This is the only regular doctors appointment I actually look forward to! Dr. Mitchell is a joy to work with and is excellent at answering any questions or concerns I may have. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment to begin and checking in is a breeze. The opticians Rachel and Peter are efficient and knowledgeable. Both of them make selecting glasses a no-pressure and actually fun process. They go step by step through pricing and I've never felt like I was being sold into anything I didn't need or want. My husband and I give this practice two thumbs up! Only suggestion is that they improve their website interface. read more

Really wanted to love this office but it's just not it. I'm a new patient due to insurance changes but I have been wearing contacts for decades so I understand costs and copays beyond measure. Despite my due diligence and questions, my final charges (visit & contacts) more than tripled so until I'm eligible for a new exam and doctor next year, I'm stuck. I'm a new client at Sea View and my first appointment there was yesterday. The location is easy to find and they have a parking area. The reception and staff there was all nice and personable. My appointment started on time and I can tell they are professional about patient records and timekeeping. I was happy to see everything being disinfected after each visit. Just had my first appointment at Sea View Optometric Center, and it was such a great experience. All of the staff are super friendly, and Dr. Mitchell was very thorough -- both in conducting the examination as well as in explaining my diagnosis and her recommendations. Last but not least, Peter really has a gift when it comes to helping someone select frames that work for them. I was so impressed, not only at how much time and effort he put into the process, but also at how well he was able to help me understand and articulate why I did or didn't like a certain option. Highly recommend! I have been coming to SeaView for 4 years. I am originally from out of state and SeaView was the first doctor I chose in California. The staff has always been kind and informative. Their staff explains the "why" behind everything they do as a part of your annual exam and ensure your comfort. They have explained my insurance breakdowns in depth as well as recommend products. Their glasses selection is incredible especially if you are looking for your glasses to be a statement piece in your day to day attire. I recently went into SeaView to redeem a warranty. There was some miscommunication on dates, but SeaView honored their communication to me and worked to provide a fair solution. On a side note their attention to detail with safety and sanitation is a major plus! They have had precautions in place even prior to the pandemic! I have since moved out of Long Beach and continue to come back as a result of their service. read more

My spouse & I have been using Sea View for 5 years. Efficient & friendly but after wearing glasses for 25 years this is the most expensive place I've ever gone. However, since my glasses are a part of me I've appreciated their selection of frames. Last summer when I went to pick out new sunglasses I was caught up in the deposit scheme they've put together. I felt rushed & pushed to find something or lose my deposit & have to pay again for another appointment. I picked a frame I'm not very happy with but the lenses are great and they're functional. They have taken COVID seriously, as most of the world has. No, the pandemic is not over but things have changed, vaccinations are available (at least in first world countries) and restrictions are being eased. As others have stated, I too have been a long time loyal customer but the requirements to pay deposits for appointments needs to be reviewed. I refuse to pay $100 to shop for frames. If I don't find a frame I love I'll have to pay again in 3 months to shop the new frames they've received? I just can't support this scheme. Nowhere else are you required to pay just for the privilege of shopping. It is both arrogant & ignorant to say no one has become ill with COVID through your business. Most people have no idea where they contracted COVID. I had COVID last year and I was out hiking feeling fine when my work called to inform me to quarantine. I still have no idea where I got it. Additionally, only one other person in my family became positive after me, even though I had unwittingly exposed several others. Bottom line is you don't know if anyone ever contracted COVID at your office, you only know that you took precautions recommended by the CDC. Farewell, I'll be finding a new optomitrist through my ophthalmologist. read more

I find it interesting that the dr had the opportunity to review the transcripts - I didn't realize I was being recorded... I don't recall being told that the calls were being recorded-I maybe wrong about that but honestly didn't know they recorded calls. Would love to see the transcripts - or maybe it was your snarkys office manager side of the story being told to you weeks later when you returned from your vacation....hmmm I also find it interesting that you said that I repeated that Disneyland was opening up...I said it once. But ok... Also- I would have been 100% ok with paying the deposit if it was handled better by your office manager. Last thing- it's funny that you're the only office that didn't get the memo on some of the restrictions being lifted. All the other optometrist offices in Long Beach that I called (and there were several) seemed to have managed to stay covid safe, allow people to shop with adequate time, and didn't have to charge deposits for shopping. Oh and had very nice non-snarky office managers. You seem to want to discredit everyone who has an issue with your office...I thought I gave your office a fair review... your office has seen better days and genuinely lacks some customer service... you, specifically, I always found nice, friendly and easy going...Unfortunately that's not true for everyone in your office. read more

