Cars parked on the grass area where they're not supposed to; but OTE personnel said they'll let them just to keep everyone happy; as long as they stay out of the freeway. Trash is collected on a regular basis. I guess they really expected the influx of eclipse watchers and they stay on top of it!

Gee Creek, located a bit to the north of Vancouver, WA, is a great stopping point on a trip to Oregon (or points farther south). It's got plenty of parking (yes, even enough for our large travel trailer), extra restrooms so long lines are avoided, and everything is clean and well laid out. They even have shaded picnic tables if you need a longer break, and a pet area. Rest areas aren't exactly the most glamorous place. But when you find a good one, it's worth making a mental note for your next trip. Because once you cross that border into Oregon...the restroom pickings are quite slim.

There are vending machines, trash cans, and bathrooms in the main building. Lots of parking for both cars and semi-trailer trucks, and everything in between! Overall, great place to stretch your legs due to the huge trees surrounding the area. It helps break the road fatigue and road hypnosis that some may feel while driving for long stretches.

Parking is abundant and the spaces are clearly marked if reserved for a particular usage. An informational pavilion provides travel information for exploring and sightseeing in Oregon and a number of the posted informational placards provide background about the history of Oregon. The restrooms have been cleanly and water fountains have worked, providing clean water without a funky taste. The exit from the interstate is clearly marked as is where to park depending on vehicle type.

A quick check on my map confirmed that I was still indeed in Washington. That aside, this is a nice park that is clean and well maintained. Dismal Nitch is nestled along the harbor of Columbia River, across the river from Astoria, OR. When traveling along State Road 401, the park can be access from either direction I can imagine centuries ago, wintering in this nitch of the harbor because of inclement weather. It would most likely be dismal, indeed. Thank you to the Washington State Department of Transportation for providing this scenic and handy rest area.

We pulled of the freeway at the next sign that read Rest Stop. It was a sunny day and it really made this pit stop a sight to behold. The grounds looked awesome. There is an area for walking pets, dual bathrooms on each side. Water fountains for free or for some coins, you can get something from the vending machines. Ther is also a station for brochures and maps to help your journey. There is plenty of parking and plenty of shade. It was a much needed rest and an enjoyable one ta boot.

Though I had to remember to be mindful of the ceiling height up on the loft and the stairs leading up, everything else was positive. I booked the stay on Expedia. On the day of arrival, received a text from host with House # and the passcode for entry. Checkout is the same way, just text bk your House # and name with time. Location was easy to locate, about 10 mins from Tillamook Creamy and 20 mins to Rockaway Beach. I was greeted by some wild deers when I pull into their parking lot. Their tiny homes each came with their own bbq grill on the front porch. In the back, there is a small fire pit for roasting marshmallows, very cute. The interior is clean and the kitchen came with utensils to cook a meal. Beds were comfortable. Plenty of windows for ventilation and their heaters kept us warm through the night.

We assured him that we did not, he then said, "no, I think you did". We offered to send him a photo of our Rover/pet sitting reservation to prove our dog was at home. We apologized to him if we had gotten any residual hair in the cabin off of our clothing. He explained someone had seen a dog in a white truck in the parking lot, which is not the vehicle we drive. He could have politely asked what kind of vehicle we drove to know it wasn't us, but instead he came in hot and was very accusatory.
