Bought my new Janome Skyline here while visiting family in AZ recently. Way better pricing than CA so I couldn't resist. Customer service is friendly and they have plenty of machines to try out. I didn't dare go next door to the see the giant fabric section after buying the sewing machine. Maybe next trip. read more

I called to ask about fixing a sewing machine and the person who took my call was very polite and told me that it's a feee estimate. So I drove over an hour to get to the store to take it in and Ronnie the repair tech told me it would cost 179$ for a tech to look at the machine plus any additional cost of parts. So a classic bait and switch! Do not go there for repairs unless you your fine with a 179$ minimum cost! read more

Had the best experience here!! Was searching for an upgrade to my brother sewing machine for apparel sewing. I had not great experiences at the Phoenix sewing multi-brand store (not Mulqueen or Bernina). I had said I wanted to stay under $1k and had received the most appalled reaction and customer service. Contrast to Mulqueen. Walk in, all the machines are on & ready to play with. I had called to check availability of a few models and chose this location over tempe based on machines on the floor. I brought scraps with me & set to testing but was quickly confused by some of the buttons. A woman appeared right about that time, sat down next to me and walked me through it. Keep in mind this was a $500 machine not $3k or something. She even suggested a less expensive version next to it often used in their classes (Janome) ultimately decided this was too basic & I missed computerized so she walked me to the Juki I requested next & I quickly set to work testing it. This particular model (hzl f600) was over m y budget but I knew the basic functionality was similar to the ones I was considering. Absolutely loved it! Denim, slippery rayon, no issues. She said you know we might have this used. She walked me to the oasis of used/refurb machines. They had every machine I was considering-available used/refurb and under $1k!! I ultimately got the f600 used -could not be happier-and saved enough to buy way more fabric than I need. My only complaint is we need a location in Phoenix or Scottsdale!!!! The gentleman in the refurb area was also super helpful answering questions the woman couldn't (she had long gray hair but didn't catch a name). Well worth the 35 minute drive & seriously only place I will go for machines. read more

This was my first visit to this establishment and I won't be going back for SEVERAL reasons. 1) access to their building is not clear, there is a small building that has "Mulqueen" signage on it it, but that's NOT the fabric store. There is NO signage on the store front, so if you don't know exactly where to turn, you're screwed. You have to go back out on Main to the nearest light at Val Vista, flip a u-turn, go back a block and flip another u-turn. Not consumer friendly access or any signage and potentially dangerous to access with having to do all those u-turns. 2) having been my first time in, when I ask someone who works there if they could match a fabric that I brought in, I was met with almost an insult that I would bring a fabric in to be matched and was told, "We ONLY sell cotton fabric, not what THIS is." Wow....how rude! 3) when I found a cotton fabric close to the color I was trying to match and took it to the cutting counter, the woman who cut the fabric for me ask me for my phone#. Which I thought was kind of a strange way to start a conversation, but I gave it to her and was promptly told, "Oh, your NOT in our system." I said, "No, this is my first time in." I think this is what we could call a "training opportunity" for the snooty old ladies who work there, perhaps you could ASK first if I have ever been in or if this is my first time in or anything but demanding my ph#. I can find exactly what I need at Hobby Lobby and I guess if you don't care about losing customers in the ROBUST economy we are in, go ahead and keep treating your customers so rudely! Recently attended a Brothers sewing machine class. The instructor, Kathy, was very knowledgeable of the machine. Though there were multiple models brought to the class, she was able to explain all of the "bells & whistles" of each machine. I was hesitant at first, having used my machine for about a year; but still learned a few new things using my machine. Highly recommend the class for beginner or intermediate. It was fun and well worth the time. read more

DO NOT get your machine serviced here! I brought in an old Viking that needed repair and was told that the insides needed to be completely replaced except the motor. The charge was $500. I was thrilled because I love that machine and they actually had the parts for it. I got it back and for a while, it worked but then something fell from inside the machine and it stopped working so I went back and was informed that "this is what happens when you force the cartridge into it's opening." Well, I hadn't used a cartridge in years and told the repair man so. "It doesn't work without a cartridge," he said...and I have been using it without a cartridge for decades! He then looked up the repair job that he had already done and come to find out, he only replaced a few of the parts! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it," he said. I could not believe it. Had I known he was only going to replace what he did I never would have had him fix it in the first place! Then, he wanted to charge me another $300 to fix what was broken. read more

