I genuinely don't know where the nerve to call this place a resort comes from so i won't be including that descriptor.. I've stayed in red roof ins. Hotel motels, but Santas Lodge is easily the worst room I've seen for what you're paying. I will be going far far away from this place and recommend any person to do the same. these people do not care about the property, let alone your business or comfort. Is it close to Holiday world? Yes, that's probably the nicest thing I can say about it. But so are the Cottages and those at least have clean rooms. Lesson, Do not trust any review without photos. This place is cute and festive and my 7year old enjoyed it and that's all that mattered but the walls are paper thin, you can hear everything. The toilet didn't flush. The breakfast was not very appetizing, and people smoke cigarettes in their rooms even though it's smoke free and it stinks up the halls. Definitely needs updates. And 323 dollars! There were two small double beds that smelled horrific! The pillows should be in the trash! The pull out is a joke. It is barely enough for a child. I grabbed blankets and throw pillows out of the car to make it through the night. Honestly, We would have been better off at a camp ground sleeping on the ground. And I am NOT a camper! It was truly that bad. It's a shame that this place was not kept up. In its day.. 25 yrs ago, I booked this place a year ahead. It thrived and if I wanted reservations I needed to plan way ahead. Very cool and magical feeling hotel that me and my then family of 4 stayed at during our 2012 weekend getaway To Santa clause Indiana and holiday world. The decor of this place was amazing. If you love Christmas or have young kids they will love the design of this place. They pumped cinnamon smells inside the hall ways as well. So you Probably ask why the 3 star? Well the rooms weren't very comfortable and closer to being considered dirty then clean. I'd put it as ten equivalent of if you took a super 8 motel or a Howard Johnson and pumped it full of Christmas excitement and nostalgia. The grounds were nice as there was a playground and a frostys fun center that offers pizza, ice cream and putt putt. They had a Restaurant located inside Called st nicks and at the time you could do a breakfast with Santa. So that was also really neat. While it wasn't the most comfortable place to lie down, it was fun, the kids loved it and it is super close to holiday world. That said I'd come back. We were planning a return trip to holiday world in summer of 2020. But a worldwide pandemic derailed that. So hopefully we can make it out soon. I'll child prices and if reasonable I'll come back here so my youngest two daughters can experience what my oldest two daughters got to experience as toddlers. read more

I REALLY wanted to leave a 5 star review for this place because not only is it a really cool idea, and a really neat set up, but we were greeted very warmly and genuinely on arriving. Again, we arrived in the off-season, so that may have something to do with it... Place has a lot of issues that could be improved upon. First off I'm going to list some positive things about it. The overall look of the place is really cool. Very homey and rustic, just what you would expect from a place called Santas Lodge. The Christmas theme here is consistent without being Kitch. During the holiday season it is undoubtedly when this place really shines. Additionally, we were here in April for the eclipse, and unlike every other hotel in the area, these guys did not price gouge on the rates. The staff iwas overall friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also better than expected. The website had it listed as "continental" which usually means a bunch of stale danishes and toast. His breakfast however was considerably better, with a waffle maker, and a hot bar featuring biscuits and gravy , eggs and sausages. The downsides here were that although the rooms were clean, the beds or not the most comfortable. Additionally, on our final day here as we were preparing to leave, the elevator was broken, forcing us to log all our stuff by hand downstairs to load the car. Additionally lack of planning meant that they ran out of orange and apple juice. Not a big deal for me but it was for my kid. Also, the toaster and waffle maker could not be run at the same time or they were short out the breaker on the cheap power strip they were both plugged into. Seriously guys, spend more than five bucks on one and you'll be OK. All in all, would I stay here again? Yes I would. In spite of the few issues that we encountered, it is good value for money and if you are into Christmas themed stuff it's definitely a destination for the holidays. read more

While here spending the weekend at Holiday World, we are staying here in the Santa's Lodge. The main lobby looked neat with all the Christmas decorations. The older lady that checked us in was very nice. The rooms are a bit dated, could use a refrigerator since nowadays about all hotels have them. The rooms are nothing special but they get the job done. The pool and hot tub seem nice we didn't use them. We are probably gonna skip the free breakfast tomorrow morning because I've seen some reviews on here of people saying to go elsewhere. This Lodge was a good choice for just a night stay, not that bad of a place. read more

