I honestly hate leaving negative reviews because the front desk staff here were genuinely very sweet and professional, and the office itself had a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, my interaction with the woman doing the eye exams, Charlie, completely changed the experience for me. I accidentally mixed up the Seal Beach and Long Beach locations when booking. Once I realized on my GPS, I immediately called to let them know I'd be about 10-15 minutes late. I apologized multiple times and even offered to reschedule, but the employee on the phone reassured me it was completely fine and told me to still come in. When I arrived, I was sitting in the lobby filling out paperwork when Charlie came out and loudly said multiple times that she would "rather take the patient that was on time," making it obvious she was referring to me. It was embarrassing and honestly unnecessary, especially after I had already called ahead and offered to reschedule. When she later called me back for the exam, I calmly asked if there was an issue with me being late and again offered to reschedule. Instead of acknowledging how it came across, she became defensive and started rambling. At that point, I no longer felt comfortable continuing the appointment, so I decided to leave. What really confirmed everything for me was that after I walked out and came back in to ask for her name, I overheard her loudly saying, "I wasn't being rude." Clearly the situation was already being discussed the second I left. Instead of accountability, the immediate reaction was defensiveness. And honestly, if conversations about patients are already happening loudly in the lobby, it makes me uncomfortable thinking about how patients may be spoken about behind closed doors. What's really unfortunate is that I waited a week for this appointment. Patients should feel comfortable and respected during medical appointments, not embarrassed in front of a waiting room. read more

I rarely leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my experience with Seal Beach Eyes Optometry. This was my first time visiting since my regular optometrist office in Belmont Shore is currently being remodeled. I went in for my annual eye exam and decided to order two pairs of prescription glasses: Meta Ray-Bans and Prada sunglasses. A few days later, they called to let me know the first pair was ready for pickup. Once I got home, I immediately realized they had given me the DISPLAY pair. The glasses still had adhesive/glue residue on them. When I called to ask about it, they openly admitted they "always give people the display glasses." I'm sorry, but I did not spend over $600 on Prada sunglasses to receive a pair that has been sitting in direct sunlight and tried on by countless people. The manager then offered to order me a "new" pair from the manufacturer. When I returned to pick them up, I was again handed what appeared to be used glasses. They came with no Prada box and what looked like a fake or generic Prada cleaning kit. When I questioned whether I was being given refurbished or used glasses, the manager responded: "It's like when you go to Target and try on clothes and buy those clothes." At that point, I was completely done. Comparing a $600 luxury eyewear purchase to buying a $20 Target T-shirt was beyond unprofessional and honestly insulting. I requested to cancel my second order, and they refused. I immediately canceled my husband's upcoming appointment and left. I decided to go to a Dr closer to home and ended up here. DONT RECOMMEND THIS office!!! I'm sorry I did. There is a young blonde that is rude. I ordered glasses and she placed my prescription to low on the lenses so I had to go back and have them redone. They almost made me pay again to have fixed but a woman in the office okayed it to be redone. Then i ordered contacts and I told them I don't want daily's. They gave me daily's and I told them i could not see anything when I put them on the next day. They scheduled an appointment to see the Dr for contact lenses. I saw the Dr and he recommended a totally different set of contact lenses one to correct my stigmatism. So I asked why didn't they offer that to me before? When I went back to get the trial of lenses. I asked her to clean my glasses because I couldn't get the spot off. She determined it was a scratch and said I'd have to pay the full amount to get the lenses replaced. I haven't had the glasses for 2 months. So I will have to have this spot on my glasses for the next 2 years. I told her then I'll just have live like this? I said it's ridiculous no offer to help in any way. Dr. Hill provided me with a comprehensive eye evaluation when no one else could during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Kaiser optometry has been closed for more than four months, and I couldn't wait any longer with my poor vision. Dr. Hill patiently explained everything to me and offered many options for my prescriptions. His office adheres to strict social distancing rules and only permits a limited number of people in the office. Everyone was professional and I was in and out in a zip. read more

