When he complained about not being able to sleep, and how much pain he was in, the nursed would ask him the same questions that another nurse had asked him the day before. Then we got a lot of "I'll leave a note for your doctor". It seems that the note never got left because we were told that several times about my Dads pain. He would occasionally go up to 11 hours without it. It was prescribed for every 6. So I asked for a list of his medications and the times that he is given them. I have medical power of attorney, so it seems easy enough. Nope! Not here. First I asked a woman at the front desk area, who refused to give me her name, and she told me I had to find his nurse.... Well, he was nowhere around my Dad's room, so I asked his CNA, Moreno. She told me that I had to ask his nurse. Like Im supposed to wander around the care facitly looking for his nurse. So I hit his call button. 25 minutes later, I timed it, Moren, his CNA came in. "I don't need you, I need his nurse", I said. He finally came in and asked the same questions and said he'd leave the doctor a note. Unbelievable. So I tried to contact 2 people in charge of his care, Debbie and Joyce. No one answered the number I was given by his nurse Jordan, and Debbie hasn't replied to my email. It's been over a week and still no response. I am beyond pissed off about this. I would tell anyone looking for a care facility, full-time or for recovery, to pass on this one. They obviously don't care much about their patients. And, sorry this is so long. If anyone from the facility would have called me back, I would have told them all of this in such less public way. Please! Pick the next one on the list...

I stated several times that I am allergic to cucumbers, and yet they were still in every salad (I ate a lot of salad because so much of the food was inedible.) They were short staffed, so I frequently waited up to 20 minutes for a CNA, not good when the meds give you diarrhea. Most of the staff gave it their best, but not all. One night an older woman (I presume a CNA) came in, bent over my bed and shook me angrily. I was stunned, but later figured out that she thought I was the woman crying, "Help me, someone please help me," on and off all night. Still no excuse for what she did, and she should be fired for patient mistreatment. I would NEVER allow a relative of mine to be here; they don't pay enough attention to what patients need, and at least one of the actually abused me. My…read moreex-husband was hospitalized for 3 months, followed by a nursing facility for 3 months and then Dr. Walrod became his primary care doctor. On the first appointment she stated she only had 15 minutes to see us so I should pick the 2 most important questions to ask. She has provided the worst medical care I have witnessed in my 36 years of life. She is mean, rude, condescending and genuinely does not care about her patients. She is beyond difficult to get ahold of and I feel genuinely horrible for anyone who's insurance basically forces them to see her. I plan to report her to the Oregon Medical Board and every other recourse I can take to make sure she does not cause emotional and physical harm to any patient in the future. It is absolutely deplorable that she has a medical license.

[Note: this review refers to multiple locations of the same practice.]…read more If it were possible to leave multiple levels of review, I surely would. There'd be, for instance, a 1- rating after stunning rudeness from a medical assistant at the Milwaukie location. After I complained about her--which, in decades of chronic illness, I've never felt compelled to do; THAT'S how nasty she was--stating that I could never be comfortable seeing her again, went out of her way to contact me (!) "apologizing" not for her behavior but for my "feelings." (The classic "I'm sorry you FEEL that way" non-apology, employed by malicious incompetents everywhere.) But then there was yesterday, when I saw Nicholas Dean, PA at the Gateway/102nd Avenue location. His thorough, but efficient approach may ***very well have saved my life***; he got me in to the Imaging Center next door, where my DVT was identified. That calls for (at least!) 5 stars. I've seen a number of Rose City's providers over the last 4-5 years, and while it seems there has always been some level of administrative dysfunction (and their computer system seems to be trying the patience of everyone who has to deal with it), on the whole, I've received good care. It's difficult to keep an open mind about a practice when one has already had significant negative experiences in it (and/or has read about others'). Caution is always advised, even when reviews are stellar. No system or provider is perfect, and even within incredibly flawed systems, one will find some excellent providers. I'm setting my review at 4 stars, then, because on balance, the physicians, FNPs, and PAs I've seen have been excellent. It's hard to imagine leaving the practice, not least because I have, by now, a significant medical record with them, which does translate into better outcomes, when one's medical situation is complex. It pains me that a number of the providers I have seen there have not lasted long, for whatever reason. (I'm tempted to ask any new provider I encounter, only somewhat jokingly, "are you a flight risk?") And I hope I will soon have a more stable primary care situation, whether or not that is within this practice. For their own sake, I hope they get their administrative act together. (Although, even within that category, there are good people; Rose City's schedulers have been enormously patient with THIS patient. In part due to cognitive fog, related to fibromyalgia and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, it takes, eh, some work to make sense of me on the phone.) For other patients' sake, I would offer that there are some VERY good people here, and to avoid the practice altogether (assuming other particularities of location, hours, etc. are logistically convenient) given their identified issues, might not be helpful (YMMV). And again, on the Urgent Care side of things (that is, as far as I understand, the only shift covered by the aforementioned PA), I have zero qualms, at least, about returning to the 102nd Avenue location. (Okay, one qualm: they are a bit far away, and it's irritating to have to go that far when the Milwaukie location is much closer, but I now avoid the latter altogether given my experience with that medical assistant.) Despite some significant negative experiences (not all of which I'm describing here), then, ***the fact that I am alive to complain about anything*** is pretty great, so bottom line: THANK YOU, Rose City, and especially to Nicholas Dean, PA.