Santa's Lodge has never let us down after a tiring day at Holiday World. Located across the street from Holiday World, Santa's Lodge is the perfect spot to crash after a long day of running around barefoot through a waterpark. Book your room in advance and you'll be good to go. There's usually a decent crowd of families and the lobby is super fun - always decked out for Christmas, complete with a sleigh that you can climb in. We've always gotten a one bedroom suite-type room that has two queen beds and one fold-out sofa, allowing you to fit six in just one room. The rooms have simple decor, but everything you need. They're decent-sized and have always been clean. This isn't the world's most spectacular room, but it has loyally done the job for my family for years. I'd recommend getting your food at Holiday World or the nearby Subway (wouldn't recommend eating at the lodge). There's also plentiful (free) parking in a hotel private parking lot. read more

This building has the potential to be a lovely experience with the bones from when it likely was in the 90s. They seem to have adequate staff but garbage cans and public restrooms were never cleaned in weekend we were there. I think in time it was at low occupancy during Covid they could have cleaned their beautiful brass lightings that are tarnished, scraped the brown paint off windows that likely have been on there for 10+ years and in general updated and painted areas in hotel. Even Santa's are in need of paint. That saying it was closest to Holiday World bed wasn't awful just unattractive- but only 2 pillows per bed. Furniture in rooms-80s? Chipping. Staff was excellent though and room was clean. My advice is if you have a theme hotel and you never updated furniture walls or draperies you are destroying your product. read more

Despite the lower ratings for this place, we took a gamble and went for it anyway and we're SO glad that we did!! The decor is adorable and a huge plus if you've got Christmas lovin' babies like we do. They loved seeing all of the decorations! Location, location, location. As I lay awake at 2:50am because I couldn't sleep on the rock hard bed, I just kept thinking, "at least it's close to Holiday World." That's about all it has going for it. Crazy expensive for what you get (the next morning I quickly searched for accommodations at Disney World & found MUCH better accommodations for a LOT less) I tried really hard to be thankful that I could contribute to the local economy. THIN walls (I could hear a quite conversation in the next room- actually, I could have participated in it) HARD beds, 1 small, thin pillow per person, small bathrooms, shoddily painted, curtains to short to really keep out the light, no screen in the window... yep, that's what I got for $166. I've been to Holiday World several times, stayed here twice. The whole family agreed that if this is the only option, we'd rather camp in a tent. PS- oh yeah, the free wi-fi... pointless. read more

The best thing about Santa's Lodge is that it is located in close proximity to Holiday World. Also, the staff could give a 4 star hotel a run for their money, they are beyond great. The lobby is decorated in a beautiful Christmas theme and is very appealing, my kids loved it. Now for the reason for the low rating. The room was small and did not seem clean. We actually went to the Dollar Store up the street and bought Lysol to spray the beds down. Since the room had a musty stuffy smell we also bought air freshener to make the room smell better. The bathroom was extremely small, toilet was dirty and did not have a lid. The bathroom had pipes running across the ceiling. When taking a shower the water would go from hot to cold constantly. I do not think the room has been updated since it opened. The comforters were really outdated as well as the carpets. The wi-fi was very unreliable, and the television had only a few channels. For the price paid we expected to have a much better room. read more

We have never stayed here at least not yet. But we do stop in to eat at the st nicks restaurant in the basement of the hotel. The staff at both places have been very friendly and warm to us. Entire lodge needs an update. Dirty all over the lodge. Bath tub is child size, would help if they installed a curved shower rod. Wet in the back part of the lodge, mildew and moldy smelling. Everything is outdated and worn. The door entry boxes do not work properly and the cards deactivate way to easy. The breakfast was not good. read more

I Stayed here for a long weekend with my family, and while it was livable, it could use some MAJOR updates. It has the bones to be such a cute and well themed place, but is very run down (like the rest of the town imo) and just scrapes by as being able to pass for clean. It seems like decorations were put up 10+ years ago and haven't been touched since. Which partly adds to the charm, partly just makes it sad and dated looking. Because of short staff they aren't currently running any of the outdoor activities which I think really would have added to our experience and i'm sad we didn't get to enjoy them. Overall... PROS: super close to holiday world. staff we interacted with was friendly. Wasn't able to hear the people in the room next to us. CONS: the free breakfast they offered was bad enough that we ended up going to a local grocery store and buying our own food. the fire alarm went off two nights in a row? not sure what that was about but there wasn't a fire. keys didn't always work for the doors and could take multiple try's before they worked. Beds weren't the most comfortable and the room was very basic and dated. Outdoor activities were all out of service. Because holiday world/the rest of the town closes so early the pool area was incredibly busy every night and never looked appealing. Overall i'm not sure I need to visit the town again, but if i knew someone that was going i would probably tell them to check out other lodging options before staying herx however if everything else is booked, i would let them know that they will probably survive at Santa's lodge. I would love to see them take some time to deep clean and add some new decorations! read more

