Sara Long atin this place several times (she's a friend of mine, and she prefers everything "long" hence her last name of choice), to the point where the owners decided to rename the restaurant "Sara Long Atin Side Here" (their English isn't very good). So the restaurant "Sara Long Ate Inside Here" (or SLASH for short) did not fit on any signs, so they arbitrarily cut off the last two words, and you're left with Sara Long Atin. Now you know the back story. What to get: Pork Adobo What else: Anything from their buffet in the back of the store And: and what? Stop grilling me, damn it. And: this is getting f***ing ridiculous dude. Who are you anyway? And why are you asking me all these questions in the middle of my own review? To be honest I was disappointed. The vast majority of the unique spectacular ethnic foods I've tried around Queens based on Yelp recommendations, rocked my world. And I'm open to anything, and I've loved Indonesian food before, especially in Holland. I've had some in Philly that was pretty good too. But this particular place didn't do it for me. (a) Food was lukewarm, in fact more cold than lukewarm (b) Food didn't taste amazing (c) Service was angry or something (d) High expectations based on other reviews (e) Food tour partner started feeling sick just from a few bites, so it wasn't sharable either (f) Cats enjoyed the Pork Adobo I think a lot of places like that it is homestyle and so incredibly cheap. But I ordered two or three things, I have no idea what they were, from the buffet. I asked for "Pork Adobo" as one of them, she didn't respond, I assume that was one of the things she put in my to go box. The person serving wasn't big on communication, and wasn't too friendly either. She was a younger girl and it was nearly closing time, so maybe that's why. But on the other hand, the places was packed full of locals that were gulping down the food, and there was someone behind me in line for food. Perhaps it's better when it's fresh, earlier in the day. We have a place in Buffalo like that (Niagara Cafe - Puerto Rican). I'd be willing to give it a try another time with a friend. But based on my first experience here, to be totally honest, the majority of everything was given to the cats. I only had a few bites, and my food tour partner barely even tasted our food before deciding she doesn't like Filipino food. Hopefully we can change that in future. It's a super cool set-up though. A grocery store with a bunch of hot homemade dishes in the back, sitting out, waiting to be ordered and eaten. It's pretty cheap and it's the kind of place that would totally rock your world and define "secret hole in wall" if you loved the food. And you may - you should give it a try. I may just not know enough about Filipino cuisine to know what it's supposed to taste like. This may be amazing for you, but for me, it wasn't. The grocery portion of the store is pretty sparse, but I am giving it 5 stars for the carinderia (eatery) in the back. It's clean, no-frills, and reasonably priced. As others have mentioned, they have a huge selection of food, and I have to say, in terms of taste, it's the closest I've come a home-cooked Filipino meal since I moved to New York! Catering Review: 6/6/15 My wife and I decided to cater for our daughter's 1st birthday. We went to the actual location to try some of the food, particularly the pancit palabok and the bbq. The pancit palabok came with thick noodles, with a very delicious sauce, meat and shrimp, and sliced hard boiled eggs on top. Thank god for no weird seafood pieces like chopped squid like I've found at other places. The pork and chicken bbq, on the other hand, were just okay. We opted not to order for catering at a pricey $2.50 a stick. We did sit down for lunch and tried the pork adobo as well but it was way too oily and the pork had too much fat on it. For the party, we ordered: 100 pieces of lumpia shanghai- standard, crispy, a hit with the kids especially. 25 pieces of turon- fried banana/jack fruit dusted usuaully with brown sugar wrapped in spring roll paper and fried, yummy! 1 tray of pancit palabok- as memtioned above, very good. 1/2 tray of Beef Kalderetta- spicy beef stew with chopped peppers and carrots. The beef was very tender, moist, easily cut with some but not too much fat on it. Very delicious. 1/2 tray of bicol express- spicy pork dish- the only dish I did not get to try much of as we were hosting the party. I did not hear anything bad about it though. We opted to make our own lechon kawalli (fried pork belly) because catering for that was too overpriced here. [check out my Yelp review for Fortune chinese supermarket] Note: 1/2 tray is really the way to go here. It's not that they have only one sized tray that they fill half of. Instead it is a slightly less deeper tray which in my opinion holds almost the same amount of beef/food/etc and at about half the listed price of the full tray item. We still had so much leftovers for the next few days after the party which had about 25 guests. As the closest location to us here in Queens, this business is definitely a great place to cater from and one we will keep in mind for future special occasions. read more