They couldn't care less about helping me with a problem. You're fine if everything goes smoothly, but as soon as you need them they'll ghost you. When I first got my contacts they said "no problem" getting the rebate. But, the problem started when the manufacturer rejected my rebate claim because of the receipt seal beach eyes gave me. I made two trips down to the office and emailed them 5 times. At first they agreed to help me, but then straight out ignored my emails. Fortunately, I was able to find an email address for a Johnson and Johnson regional manager and CC'ed seal beach eyes and all of a sudden I get a confirmation email for the rebate. Communication.After 23 days since I ordered my glasses, I didnt see any calls from them to tell me that my glasses were available. I waited three weeks to bother them for the status. The reason I say "try" is because with 6 tries, I either got hung up on while the phone was ringing, or I went to voicemail. Nobody answers. I got ONE call back each time. No Caller ID (what happened to your caller ID?!) and NO message? When I finally get through to the receptionist says my voicemail is full. Um, helloooo 2021? I guess it's OK they don't text or email. Or is it? Strike 2: They DIDNT EVEN ORDER my second pair of glasses. She says "remember, I said I would follow up with you about the second pair." Um, no, dear. I thought I was the customer, not Siri. But moot point, they DIDNT follow up with me (see strike 1). Strike 3: And this one is a little unfair. For the humongous bill I paid (INCLUDING my insurance plan) , I really thought I was getting 2 pairs of glasses. It's my fault for getting blindly up charged and not checking the receipt. But holy moly, I'm just going to switch to getting gouged from someone near me or (who knows how to use all that new fangled technology). I have been a patient here for over 10 years, but DO NOT GO HERE, as it is now terribly run and managed. They have recently violated HIPAA laws multiple times with me as a patient and have never acknowledged this or tried to do anything to correct it or make up for it. The front office staff and office manager are also very difficult to communicate with. I have had multiple issues regarding an annual visit in July 2024 that I have been trying to get resolved since the visit. It is now end of January 2025 and nothing is resolved yet. The front office staff and office manager will now not respond to my emails. The last email I got from the office manager was in October 2024. I have since sent multiple emails to the clinic trying to get answers, resolve the issues, and requested documents, and they have not responded to me at all and they are refusing to email me back. Furthermore, if you decide to go here for some reason, make sure you check the invoice and your EOB from insurance carefully. They charged me in full for a service that my insurance covered part of, and they are refusing to give me a refund for the portion that my insurance covered. If you do not have any issues regarding your visit, then this place is ok to go to because Dr. Nelsen is a good doctor and I've always liked him, but if you have any issues, then they are very difficult to deal with and the front office staff will ignore your attempts to resolve any issues. Also, after reading other reviews on here, it seems as though I am not the only one who has had problems with the office staff, and so this seems to be a pattern with them that is not good. read more

In addition to the exorbitant prices (and I have really good insurance), I was waiting three months for my glasses. I finally got really frustrated dealing with them and had my CC reverse the charges. I really don't believe the great reviews on this place. I am a relatively new patient. The office staff (especially the front desk) appear to very much dislike their jobs. Every time I have called, come in for an appt or stopped in for glasses or contacts...They seem to be bothered. They should be grateful for their jobs during these uncertain economic times. This used to be the best place to get an eye exam and glasses, with excellent help. Not anymore. I am now out over $500 for glasses that I can't wear because they cause extreme pain in my nose and forehead. They just say "come back and we'll adjust them". How many adjustments before they agree that the frames just aren't right for my head and face? Seven times for adjustment is enough. They have ripped off a senior citizen. I've been waiting for my glasses for over 3 weeks. I get it that it was the holiday season but three weeks is a long time. My sister ordered glasses at the same time and they assured her that her glasses would be ready before she has to return to school in Indiana on the 11th and now we will have to pay to ship them and they won't be adjusted for her face. After having a bad experience the first time I went to this place, I should have known better not to go back. Over a year ago, I ordered distance glasses. When I went to pick them up and try them on, they were blurry. The employee seemed annoyed when I told her and reluctantly went to the back to check on my problem. As it turned out, they had mistakenly used my reader prescription instead of distance. A couple weeks ago, I went in for a new exam and glasses, hoping my experience would be better than the first. They promised my glasses would be ready in 2 weeks so I called to check on them after 2 and a half weeks. Long story short, the employee could not tell me what the problem was and and would call me back "right away". No call for 4 days. I called again on day 5 to get a full refund and tell them how awful their customer service was. Spoke with a new employee who was very helpful and got things straightened out. He mentioned "he was training all the new staff they just hired". Great idea. I'm happy to find out that Seal Beach Eyes realized their customer service needed help, and I hope the newly trained staff will be more competent and professional. I don't think I have the patience to find out. I would not recommend ordering glasses from them, but I give the doctors 4 out of 5 stars. read more

