I went last year for Apple picking and had a nice experience, this year however was not so nice. I wanted to purchase bags just for the kids but was told I had to pay for everyone even if they are not picking and if I didn't want to purchase a bag then it would be $10 just to walk into the orchard, the woman was extremely rude and had a horrible attitude. So I pay close to $40 and move on. The place is so crowded and the wait for donuts was at least 40 minutes. Maybe minor things compared to other places, but when you want that small town farm experience you expect decent prices and hospitality, this place is indeed lacking in both. After having enjoyed several other Orchard/Farm Market cider donuts around the Capital Region, I definitely think Saratoga Apple has THE best donuts. They are amazing, with a thin crunch on the outside, light, cakey inside, and they almost have a hint, just a hint, of some kind of citrus, like orange or lemon. This apple orchard and market are a good place to go on a weekend trip. They have a wide variety of things to choose from, and allow you to pick your own apples at a set price. Unfortunately, the staff was very rude to me and my friend today. We were hoping to share a bag, and we innocently asked if this was okay. The store clerk proceeded to force us to get our own bags, saying one of us could not get on the orchard if we didn't buy two bags. Later, we noticed that several people on the orchard were indeed sharing bags and I felt cheated. read more

This has to be one of the WORST orchards I have ever been to. I went there with my business partner to order pies for Thanksgiving. I was looking for 20 but the owner (an older French woman) must have thought that I asked her to GIVE them to me. She was rude and condescending and hemmed and hawed about making 20. We agreed on 10 and we picked them up 3 days later. When we arrived, they said that they didn't have boxes for us to put the 10 pies in (although we simply walked over and took one to put the pies in the back of the car). We proceeded to deliver the pies and EVERY SINGLE PIE WAS BURNT. That's about $170 down the drain. Imagine showing up to give a client a burnt pie. In addition, I speak French and said something to her. My partner who does not speak French said Bonjour and the woman told her that her accent was wrong. Well......... I can't tell you which was worst - the pies or the horrible business sense and customer service. If you want EXCELLENT pies - go to Smith's in Galway and skip Saratoga Apple. read more

Love this place. All the cider products and apples are top notch. They even have other produce (Pumpkins) at reasonable prices.

We took my 9- and 3-year-old children to Saratoga Apple today but we left there with no apples and both of my kids confused and in tears. We wanted to purchase the medium sized $12 bag, the perfect amount for our small family, but I was told that in order for all 4 of us to participate in the picking, we would actually have to pay $24 for "entry for 4 people" and twice as many apples. Even worse, I later discovered that the Saratoga Apple website says "no admission." As a young family, not only can't we eat 25 pounds of apples, we also have to look for fun activities that fit into our budget. But how do I explain to my kids that only one of them gets to go because I didn't bring enough money for all of us? My 9-year-old's response to the situation was to tell her brother that Saratoga Apple was being "greedy." Clearly she learned the lesson I was teaching about sticking to your principles and not allowing yourself to be taken advantage of. It used to be that picking your own fruits and vegetables was a fun and low-cost family activity. We've had many wonderful summers picking our own at local farms and have only ever been asked to pay for the fruit we picked. Patronizing local farms is important to us but we'd rather go to a place that appreciates us, rather than one that penalizes me for bringing the whole family. read more

They charge $10 per person no matter how many apples you pick. We went 30 min before closing for a young child to have the experience and only wanted to buy one bag. We were told we had to have every person pay for a bag even if we weren't going to pick. read more

Living locally, this is my favorite place to get fresh, delicious apples. There are many different varieties and you can get them year round and they still taste as though they were just picked. Their cider donuts are very good, too! Their weak link is their cider. It's very watery with not alot of flavor. If you want awesome, out-of-this-world, tastes-like-your-drinking-an-apple cider, you have to get it from Hicks Orchards (Hannaford in Saratoga also sells it during the fall season). Overall, I enjoy the apples and donuts from Saratoga Apple and I like supporting a local business. Their cortland apples also make awesome pies and apple crisp! read more

I could go on and on about how wonderful this place is but I will try to keep it short and sweet. From a tractor ride to apple picking and cider donuts, this place has everything you're looking for in a perfect fall day. There are views of the mountains and foliage from the orchard and they are breathtaking. They also make their own hard cider, which is tasty. Also a gorgeous drive from Saratoga Springs to this spot that feels a bit off-the-grid. Highly recommend! read more

This place has a decent Apple orchard with limited selection for picking. The thing that really makes this place avoidable are the high prices An Extremely RUDE staff. These are supposed to be nice people providing a meaningful experienced for out of town visitors, but instead they are condescending and Rude. Best to avoid this place and take your business elsewhere. On the food side the donuts are nothing to praise and the apples are in bad shape. read more

Look to spend a lot of money to take a family of 4 or more apple picking. You will be paying per person to pick and they won't budge. Even if someone in the group is just along for the fun and helping the little ones. Never will I go to this place again.. the people that love this place obviously don't go to pick apples. If you just want to buy the apples and donuts not a bad place...some of the staff have NO personalities what so ever and can be rude at times. read more