Food wasn't served warmed when I ate it at the restaurant, they only warmed up the noodle from the microwave. Didn't finish my meal so I took it to go, the food tasted way better after I microwaved it. Got the kare kare (tasted really bland and lacked seasoning), the goat stew (was delicious!), and beef steak (yummy only after heating it up & was a bit too salty). The best Filipino buffet restaurant in Queens, NY. Their selection of foods are great, you can taste the authentic Filipino dishes especially the KALDERETANG KAMBING and BEEF BISTEK. They even expand their place, having a wide variety of dry goods and grocery products. You can also find here the Goldilocks frozen siomai and siopao. I hope they can sell again the KOPIKO LOW ACID. Good Filipino place in Elmhurst. The service is good and efficient for most of the times I went there. The food is good - depending on what you get and the timing should be also considered. The pancit is best eaten on the spot; it will get cooler and would not taste as good. But the combos are affordable and good, despite serving a simple combo of rice and meat. Plus, there is a lot of options to choose from, good for those who go there frequently. The chicken adobo was good, but had lots of bone fragments to get around the meat. Overall, I hadn't tried other Filipino places, but this is a good start for those who hadn't tried Filipino food. read more

Very convenient because can get cooked food and grocery needs from the same place. Combo prices are higher than Roosevelt Ave. area but food options are delicious, although a bit oily. Choice of rice or pancit bihon. No food labels maybe because they do change items daily, aside from the regular offerings, but maybe a chalk board with a list of what's available that day will help. At least we can connect the dish name to what's behind the glass. I have ordered trays from here too and we were always satisfied: pork menudo, adobong pusit, pansit bihon, bicol express, shanghai, lechon kawali, banana turon and especially sisig. This review is for the grocery section. My wife sent me here to get her some Filipino groceries due to one of her pregnancy cravings. Got several items that probably totaled up to more than $40. No complaints about the selection or pricing... However, the check out was just completely inefficient. There was two cashiers but both of them were working on some money transfer issues that took over 10 mins and counting. Then I was told that I could go to the back of the store to pay instead. Went to the back and asked the lady there if I can check out here. Then she told me to go behind the other two customers who were still browsing the food selections... At this point, being frustrated, I gave up and left. Then proceeded to Phil-Am which was ironically busier/further but much quicker and nicer. Found this place on the TooGoodToGo app. They gave me some steak and chicken stew with some panchit noodles. The portions were actually enough to last me two days! The steak was honestly the best. It was packed full of flavor, juicy, and the meat was just so soft! The sauce was good with the noodles. The chicken stew went great with rice that I cooked myself! When I went to the deli I thought I was in the wrong place as there was a store with lots of Filipino goods in front, but follow the smell to the back and you'll find it! read more

Buffet style Filipino food with lots of options for carnivores, but I won't hold that fact against them. The food here is pretty good, and authentic but there were more than a few occasions when the food wasn't hot (I for one am not very fond of warm meals). There is a lot of oil in the food, especially with the pork adobo, and certain dishes could use more flavor. The prices are inexpensive and is a good option for a quick lunch, dinner or snack. The service here was hit or miss, but the fact that it is always clean makes up for it. Not bad, but certainly not the best. Still Sariling Atin is a great addition to the neighborhood. read more

