Unfortunately, my interaction with the woman doing the eye exams, Charlie, completely changed the experience for me. I accidentally mixed up the Seal Beach and Long Beach locations when booking. Once I realized on my GPS, I immediately called to let them know I'd be about 10-15 minutes late. I apologized multiple times and even offered to reschedule, but the employee on the phone reassured me it was completely fine and told me to still come in. When I arrived, I was sitting in the lobby filling out paperwork when Charlie came out and loudly said multiple times that she would "rather take the patient that was on time," making it obvious she was referring to me. It was embarrassing and honestly unnecessary, especially after I had already called ahead and offered to reschedule. When she later called me back for the exam, I calmly asked if there was an issue with me being late and again offered to reschedule. Instead of acknowledging how it came across, she became defensive and started rambling. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable continuing the appointment, so I decided to leave. What really confirmed everything for me was that after I walked out and came back in to ask for her name, I overheard her loudly saying, "I wasn't being rude." Clearly the situation was already being discussed the second I left. Instead of accountability, the immediate reaction was defensiveness. And honestly, if conversations about patients are already happening loudly in the lobby, it makes me uncomfortable thinking about how patients may be spoken about behind closed doors. What's really unfortunate is that I waited a week for this appointment. Patients should feel comfortable and respected during medical appointments, not embarrassed in front of a waiting room.

First off, my wife asked if they accepted her insurance. "Of course we do!" they said. Except, plot twist, she later finds out they billed her for a full exam. She thought it was her co-pay. Wrong. Guess that's what you get for believing them. Red flag #1. Then came the 40-minute wait past her scheduled appointment. Finally, she gets called back, except it's not even Dr. Tran. Nope, instead she gets some mystery stand-in, like a substitute teacher no one asked for. We booked specifically with Tran, but apparently that doesn't mean much here. Red flag #2. The exam? Don't make me laugh. They claimed her eye looked "infected" (she literally just woke up from a nap and even told them that) and then refused to give her a prescription unless she forked over more cash for an extra procedure. Because nothing screams "quality care" like holding your prescription hostage until you pay the ransom. Red flag #3. So yeah, happy for everyone who had a five-star visit, but for us? Never again. If you enjoy surprise charges, long waits, bait-and-switch doctors, and sales pressure dressed up as medical advice, this is the place for you. Otherwise, do yourself a favor: look elsewhere. Plenty of offices actually care about patients instead of treating them like walking ATMs.

Less than 3 years later, going to a different doctor, my daughter has been diagnosed with Myopia and is a -2.75 vision. I'm frustrated now because I should've gotten a 2nd opinion at the time but just took the word of a professional. The pandemic got in the way the last couple years, so her vision I'm sure got worse. But I'm highly certain that it could've been caught when she originally complained about not being able to see. But "tests" showed she was fine.

I've noticed that what sets her apart from other optometrists is how she cares for every patient and genuinely does her best for each one. I often get in for an eye exam the same day I call and am able to get glasses that are fully covered by my vision insurance. Prices are very reasonable and they have a great selection of both frames and contacts. The opticians Monica and Olivier are also great at what they do! They have so much experience in the field so they can quickly tell what glasses look and fit best on patients. Always love coming here.

Let me just say, she has definitely taken the baton and run with it. She's kind and knowledgeable, as one would hope, but she's also something I didn't know I needed in an optometrist: she's someone who does more than simple eye exams, but spots actual medical issues and refers out as needed. As I was in her room just today for my annual exam, I took notice of her MANY degrees on the wall, and suddenly the mystery was solved. This is a sharp and very educated doctor, who clearly takes her job and patients seriously. She spotted my son's keracotonus five years ago, she spotted my high blood pressure that my doctors were telling me not to worry about (last year, but also asking me about today even before my exam - for a moment I was confused, like, "are you my primary, what is even going on??"), and she has been instrumental in getting me to the right people for some last minute ophthalmologist issues otherwise. Shouts out also to Olivier, who remains a delightful fixture since it was Dr. Decarlo's practice (and always guides to the right frames to best flatter your face), and I also appreciate their low pressure sales - they've cheerfully given me my prescriptions for the past few years to fill elsewhere, without making me feel bad or guilty for not purchasing glasses through them -- though Olivier always offers thoughtful and excellent guidance with respect to the right frames to best flatter/fit, otherwise. All in all, I highly recommend this practice.
