The Saturday morning of my son's wedding; I had an appointment with another salon. They called me to reschedule to another day because the owner/only stylist in the salon was ill and could not do my hair. By the time he gave me alternative salons, I found the Sassoon salon and they were able to accommodate me that same day. They saved me! The Stylist was awesome and I got compliments on my hair that day. The best thing was that it was connected to the hotel I was staying at, and I did not even have to walk outside to access the salon. I called for an appointment for a blowdry and asked if the stylist is comfortable with extention's & they said yes. I checked on who i was booked with through the website and saw it was an assistant i called back and asked if she is experienced enough to give me my result they said i'm in good hands. I arrive to my appointment and they make me sign a waiver before which is confusing to me and makes me question if the stylist knows how to blowdry or not. My appointment was at 2:30 i left the salon 4:05, a long time for a blowdry appointment and i was not satisfied with my result. I asked for a volume blowout and my hair is just straight. $80 for a blowdry i could've done myself by straightening my own hair, i would not recommend this place for any type of styling. They should not put their assistants on the floor if they don't know how to do a blowout. read more

I have a stylist I see on a regular basis, but was in McLean for work and decided to get my hair cut. Here's the history...the best bob haircut I've ever had was cut by a Vidal Sassoon-trained stylist. It was such a precise haircut I found it stylish and easy to maintain. I wanted to see if the same quality haircut is possible, and it most definitely is. I called on the spur of the moment and requested an appointment the night I was in McLean, and they had availability with the Salon Director, Yoshiko. I explained that I have fine hair and wanted someone who could cut a great bob. The reception gave me two choices and I selected Yoshiko. She was all business, but I didn't mind because my hair was perfect. First the decor. The salon is huge and I find it interesting that there were so many empty chairs. To be fair, it was a Tuesday night and the place isn't cheap. I believe you get what you pay for most of the time, and usually I opt for the most recommended option, even if it is pricey, but not everyone thinks that way. Back to the haircut. I was offered coffee, tea, water when I walked in. I had coffee, which sounded great since I had just had a big meal at Wildfire. Another person brought me over to Yoshiko, who was finishing up a cut. We talked about what I wanted and then a shampooer came over to get me. Hair freshly washed, I returned to Yoshiko's chair and she confirmed what I wanted. 30 minutes later, I had a beautiful, well-cut style. I was impressed by how often she went back through my hair and made adjustments. When I got back to my hotel room, I checked out the cut even more and it was perfect. I feel like when you have a great cut you can let your hair grow for a longer period because it keeps its shape. I'm really happy with the cut I have and will most definitely come back to maintain it. I'd also like to try their colorist, so perhaps that will be my next splurge. Don't hesitate to go here, but definitely have an idea of what you want and then listen to the advice of the stylist. Very disappointing, I made an appointment while I was staying at the Ritz Carlton Hotel attached to the mall where the salon is located. I had a special event that evening, I made the appointment for first available appointment ( I did not request a specific stylist) my appointment was for 3:00. I arrived 10 minutes earlier than my appointment. I was told that a stylist was picked for me. However, the said stylist was not available / still working on a client. I was told that she will be available shortly. I waited around 15 minutes I let the front desk know that I have an engagement after this I can not be late for, I understand that the service I requested will take one hour. I asked if I could get a different stylist, I was told that the specific stylist they chose for me will be done shortly. She was now more than 15 minutes late. I asked to speak with a manager/ supervisor I was told one was not available however they will make sure a manager contacts me. I had to leave I did not receive the service I had made an appointment for. This was last Thursday as of today, Sunday I have not received a call from the salon. This salon is very unprofessional, and unorganized. very disappointing. read more