I grew up 10 minutes from their NJ location and now that I've moved to NYC, you have no idea how happy I am that they opened in Queens! This is definitely my go-to for all my filipino grocery shopping when I'm missing home. I almost always end up getting food when I go here also -- especially the turon! Yes, please. I usually take the M or the R train from the city and it's about a 20-25 minute ride, which isn't bad at all. The Grand-Av Newton stop is about a block or two over from Sariling Atin :) Highly recommend stopping by if you're in (or even if you're not in) the area! Also, the owners are super nice. This is my go to filipino store whenever i feel like craving for filipino cooked food since its near my place.. But today ,I ordered 3 cooked food on the go , one is ground pork with tomato sauce, 1 chicken with tomato sauce and 1pancit .all came in small container . When I came home , I decide to eat the pancit right away since I was hungry.. Then after two hours I opened both two containers and decided ro put on a bowl since the containers are covered with oily food..One of them didnt looked good and the smell wasnt great ..It smells like Spoiled and has bubblles around it .. I knew instantly I had to walk back to the store and show them the food. I am probably 6 blocks away from the store buy I think its worth it to let them know. Upon telling the guy on the cashier area what I didnt feel like eating it since theres bubbles, he told me that its because I didnt open the container right away so thats why theres bubbles on it and so will just refund my money back.He threw the food on on the trash can .I just hope he smelled it.So anyway the other food didnt have bubbles on it. The woman behind the counter was very patient with me and explained what everything was. The goat adobo and chicken stew and bicol express (a spicy pork coconut milk stew) were all incredible.the Bicol express was one of the most memorable dishes I've ever had! The pan it was also great. I love that my neighborhood is chock full of specialty ethnic markets, such as this one. Located right across the street from both the Target shopping center and Queens Center Mall is this market/buffet style restaurant. I was really pleased to see that I could easily get ube ice cream from here as opposed to trekking out to Woodside. Filipino food isn't exactly vegetarian friendly, and the one veggie dish I got ended up having pork in it, but the food certainly looked vegetarian friendly. Number of visits: Many times in the past two years. I haven't experienced consistently good Filipino food at other Filipino restaurants, especially those in Woodside (Little Manila) that are located almost next to each other on the same block. Sariling Atin is probably the closest one to consistently good for me. Their food is great. A friend of mine once told me that he didn't like Sariling Atin because their food is "too rich". Well... that's how I like it! Sweet, salty, savory, spicy; Sariling Atin knows how. My taste buds are always pleased there. My favorites are Bicol Express (4.5 / 5) with its delicious pieces of fat that sit in a creamy and spicy sauce; pork asado (4 / 5) with its own sweet sauce; and a dish whose name I don't know (4.5 / 5), but it looks like pork adobo with pieces of fat, and its sauce sweet as well. Other dishes I enjoy are spaghetti (4.5 / 5) and palabok (4 / 5), which is one of my ultimate favorite Filipino dishes. They offer combo meals that are priced fairly, and portion size is relegated using bowls that are about a cup's size. I realize the food is saucy, and I guess that goes well on the rice that's offered in the combos. The place is a Filipino grocery / restaurant with the former in the front and the latter in the rear. There are about ten tables to sit at, and there could be nowhere to sit during peak hours. I personally haven't had anything to complain about regarding the employees (unlike some people I know). Cleanliness in the dining area is average to above average. The only reason why I'm not giving this place a perfect five is because they don't offer / I have never seen my ultimate favorites: kare-kare and lumpia shanghai. I always order them in other establishments. Still, their versions of other Filipino dishes make me want to eat them! read more

This low key Filipino grocery has a steam table in the back that I've been going to for a few years now. I usually get the 3 dish combo with rice. They have a lot of different dishes to choose from and they rotate the dishes regularly, so there's almost always something new to try. The soups are always fantastic, especially the tinola and any kind of sinigang. The adobos are great. I often get a little container of their sisig to go. Top it off with a decadent turon, if you've still got room. I also like to grab a buko pandan from the grocery on my way out to enjoy at home. read more
