I got a gel manicure here a few weeks ago. The folks working there were very friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing, however my gel manicure was a bit rough. Maybe I needed to pay extra for the service I was expecting...Nonetheless, my cuticles were not removed and my nails weren't filed. Essentially, I paid $15 dollars to get the gel off my nails (a bit ridiculous if you ask me, just build it into the overall price instead of sneaking that in). Then, I paid $30 for a gel manicure. But, all she did was buffer my nails and apply the gel coats? I was in a rush and it was already taking quite long... they were very nice so I refrained from complaining. I've gotten gel manicures over hundreds of times, and never have I paid $45 for a gel COLOR CHANGE. (Again, no cuticles were removed, my nails weren't filed etc...luckily I file my own nails!). I was only here on vacation so I won't be returning, but if you are getting your nails done I would recommend going somewhere else. However, I hear the massages are nice here! read more

We got the couples Sweetheart Massage, and let me tell you, it was wonderful! I had Reuben, and I have unfortunately forgotten the name of the woman who worked on my husbands back. They start by asking questions: if you want a complimentary scent in the lotion they'll be using, and what kind of pressure. I asked for medium/firm pressure and that's what I got. All of my knots were worked out on my upper back. This is a full body massage: back/shoulders, arms, and legs, thighs down. They also give you a scalp massage along with a facial. The environment itself was relaxing and they offer complimentary drinks. They offer you a robe, and slippers to wear throughout the spa, and provide a locker with a key for you to put your stuff in. The docked star is for communication. This was the first time my husband and I had been to a spa. There were lots of assumptions made that we'd understand what to do. I found myself either asking questions/ wondering what I should do. For example, after the massage they asked if we wanted a drink, and I said water. After that they left the room. I wasn't sure if they'd be coming back in? Were we supposed to get dressed and leave? We got dressed and they were waiting outside with the water. My husbands massage was Dora and she was amazing. Mine on the other hand was Gina and it was like getting speed lotion rubbing massage. About 30 minutes in, I had to stop her and be done. Therefore my husband didn't get to finish his wonderful massage. Both walked out and Not one person apologized or asked if they could make things right. We go to the front desk and they charge us for a 30 minute massage (which was perfectly fine since my husband was happy with his) but still nobody apologized for the terrible experience that I had. What was supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable day of our vacation turned out to be an hour we will never get back. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Disappointed in this Aveda spa. We had a couples massage and my wife said whereas her therapist was "okay", she felt like she was rushing the entire time. My massage was just lacking...in everything. I expressed having a tight left gluteus and she may have spent 30 seconds in that area. She spent several minutes on my upper neck area. Most of the time her hands were just idle! I told my wife I actually thought she may be asleep!!!! After a string of disappointing events during our first trip to South Padre, The Sapphire Spa was a breath of fresh air! We had a 10:00am appointment, and they let us in at 9:45am to begin paper work so it didn't affect our massage time. From the moment we were brought back to the locker rooms, every little detail was clearly and kindly communicated. The facilities were extremely well kept up, clean, and relaxing. My husband and I enjoyed being in the same room during our 80 minute massage. I am 8 months pregnant, and this was my first prenatal massage. My masseuse was very clear and careful with me, and she made me feel very comfortable. We both felt amazing after! I got my hair and makeup done at Sapphire Spa for my wedding, and was delighted to find out that it was downstairs from The Pearl Hotel - our hotel and venue. This made for a very hassle and stress free day. I did trial runs at Dillard's makeup counter & Visible changes in my local mall, so I went in with pictures of what I wanted. The atmosphere gets five out of five stars - the music was really relaxing on the day of and exactly what I needed. The staff was lovely - I had made an appointment for my sister but they didn't write it down (!?). One of the girls, knowing it was my wedding day, quickly and quietly dropped everything she was doing to accommodate her. My sister didn't know what she wanted & gave semi-vague instructions about what she wanted. When I perceived she was unhappy with it, her hairdresser completely took it down, washed her hair and started over happily without any issues. My hair was gorgeous - not exactly what I showed in the picture, but close. However, it wasn't secured as tightly as it should have been, so a few bits and pieces did fall down a bit throughout the night. My makeup was airbrushed - which did last all day long (I got my makeup done at noon and didn't have my wedding until 5). Overall, my appointment was three hours long - I enjoyed all of it, found it to be very relaxing on the day. The price was about what I found in the mall - and the makeup was about half the cost of what was in my hometown. Overall, I was very happy with what I received and its convenience - the one thing I would have improved would have been that none of my hair would have fallen down. It didn't destroy the look and no one noticed it, but it would have been nice not to have to mess with that minor detail. read more

I booked massage with my daughter who needed a good deep tissue massage. Never visited this spa before but have been to spas all over the world and will have to say this is one of the worse ones. The massage therapist never offered scented oils for massage and had very calloused hands. The spa itself had no lotions and terrible paper towels. More like toilet paper, the shower area was confusing... Large space tiny shower heads and strange design for getting in Overall very disappointed, for over $300 I expected more. From intake to the second we left, we were pampered: we were offered a glass of wine and my wife had a mimosa. Private lockers, with showers in the changing room, fully stocked with amenities like soap, shampoo, even shaving cream and blades. We selected the custom massage, and our therapists both worked out kinks that they found and gently ground them away. Tip: arrive early so you can make full use of the beautiful facility.