It's scary for an Asian to trust a non-Asian with their hair. Fellow yellows, you know what I'm talking about. But since it was for a good cause, I put on a brave face and said, "Go crazy. Do what you want. It'll grow back." A few questions on how my bangs tended to fall and part, and we were off on a two-day project. Thanks to Gia and Nathan for snipping my locks with care, looking closely to see how it fell around my ears. It was terrifyingly short-- hadn't had it that short since I was an INFANT-- but I loved the layers and creativity. Just as many thanks to Jade for the edgy coloring job, even if it needed two tries to properly shade my easily influenced hair. (Still waiting on the promised portfolio shots, but whatevs.) Plus their contract with Megan Brown for makeup was nice. Kudos to the other employees who were equally friendly, gave nice shampoo jobs, and stopped sweeping up hair to admire the work with reassuring enthuasiasm. I had a love/hate relationship with my 'do for the following month, but my friends are all either super accepting or fantastic liars, and I settled on loving the bizarreness of it. I ended up trimming the longer strands to be more interview-presentable, but other than that it's been fine. The color washed out from purple to red to pink to orange to base blonde, all colors I was happy with, and I've been passing it off as an old highlight job since. The length has stayed pretty chic, hugging my jawline on the sides as it grows out and can be blown into a flipout in the back. The bangs naturally grew into my usual sideswept fringe with hardly any modification maintenance needed on my part. I'd definitely recommend the services of all four people who worked on my hair this go. read more

We all know that a good stylist makes a difference in the way we feel, but let me tell you about a GREAT stylist! I was new to this salon and chose Robert to cut my hair. He is considered a "master stylist" and has worked with Sassoon Salon for nearly 40 years (he even met Vidal, himself). This man has incredible experience. From the onset I felt his warmth; he has a great personality, very welcoming and upbeat. I sat down in Robert's chair and he asked what my vision was for my hair. This consultation was extensive, he wanted to make sure that we were on the same page. He then explained how the salon's process works: my hair would be washed (I swear that the shampoo gal, Siobhan, had magic hands), cut, blown dry and finally my cut would be refined. Interestingly, Sassoon Salon is known for their "precision haircuts"; I later discovered that Sassoon cutting is coined the "Harvard" of precision design. Yup! I was excited to see what he could do to save my hair from the last debacle at another salon, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Robert's technical skills, engaging personality, and the final outcome made my heart sing. Robert is an artist, this was the best haircut that I've ever had. People have actually stopped me on the street to ask where I get my hair done. Thank you, Robert, I'm over-the-top happy with my hair! read more

I am very disappointed with the outcome of my hair appointment with Cristina. I asked her to even out my hair - having the same length in the front and back but ended up with short back and longer front. On top of it, the shape of the hair cut is terrible after I washed and styled my hair, you could really see it. I think this is the worst hair cut I have ever had and now when there is no length has left, I can do nothing about it - just wait until it grows. It is very disappointing taking into consideration the high price and tipping. Never again! read more

I was a client for the last 2 years. One timeI had to cancel my appointment and I was informed that I had to pay half of the service because it was under 24h. Of course I have never been informed about it before. Because I denied to pay they demand my credit card to be placed on file in order to be able to make any future appointments. I find this policy insulting, disrespectful and borderline legal. I expect better customer service and trust from a high end salon. I have been going to Sassoon regularly since the 1990s and have always been very pleased with their work. Everyone there has always been very courteous and I love my hairdresser, Olive, who is the reason that I would drive the 145 mile round trip to the Tysons location. Last time I was there though I noticed that they tacked on an extra $6 charge for pandemic supplies. As though they couldn't afford to buy their own masks! It's not like they hand you one when you walk in the door. Really Sassoon? You really need that extra $6? The little shops don't charge for these supplies; it's not our fault there's a virus going around. I think that's gouging. read more