Stayed here 1 night for our visit to Holiday World. It's a very simple hotel, so don't expect any amenities. They didn't even have a bar of soap in the shower? No shower mat towel so the floor was SLICK when you get out of the shower-I'm surprised they haven't been sued for slips, trips, and falls yet? The walls are extremely thin and you can hear anyone's conversation whether it's next door or out in the hallway. Anyway, their saving grace was their cleanliness and that is my biggest factor when judging any hotel I stay at. I would definitely stay here again, but I would come more prepared. Loved our stay at the lodge! The decor is cute, rustic, and has a Christmas theme. The staff went above and beyond to take care of us during our stay. They were also very knowledgeable when it came to area shops, restaurants, and attractions. The room was clean and comfortable. The lodge had an awesome indoor pool and hot tub area as well. The room in itself was not bad. Wasn't cleaned the best as there was lots of loose candy under the bed. With that being said, in a town called Santa Claus and a Hotel called Santa's Lodge, I would have expected the whole lodge to be decorated and have Christmas lights. I would have also expected the rooms to be Christmas themed especially visiting in December,This was not the case. The main lobby was decorated with a lot of older decorations that look like they haven't been updated in years. With that being said, the town itself was a big let down! I've read the reviews posted. I'm gonna have to say, some of these other reviewers are just trolls. The staff have been EXTREMELY courteous, the food is delicious in the downstairs restaurant, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfortable, the indoor pool and hot tub are perfect for relaxing after a long day at holiday world. The thing is, some people have way too much time on their hands, and want to complain. Don't let their bad attitudes dictate your choice, or you'll be missing a truly special experience at this wonderfully themed hotel. I will be making this my preferred place to stay while in town, and I will definitely be here for the Christmas festival come December. I highly recommend this hotel. It's only 20 dollars more per night than the motel 6 in Dale, and the stay was VERY much more comfortable. It reminds me of visiting my grandmothers house when I was a child. It's that homey. I'll be honest. After reading the reviews here and on Trip Advisor, I was scared. But, I got a good deal through a Groupon so I decided to chance it. I thought the rooms were fine - they have replaced all of the beds with pillow tops (many of the reviews I read hated the beds), and the pillows were new as well. The AC worked great, they have new flat screen TVs (I was expecting one of the huge old cube TVs), there was a microwave and a fridge. The furniture was supposed to look rustic, since it is a lodge. The rooms were clean, no problems there. I'd say it's your typical 3 star hotel - clean and nothing fancy, BUT the location and staff makes it go up a star in my book. The beds are INCREDIBLY wiggly - my skinny 9 yo rolling over was enough to shake the bad. The walls are very thin - you could hear whole conversations from the room next door. Tips: Bring earplugs and a sound machine. Ask for a roll away for kids (if they have them) because any move a bedmate makes will wake you up. Bring painters tape to tape the drapes closed - we were on the east side of the hotel and the first morning there was a sunbeam straight into the aforementioned 9yo's face at 6:30am, waking us all up. Location is close to Holiday World which is awesome after a long hot day. The staff has always been friendly and we love the Christmas decor and the big Santa's outside. The bedsheets and towels are always clean. Coin laundry available. The dinner buffet is closed right now due to covid, but smaller continental breakfast took it's place. Eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, cereal, oranges, simple donuts juice, coffee The negatives-the overall decor could use an update. New carpeting and some fresh paint and wallpaper would make a world of a difference. The rooms have kind of a musty smell which I can only imagine is from all the wet towels and bathing suits from Holiday World and the pool for all these years. The beds are not the most comfortable and comforters could be replaced. The indoor pool area could use a fresh coat of paint. The suites do have an odd placement of a tub. It's right in the middle of the TV room. Bizarre! But when my oldest was maybe 7, she made a bed in there and thought it was awesome! All this being said, my kids love this hotel and the memories we have made here and at Holiday World. They could care less about the things adults nit pick over. Other things to consider...the town of Santa Claus is very small. There is a Dollar General, a grocery store, a toy store, few RV parks, Christmas store, post office, Subway, a gas station, pizza place and ice cream place and just a few other things. You would have to travel the next town over for more restaurants, stores or medical care. read more