She knew, that she will get stronger and she will be back on her feet, as soon as she starts her radiation. With that said, I end up talking her into moving to Park Forest, one, because it's close from my home, I can easily walk there & visit her. I told her I will even do volunteer work, so I have an excuse for visiting her there often. She went for it! That's right, she was ready to be among women her own age! On the day she moved in, I was unpacking some of her necessities, when she rang up the nurse. She pressed the button, like 10x, but no nurse came to see her. I also found out, that SHE WILL HAVE to walk to the bathroom, without her walker, and that there is no guard rail on her bed. Meaning, they didn't care if she fell, or tripped, my mom is DYEING of cancer and there is NO WAY IN HELL was she walking alone in the bathroom, without an assistance! To me, that was a torture! I found out, the buzzer had a hole so the reason why the nurse didn't hear her. What if she tried the buzzer and I wasn't there, and she's having an emergency? Right away, I decided, this was NOT a place for her. The lady who was in the same room as mom (roommate) her first warning to us was: "good luck, getting help around here!" I didn't know @ that time, what she meant. But she was giving us a good warning. I feel sorry for relatives, leaving their 'love ones' in a place such as this! I got a confirmation from her doctor, and took mom home with me, that same evening. That was a good move, on my part, because I had the last 3 months with my mother, and took care of her and had a chance to be a 'mother' to her and her the 'daughter'.

I was humbled to see some fabulous patient care for many of the residents at this modest facility, with day in and day out consistency. It resides in a quiet residential area off of the hustle-bustle of 82nd, yet close enough still to be a short walk for lunch/break options (7-11, and the Indian/curry hut right next door). Thanks Park Forest for the mentoring and partnership. Thanks so very much for all that you do for those residents who rely so dearly on you.

To hell with new year resolutions, I'm just challenging myself to find activities that make me happy during the dark and stormy months. I've been doing macro nature photography, antiquing, and finding as many opportunities to play in the water as possible. I recently stumbled upon some photos and reviews from the East Portland Community Center pool and I was amazed to find out folks use lazy rivers in pools as walking tracks! Sure, dear reader, you may spend time in gyms and know this to be a "thing," but it's news to me! Well, I tried it out this week and it's quite possibly my new favorite activity! I get to spend time in the water, make new friends, and burn some calories while I'm at it. The community center is vibrant and bustling with all kinds of folks doing activities they love, which makes me really happy. I'm incredibly impressed with how much of a well-oiled machine Portland Parks and Rec is. They are able to get an astounding number of people in/out of this pool each week with swimming classes for beginners, baby and me classes, lap swim sessions, aqua aerobics, current channel walking, free swim, hot tub usage, and so much more! I love seeing my tax dollars being put to use so effectively. This week I've paid for three individual sessions because I wanted to make sure this new interest isn't a passing fancy, but after a few days as a regular at the pool I'd like to take this relationship to the next level. I'm getting a monthly pass tomorrow! So here's to new activities that make us happy in the new year. That's not a resolution, it's just a good way to live life.