This is my 3rd time in a Sassoon Salon, the last time it was in NYC several years ago. This is one thing my sister taught me never to skimp on because what you get is what you pay for. I learned from her that great salons DO NOT USE blades because it ruins hair and they don't use them here. The stylist here must go school regularly which means they are always keep up with current styles and trends. I went to this Salon today and Irene shampooed and massaged my head a little bit, which I liked. Master stylist Robert cut my hair the way I wanted it. He is down to earth and very friendly. So, I forgot to update this review. Both the Creative Director and Dusan had me come in for a re-do... They both took a look at my hair and reviewed the potential options. Obviously, the best option to reduce the visible variance of lengths would be to chop it about 6 to 8 inches...I had anticipated that this would be the case. But understanding that I wanted to maintain the length as much as possible, Dusan advised that he could smooth out the chunks first and then try to minimize the trimming to about 4-6 inches. He parted my hair down the middle of my head, and he trimmed out the uneven lengths. He let me see my hair dried without styling product and straightening, and I was very happy to see that my hair fell naturally even. Overall, I was very happy with re-do, and I will probably continue to see Dusan in the future. * I would give Dusan 4 stars, but I overall ranking for Sassoon is 3 stars for the poor skill of the initial cut and the uncomfortable shampoo job this second time (a very weird massage given by a buff dude). Also, receptionist service has not improved. read more

I have to shout out Geraldine and Olive at Sassoon Salon. I'm sure they do not remember, but Olive literally gave me the best haircut of my life maybe 10 years ago (or more) and Geraldine did my color. Both gave me a cool edgy hairstyle that was great for my former life as a makeup artist. I had moved out of the area for many many years and had not had luck finding anyone to do my hair anywhere. Now I'm back in the DC area and I'm a lawyer. I obviously cannot play as much as I used to with hair, but I returned to them for a much needed revamp of my hair. I had tried a very expensive and now closed salon last year and was left with a very damaged length of balayage and frayed layers. I asked for a return to my natural (but better) hair color and a healthy more volumized cut. My hair hasn't looked this healthy since I was in my 20s! In one go, both Olive and Geraldine transformed my hair from blah to super shiny, healthy, hair. Is this place expensive? Yes. It's not however, the most expensive salon visit I have ever had. That prize goes to the previously mentioned salon that is now closed. But I really think in this case you get what you pay for. Olive is a master with scissors and blowout, and the first time she cut my hair I didn't have a split end for over a year! Geraldine is great with color and got it right the first time, plus she is super fun to talk to. I will definitely be back again. PS. Their covid procedures were really great. I felt very safe and not worried at all that I would get anything while there because all the stylists have face masks and shields, the clients all have masks, and they have everything super clean and spaced out. read more

I just got my hair done by Arahm Kim. She did an amazing job on my haircut and I just love it!!! My hair was long and damaged, but after getting my hair done, it now looks wonderful and stylish. $125 For a cut with a Senior Stylist??? NEVER AGAIN! My beautiful wife who has long straight hair went in for a cut. She only requested TWO things from the stylist. That it not be a style that requires much time to fix in the morning because we have a 5 month old baby, and not to cut the bangs too short. Not sure what this "Senior Stylist" heard but she did EVERYTHING contrary to what my wife wanted. I won't even get into what the back of the cut looked like, but lets just say that she made it look like feathered layers. This is a young and beautiful girl and I'm not sure why she gave her that kind of hairstyle. I called the salon and explained the situation. The owner called us back and offered my wife to come back in and have it fixed. Question: How in the world do you "fix" a cut that is already short? RIGHT!!! You go SHORTER! And that is not what my wife wants. How does a "Senior Stylist" with years of experience botch a very simple cut? I'm at a loss and not happy that my wife doesn't feel beautiful. I think my wife is gorgeous even if she had no hair, but I'm not the one who has to live with that cut. I'm not saying that every stylist there is bad, but this "Senior Stylist" gave a cut that was SO off the mark from what my wife clearly and simply explained. The least Vidal Sasoon could have done was offer a refund. They have yet to do that. read more