I stayed here with my family and some of my in-laws, it felt as if I had been transported to a time and place my grandparent's would've stayed. I loved it, I think a lot of people rag on the place because it looks "run down" but honestly this ads to the charm. This place is like a strange vortex and I love it. It's right beside of Holiday World which I also can't recommend enough, especially if you have children. My only complaints are the slow WiFi and the restaurant and bar were only open for breakfast. The most disgusting sh*t hole I have ever stayed in. There are hourly hotels with cleaner rooms and higher standards. The air conditioner is full of caked on dirt and dust. The sheets are stained. Finally to add insult to injury there was a cockroach in the sink. Will be posting pictures. Update: Complained to front desk. They were rude and acted as if it was no big deal. So one can only assume they are desensitized to the negative comments due to the shear volume of complaints they must receive. I'd recommend staying in a sewer next time you visit Holiday World as it will be cleaner, and the rats will provide better service than this place. read more

The town of Santa Claus Indiana really doesn't have too much to offer other than the amusement park, a couple of restaurants, a gas station and a couple of hotels to stay in for your visit to the park. We stayed in Santas Lodge, and from the outside it really presented itself nicely, kind of rustic and log cabinish..the inside was decorated up for Christmas after all it is Santas Lodge, but I was actually expecting the rooms to be decorated up as well, other than a Christmas pillow it looked like any other ordinary room, nice but still ordinary. we got a family suite, it had a jacuzzi tub in the room however we didn't use it. the bed was comfortable, and I had no trouble falling asleep which is strange for me in a hotel. there is a nice restaurant in the lower level of the hotel which we utilized for our breakfast, it was a nicely priced buffet with hot foods and a large selection to choose from. the eggs were awesome and the bacon was as crisp as it could be. The price of the room was a little high for what it was, but the hotel and the comfort was very nice. I would stay here again, however I would look for a lower rate, and just nab a smaller room. read more

This time the mattress was comfortable. The staff is still terrific and the carpet still needs a good vacuuming. One thing that bothered me is that the pool never had pool towels. I had to go to the front deck and ask for pool towels and had to wait until they brought them to the pool. I don't know what is so hard about keeping them stocked especially during the fall when the tourist season is over. They also put us in the very back as far away from the front as possible. The AC unit kept shutting off. The hot tub looked like someone had taken a bath in it. It was so gross, the water line had dirt and mud caked on it. It seriously looked like it had never been scrubbed before. Kids were running up and down the hall knocking on doors at midnight. Front desk wouldn't answer the phone when I called down to complain. While my wife was taking a shower, the water turned off. It would come back on for a few seconds, then back off. I had to fill the little ice bucket with water from the sink so she could rinse off. I read the reviews before booking so I should have been warned. However, going to Holiday World, this was one of my only options as we didn't want to camp. DO NOT EAT THE DINNER BUFFET! It was cafeteria food at best, heated up by teenagers who didn't care much about what was going on. I have photos of them standing around comparing checks, dropping food in front of guests, not waiting on our table and talking loudly. It was horrible. Two, Don't expect anyone to be at the front desk when you go to need them ever. I waited, rang the bell and waited each time I needed something. The only good thing about this was the night clerk that didn't hesitate to move us once the adjoining room (who we didn't know) tried to keep opening our door and was being very loud. The two boys that ziplined with my husband and child were very nice and no complaints there. Like many other reviews, this hotel is out dated and could be a little cleaner. I saw doors with exposed wires etc. The indoor pool/spa was HORRIBLE. BUGS EVERYWHERE. I don't know if the filter wasn't working and we are pretty sure they do not use chlorine on either pool. I would be swimming and feel hair wrap around my leg from other patrons. It was just gross. The last two nights we were there, the cleaning staff forgot shampoo, coffee etc.. but they sure remembered to put the envelope out looking for tips. I will not stay there again. read more

First off, you can't beat the convenience factor to Holiday World theme park. For the hotel itself? I would like the positive aspects as room rates (which are reasonable), onsite restaurant and bar (they do an acceptable job at food service for breakfast and dinner). The bar is a nice place to relax and be social. I've stayed at Santa's Lodge every year since 1995. Honestly, the rooms are OK. Not great, not heinous. They tend to not have much in the way of consistency -- some rooms are clearly nicer than others? My last stay here was in June 2013, and I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. The quality and quantity of the room towels seemed to have gone right down the tubes. Also, the room I had a bit of a musty smell to it. Honestly, with some minor upgrades (new carpeting, new bed linens, and better towels), this would be a very nice hotel to stay in. And for the "family on a budget," the quality is certainly something that would meet their needs. Myself, I travel for business and am accustomed to staying in Hilton Hotel properties on a regular basis. Santa's Lodge is NOT THAT!! So, take my comments appropriately (and with a grain of salt). On the plus side, the staff here are SUPER great. They're pleasant, helpful and accommodating. They deserve kudos, no doubt. read more

