He told me a story about how his wife went through withdrawls when another location was under renovations (because someone smashed their car into it). I love Santiago's but this location is not quite ready for comfortable service compared to the other locations I've visited. The exterior and interior of the building were in bad shape. Bathroom was kind of nasty and the doorknob was falling off, lots of graffiti inside. We ate out of plastic clamshell containers, they really didn't have a legit place to sit inside but they said they are opening the dining area soon. Food was decent but the food quality takes a drop off for me when it's put into a to-go container. I'm not a "to-go" kind of customer, like to eat my food fresh. Maybe it will improve. read more

Old fashioned burritos. Simple, delicious, cheap. The service was friendly and the salsas were tasty. The burritos were not the giant ones everyone expects now, but the smaller ones that allow you to get multiples and are priced for that! I got two burritos and I was full and happy with my choices! I was so excited to finally try the $2 breakfast burrito. I came on a Saturday and I believe the meat of the day was bacon even though it said chef's choice. Eggs were cooked well and the green chile was tasty. I could barely taste or see the bacon. All the breakfast burritos are already premade, so you get your food quickly. Burritos are small so you'll need at least 2 to get full. Service was extremely friendly. Overall, it's a decent breakfast burrito but I don't think it's the best in Denver. read more

This place was recommended to a coworker by a lady who said she was a chef so we decided to check it out. ...Not a fan, the lunch menu looked good but I'm very disappointed. Bland beef soft tacos, salsa taste like dominos pizza sauce. Beans look like they were cooked in lard and left to sit. Food is cheap, service is nice but I won't be coming back. I have been going to Santiago's for a few years now. I usually stop by once a week. I am now going to stop going for breakfast burrito's. I am tried of paying for a burrito that just has egg and potato. They advertise days of the week for Monday its ham, Tuesday is Chorizo etc. Well you don't get the meat. Santiago's makes a fabulous breakfast burrito. The half and half green chili blends their fiery hot with their too mild mild to make the perfect sauce for potatoes, eggs and cheese. I also like that the burritos are on the smaller size and you can eat one without feeling sick afterwards. My preference is to order the non meat filled breakfast burritos so I'm not eating mystery meat but it is much faster to order the regular burrito in my experience. read more

I'm running out of Mexican fast food places to eat at. First off, there's only one Taco Bell within a 5 mile radius with an open dining area. Now, this the 2nd Santiagos this morning that has PERMANENTLY CLOSED THEIR DINING AREA! I haven't eaten at the Viva Burrito near my house in over 2 years because, no dining area. I don't eat in my car, so Santiagos, Viva Burrito and Taco Bell are no longer options. I drove less than a mile north of Santiagos Santa Fe location to Tacos Los Campos. Tacos Los Campos is open 24/7! That have a large, warm dining room that apparently is always open. The food is awesome with huge portions (no need to order 2 burritos here). Forget Santiagos, try Tacos Los Campos. read more

Santiago's (don't know which location) made probably a thousand breakfast burritos for the 2018 Denver Startup Week for a Wednesday evening event sponsored by Dice. I'm a pescetarian, and got a couple of burritos during the night which were supposed to have been vegetarian, at different times from different servers. Except every single one of the three had chicken in it in addition to the potatoes and eggs that were supposed to be inside without the chicken. You'd think they'd be individually labelled for what's inside (I was told it's the box they're from that's labelled), but they're only individually labelled for spiciness, not for dietary restrictions. I don't know whether it was a labeling or the ordering/preparing issue, or both, but, regardless, not making any proper vegetarian burritos for an event with a thousand of people is a major fail in my book -- if only 5% of folks were vegetarian, that's 50 people who had to taste disgusting-to-them things in their mouths, as the chicken was very well hidden inside between the egg and potatoes. Besides, how difficult is it to make an item without one of the 3 ingredients?! Vegetarians still eat eggs and cheese (the burritos didn't have any cheese, though), so, it's a very easy diet to cater to. read more