My mom and I used to get a hair done by Nathan for more than 2 years until he moved to California so I switched to Arahm. I was little worried and nervous at first but I absolutely fell in love with her. I get compliments all the time from others!! She always has the good vibes and she is so professional. If I could give this place zero stars I would. It's a complete disaster. I have to say, I only decided to give this place a try since it's near the office and I didn't want to have to drive all the way to dupont to see my usual colorist...BIG MISTAKE! The lady who colored my hair dyed it from the beautiful chocolate brown it had become to completely black. My hair is already dark and she just did not know how to maintain the bright effect of my brown hair so she died it jet black :(. Keeps getting worse...in an effort to "fix" the color, she talked me into getting highlights so she proceeded to bleach my already over processed hair. To top it all off, they made me pay $50 to a "blowdry" which consisted of an amateaur 15 year old just rough drying my already dead hair. After I washed it and tried to flat iron it myself at home, I realized the ends were so damaged from the bleach that my hair was breaking off. Needless to say, I headed right back to my regular stylist in Dupont and he had to cut off about 6 inches to get rid of the damage they had done. If this place was really cheap or a discounted hair salon, I would have expected this to happen. I threw $300 in the garbage..not including the money I spent getting my hair back to normal. read more

To begin with, the person who washed my hair, gave me a full shower, when she finished, I was totally wet from head to toe, to the point that I had to put on a gown, for someone else to put my clothes in the dryer, and then, when I thought that the worst had already passed. I was looking to cut my hair, because I wanted to see myself as presentable as possible, for the graduation of my son, and I decided to go to Vidal Sassoon, because I assumed that a salon like that with an excellent reputation, and for the price they charge, $ 140.00 would be a perfect cut. Let me tell you , it has been the worst experience I have had in life, If I were able to leave fewer than one star, I would do so.my hair was cut by Robert this stylist did not care about my opinion, nor the portrait, which showed him how I wanted my cut, he damages my hair, totally, to the point that I have to wait  long time, to be able to cut my hair again. read more

0 stars for the terrible customer service here. I have been getting my haircuts here for 10 years! But today, 3 ladies at the front desk - CHRISTINA especially - were very rude as I was paying. They refused to honor a coupon I had received through email. They went so far as to suggest that I was trying to use another customer's coupon!! It was TERRIBLY INSULTING - they called the manager, who also did not understand / fix the situation. I have never been through this much trouble to use a simple coupon THEY emailed me. The whole front desk - 3-4 people!! - ganged up on me, aggressively questioning the coupon, insulting me for presenting it on phone. Even though I had called ahead and verified the coupon before I made the appointment. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER. DO NOT send coupons if you do not wish to honor them!!!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this salon to anyone else, unless you wish to be INSULTED AND HUMILIATED after your haircut. Haircuts at Vidal are supposed to make people feel fabulous - not insulted. So I used to date a princess. The kind of princess that would plan where we would eat our 3 meals that day before I even had a chance to roll out of bed. HINT: it wasn't the dining room. tldr; - it didn't work out. BUT...she did leave me with one great revelation: scissor only haircuts! Master Stylist Robert has been cutting my hair for 15 years. I can't imagine going anywhere else. He is meticulous and has amazing attention to detail. I get separation anxiety thinking about that job offer which requires relo to the west coast. Will I find another Robert? Pass. And even though I have...ahem...less hair than before, Robert's primary goal is to make you look (and feel) good. Forget implants and snake oil (I'm looking at you Rogaine), go see Robert and let him go to work. You won't be disappointed. read more