For absolutely the worst customer service, try calling Mulqueen. I am trying to line up parts for a project I'll be doing when I visit my parents in the area and they could not help me, even when I explained that I am calling from the other side of the world because they don't have enough staff in the store. I called previously regarding a service question and was similarly shoved off -- the person did not know the answer and recommended that I call during the week. No matter how attractive the prices, if I cannot get assistance, the products are of no use to me. read more

A HUGE thank you to the owner Darren for his Act of Human Kindness that made my day. ONE STAR to the repair guy who was beyond rude and surly. He needs a new line of work where treating people with respect doesn't matter. A friend of mine gave me a brand new Singer that she never used. It has been at least 50 yrs since I tried using one. My goal was to make king pillow cases into standard size- seemed reasonable and duable. The 2nd pillow case underway and i lost the bobbin thread-- so I read the manual and took out the bobbin winder holder trying to find the bobbin and it didn't go back in right and snapped off the needle. Dauntless and full of hope I found Mulqueen in the Yelp and was told to come on over- they would be happy to look at it for me. The repair guy grabbed my portable and gave me back parts they didn't need and started getting my info and told me it was $159.00 and 10 days and he had no time or interest in my questions. I told him that it might just be a simple fix and not need a total repair if he could just look. His eyes rolled and said he didn't have time to do that and it would be 10 days. I told him that I thought it was just the bobbin holder that I took out trying to find the missing bobbin- he told me with disdain that I shouldn't have touched the bobbin part. I said- that is pretty obvious now but maybe it isn't a huge repair if he wanted to note that on the repair form. He said it didn't matter that every machine was taken apart and put back together. He was clearly fed up with me especially when I asked if when it was done could someone show me how to drop the bobbin in so I don't do it again. He said- exasperated- YOU JUST DROP IT IN- YOU DON"T TOUCH THE BOBBIN PART- and THEY DON'T GIVE SEWING LESSONS AND THEY DON'T HANDLE SINGER BRAND! I said I don't want a lesson- I just want 5 minutes for someone to show me where the bobbin goes so I don't break it again. He said if the technician had time, they might show me. I said you know- I have cancer and am just trying to fix my pillow cases and your anger isn't helpful. He said full of disdain that he wasn't angry- just trying to explain something he clearly thought I was too stupid to get. I thought about it and told him to give me back my machine and on my way out- I tried to ask one more time if anyone could really help and another employee pointed me to the owner Darren. IT WAS LIKE A DIFFERENT WORLD/EXPERIENCE. I told him I was trying to something I had some control over and fix pillow cases. I said I am happy to pay and what I needed. He said that won't take long at all and he was so understanding and brought me and my machine to his backroom. Without judgment he told me that JoAnn's gave me the wrong size needles and bobbins- He got them for me and checked the bobbin holder and sure enough- it was damaged but he said he was sure they had one and he got one for me and showed me where it was bent. He dropped in the new part. He also said I had the wrong kind of thread and needed sewing machine thread. He got some for me and filled a new bobbin and showed me how to do it and how to drop it in the bobbin holder, he threaded the new needle, He tested the machine and it worked perfectly. He showed me how to get the simple stiches for my pillow cases and how to change the stiches if I wanted a different one (the machine has 75 options) - I just needed to know 2 of them, he smiled and recommended the main one and a couple of options. It took about 20 minutes. I offered to pay the $159- but he said it wasn't a problem- to just pay for the part, bobbins, thread and needles. He even carried my portable out to my car. He wished me the best and let me give him a hug. It made my day and I can't say enough of how much his act of kindness meant to me. AND I got home and thanks to Darren- I made 6 pillowcases from King to Standard. It was a good day. read more

