This is your typical swanky Chicago salon. I was able to get an appointment the day before and Rosa knew exactly what I needed and we had a great conversation. I will give them credit for one thing: they are ALWAYS super nice. Which is why I am so sad to be leaving but I can't anymore. EVERYONE WANTS TO MAKE MY HAIR SUPER DARK even though I hate it. HATE it. I KEEP ASKING for my hair to remain a medium brown and they don't do what I ask and pay for. I have tried THREE stylists, and it's all the same. And they try to tell me it's not darker. Just look at the photo. It's in the exact same spot in my apartment, roughly same time of day. (My makeup is different and there's a light on in the back but that's the only difference.) First I tried Tasha. She kept making my hair very dark. The last straw was when I asked for long bangs (I said below my eyebrows) and I ended up with bangs an inch ABOVE my eyebrows. I was done. Next I tried Ivy. She's very talented but she's completely uncommitted to her job. She's traveling at least half the year and 3 out of 4 times (no, really) she'll pass you off to Ana. Ana's super nice too but if I pick a stylist on purpose, I don't wanna see someone else. Ivy also couldn't be bothered to write down my color, so I ended up with TERRIBLE banding (which she tried to tell me wasn't there) because I was bouncing back & forth between them so much. Finally I was like, you know what, if Ivy can't commit to her job then forget her, I'll just stick with Ana. Super sweet. But once more I ended up with SUPER DARK hair. Too dark for my skin tone. She said it was the same color. Look at the photo and make up your own mind. So yeah, I'm done. If I'm gonna pay a lot of money for hair, it needs to be what I ask for. Period read more

There are no words for the joy I feel about my new haircut and balayage from Rosa. I came in depressed, feeling really ugly. My hair is super fine and it was limp, damaged, too long and I felt drab, lacking all sense of confidence. Rosa was beyond nice, full of ideas and knew just what to do! Yesterday I went to get a haircut and color at a salon and requested to do a dark brown balayage treatment. I naturally have black hair and I wanted a subtle coloring of my hair and wanted to keep some of the natural black. The salon ended up making my hair way too light and bleaching all my hair. It ended up looking very orange. I panicked and was so upset and called Goran Coban Salon the next day to see if they could fix my hair. I had Tasha as my colorist and she SAVED my hair. She reassured me that she could get it to the color I wanted and fix what was done. It looked so much better. It perfectly blended with my hair and and she gave me the gorgeous brown I was looking for that matched well with my skin tone and natural black hair. She also gave me great recommendations for products. I also want to give props to the salon itself for having excellent customer service and squeezing me in last minute. It's very clean, sleek, and modern looking and also enough distancing of chairs and equipment for those who are concerned about it during this time. Made a last minute appointment on a Wednesday and I'm glad I did. It's on the 2nd floor and the entrance is tucked between 2 restaurants, so it's easy to miss. When you walk in it's very clean and chic. Upon arrival the receptionist took my bag and coat and offered some water/ wine/ etc. My stylist, Rachel, took her time and did an amazing job! Before she did anything we had a mini consult and she looked at how my hair had been previously cut and asked if I wanted the same thing (I did). It's not cheap but I am used to these prizes in my home country and I was happy with the result. I was visiting Chicago for three weeks and thought I should try a hair salon here. My hair dresser in Sweden had moved so I figured it would be fun to try something new.. Read the many good reviews but also the few bad ones, I felt confident but I also know that my Nordic blonde hair can be tricky for hair dressers in the US. I visited the salon and booked my appointment there for the same week. I realized after that I might have asked for the wrong service (partial highlights instead of full) so I replied to my appointment confirmation email and they were quick to reply and sort it out. I didn't want to call because I don't have a US phone operator. Worked great with email! On my appointment day I came in and was offered coffee, tea, water or wine by the receptionist. Then Gabi and I consulted about my hair. She came with great suggestions and also explained what would work and what and why some stuff would leave me unsatisfied after a couple of weeks. We decided to highlight my roots but spread them out a little more to get more dimensions and to make the future outgrown his blend in better. Essentially this would be great for my hair because I won't need to highlight my hair as often. The highlights and the cold tone came out great and she gave me a really beautiful haircut. Robert is the absolute best!! Love what he did with my hair considering I'm a brunette and usually leave a salon with reddish highlights (which is normal because dark hair pulls red) (but I did not know that!) Sam did such an amazing job on my hair! I have