Santiago recently did a repair and "refresh" to a river rock dry creek bed located in our front yard. The dry creek is located along a fairly steep grade and is not only for appearance but also for drainage from some rain gutters. I could not have been more happy with Santiago's work. The job quote was reasonable and the workers showed up on time. I appreciated a suggestion made by one worker which improved the appearance and function of a portion of the creek bed. Santiago Landscape was one of the few landscape companies in Reno that actually responded to my RFI. While communication was sometimes a little slow, it took a while to get the contract, they did eventually always get back to me. We worked with Elsa who was extremely knowledgeable, and once we got on their schedule was constantly checking in and came to the project often. They re-did our backyard for us which was in major need of TLC. They removed a failing deck, graded our yard, installed a paver patio, put in new grass and over all changed the look completely. The team who worked on our project was always on time, stayed late, and worked incredibly hard to make our yard so beautiful. It took about 2 weeks for them to finish the project. The crew also made suggestions mid-project that we took into consideration and ended up agreeing to because they made so much sense, like adding bend-a-board material between the grass area and the rocks so that the rocks didn't keep sliding into the grass area and it kept it neat and tidy. They were recommended to me by Corys Lawn Service (as I wasn't in their service area). After corresponding with them through their Yelp page, gave them my address, they stated their quotes were free, etc.....asked them to schedule me a date so they could see what I needed done and give me a quote. And nothing. Apparently my business and time are not important enough to them. Sad, customer service is everything people. Too many options out there not to have a good work ethic and good customer service to boot. read more

Did an amazing job despite some pretty challenging conditions. And they did it for a reasonable price (well, reasonable for major landscaping, anyway, it's all expensive as hell). We're on a hillside with a steep slope to the side yard, and narrow sides (between the house/air conditioners and the fence) which really worried me. Like inches to spare on either side of a standard sized Bobcat. But they negotiated the slope perfectly. Did not run anything into the house nor the fence nor the air conditioners. They also started work right at the beginning of the 10 days of nearly nonstop rain we had in May this year and it (of course) slowed them down a bit but no longer than necessary. When they could be here (i.e. for stone work) they were, and when they couldn't (i.e. when it'd require running a Bobcat through the mud in our yard), they weren't. We were just landscaping our backyard (front was done by the builder) and we had pretty firm ideas on what we wanted done with it but Santiago had several really good ideas that we hadn't thought of. During that process we discovered we had several "upgrades" we wanted done (compared to the original plan) and they did them rapidly and for a reasonable price. They also went above and beyond in terms of making sure that our yard was graded properly and had enough drainage. Also did a great job at fixing up the part of our front yard that they had to drive the Bobcat over (i.e. replacing plants they had to remove, making the decomposed granite part look even better than before, etc). They also did a great job with adding to our drip system. I think they actually fixed part of it that hadn't been working quite right but never said anything nor charged me for it. All in all, two thumbs up, and if I had more thumbs it'd be more thumbs up. read more

I had read several reviews about Santiago Landscape prior to reaching out to them to ask for an estimate. I was excited to meet with them to get some information. They even recommended to me that I find a few other landscaping companies so that I could compare the estimates for best pricing, and information. We scheduled an appointment for our estimate at 8 on a Saturday. They have very limited availability for appointments, so be prepared to work your day around their schedule. The really frustrating part was that no one came at 8. I didn't receive a phone call or email. I called the office around 8:30, and I emailed their info email address (the one we had been interacting on.). Finally, someone comes at 9 am. He was completely unapologetic. He didn't even seem to think that coming an hour late without any notice was a bad thing. In fact, he blamed the experience on us, saying he didn't have our phone number - which, after showing him the long string of emails, every one with my phone number on it, he didn't seem phased. I know that it's the busy season for landscaping. And what this experience really showed me is that they aren't interested in working for your business. When we told him we didn't think we would pursue his company, he didn't seem fussed, but rather, just happy to be let off the hook. If you are on a time crunch, or have reasonable customer service expectations, I'd tread warily. read more

We had Santiago pour a concrete slab and sidewalk for us. They quoted us lower than the competitors so we chose them with very little knowledge. We had read the previous review about the poor communication and leaving the yard a mess. I do agree the lean to the side of low communication. You tell them what you want done - they'll do it. They aren't going to walk you through it. Well, maybe if you ask they would. These guys are super nice fellows. I felt like they left the place in great shape. Overall - Excellent work. They did it fast. They were friendly and respectful. They went out of their way for us several times. I will call them up again next time I need any services they do. Edit: I gave them 5 stars and the concrete scholar in the house says give them 4. I guess there were some parts of the concrete he thought they could have done better. read more

After installing a new lawn and sprinkler system parts of the lawn started dying for lack of water. I called them 5 times over 5 months and they said they would come back but they never did. Then they said they only guarantee for 1 month, but it takes more than a month to notice dead spots. I told them before they left that I thought we needed more sprinklers but they said no, this would be fine. I would absolutely not hire then for sprinkler work. After paying $1500 I now have to hire someone to redo my new sprinkler system so all areas get water. read more

We had them install an irrigation system. Pros: 1. The system works. 2. They showed up for the appointment for the estimate and for the first day of work. 3. They honored the estimate they gave us even though they did more than they planned on doing. 4. They did not play the Rush Limbaugh show or loud music. 5. Everyone was pleasant. Cons: 1. The job took 7 days with no one showing up or calling 2 of those days. On 2 other days, no one showed up until after noon. One of the days they showed up without warning on a Sunday afternoon. In other words, communication is a problem. 2. They did not leave our yard the way they found it--they dug holes looking for pipes and didn't backfill them, moved our things and didn't put them back, sprayed concrete all over our yard ornaments without rinsing it off, etc. read more

When we moved into our new home at the end of 2017, everyone advised us to start getting landscaping estimates as soon as possible, as landscape contractors are backed up in Reno. We received a high recommendation for Santiago and two others, and of the three plans & estimates submitted to us, we went with Santiago because of the great plan and value. Angel met with us a number of times to plan and refine, making suggestions and incorporating our changes, such as extra trees and shrubs, a front yard update, a raised garden box and an extra faucet. Angel was very receptive to our wishes. We were impressed by the guys who did the hard work of constructing a low wall, muscling boulders into place, and planting all the trees and shrubs. When everything was finished, they repaired the fence section that had to be removed for bobcat access and left everything neat. They also instructed us on the drip irrigation system. We plan to have their maintenance guys work with us each fall and spring for winterizing and activating the irrigation system, pruning, and refreshing the ground covers. If we could give them 4.75 stars, we would. The one point where we experienced a little frustration was in their responsiveness to emails and text messages. We know they are very busy, and Angel is deeply involved in the execution of each project, which we appreciate. But improving the responsiveness would have gotten them the full five stars. read more
