I'm pretty new to fabric arts but excited about all the future projects! SAS had SO much stuff. All kinds of fabrics from fake fur to satiny-y types. And all the bits to fancy things up, sparkly trim and buttons and things like that.n The staff were friendly to me and helpful and I heard them interacting with others in a friendly way. This was the first time I've ever needed to come to a fabric shop in my 31 yrs of life. Not only were they not helpful, but when it came time for me to check out I was told to go to another line, cool but I've never been here before and yall let me wonder for 10 minutes without offering help, so I go to the next line and the first thing this girl tells me is that next time I'm in here only water is allowed. I asked her if this was posted anywhere and she said it was. No where was this posted. Not on the door, not next to the cashier no where. I'm a rule follower, the more rules the better in my opinion. Not only does she bark this order at me, but after I tell her I don't see a sign saying no drinks (I had a sealed bottle of Gatorade on a 84 degree day) she says it's there......spend your money elsewhere. I happily went to Michael's and spend over $80 on fabric, just because they treated me like a human and didn't bark orders at me. I'm sorry you hate your job girlie, but it is not my fault. -10 stars DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU SIMPLY WANT FABRIC FOR A CHEAPER PRICE. There are other places with cheaper prices, but if you don't mind spending the extra dollar. Russ at Michael's at Tempe market place was so available and willing to help me, plus he served as a Marine and National Guardsmen for +21 years. Take your money to a place that will treat you well. Not here. So I tried calling the store to ask if I could speak to a manager, a girl named Becky got on the phone, started telling me not to curse at her (I wasn't cursing) then hung up on me. When I tried to call back i was hung up on again. Then the next time I was met with the same hostility. I tried to call another location to get the owners info, and was told that Becky is in fact in charge of all the locations and is the head of Sas. I used to frequent this store and purchased many materials here over the years. It was my go-to spot for certain items at great prices, especially ribbon during graduation season. However, over the past year, things have noticeably changed. After new policies were introduced, both the prices and the customer service declined. Many items are now priced similarly to larger craft stores, which takes away the value this location once offered. I've also noticed fewer customers during my recent visits, which reflects the overall shift in experience. On my most recent visit, I had a particularly disappointing interaction. One employee initially tried to assist me, but I overheard staff say that I needed to go directly to the counter for help. Even though they were not busy, they just stood there. When I approached the counter, the employee who assisted me displayed a negative attitude throughout the interaction, including eye-rolling and an overall unwelcoming demeanor. I remained polite, but the experience felt unnecessarily uncomfortable. It felt like dealing with an annoyed teenager. Additionally, the store no longer had the materials they typically carry, and I was advised to check another location in Phoenix, which isn't practical if availability is uncertain. Unfortunately, this visit confirmed why I've been coming here less often. It's disappointing to see a once reliable and welcoming store decline in both service and value. After this experience, I will likely choose to shop online or explore other options. Love this place! I have since I was a kid lol Huge selection of basically any fabric. Trims, buttons anything else you would need as well. I personally have always found the customer service to be amazing, all very sweet they ask me about my projects each time. I came in with my son with autistic with autism they told me he can't go in with his bag pack because it's not what he puts in there it's what the other person could put in but he has a obsession with pencils and color, pencils inside his backpack, and they still did not let us go in I was so sad because all what I wanted was to see if I could of just find a fabric for my daughters birthday but I cant leave his bag pack in my car because he would cry the whole day his obsession is his bag pack with full of pencils and color pencils read more

I stopped by SAS to get some tulle for a crazy idea. I love wandering in that store. It has some incredible themed fabrics such as Day of the Dead. Just ask a staff where you might find something, everybody is nice in there. I was directed to the an aisle and found some glittery tulle! You take the fabric to the cutting desk where a staff member will cut the amount you need. I had a funny discussion with a staff member. I also needed some extra wide elastic and asked her where I might find it. She directed me and saw me wandering so she came out and helped me locate it. So nice! Once your fabric is cut, they bag it and put it up at the register for payment. The customer is given a copy of the receipt so the cashier knows which package is yours. Smooth running and organized. They not only have fabrics, they also have buttons, lace, ribbons, sew on decals, elastic, thread, rhinestones, crystals and everything else for your sewing needs. They have their own parking lot. All items are labeled with prices. No guessing. read more