Staff is always late. Had two appointments both times they were VERY late! They are untrained and unqualified. They don't call you when your glasses are ready. I had to call them. They are nice when you make purchase and overcharge for prescription sunglasses. When you consult them with an issue as the prescription is wrong , they are rude and say we will only try it once for a return without charging you ! How can you treat a customer like this who has just spent over 400$ & can't see out of what you produced ? Please take your business elsewhere they don't appreciate great customers like myself & you ! The positive reviews must be from friends and family! I will never go back here again . My eyes have been seeing Dr. Nelson for about 6 years now, and as someone with (formerly) -5.75 contact lenses, the optometrist has been a regular part of my annual battery of doctor visits. Making appointments has always been a breeze. I like that they are open a little later on Wed/Thu (til 7), and have limited hours on Saturdays. That makes it easy for those of us 9-5 drones to work it into our day. They are great about confirming appointments, sometimes aggressively so. For my last appointment I received both an email confirmation asking me to click to confirm the appointment, and the next day I received a phone call confirming the same thing. Dr. Nelson is amiable and easy to talk to. The exam goes quickly, and the receptionist/tech (usually Heather) does the preliminary lab work, including some peripheral vision/reaction tests. They also have a retinal scan machine, which allows them to get a picture of your retina & macula (which usually requires pupil dilation!) - this service is an extra $36.00. They were able to be competitive on pricing one year that I needed both contact lenses and glasses, but my insurance only covered one. I chose glasses, found contact lenses online for a great price, and they matched it. Any optometrist who does that gets five stars in my book! read more

I was referred here after I injured my eye and the urgent care clinic didn't have the proper equipment to examine my eye. Dr. Nelson was great at making me feel comfortable and explaining the details of my injury and proper treatment. My eye went from barely being able to open to normal in a matter of three days! All of the staff were very nice, and remembered who I was upon returning for a check-up for my eye. Not only did Dr. Nelson do a great job on treating my eye, he adjusted my eyeglasses for free when I mentioned they were hurting my ears. FYI: The initial examination fee is $116. read more

This place is awful at logistics. Ordered a pair of maui Jim's on a Wednesday with a promised delivery of Friday. Showed up Friday. No glasses., so they said should be tomorrow. Check saturday.....no glasses Tuesday rolls around. They check with maui jim this time.....they should have done that and not lied about delivery the first time around. Maui jim says delivery on Wednesday. I go in wednesday.....no glasses. Insist that their service is crap and they need to step it up. After a call to maui jim they finally find out they were delivered....just not sorted. First and last time I'll buy glasses here. read more

I would not consider obtaining glasses or contacts from anyone other than Seal Beach Eyes. They are over-the-top conscientious of my needs, bending over backwards to ensure that my rather complex prescriptions (especially my progressive lenses) are spot-on perfect for my needs. And on the one occasion that the lenses did not feel perfect (because I am hyper-sensitive to the setup of my progressive lenses), they re-made them gladly. Dr. Hill has taken an extraordinary amount of time to ensure that my prescription for reading and computer glasses, as well as my progressives, is perfect for me, and their optician Bob has always done a wonderful job of fitting them. I just can't think of a single thing I would want to see improved at this practice -- they are the best! read more

Too many doctors have turned to the all mighty buck and not what is the best for the patient. I felt very comfortable with his suggestions but he said it is ultimately up to me. I have been going to Dr. Nelson for many years. I'm always pleasantly surprised with the addition of new technology in their optical world. Dr. Nelson has always been patient with me as we go through the "tests". I would have easily given 5 stars except the last time I was there (about 1 month ago) - I was picking out some new frames and had a distasteful experience. The person helping me wanted to show me the other colors the frame came in. He went on his computer and did a google search. I saw that the frames were carried at Nordstrom in the color I was looking for. He said he would order them & let me know when they arrived. He then walked me through the pricing for my new frames. The frame itself was $70 more than Nordstrom! I don't mind paying Nordstrom prices but can't deal with a place that charges more than them for the exact same item. read more

I went to see Dr. Nelson for the first time last week. All the staff there were extremely friendly, helpful, and professional. Dr. Nelson was very thorough and I feel like I finally have the right prescription. The only thing is that this place is way over priced, even with insurance. At the last optometrist I went to, I paid at most $120 out of pocket for poly carbonate, anti-glare, anti-scratch lenses. Contacts were $85 per box. When I asked for the price here after seeing what my insurance would cover, they told me it would be $372 for one box of contacts and to replace my lenses with the new prescription. What an awesome experience! I made an appointment on-line and was able to fill out all the forms in advance (yea!) On the day of my appointment, everyone was super friendly and helpful. My optometrist was Dr. Hill and he was kind, personable, and thorough. Bob helped me choose my frames and was reassuring when I picked a style outside of my normal comfort zone.