I bought my pair of glasses here less than 2 yrs ago. I have a very sensitive skin so the only option had was titanium frames. After a year or so I made the purchase, the paint on the frame started peeling. So I contacted Sea View for a repair. And they told me that the manufacturer didn't offer any repair kit so they couldn't help me. !!?? Neither any compassion nor an apology was extended to me Well, the fact that manufacturer doesn't offer any repair option would have been a great info to have before I bought this expensive frame. Now I have to buy a whole new pair already but not from here. :/ read more

Found this office on Yelp today. Didn't even read reviews. Literally chose it because it's close to work and it was opened one hour later than most places. SO GLAD I FOUND THIS PLACE! This is easily the most beautiful and organized optometry office I've ever been to! The space feels great to walk into. I'm super busy and am a new customer so I extra appreciate that you can print your paperwork from their website and walk in with it already done! I've been a loyal customer of Sea View for over a decade, but I think it's time to find a new home for my optometry. Ever since Dr. Bichon retired, the price of the service has gone up significantly, and prescription glasses have increased exponentially. I have a fairly advanced prescription, but my first pair with Sea View cost me less than $200 with insurance. My quote for this last time around was over $800 with insurance. I just found out that new appointments now require a $25 deposit, and if you cancel within 24 hours, they'll charge $150 for the inconvenience. All that combined with a fairly lackluster customer service experience from the staff up front makes me believe it's time to look for something new. Dr. Gwidzak is a great doctor; personable and endearing. I recommend him as a technician and service provider all day long, but I just can't bear the costs any longer. read more