I have been going to Mulqueen's for almost 20 years. They are a family owned and operated business who service their customers like only a family does. They are always so helpful, no matter who you ask in the store, whether it is an employee or an owner. They have been servicing all my machines for the past 20 years also. I take them in once a year to be serviced and they never try to tell me there is something wrong just to make money. They are as honest as they come. I can't tell me how many times I have been in the store to get some help with a project and they not only help me, but give me suggestions on ways to save money. I would never think of going anyplace else for my supplies or the service of my machines. read more

Took my Singer machine in & explained the issue I was having. After waiting the 2 weeks I was told it would take to be repaired, paid the hefty $159. Unfortunately, same issue - took it back -- rudely told me the thread I was using was cheap! I replied that same thread worked & machine sewed fine before it was 'repaired' by them. Technician told me (after several attempts) the timing had to be adjusted. EXACTLY the problem I identified when I brought the machine initially. As I was leaving I questioned why it wasn't fixed properly the first time -- the response was that in trying to correct the issue the second time, the timing could have been upset. NEVERMIND the 2 or 3 other problems the new technician identified & corrected while I waited the hour in the store. I realize this place is fine if you are in the group of 'chosen' who have thousand dollar embroidery machines & needed supplies, but these ladies cannot deal with any other situations that could point the finger toward a technician who may have messed up. They are quick to criticize & happy to sell their items without cause - regardless of the absence of customer service. read more

I called to see if they carried a machine I wanted and a very helpful woman gave me a lot of information. I drove out that afternoon and Siabhon was there and she walked me through a few machines and their pros and cons. She didn't push me to any just gave me sound ideas. I ended up getting one that I absolutely love!!! I don't want to sew without the features it has. The time she took made all the difference. I also will be back for the huge selection of items, fabric and services they offer. There is plenty of parking and lots of helpful people. There were several people shopping while I was there as well. read more

The one star is for the organization of the store and supplies they have in stock on hand. DO NOT order anything online you will NOT receive the items or the membership discount they promise of 20%. The customer service is awful. When I called to inquire about the discount the employees were rude and short. When visiting, no one spoke as I entered the store or asked if I needed assistance after looking around for at least 20 minutes. When I asked for assistance the employee acted as though I bothered them. When checking out, the older lady at the register seemed to be kind, knowledgeable, and provided good service. I thought it was strange that she mentioned twice that it was a good store as if she were patching up the horrible experience. read more

My Brother PRS100 had a jam & the timing was way off. I found Mulqueens Mesa which is 245 miles away from Lake Havasu & reviewed them. Decided to drive the distance & leave machine for repair. When I got it back it worked extremely well & I feel it works better than it did 2 1/2 years ago when new. The staff & service is better than any store I have visited. I also have a Brother PR1X & when it needs work I am definitely going to return. These folks are great !!! read more

Went back to this place, and I'm happy to say that they are great people and great to work with the staff is always friendly to my family and I every time we walk in and they always remember who we are. I was having issues with my Machine I had purchased but they made it right and were really helpful. The owner talked to me and walked me through all my options, the staff was helpful and the repair man was also very helpful . The thing I love best is their locally owned. VERY UNFRIENDLY. I went in with my Covid mask and was promptly yelled at for not using the hand sanitizer! That was the only acknowledgment I received the whole time I was there. There were plenty of employees around too. I looked for fabric, eight dollars per yard! Ouch! They don't carry a lot of sewing supplies here that I could tell. (maybe if one of the employees would've acknowledged me instead of talking amongst themselves they could've shown me where there was more) I guess if you're a quilter, and part of the clique, you may like this store. read more

ORIG POST: Paid for them to service my machine which wasn't backstitching properly. They never answered the phone. Had to go down there juat to get info on service process. Store is TOTAL CHOAS. No one is able to help adequately. I complained to manager who was apathetic about it. I dropped off my machine later same day. They forgot they had it. I had to comr back a week later for pick up. Paid $100 for service to find out the machine is still backstitching wrong. Go anywhere else but here. No point in calling to complain. No wonder they never answer their phones. 10/17 Update per Manager Response: Being that management was so apathetic about my machine being forgotten I expect the expansion of the family owned business to be just as dysfunctional; if not doubly so. Using an excuse as "busy" to justify poor service is laughable. Cathy's Vac n Sew in Tucson fixed what Mulqueens failed to do. I reccomend everyone to Cathy's and warn everyone about your family owned business's gross incompetance. read more

