It was really difficult to find in the big box stores, like Costco, Wholefoods, Trader Joe's, or Safeway, so my husband suggested Fleur de Lis, a small business near our home in Mountain View. He said he had great experience in the past and the owner was very nice. Steven was attentive and patient and listened to what I was trying to describe, which was not easy on the phone. I also asked him to make some suggestions. Even though he said he rarely works with lilies in his arrangement (because a lot of people are allergic to them), he was still willing to put together what I wanted for my daughter. After about half an hour on the phone with him, he seemed to know exactly what I wanted and what he was going to do. Pickup was on the day after, but the next day, I was a bit nervous and anxious about how everything turned out and thought if there is the slightest chance that it didn't come out right, I still had time to get something off the shelf even if it wasn't ideal. I reached out to Steven and he sent me a picture. The bouquet looked so elegant! I only asked him to make a slight change and he immediately accommodated. I could tell she went above and beyond to add extra florals beyond retail value so I ended up asking if I could pay a little extra. She hesitantly accepted an extra $5. Interactions like these remind me why it's important to shop locally and support our small businesses. There are a million online floral vendors, but seeing all the love she put into this gift for my friend who is going through a tough time made my day. My friend loved the florals as well. This was a great intro from a seasoned professional and a nice entry into Korean style floral arrangements which I'm not familiar with at all. If you're someone who like more structure/instruction such as my friend - it might not be the best class for you however in situations like that, my tip is to advocate for yourself, ask more questions OR take more private class and explain to the instructor how you like to learn. The instructor pointed out that certain flowers hold more flowers and certain flowers must be handled differently whether it be how it's cut, etc. I enjoyed this class. We made a floral basket (which the instructor said is really popular - there is one other option (just make a note of it if you don't want to do a floral basket). Gave them to my man and he loves them; it's been two weeks and some of the flowers are still blooming/fresh. (You're suppose to water the specific arrangement it every 2 days.. we only did that once or twice..) - going strong!