Vidal Sassoon Salon is wonderful. What is really more wonderful about this place is my hair dresser Allison. If you need a haircut I highly recommend going to see Allison. She is also the Creative Director at this location. This place is pricey, but you really get what you pay for. Haircuts with Allison cost $115, but worth every penny. The Salon: Upon entering the salon. Reception is front and center. Shampoos, and items for purchase are on the wall next to reception area. Left side of the store is where all the hair cuts take place. Right side is where the coloring takes place. Back of he store is where all the hair washing is done and there are large bathrooms as well. The salon is kept very clean, there are always people sweeping hair up during and after the cuts. Since the entire store walls is made of clear glass, they are very good at keeping the store appearance clean and looking great. At Vidal Sassoon, each stylist only does color or cut. They do not mix what you can do, which I think is great, because it helps the stylist focus. The Experience: Check in. Put on a black vinyl cape. You are asked if you would like coffee or tea. Their green tea is very good. They use the best green tea leaves and tastes wonderful while you relax and get your hair cut. You are seated at the stylist chair and have an initial consult. Then you are whisked away to the hair washing area where you relax while they wash your hair and massage your scalp. You're then taken back to your hair dresser for the cut. The way they cut hair at this salon is with a layering technique. I can't remember the technical name ( I think it's texturizing, or texturing) but basically, they cut it in such a way where all the pieces of hair lay perfectly in place, and there is no bulkiness. So first the stylist cuts your hair wet. Then blow dry, and flat iron. Your hair is cut again in a dry and flat state. In just a little while it looks amazing! I have very thick asian hair , a lot of hair in fact, and they some how always manage to cut it in a way where it looks beautiful and normal....and lays in place! So after you see your hair all beautiful, shiny, and bouncy, they take you to the bathroom where you an remove your cape where you are given a white towel and sticky lint brush in case you want to get some hair off your clothes. I have never needed to do this. I wear my clothes under the cape and hair never gets on my clothes but it is a nice to have i think. After your cut, you can pick up some products on your way out or just head straight to checkout. Tip can be added to your card if you do not have cash which is very convenient. You've never had a great haircut until you go to see Allison. Hurry! Go now! She's amazing! Discount: For new customers, after your first haircut, your second haircut/color is discounted 20% off which is nice! For hair colors: I recommend Alvina. She is in charge of all the colorists and I think she does a great job with my highlights! For Men: I recommend going to the Grooming Lounge, on the top floor of Tysons Galleria II. I just got back from my haircut, and feel Amazing. My hair was getting heavy. You know that stage, where your life gets so busy, your hair is dying for a cut? It was like a reflection of how I felt inside, where there's just no time to take care of myself! ENTER: Gia. Well, upon walking in and getting an awesome herbal tea.... I felt the therapy begin. Gia and I talked through what was going on in life and I mentioned my life is consumed by this big professional presentation I'm preparing for, and immediately, she began her ideas and we switched my hair up! She knew I was doing an academic thing, so she steered away from the sweeping bang fringe, and we went with a natural frame and short layers (since I didn't want to look kid-like or too glamorous-like.) It was amazingly tranformative where I walked in feeling drabby, and walked out feeling really confident and professional. The way our hair looks is like a role you play in life, and it's amazing how she was able to communicate a very professional haircut, through hair. (This was a totally different haircut from my wedding hair that Gia also did, which was absolutely gorgeous and glamourous. The person who styled my wedding hair even said, "Wow, who cut your bangs? They did a really good job") And no matter the length, from long hair to a medium short, GIA and Vidal Sassoon still preserves one of the best areas they know - the science to get hair to flow and move to your natural movement. Yes, I am a fan. I've been coming to Vidal Sassoon in the Galleria since I was 17...and have never been anywhere else. I guess I am just very particular with who I trust with my unruly hair. I was born with very thick hair and A LOT of it; thanks Mom. I've tried different salons before but none has hit the spot the way Sassoon has. Right now, Stanley is my hero. He's a freakin genuis! He trained and lived in LA and is known as the texture master. He takes his time and takes pride in his craft--and that is why I trust him so very much. The service here is great and very unpretentious but you still feel like you're coming into something special. (Honestly, the 4 stars is because of Stanley. I went to Vidal Sasson for one-process color and cut. My colorist asked me what I wanted and while she put the right color on my hair, she let me sit for too long under the heat lamp (that kept hitting my head because it was broken) and/or set the timer wrong that my hair turned out to be overprocessed. Then the shampoo girl shampooed my hair only once. As a result, my hair looked dirty and lifeless. After this I was passed on to Dusan (the hair stylist), who basically spent 10 minutes replicating the cut I had before and then another 5 minutes blowdrying my hair with a paddle brush (and painfully pulling it in the process). No styling whatsoever. In the end, I looked like I just had a color and cut at Hair Cuttery. So now three weeks later, my color looks awful and my haircut looks even worse. It takes a lot of effort to make it look more or less presentable in the morning. Therefore, this whole experience at Sasson was a total waste of time and money. If you are very peculiar about your hair, I would not bother going there. I will be going back to my old salon (Christophe in DC) to fix this mess. read more