Took 2 machines to be fixed , one broken again after a few uses, called to store to ask for owner but he never seems to be there, went to a different location was told to go the main store . I don't have a lot of opportunity to call or go to store , tried again this week , still no luck . And the man that is in the repair area was so rude. We winter in Arizona and this seemed the perfect place to check out. It was loaded with crafty ideas plus had a great supply of sewing machines, embroidery machines, parts, tools and fabric. I ended up purchasing a new embroidery machine from them last spring. The sales person was amazing with the information she provided. A class was offered to get to know the machine. I wasn't too impressed with that class. The sales person was better. There were about 8 others with many types of machines in the class. Some folks were experienced with embroidery and others hadn't even looked at the machine. It was really a waste of time. I was having a little trouble with the machine almost 12 months later so took it in for servicing. I was surprised to hear that expected return time was about 5 weeks! Wow! However, this is Arizona and this is winter time so the snowbirds are all out. I paid an expedite fee and had a call the next day my machine was return. Now that's really fast service! I love this place and am thinking even about upgrading my wonderful embroidery machine while here to one that has even more bells and whistles. read more

I first came to Mulqueens over ten years ago when we first moved to Chandler. My husband drove me to Mulqueens and stayed in the car while I checked out this store. I was overwhelmed by all of the fabric and supplies they had. And they had sewing machines and friendly people. I was so overwhelmed that I didn't know what i wanted to buy; so I just went back to the car empty handed. When I got back in the car, my husband said, "Do I need to go home and get the truck?" Since then I have purchased a Disney embrodery machine on sale, a vacuum cleaner, had my sewing machines repaired there, attended classes, won a writing contest, bought fabric, of course, and anything I have needed to make my quilting heart sing. We only needed the truck one time. I love shopping at Mulqueens, and they take good care of me. Bring your truck over the first time you shop there. Introduce yourself to the owner, Ken Mulqueen. This place doesn't deserve the low Yelp rating it has. It's been solid for more than a decade! Bought my first sewing machine from them in sixth grade and I have been a customer ever since. I've bought four machines and had service on each of them as often as needed. The service department is fast and reliable. Only one time did the servicer at their Tempe location make a mistake and this location fixed it for me. read more

Fantastic customer service. Darren Mulqueen is amazingly gifted with solutioning problems with any products and/or sewing machines.

I have a new Singer Quintet that is still under the 1 year warranty. I'm in California and the closest Singer warranty repair center is Mulqueen Sewing Center on 3716 E. Main street in Mesa AZ. I had my machine professionally packed with bubble wrap and packing peanuts in a new box. I was having trouble with the thread breaking during Embroidery. What I got back was shocking! Upon opening the box I noticed leaves, trash and cigarette butts packed with my machine. My beautiful new machine!!!! There is damage to the machine and the original problem was not fixed. No sample of embroidery with the machine so I'm pretty sure they didn't try it out. I called Mulqueen and talked to the owner. Not much of a response from him. He kept telling me he didn't work on this machine. OK, but one of YOUR employees did. I asked how trash and yard debris got in my box with my machine. He said they keep the customers boxes outside, really? I guess they double as trash cans until your machine is worked on. I am thankful there was not a critter waiting for me in the box. Looks like my box sat out in the elements for weeks and then they used it along with some used dirty packing material to send my machine back to me. The owner said I could send it back and have then work on it again. I declined. I am now dealing with Singer Corp. Headquarters. I'm hoping they can resolve this matter and maybe look more closely at who they contract with to repair their machines. This is unacceptable. I also posted a warning to my fellow sewers on a sewing facebook page I belong to. Over 35,000 members that had a lot to say. I would seriously consider finding another repair shop. read more
