The visits get briefer and briefer from week to week. The crew seems to be focused mainly on getting to the next job. The quality of their cleaning is quite superficial compared to other services I've experienced. If you are considering them for a quick once-over (for instance, you are selling your house and need to get it spruced up), they would probably be an OK choice. For regular weekly or bi-weekly cleaning, I would look elsewhere. You can almost certainly get a better job done for less.

I love, love, love my cleaning crew that comes every 2 weeks (NOT nooks and crannies). They've been with me for years and I'm so thankful for them. But, unfortunately, it snowed and snowed last week and they couldn't make it and then they got the flu. In desperation, I called Nooks and Crannies to just maintain the house. I did a last minute booking and got 20% off. I had used them before, and they were okay, they were not to the level of my current cleaning crew, but I figured anything was better than nothing. They booked me from 4:45 pm - 7 pm. They showed up at 4:55 pm and they danced around my driveway and chatted. I don't care.... please, play, and joke. They didn't come into my house until after 5 pm. I had made sure to make all the beds, do all the dishes, clean all the counters, clear all the floors, etc. They arrived and I took the family out to dinner so we were out of their way. We came home around 6:40 pm and they were walking out the door (so they cleaned from 5ish to 6:40 out the door). They didn't dust or vacuum the bedrooms. (They were booked until 7 pm) they also didn't vacuum the carpet in the foyer. I went upstairs and did most of the dusting and vacuuming in the bedrooms in 30 minutes BY MYSELF. If the team had wanted to finish they could have. It's cool. I'm sure they were tired. HOWEVER, when I get a bill for 2 hours I get a little annoyed. It's $140 an hour. I am happy to pay and to tip on service rendered but when you didn't work the full 2 hours .... no, just no. Additionally, my husband shared with me that he overheard them arguing about the number of hours they were getting paid for in my foyer. (I guess that's what they were doing vs vacuuming the foyer rug). I emailed them manager back and inquire about why I was billed for 2 hours when they didn't work 2 hours. She responded that her crew worked "really hard" because my house was "quite dirty" IF my house was "quite dirty" why would they leave 20 minutes early?! Look. I will admit when my house is "quite dirty" but I had busted my butt this week to ensure it wasn't dirty. In fact, neighbors had come in and commented "wow your house is really clean." Is this how Nooks and Crannies keeps their clients? If you're in Cville just avoid this cleaning service..... super grumpy about this tonight and thankful for my regular cleaning crew. If you have pets, kids, you know, show any wear and tear and actually LIVE in your house prepare to be judged by this cleaning service. I don't know about you, but I work hard both professionally and domestically, and I don't need this negativity in my life. And I had the honor of paying a pretty penny for it, too.

If you leave dishes in the sink, they wash them...my bathroom has never been cleaner and there's no dust. I have two cats and a dog, and with a request (and small fee) they wash the walls too...I have never been happier with their service. They are also amazingly responsive on email and the phone. And customer service is important to them. Best decision I ever made.

Walt and his team were attentive, thorough, and went above and beyond to make sure the job was well done and that we were satisfied. Naturally, as we prepare to sell our house we wanted the same level of detail, so we called and scheduled with them again. I'm not sure within the last three years if this team was abducted by aliens and replaced by their evil doppelgangers, or if they just don't care anymore, but this experience was the polar opposite. The day prior to our appointment we received an email that gave some basic instructions, but what was striking was a paragraph that said "Please do not call us on the day of your job asking for a specific time. You will not be given one. Due to the nature of our work we cannot give out specific or estimated timing on the day of your scheduled job. You will receive an "on-the-way" text if you've provided a cell phone number." OK. That's a little off putting, but we get it. Some jobs are bigger than others, but even the cable guy gives you a range. Day of the appointment arrives and two hours are spent clearing the decks and porches. And the waiting begins..... Finally at 3:00pm a text is sent to the company to get an idea of the latest time they will arrive. At this time the office manager says, "Oh, he's been there and left". What? What happened to the on the way text? There was no knock on the door and no phone calls. Effectively the receptionist told us that there is a car blocking the driveway and he couldn't get his truck in to turn it around. No, we say. There is no car blocking the driveway, plenty of room. Actually, says the OM, you have a difficult driveway to get up and Walt (company owner) remembered this and didn't have the right equipment to get up your driveway. It's in the shop in Harrisonburg, so he's not going to be there today (we have a bit of a hill to get up). Wait we say, which is it? A car blocking the driveway or lack of equipment? At this point we are told the house phone was called and a message was left telling us this information. That's a tough sell, as the land line has been disconnected for about 5 months. After much back and forth we basically tell said receptionist that this is extremely poor business decisions and terrible customer service as we have all of our porch furniture sitting in the yard, and are planning on staining the decks tomorrow. Not my problem was the message from good ol Busy B. We asked to have the owner call us. We were told that he doesn't have signal. Maybe he'll call, maybe he won't. At this point we are at a loss. It looks like the B is too busy to come do the job they committed to. So we begin to look for other options. Suddenly, at 4:00 pm, a white pickup pulls into the driveway with no special equipment and somehow navigates the 'obstacle course' of the driveway blocking car. The owner himself gets out of the pickup. He made no apology. When asked why he didn't bother to call or knock to let us know he had made an attempt. He then tells us that he had both knees replaced a few months ago and didn't want to walk up the driveway. He also tells us that getting our house power washed is 'not a crisis', and that him living with cancer over the past two years is. What? No one called it a crisis, just really poor customer service and crappy attitudes when asked why no one had showed up or called. I'm very sorry for your medical conditions, but that's not my concern. If it's that bad, maybe you should have sent someone else. Finally the power washing begins. No real apology for the lack of communication or the decision not to show up. During the washing session, there were some texts back and forth to our oh so happy OM who said that a check would be needed at the end of the session. We said we would pay electronically just like the last time. 6:30 rolls around and we go outside to look at the job. First thing noted was that the walks and back patio were not done. An argument ensues that those have never been done and that was not on the work order. On the contrary we say, they were done last time and we specifically stated that we did not want the deck surfaces washed (which they did). On the previous you talked about how we needed to fill sand back in the walks after the session. After more arguing back and forth, out he goes to finish the job we hired him for. Bottom line is this. The entire experience from top to bottom was terrible. Communication was terrible, service was terrible, attitudes were terrible, integrity was terrible, and the job was marginal. It's unfortunate that this occurred. We would not recommend services from this company at all. Both the office staff as well as the owner were argumentative, and it appeared clear he did not want to do this job.

Long review but it's worth the read:…read more I cannot say enough good things about A-1 Carpet cleaners. From the responsive scheduling to the thorough carpet and rug cleaning. We are in the military and have used many carpet cleaning companies around the US. We have 3 pets (cat + 2 large dogs) and 2 kids (potty training age and infant). We only rented this house for a year, but by the time we were ready to move out you could see outlines of all the furniture and the carpet was 10x darker in high traffic areas. Joe was so knowledgeable on what works and why. He didn't try to upsell you on nonsense and he graciously gave me some discounts after discussing all the rugs and carpet needs. I rented a 1900sq ft house and ~1500 of it was carpeted. I knew this was going to be a dirty job. I even saw the water being drained after he was finished and let's just say red clay dirt is not pet friendly. I warned Joe that this isn't our first rodeo with renting and landlords often try to take our deposits. They claim that the pet odor is still too strong or they need us to pay for more cleanings (one made us clean 3x). He promised the carpets would look better than before we moved in and he was right!! I got a phone call that same week saying they were going to return our deposit and they were so thankful for how well we took care of their house. Mind blown is an understatement. Stop searching and just pick Joe!
