We've stopped here many times over the years, and while it's familiar, it wouldn't rank among our favorite rest areas. We've visited quite a few across the country that offer more modern facilities or a better overall experience. That said, this location does have a fairly nice shaded picnic area, which would likely be a pleasant spot during warmer and drier months, even though we typically don't take advantage of those features. On this particular visit, the rest area served its purpose well. The restrooms were accessible, the stop felt straightforward and efficient, and we were able to get in and out without much delay. It was adequate for what we needed at the time, allowing us to get back on the road quickly and continue our drive south.

They are well taken care of and almost like a park in most cases. I stopped here when I was tired of driving and needed to close my eyes. I was afraid at first due to the reviews, but this place is way better than stopping at your regular rest stops in the side of the road. Bathrooms are way cleaner than rest stops, if you need snacks or drinks they have it all. There's even souvenir shopping if that's your jam. One of my traveling buddies was so impressed it was her first time to experience a travel center vs. rest stop. I assured her there are more like it and even larger. Overall, great place to stretch your legs due to the huge trees surrounding the area. It helps break the road fatigue and road hypnosis that some may feel while driving for long stretches.

Parking is abundant and the spaces are clearly marked if reserved for a particular usage. An informational pavilion provides travel information for exploring and sightseeing in Oregon and a number of the posted informational placards provide background about the history of Oregon. The restrooms have been cleanly and water fountains have worked, providing clean water without a funky taste. The exit from the interstate is clearly marked as is where to park depending on vehicle type.

During this covid thing, the local authorities have had every rest area, parking lot and turn off closed...... apparently unaware that the virus can only survive in direct sunlight for less than two seconds. As an experienced, well educated Engineer I am not clear on the science supporting the closure of open spaces and especially the banning of people walking on the beaches where there is a lot of direct sunlight and almost always a breeze. But this is not for small minds to ponder. I'm sure our elected officials know a lot more about science than I do.