On the plus side, it is a dry, cleanish place to sleep after a long day at holiday world. That's about it for the plus. Everything is outdated from the carpets to the beds to the walls themselves. Our suite boasted 3 beds (which it does have technically) the 2 full size beds are the smallest, hardest beds I've ever had to sleep on. The extra bed which was a pullout sofa comes with 2 flat pillows and a single blanket that is in dire need of replacing... The jacuzzi is in the living area, which we decided not to use, as it is literally a foot from the pullout bed. The on site restaurant seems like a great idea...don't have to leave the hotel, so convenient, and even a buffet. We enter thinking we will all be able to find something to eat, it is a buffet right? Well the buffet contains less than 10 items, most of which are cold and not exactly tasty... After trying once for dinner and once for breakfast (neither of which is included in the $200 a night cost) we have opted to eat elsewhere for the remainder of our stay. Staff is friendly, but kind of hard to find. If we need something, we have to trek the half mile through the winding hallways to find the front desk. At 8 months pregnant, this is not convenient for me. So, basically if you just want to sleep and don't mind shelling out some dough, this is the place for you. If you plan to spend time in the hotel, you may want to search elsewhere. read more

Reserved a room with a few coaster buddies for the night before Holiday World's first day open to the public for 2011. Booked the place because the rate here was fairly similar to that of other good motels in the region. $79.99 is not a bad rate for 2 queens... But be warned, that this rate will most likely be higher into the summer. Having seen other reviews, I was expecting to take the place with a grain of salt, a place that was conveniently located right near Holiday World, and Christmas/Santa theme, an on-site restaurant and not many more frills than that. One nice surprise was that the corridors and rooms got some remodeling, especially a new color scheme of something other than white walls everywhere. I also appreciated the free wifi, great considering the cell data reception in the area was poor. The indoor pool and jacuzzi was nice, and the pool water was actually warm! However, the space where the indoor pool/hot tub is was kind of utilitarian, with a lot of "dead space." The room itself was OK. One thing I took issue with was the bathroom scheme - not so much that the sink is located outside of the toilet and shower/tub, but that the toilet seat is of the commercial type, lacking a lid. I say that's a pain because of a lid would have provided space to lay stuff down on, like towel or clothes, while in the shower. Also, the TV channel selection was lacking. Many of the channels were fuzzed out, and as an adult flipping through the channels on a Saturday morning (no kids in our group) thought it was crazy that Fox News was the only thing worth watching on it! Couldn't find NBC nor CNN. The on site St. Nick's Restaurant had a breakfast buffet for $8.95. Thought that the food was good, decent for the money. But the dining room seemed to be a cramped space, especially with the group of loud-talking girls that were eating at the same time, which made a conversation amongst young adults a bit difficult. Overall, I found Santa's Lodge to be a reasonable place to stay while going to Holiday World. You can probably find someplace nicer, or someplace that is a better value in the region, but this place isn't a bad choice. If you're going for Holiday World and/or are bringing the kids, it'll do. But it you're looking for a romantic getaway, wanting something away from hustle and bustle, try elsewhere, especially during the summer. read more

this place was noisy and had no amenities in the room yet was clean. the walls in the rooms were paper-thin and you could hear conversations in the next room. the food was gross and unseasoned. the service from the workers was good, they were polite. the water within the shower should be hotter. needs better coffee and creamer. other than that y'all did an adequate job as keeping your hotel a temporary squat for people travelling. do not go here unless you want to pay $180 a night for a nasty out-dated hotel. if you would like for children to run throughout the halls until 3 am, this is for you. read more

We stayed one night in April 2014. A dear friend got married in a church down the road, the reception was held in the Celebration Room at Santa's Lodge; making it very convenient for us! We were greeted by super friendly staff and our check-in process was speedy. We stayed in room 201 which was right up the stairs and around the corner from the vending and ice machines. We were a little worried about the noise but never heard any commotion caused by other guests. The rooms were clean, tidy and bug free. For a lodge located in an area with the population being only 2500 people, this was the perfect stay and exactly what we expected.
