants are our favorite things that you won't find anywhere else. be sure to ask about your garden plant zone before you buy a plant because every geographical location has different soil requirements and you don't want to buy a plant only for it to die off due to soil conditions. cool home decor and house wares. and if you have a ace hardware store card you can get discount on certain items. read more

This is one of the best stores in town, every local is here weekly for practically anything. From household cleaning supplies, garden supplies, hardware items, etc to decorative items, frames, candles, picnic supplies, and large scale things like patio swings, benches, and fire pits. Seasonally, they have great things - especially the Christmas items. Locals go early to buy the Christmas Village collections. They have table upon table of Christmas goodies and a nice train table display with an animated town. Taking the kids for a stroll is a fun activity to get into the spirit! The staff are wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable. They give balloons to kids, know what they're doing and are happy. A great place to walk around, inside and out, and a useful place for whatever you need. What would we do without Valley Hardware?... read more

I have been shopping here since I was a little kid. When I'm back home helping with family projects, I always run in here and love how it's always the same people, same nice service and our small town community. I learned how to do so many home improvement projects from the guys here 25 + years ago. Now they have way more than hardware and paint. Such an unfriendly group of people. I spent plenty of money on miscellaneous items and got nothing but an attitude from your cashiers and sales reps. The cashier practically threw my bag at me almost dropping it to the ground. I don't frequent the area much but now I will definitely not stop by this place again. Found our new hardware store, having just moved to the area, though to be honest, it's really unfair to call VH&GC a hardware store, they have such an enormous stock of everything from really reasonable patio umbrellas to fine cookware and the usual nuts and bolts. It's become our touchstone when we go into town. Easy access and the nicest people, except Judith (just kidding, she's awesome). There are very few things they don't have, the best selection I've seen and we moved here from Marin and, their prices are lower than I had expected, mostly in line with Home Depot if not less spendy and again, the people know what they're talking about and are well informed on the products they offer. Speaking of Xmas items - I've always appreciated that The Hardware Store (as most locals know it...'cause to most of us it's the ONLY one!) will give you a little money back if you return your Xmas tree to them. I still don't really understand this - it's like they're paying you to use their free service because it's not like they can do much with a cut tree. But that's exactly why I like it. Tons of housewares and a big glorious holiday display around Christmas. A nursery section that's like wandering in a tiny botanical garden. Even some camping supplies... I love it here. read more

We are locals in Solvang and shop at Valley Hardware regularly. In fact a week ago we bought a patio set (approx $500.00) and Valley Hardware assembled it for us. Great service. Yesterday, my wife went there to get a few items, including some plumbers putty. She also had one of the employees there who tried to replace a blade in our utility knife by the paint area. Again thanks for your help. Once finished, she picked up her other items and what she thought was the plumbers putty and returned home. However, it turned out that instead of the plumbers putty she had somehow gotten a pint of sample paint. So I went back to return the paint today to get the putty, but the person at the register didn't seem to understand what had happened (maybe I didn't explain it because I don't know how it happened) and she said the manager would have to come to the counter. Meanwhile, another employee, (don't remember his name) came up and said that my wife had to have had asked for this paint. I told him she wanted plumbers putty and I didn't think it came in different colors. He argued with me (over a $6.00 can of paint that I just wanted to exchange for a $3.00 plumbers putty.) When the manager came up, my wife explained that she may have picked up this paint somehow by mistake instead of the putty. The manager said no problem, just make the exchange. This is one of our favorite stores in Solvang, but I didn't like this other employee's accusations that we were obviously lying about what happened. He later said that he saw a plumbers putty laying on the paint counter. Too late. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? This gentlemen should remember who helps pay his salary and that there are other places that we can buy things. read more