Went to Geraldine for an ombre. When I called to make the appointment the receptionist kept emphasizing over and over again that an ombre was $280. I kept having to tell her that was fine. It sounded like she was almost discouraging me from it. Should have been a red flag. When I arrived she asked what I wanted done to my hair and I explained in detail about how I wanted the classic ombre. She then told me she was going to do the ombre in a different style but I would achieve the same results. She then started putting foils in my hair... giving me highlights but not highlighting the very lop layer of hair (at the part). I didn't want to question her method (I'm no hairstylist) so I confirmed she was doing an ombre and let her continue. I came out with full blown partial HIGHLIGHTS. I never let the word "highlight" escape during my entire consultation - where she got the idea this was okay I don't know. The girl who was cutting my hair even joked calling the color a "combre" because it was "very subtle" - yea subtle in the sense that it didn't exist. It was freaking highlights. I clearly said I wanted an ombre. I had highlights all the way to the roots. Absolutely terrible. What do you even DO at that point?? She totally ruined my hair. When I checked out to pay she had written down to charge me for a partial foil for $100. If she had done what I had asked she would have much substantially more. I appreciate that she didn't try to pull a fast one and still charge me for one but if she wasn't planning on doing an ombre she probably should have TOLD ME. I understand an ombre can be time consuming but that's why I showed up and was willing to pay you $280 to do it. If she wasn't willing she shouldn't have taken the appointment. I ended up having to get it fixed elsewhere. Total disaster. If your salon doesn't feel like doing an ombre - just say so. Don't ruin my hair and leave me stuck with it. read more

Also, VS has an interesting way of separating the stylist & colorist worlds. Nicole, my cute and friendly colorist is a genius! She did the color for my wedding and I received so many compliments! All I have to say is Olive...she is the most fantastic stylist ever. I have been going to her for over 8 years now, and i can count on her being consistent, friendly and on-time. I have had every possible style from 3 inches of hair to hair that goes all the way to the middle of my back. No matter what the length, I always walk out looking my best. Olive also knows that I am very low maintenance...meaning I don't wake up everyday and spend an hour primping my hair...so her cuts have to look good with minimal prep. I used to go to the Vidal back in San Francisco, because the 2 stylists I had there were A - MAZING! Although they were very pricey, since they were the top stylists I couldn't give them up. I had tried other salons in the area and was VERY disappointed. Prior to moving back to the DC area, I got a referral for Gia in the Tyson's location. While I hesitated to go here because of the price, I tried other salons in the DC area that were only about $20 bucks cheaper and NOT WORTH IT! I eventually made an appointment with Gia this weekend and was more than pleased. I made an appointment for both my girlfriend and I whom both have had issues finding a good stylist that can work with thicker Asian hair. And of course, you pay for what you get. Gia did wonders with both of our hair. I wanted a simple cut, with bangs, lots of layers and some creativeness to it. Gia pinpointed it. Although, Miriam in SF will always be my first hair stylist love, Gia was great and I am definitely returning to her! For cutting my hair the first time, and just learning my style she did an amazing job. Additionally, she was sweet and didn't chatter my ear off like some of them do. Don't complain about the price, it's VIDAL SASSOON. You know it's expensive before you even look up the phone number to call for an appointment. They really know what to do with someone who has a lot of heavy, thick, unruly hair. I also never had to wait for long for my appointment, and the "bang trim" is absolutely free. Everytime I'm there I walked away with an easy to manage style. That is worth a lot to me. Ask for Amy. She is great to work with. read more

I've been going to Vidal Sassoon at Tyson's corner, McLean, VA for 10+ years and have watched the treatment of clients get worse and worse. It used to be a top-notch, but not anymore. "Customers Are Number 1!" is not the company motto anymore. Vidal Sassoon's customer rewarding program, birthday discount, etc. all in the past. The key to successful business is not just keep the right people on-board, but make your customers happy. The only reason I am still going to that place is the hair stylist Olive Yoon.
