I found this place by Googling "Grand Rapids cupcakes" and looking for the result that was closest to the location of our party. Pretty much a random shot in the dark...that paid off, big time! Tracey was very responsive to questions and placing an order by email, which this reviewer always appreciates. We ordered two dozen cupcakes in a variety of flavors (peanut butter chocolate, coconut, lemon, red velvet, german chocolate, and yellow), with simple, colorful flower decorations--although they can do all kinds of custom decoration--the album on the bakery's facebook page shows some super adorable kitten, puppy, cow, ninja turtle, and Monsters Inc. creations! We showed up at noon yesterday a little anxious....would the order actually be ready? Would it be what we asked for? And most of all, would the cupcakes be good? Mediocre cupcakes can be so disappointing, and we didn't know what to expect. No need to worry! Our order was ready for us to pick up, and we availed ourselves of the samples by the cash register and were out the door and on our way in about 30 seconds. Helpfully, the carriers had cute labels identifying the flavors of each cupcake. And now, the most important part: the cupcakes were delicious. Moist and flavorful, and the frosting, while plentiful, wasn't too sweet--several chronic frosting-scraper-offers in our group all said that they enjoyed the frosting on these. They're sized nicely so that you can try two...or, you know, three....different flavors without dying. My favorite was the lemon. Good service, reasonable prices, delicious cupcakes! I have been going to Sara's Sweets for a few years now. They always have the most delicious and flavorful birthday cakes, but this year they really outdid themselves! I called to order this cake without much time in advance. They were very enthusiastic and willing to work with my ideas, despite it being near a holiday. Ordered a cake for a birthday party. My request was to have it decorated like a football jersey so it was masculine. I actually went in and spoke with someone before placing the order. When I went to pick it up I was given a sheet cake with scalloped edges, name , age, and a Michigan state S. The cake looked exactly like one I could have gotten at a local grocery store and I was charged $85. I issued a complaint about the cake but have not received a response from the bakery. I was not left with many options when I went to pick it up the day of the party. I recommend finding another bakery. read more

We had an amazing experience with Sara's Sweets Bakery! We ordered a custom cake for our son's first birthday party and the process was wonderful from start to finish. They put an amazing amount of detail into the 3D decorations on that topped the cake, more even than I would have expected! More than that, the cake also tasted great, which in our experience is often not the case with a detailed decorated cake. Went in on a whim to get sweets with my family. It was BOGO cupcakes (bonus). There was a good selection of different cupcakes and a few other sweets. The vanilla and chocolate cupcakes were so good! These cupcakes are amazing. They're delicious and moist, with fluffy buttercream. I prefer the Reeses filled cupcake, which is a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting, filled with Reese's peanut butter cups. She also has a die for Majic bar. That has Chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut and other goodies. She has great cookies too. Chewy and amazing! They have too many types of cupcakes to list. Also, does great custom cakes. The first time I came in here I was looking for some yummy cupcakes to say "thank you" to my boyfriends family for helping me move... I ordered a random selection of 6 cupcakes. One of them was strawberry, which is my favorite, so after getting back in my car & having a stare down with the strawberry cupcake, I decided to give in & have that one all to myself. I'm so glad I did because now they have a customer for life. They have the perfect amount of flavor & sweetness & a perfect texture to both the actual cake and the frosting. I really like the variety of cupcakes they carry too. You can always get the basics, and then there's different ones like german chocolate cake or coconut. They also have a BOGO deal on cupcakes for specific days of the week which I think is awesome. Additionally, the woman who has been in there every time I've gone in is a sweetheart. You can tell she truly cares and is passionate about what she does, which is super admirable & makes me want to come back even more because I trust she puts all her time, effort & love into every single cupcake. I ordered a marble cake with Bavarian filling and buttercream frosting. The frosting has WAAAAY too much sugar. It was grainy and letting it sit to room temp only helped a little. The Bavarian cream filling was paper thin to non-existent. The script on top and the roses were very nice but that alone doesn't make up for the best parts of the cake being underwhelming. I will not order again even if I got another coupon from The Entertainment Book. I overheard two of my female guests mention a Meijer cake would have been better. My mom was embarrassed but I took the blame openly. Thanks Sara. If I could, I would upload the picture of the ultra thin layer of filling but alas this site doesn't have that option. read more

I have never posted an online review before but I wanted to take the time in this instance because this vendor stepped in within HOURS of our event when the previous baker flaked at the last minute. She created a beautiful cake at the last minute and was very professional when other bakers just laughed at the request. The cake looked amazing and tasted great. Review on Sara's Sweets located by Celebration Theater I tried almost everything they had in the place as I was so excited to have a bakery on the NE side of town. Unfortunately, cupcakes tried, peanut butter and red velvet were dry. Cake pops cute idea but dry and hard. Frosting was okay nothing to write home about. Brownie on the other hand was sweet, chocolate really gooey and oh so good! Knocked this one out of the park and the oatmeal was a twist. Chocolate chip cookie was again "store bought quality". In 32 years that I have planned parties for my kids and grandkids I have never had a cake or service as horrible as here... I will say this it was decorated beautifully but then the quality and taste goes out the window as soon as the cake was cut into... The cake became an instant landslide and the taste and texture was just like nothing I can describe as tasting before... It was not good.... The owner who we will call T was unprofessional in handling a call about said cake and when I showed up at her shop was not willing to compensate for any of the $80 spent... Being new to GR, I was in search of a Gluten Free (GF) cake for my son who has a gluten allergy. I found this bakery makes gluten free cakes by order. The cake was absolutely AWESOME. Best GF cake I've had by far. I would highly recommend. The buttercream frosting was also great. I'm generally not a big buttercream fan because it is usually too heavy and thick. Not this one! Went to the bakery today to buy cupcakes. They were out of their usual container and when I asked for two separate containers they said they would need to charge me for the second container. When I said the same to ridiculous they then became very rude. After I paid there was no thank you or anything else nice said.