Before Sea View, picking out new glasses felt like going to the dentist or trying on bathing suits. And, let's get real, who enjoys that? I used to spend way too long trying on dozens of glasses only to go home in a pair that looked OK from certain angles (alright, they looked terrible from ALL angles) and would inevitably become my "at home" glasses until the whole exhausting process would start over a year or two later. And then I found Sea View. My experience here over the last couple of years has been nothing short of transformative. Every single person that works there is lovely and talented in what they do. Shout out to Maria, Eric, and Brad! They create a space and a process that is comfortable and feels like home. No kidding. I actually feel confident and *gasp* pretty in my glasses, which I wear every day IN PUBLIC. Shocked? Me too. If you think I might be exaggerating, just know that I've now gone back to Sea View about three times in the last few years and brought numerous friends, who now travel an hour in LA traffic just to go here. Had a contact lens exam today to get fitted for multifocal contacts because I was tired of lugging reading glasses around everywhere. Dr. Mitchell took her time to explain my options and listened to my needs before making an informed recommendation which worked out great. Rachel was super patient with me when she was training me how to get my lenses in and out. The office also has a great eyeglass frame selection, so I will be going back to get my backup pair of glasses as well. I am so glad I found this office. My previous optometrist at a nearby location lost their optician and never replaced them with a trained professional, instead using their receptionist to fill in. I have been coming here for about 4 years now and every time I come I am provided the best service and selection of frames. Before I decided on Sea View for my eye care needs, I went to 3 other optometry centers. None of them had the quality and staff that you will find here. I have had two eye exams with Dr. Mitchell and each time she is thorough, she listens to my needs, and she takes great care of me. The front office staff is second to none. They always answer my phone calls, get me in for last minute adjustments, and always greet me with a smile. They help me pick the very best frames and give honest opinions each time. I now live in Irvine but I insist on making the drive up because of how great this group is. All the original staff is back so if you have any hesitation at all, don't. Very professional and customer Oriented service. They have systems to check-in and do some of the insurance and paperwork ahead of time through the phone/text and their website. They take safety against covid very seriously and they limit patients in the building as well as have procedures to keep everyone safe such as mask usage and disinfecting sample glasses as you go. I believe it was Fatima who helped me through all the paperwork and insurance and just made everything too easy! I just started wearing glasses, so I only been with Sea View Op for a year and half. I have visited the office twice in that time frame. Once before Covid-19 and the second time just yesterday. Both times have been very pleasant. I was in and out within 30 mins and the staff and Dr. were friendly. One thing I appreciated was how they allowed me to brake up my frame fee into two payments. They also took the time to sit with me and explain what my insurance covered so I didn't pay out of pocket as much. On my second visit I really liked how I was able to "check In" via text/phone. I had been looking for a regular eye doctor/clinic for many years before being recommended to Sea View Optometric. I couldn't be more pleased with their service, knowledgeable staff, and dedicated care to their patients. And to top it all off, they have a curated selection of fashionable eyewear that you probably couldn't find at most places. Since the pandemic, I feel that Sea View has gone above and beyond to take all necessary precautions in order to keep everyone safe. They make sure everyone is wearing masks, check temperatures, clean after every patient, and limit the number of people inside. I really don't even want to give them 1 star based off my most recent experience. I came in on September 2021, just for a routine annual exam.... Should have been easy right? Not at all. I saw a different Dr, the male Dr, who I've never seen before. I let him know before my exam that I have prism and my eyes are really sensitive and it's caused trouble in the past (not in the last 10 years, but I know my eyes change every year so I always just let new DRs know to please check for this.) he claimed to be a prism expert and understood and checked my eyes. The frames I had were still in good shape so I decided to get my new lenses in my same frame (big mistake.) After waiting about 5 weeks processing time, which to be fair I was warned about, they finally arrive... I felt like I wasn't even wearing glasses, they were SO wrong. My double vision was worse than not wearing glasses, everything was blurry, and lights were shooting everywhere from astigmatism. The office staff gives me attitude and comes off as really rude when I tell them I still can't see and something is terribly wrong, but they schedule me for a redo. I ask to see the girl doctor who I usually see and they say no (I asked because she didn't mess up my prescriptions before.) I see the male doctor again for my redo. He focuses on my prism, not so much on my other numbers (distance and astigmatism.) he gives me the walk-around glasses so I can go in the office and look out the window. I tell him things still seem blurry and I don't think this is correct, but my double vision has at least stopped. He assures me that the rx is correct and that he's a doctor and knows best, and goes on about how my double vision affects everything and I should go to vision therapy (yes, I should, but I need to see now as well...) and he convinces me that maybe my eyes are just tired after so much testing. I leave with a sinking feeling that these are still going to be wrong. After 5 more weeks, my 2nd redo came.... No more double vision! But everything is still blurry and lights are still shooting everywhere. I call the office, again, and tell them that I still can't see and that my rx is wrong... AGAIN. They were so rude to me. Again. They told me the doctor notes in his chart that I was seeing 20/20 and I just had tired eyes so I shouldn't be having this problem and if I do it was my fault for lying... which, see my previous paragraph, I never was confident that his rx was correct and he dismissed my concerns. They asked me what was exactly wrong, because apparently everything being blurry and lights shooting everywhere wasn't good enough, and I tried to describe it but I didn't really know how to describe blurry so they thought something new was wrong with my eyes and that it wasn't their problem because they weren't aware of it... they tell me they will have to make me pay out of pocket since this is new. I argue that nothing new is wrong, I just can't see- in the way that my rx is wrong, not in a new problem kind of way. I can't go anywhere else because they won't even refund me or reverse my insurance. I make a 3rd appointment and INSISTED I see the girl doctor. They finally obliged. Third appointment comes and I see the girl doctor. I think I'm labeled a problem patient at this point and everyone just wants me out of there because she was so cold to me... but she did redo my check up and GUESS WHAT?! No new problem, but she had to double my distance vision number because it was way off from what the male doctor measured... I'm not an eye expert, but I think that's the most simple number there is. I argue with the office that I shouldn't have to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a redo because that isn't my fault that the doctor TWICE couldn't measure a simple distance vision... I can't afford $800 for new lenses and I can't drive or work or do anything without a working rx. They leave me in limbo. A few days later, I get a call from them that "they did me a favour" and found a lab who offered to remake my glasses for free.... How insulting, I wish they would have done me the favour of getting my rx correct in the first place. But I give them my glasses, as I need to see, and it's 6 weeks this time before I get them back!!! They told me they will not accommodate any additional redos and they basically kicked me out as a patient. Good. I will never be back anyways. I picked up my third remake back in January. And while these ones were finally safe enough to drive in, they still weren't completely correct. Honestly I may not have even noticed this if I didn't have the headache/disaster from the previous months. I had to go to a different doctor and have them recheck my eyes and redo this rx to finally get it perfect. My distance vision and astigmatism number both had to be increased just a little bit more. Go here if you want a headache, go somewhere else if you want correct glasses. read more

I had an unfortunate experience with Sea View. I visited their offices a few times and had a consistently below average experience. 1. I've called them multiple times and not once has someone picked up the phone. Their phones go to voicemail every time, and if I hear back, it takes at least 2 days to reply. 2. I have placed orders for contacts and glasses. Each time the orders have arrived about a week later than promised. 3. There is very limited access on who can enter the office. A member of my family had an appointment, and I was declined access to enter with them. It was a bit upsetting that even though I was a patient I was not allowed to enter their offices. Overall, I appreciate the doctors but customer service is clearly not a priority. I understand being understaffed, but the consistent delays in response and completing orders is extremely frustrating especially when I am given false expectations. My family has gone to the office as well, and we've decided to never return after giving sea view multiple opportunities. Fantastic, clean, modern, friendly, and professional. I've had exams from both Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Gwizdak and both are extremely knowledgeable and have warm and inviting personalities. They both educated me on my eye health and made sure I was satisfied with my service. Wonderful people. The receptionists (all of them) are very friendly and courteous.