In my 15 years of shopping here, never had a bad experience until today. I pick up some fabric marked with red tags which means 99cents a yard. When getting the fabric cut, manger comes over and starts saying how the fabric is $3.99 a yard. I was confused Ofcourse. The worker even showed the manager that it had multiple red tags. And the manager was so rude and dismissive and just kept repeating "it's not ours" regarding the red tags. I tried to have a conversation with the manager cause I was confused but all she had to say "those tags are not ours". Made me feel like she is insinuating that I'm a thief and adding the color tags on my self. This is terrible business, it's not my fault this fabric was incorrectly marked several times. Worked saw that the fabric was damaged and that's likely why it was marked down but the manger kept being rude and dismissive and refused to sell for the marked priced. Please tell manger to speak to us like we're adults and not children. She needs to use complete sentences and not just keep repeating "they're not ours" with attitude. read more

I've shopped here off and on for many many years. It's fun to hunt through the fabric bolts and rolls and I've usually found fabrics that I liked and paid a great price for them. There's no doubt it's overwhelming for people because it's really just FULL of so much stuff: lace, all types of fabrics, zippers, buttons, ribbons, purse hardware, embroidery patches, batting etc. If you are a fabric artist, it's fun just to check out... I'm sure you'll find at least one thing you'll like if not 5. I will say that it isn't the most friendly place mostly on account that there's about a billion signs telling you what to do and what not to do, so it makes you feel like you're dumb and gonna piss them off. I am absolutely flabbergasted that you can't purchase 1.25 of an item however if there is 1.25 of an item you have to purchase said amount or nothing . I have been coming here over year and half spent hundreds and the customer service of said store was the rudest and coldest I have ever had today makes me rethink locations of shopping. The workers are so rude! I picked up a bolt off the shelf to buy some fabric off of it. As I was walking around the store looking at other fabric, a person working there came up and said, "Give me the fabric. It will be at the front desk." I had no clue why she took it out of my hand. I guess I wasn't supposed to take it off the shelf. I don't know. Well, why have fabric on shelves if we can't buy it. There wasn't any on another shelf. I have NEVER been treated so rudely. I was in shock. My stomach was in knots on the way home because I don't understand why she would search me out in the store and take it. This was the second time I was treated so rudely. The other time I took my quilt out of a grocery bag and put the grocery bag in my purse. I was looking for a coordinating backing. They yelled at me for putting a grocery bag in my purse. It was crazy! Why do they treat people so rudely, I just don't get it. Both times, I didn't talk or had a quiet minimal conversation. I'm just sick about it. read more