I have been going to saratoga Apple for about 20 years. But recently they have just been worse every year. This past week I went with my family and it was sadly the last time I will have gone. The staff is VERY rude. If you want to be insulted and talked down to then this is the place for you. We had 12 people in our group. We originally bought 10 bags when first getting there because 2 people showed up late and we went back in to get their bags once they got there. I went in with them to purchase their bags and the cashier was so ridiculous. I informed her we were with a group and all had our bags with everyone else outside and we just needed 2 more. She responded with "well you will each need one or you won't be allowed on the tractor." I told her once again that i already had a bag and I just wanted 2 more. She said "OK I was just trying to save you a trip back in here because you can't get on the tractor without one. So when you need to get on the tractor and need a bag just come back in." Seriously? She's making me feel like I'm trying to be some kind of theif after we have already spent $100 on bags! So I brushed it off and took the bags and started to walk out when she comes up behind me, grabs my shoulder and tells me I'm going to need a bag to get on. Did she not understand that I already had one the first few times I told her? So anyway we went and did the apple picking which was fine but I wish the trees were marked. Afterward we went in for hot cider and donuts. The cider was delicious! I'm used to always getting the donuts hot but the man working wouldn't let us have the fresh ones, he would only let us take the bags that had already been sitting on the counter for a while so that was disappointing. This place would be a nice place to go with the family of the people that worked there weren't on mission to destroy everyone's experience. read more

WORST APPLE PICKING EXPERIENCE EVER! The payment process is over priced the workers are rude. My daughter was yelled at by one of the workers because she tossed a rotten apple on the ground. She was told that if she picked it, it had to go in her bag.........Never again will we go to such a rotten place. So after reading Otis review I had to go see this donut robot machine for myself plus of course I need to pick some apples. When we arrive it was pretty busy and crowed, which I was expecting it to be. The line was slow moving because they only had 1 person working. That was annoying but we weren't in a rush. We received our bag and map to tell you where you can find what particular apples you you want to pick. The bag supposedly holds 10 lbs of apples, ( 14.00 ) which I thought was pretty accurate, a little expensive but you are paying for the experience so keep that in mind. So after you pay for your bag, you wait for 1 of their 3 tracks to come and get you to bring you to the fields. If you wanted to walk you can we opt for the track because it was quite hot out. The tracker ended up dropping us at the very back of the orchard. We started picking, one thing that is annoying is that I rather have all the trees label as a oppose to a map. No matter what the map says it looked like all the apples were the same other than the green apples. All the apples were in good condition in the back of the orchard as we walked towards the front of the orchard the trees were more picked through. ( which is to be expected ) Alot of trees up front had apples that had punctured and bees on them. Also there is no one out in the orchards to help people on where to find the different variety's of apples other than the occasionally track driver bring people back and forth, and relying on the map isn't that reliable. So after picking we loaded our car with the apples and went to get some donuts. While my wife was waiting in line I went in and looked around their "store" I guess you can call it. They sell pies and produce, along with other things like jelly's and stuff like that . I didn't buy any because I was just there for the donuts. So we ended up getting a half of a dozen ( 4.00 ) which was not enough for me. I couldn't even get out of the store without eating one right away. They were fried prefect and had just the right amount of sugar on them....DELISIOUS! read more

This place is usually pretty reliable for good apples, hence the name. Prices are pretty high considering the orchard is right there, and you can get the same quality cheaper at any other venue in the area. It's pretty informal inside (cluttered, not particularly clean or bright, more like a roadside stand with a permanant roof overhead); usually with a good selection of vegetables and other local stuff, like honey, maple syrup, etc. Nothing particularly special about the place IMO, worth a stop in if you're passing by. However, a BIG BUT...be VERY careful of the traffic during the fall picking season. If you are foolish enough to try to cross the road (the orchard's on one side, the store's on the other), be VERY, VERY VERY careful, especially if you have kids. Better to just purchase your apple bag (more later), then drive accross the road and park on that side. This is a high speed road, drivers are not always paying attention in this area, and there are never police or traffic warning signs. The store puts up a couple yellow cones, big deal, but otherwise you're taking your life into your hands crossing that road. They do offer periodic wagon rides, pulled by a slow-moving farm tractor, which will cross the road for you and bring you the 100 feet to the picking area, but I don't think that's any safer than walking across. I drive past this place every day and am constantly worried that some poor family is going to get mowed down by a speeding car. Coming from the direction of Schuylerville the store is around a blind curve and it's just going to take some nut from Vermont who's unfamiliar with the area, scooting along in his Subaru, and BAM, someone's going to be wearing a "Vermont Strong" license plate on their face. My advice to the owners would be to put out more flags and prominent warnings (call the Town Highway Department for advice, they'd probably install a sign for free!), at least on weekends during picking season. Oh yeah, also, charging extra for the "entertainment" value of "pick-you-own" seems pretty lame. I would never pay extra just to walk around the orchard, what other PYO operation does this? Right up the road, Hand Market just charges you for what you pick by weight, same with Winney's Blueberry place up the road in Northumberland. You pick, you pay by weight, simple. Not Saratoga Apple, though, they expect you to pay extra for the "priviledge" of (a) running the traffic gauntlet to reach their orchard, and then (b) picking the ultra-rare and ultra-desirable macinosh apples from the orchard (which taste 100% the same as the stuff you get at Hannaford, Price Chopper, or even Byrons's in Schuylerville for 25% less. But then again, I guess you consider the ambiance and opportuntity to buy some fat-saturated cider donuts, too! Overall it's Ok. I do stop in occasionally. The apples are not always as great at you would expect from an orchard seller, in my experience living in the area over 10 years, it's a 50/50 whether you'll be getting a bag of super-crispy perfect apples, or just average stuff, odds are better at Hannaford, actually. read more

While visiting Lake George we decided to go apple picking and this orchard was recommended to us. We arrived with a group of 8 people. We went inside to get bags and had a terrible time understanding what the lady behind the counter was trying to say because of her thick French accent. We ALL were required to purchase a $10 bag even though only 4-5 of us wanted apples. Also there wasn't any signage to advise us of the variety of apples that we were picking. In addition almost 2/3 of the orchard was roped off with yellow tape so you couldn't go in many areas to pick. I wouldn't recommend this orchard. read more