I just had my first experience having a steak burrito here for breakfast. Note, not the breakfast burrito that so many talk about, maybe next time. First off, it's not authentic Mexican, rather some type of American Tex-Mex? My steak burrito was served with a "little" steak, maybe a thin spread of beans, then rolled and topped with a green chili sauce and cheese. It cost about $9 and wasn't impressive at all. The steak was chewy and a bit bland, no flavor. The green chili sauce was pretty good, but nothing over the top. Worst Santiago's of all........to be fair im a loyal customer of santiagos, i love their food and the family feel. This location is garbage, you never get your whole order, they argue with you about what should come on dishes from their own menu. Like guacamole for fajitas or rice on kids dish. You ask, they say no you'll have to order a side, you show them the menu, they argue behind grill until they finally give you the whatever begrudgingly. I had an appt. near their location today and was excited to go there. I have not been to Santiago's for years. (I live too far away) I was beyond disappointed. I had ordered a Bean and Cheese burrito and it had leaked out Cheese Grease all over every container. I initially thought all the cheese was in one end. Nope, it was essentially a cheese burrito with some beans and little to no chille. You would think that too much cheese would be a good thing. They were out of churro's witch is fine... it happens. I got sopapillas instead and they were very over cooked and tasted burnt, while not being black. The Tacos were good! I do not see going back - there are plenty of restaurants on 84th to go to. Because I used the service that is supposed to be faster, I expect faster. I know 5 minutes isn't a big deal, but if I put in an order to grab and go I expect to grab and go. This is anything but "faithfully authentic" Mexican food. I grew up 20 min from Mexico, and this place doesn't even come close to being Mexican food. They are at best, a step above taco Bell. This is the second time my order has been wrong at the 104th location. I ordered a bean burrito smothered half and half and a beef burrito smothered mild. I got 2 beans burritos one smothered hot and one smothered half and half. I have a sensitive stomach so couldn't eat either one. The crazy thing is I live a block away from Santiago's in Brighton, but I prefer this location to the one closer to my home. I always feel like I am too "white" at the one in Brighton. They aren't as friendly to the non Spanish speakers. I know some presumptions I should keep to myself, but I can't help it if it's true. Besides the fact that they are on my way to work the people who work here are as friendly as they get. They are quick too! Most important part of the visit is the food. Sure the burritos are standard no frills, but the green chili is THE BEST!! It's nice and hot while still having great flavor. If you don't like it hot they also offer mild and half and half. Amazingly delicious breakfast burritos. Parking can be a pain in the morning on your way to work, but it's so worth it. For $2 you get a tasty meal (chef's choice on the meat each day, but I haven't tried one I didn't like), a friendly girl behind the counter, and enough spice to kick your sinuses into high gear. You can go with hot, half and half, or mild (this isn't really spelled out on the menu, unless I've missed it). I've done the half and half routinely now, and I can't seem to break from it. It's spicy, but not too spicy. If anyone here is familiar with the ordering style at Gates in KC, this is similar. The folks who get in line know what they want and it moves fast. The folks behind the counter expect you to know your order when you reach the front of the line; however, they don't yell at you, so that's a plus. I stil like this place, but they messed up my order last week, then today I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was supposed to have bacon in it. No bacon found inside, eggs were brown and overcooked. Without the saving grace of the chile it would have been inedible. Both times it was not busy. Last week ordered a carnita and bean burrito received a bean and cheese. I guess you better eat in. If you like your green chile hot, this place isn't going to disappoint you. Just be sure to order your fire-fighting beverage of choice, 'cause you'll need it. Seems like Santiago's must be focusing all their attention on the food, because the atmosphere in the 8-table dining room leaves a little to be desired. As long as the place isn't too crowded, you can get see some pretty decent city views through the large picture windows, though. As others have noted, this spot is cash only. There is a pseudo-ATM on site: run your card for the desired amount, pay your transaction fee, and get a credit slip which they'll exchange for cash at the counter. Why only 4 stars? Great green chile! It's neck-in-neck with Chubby's green chile, but I think Santiago's has edged them out, mostly because there are more locations and the menu is better. I love the Nacho Plate (it's not the kind of nachos that you're thinking. It consists of soft corn tortillas folded with refried beans and cheese and flour tortillas folded with cheese.) When on the go or in the depths of hangover hunger, this is a top spot, because it's fast and inexpensive. Whether it's tamales smothered in their incredibly spicy green chile or burritos stuffed to the brim with their also spicy chorizo - there's not getting around it: the food is good. Don't expect a fancy interior or cloth napkins, but more linoleum floors and and tables. However what this place may lack in decor, it makes up for in funky character - like only accepting cash and hosting a wide survey of locals with a hankering for some damn good greasy Mexican food. read more

My search for the best green chile has ended at Santiago's. I have eaten at every Mexican restaurant I can find and ordered the same thing. Santiago's Green Chile beats 'em all. They have a breakfast burrito for $2 bucks that is amazing. Thursdays is the best day to go because it's Chorizo Day. The place is small and unassuming with a line of contractors, painters, Denver Water employees, Xcel guys, etc who all work nearby and stop in for a bag full of breakfast burrito goodness. There are some tables and a decent patio if you want more of a sit down experience. They have a full menu of Mexican food they serve throughout the day. If you want the breakfast burrito, get there before 11am. Between 8-9am be prepared for a line of people ordering and waiting for their to go orders. Don't be put off though because the line USUALLY moves quickly. The breakfast burrito comes with eggs/potato/cheese and meat of the day. They make the green chile in hot, mild or half and half. If you're used to spicy, go for the hot. My favorite is the half and half. It has a good kick but won't make you cry. read more

Gets my vote as the worst Mexican food in Denver. Outside the building you are always choked with the smell of over boiled chicken. The green chili is watery and the horchata is dispensed from a machine. Your order can end up completely wrong and the service is slow.