I sent the following email to the SAS website's contact form. The fact that they never bothered to respond pretty much says it all about the way this business operates. Shoppers beware. "I just wanted to relate to you that after years of being loyal customers, we will not be coming back. On Friday, I went to the Tempe location with my daughter so she could get some buttons, patches and fabric scraps for a project she's been working on. We went to the counter with her selections and a woman came over and was incredibly rude about telling us we needed to get a ticket and get in line. I'm accustomed to rude behavior in this world, but to have my daughter treated rudely -- a little girl excited about her first sewing projects -- brings out the Pape Bear in me. I was incensed. As I mentioned, we've been shopping at SAS for years, and in all that time there has never been a requirement to go through some kind of procedure to buy a few odds and ends, so I'm guessing this is a new policy. But it isn't exactly a smart one, and it certainly isn't a customer-friendly one. We had to wait for a solid seven minutes behind four other parties who were getting bolts of fabric cut when we could simply have checked out in a couple of minutes and been on our way. Big fabric selection but their customer service is non-existent and is HORRIBLE. I asked for help and one of the ladies just rolled her eyes while the older lady responded with a nasty attitude ' well, what could you possible need help with?' I am not familiar with fabrics and I needed help locating a certain type and all they said was 'well is over there' pointing at a big table with hundreds of rolls. The selection of fabrics and any other sewing equipment you need is enormous and very well priced. I found that the customer service to be very helpful, they always helped me with any questions i had with my projects. Oh my! I made my first trip to this store and was overwhelmed by all the fabric and "gadgets" they had for sale. There was ribbon, thread, lace, vinyl, cottons, fur, buttons, zippers and the list could go on and on. Most of the items for sale were ridiculously cheap. I've visited a lot of fabric and craft stores in the area over the years and have been to this establishment many times. There are some good and some not so good things about SAS. I'd love to rank this 2.5 stars only. First, there are piles and piles of fabric to choose from to be sure. You can wander around for more than an hour and still discover something new each time you turn around. As a new sewist years ago, I was enamored at this place. I felt I could purchase fabric for cheap and totally ruin it as I learned. Fabric can be very costly. There are cotton, knits, upholstery fabric, notions, and embellishments of all kinds here. Most of the fabric is in PILES, some as more than a foot high. If you're looking for something specific, get ready to dig, tug, and get elbow deep in fabric. It's like going on a fabric treasure hunt. Not a bad way to spend time if you enjoy the hunt. I've been crafting and sewing a lot lately and have become familiar with prices of craft items which SAS carries. For example, felt at Joann's on sale can be as low as .25 cents per 9 x 12" piece. At SAS the other day the regular price was .30 cents per 9 x 12" piece. So for me that is not really much of a savings. Next, is their policy on yardage (that's most of the stuff you have to dig through in pile): I spied a nice piece of fleece that I could use and I asked what the minimum cut would be. I was told the smallest cut could be what I wanted, "as long as there were two yards, left." What? That meant that I had to estimate what two yards were and search for a piece that was MORE than two yards so I could get the cut I wanted. Ugh. Now I had to go back and dig some more. Found it though! They offer quilting cotton at over $9.00 a yard and it wasn't the latest and greatest variety I've seen. I feel this is way too much to spend when I can get top quality elsewhere at regular price or use a coupon and get a discount at another store I frequent. For me, the quilting cotton is too costly at this store. Last they sell fabric panels which are easy to sew and good for quick projects. I feel pricing is over what I can get elsewhere with a coupon and save 30%. For me, the savings are not great and I'd rather have a more organized, neat environment to shop for top quality fabric. read more

They sell remnants and some older fabric prints that bigger stores carriy, lace and trims, piping, buttons, chinzy rhinestone tiaras, zippers, and other odds and ends you might need for whatever you're crafting. It's cramped but organized, musky smelling, has no public bathrooms, and is cheap! If you're expecting store clerks to help you with all your needs, you're in the wrong place. You're definitely on your own until you need something cut or rung up. Some items might have stains or other imperfections but that's why they're cheap. Inspect closely, take your time, and for the love of humanity, don't bring your kids here. The clerks are pretty friendly and hilarious as long as you're nice to them. Snooty people get snooty attitudes thrown right back in their faces --- I love it. Happy scavenger hunting! read more

This store is absolutely wonderful. I have lived all over the U.S. and have never seen such a variety of fabrics and textiles at such amazing prices. You really can't beat SAS off Apache Blvd in Tempe. Living in Denver, I find myself making a biennial pilgrimage to SAS to stock up on silks and chiffons. I am so thankful I found this treasure years ago. As far as the staff and the customer service, they are all extremely knowledgeable in what they have in stock and how to use it. I have traveled all over this country and have lived in many different states and I have never found a fabric store that comes close SAS. You can find absolutely any kind of fabric that you are looking for at SAS. In my travels, I have found it very difficult to find reasonably priced chiffon, silk, and organza, especially printed. The beauty of SAS is that there is no fluff about it, SAS is for people who sew and craft and know what they need. They have some of the most beautiful fabrics you will want to find and the prices are out of this world. I am living in Denver now and there is NOTHING here that compares. That being said, I am traveling to Tempe this weekend and will be returning to Denver with a cache of fine fabrics in tow. read more