been wanting a nice blended highlight for long so that was a natural blonde color and so many stylists just couldn't nail it. Not only did she transform my hair but the entire experience was incredible. The salon is very open and relaxing and Sam really took her time making sure everything was done right. I'm not a big salon gal. I always feel like a mop sitting in that chair with my unstyled hair. But the staff here is really quite welcoming. The whole place is spacious and modern. It's a nice experience. I actually had my wedding hair done here by someone who no longer works here, but I know they are great at up dos and wedding styling. I was a bit annoyed that a trial was required (okay I know some brides are crazy) and that trial was a full price, as though I actually had my wedding hair done. Wedding Party at Goran Coban Salon! I had the pleasure to rent the location for my wedding party and wow was it a perfect location! Gabi and Goran, thank you for your hospitality and professionalism! They assisted us in organizing and setting up, which they did not have to, but their positive personalities just made this event that much more fun with taking stress off our shoulder by knowing we can trust them for our special day. Super hostile!! Called me to scold me because I cancelled an appointment. What the heck is that? I called yesterday for an EMERGENCY quick trim/adjustment. The man I spoke with was nice enough to speak with a stylist and both of them decided they could fit me in on the following day, in the morning. That was so accommodating of them, and I've been excited to find my new regular stylist since moving to the city. (FYI, never book anything at Supercuts if you've been going to salons for a few years. Or just in general ) So everything is great, they have made a lasting first impression... until morning came. I wound up leaving the city and going to suburbs that night. I do not carry my cell with me ever. When I wake up in the morning, about an hour drive from salon and 20 minutes from appointment, I quickly call and explain to I believe the same man why I have to cancel last minute. I apologized sincerely and let him know once I get the chance (after reviewing my calendar) I really would love to reschedule and admitted several times that I made a mistake, and discovered the stylist was going to "come in early for me". Not sure how true that is at this point but regardless, I scheduled an appointment that was only for 30 minutes (she's busy but can do 10-10:30 and we agreed 30 minutes is enough) and I know that time is money for stylists. Shouldn't be a huge deal. Once getting off the phone, I get a call about 3 minutes later FROM THE STYLIST. She called me back to tell me how she came in early for me, wouldn't let me speak, and basically just wanted to b*** at me for canceling on her!! WHO DOES THAT AS A PROFESSIONAL AND AS A BUSINESS YOU DO NOT CALL PEOPLE AFTER THEY HAVE CANCELLED AN APPOINTMENT TO COMPLAIN AT THEM ABOUT IT. She wouldn't let me speak and was the most ridiculous thing ever. Boo hoo. I cancelled last minute. It happens. It felt like I was in high school. I was looking to get my hair colored and cut here regularly but forget that. I'll take my money somewhere else and maybe someone can pull that thorny stick out of her you-know-what. Why would you call someone after they cancel and speak the way she did to me and not let me speak? So hostile and sucks that she's such an angry person. Excellent service and skilled staff! From the second I stepped into the salon I was greeted warmly by someone at the front desk. I got a conditioning treatment and a trim done by Margaret - she was extremely helpful and friendly. I cut my own hair about five months ago so a lot of my layers were uneven and she fixed them without really cutting any of my length. Afterwards, she diffused my hair, leaving me with soft beautiful natural curls. She also recommended some good products for my texture. Overall cost was close to 60$ (without tip) but given the location and results, I think it was worth the price. Excited to go back! read more

This place is AMAZING. I came here after I read all the raving reviews of Liz, and she is as good as it gets! I had gotten a balayage awhile back from a salon I LOVED (but it was way too pricey), and it was starting to turn a brassy/copper color at the ends. Also my ends were FRIED. Liz cut off all the horrible ends and toned down the color. My hair felt so light and soft after. I asked her what products she used, and instead of pushing her product line on me, and she suggested cheaper alternatives at Ulta/Sephora. The price was also completely reasonable for a cut/tone/style (for the same price, I could only get a tone and bang trim at the old salon I went to). I love it/her. I want to keep her a secret because she is actually THAT good. Seriously, I walked out feeling like I belonged in a Pantene commercial. Would highly recommend! PS. Don't book through their online Whittl system unless you absolutely have to. I tried doing that and I called in to check the appointment was confirmed. It turns out that Whittl doesn't have the proper listing of what category the stylists are, and it says that stylists are available when they aren't. read more
