A diamond in the rough! What a great breakfast in a town I'd never think to stop in. The staff was sweet and on it, the plates were HUGE and the food was legit. 2 of us had farmers breakfasts (upgraded the hashbrowns to spicy - recommend) with bacon, one of had French toast and one had the corn beef hash. The biscuits were LEGIT - we got one on the side with a side of gravy but we did wish they were warmed. The mimosas were stiff and the vibe was right. I loved their mixed berry blintz French toast the last time we ate here, but I like to try new items and the Sassy Onion normally has special items that uses seasonal fruits. I was hesitant to try this caramelized pear with Ghirardelli chocolate drizzle but I do not regret getting it instead!!! It was fabulous! This review is for an online order I placed on 11/13/24. I ordered the black bean burger on a gluten free bun with a side garden salad. I should have looked at the food before taking it to go, but here we are. First, the young woman at the hostess station/coffee bar was very friendly and handed me my order in a very timely manner. My food was even ready a bit before the expected time, so that was great. When I got back to my office, I opened the first box, which was the garden salad. The garden salad was quite good- delicious with fresh mixed greens, generous amount of cucumbers, sliced cherry tomatoes, and what seemed to be homemade croutons. The house vinaigrette was pretty good as well. Next came the black bean burger. The black bean patty was very obviously badly freezer burnt along the edges. I had to break off large chunks of the patty to remove the freezer burnt parts. Once that was removed, the burger was decent. I've been to Sassy for breakfast/brunch and lunch before and it's always been pretty good. This was just an off day. I would have hoped something with that much freezer burn would not be served. I know freezer burn is not dangerous in any way but it definitely affects the flavor, texture, and overall aesthetic appeal of the food. Terrible French Toast. Whoever makes it doesn't know the correct way to do it. Recently I ordered a grilled cheese and needed a magnifying glass to find the cheese, but the bread was plentiful. The Sassy Onion serves a great breakfast from drinks to food. They are usually very busy on the weekends but tables turn over fairly quickly. A standard wait is 15-20 minutes. I usually go early to avoid the rush. If you like a big breakfast from pancakes/waffles to omelets, you have to give it a try. They have specialty drinks, coffees and smoothies. It's a great place for kids. Parking is on the street but plentiful especially if you go early. The staff is friendly and attentive. read more

I enjoyed their popular sassy blintz breakfast and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Filled with cream cheese filling, this perfectly buttered french toast-style blintz is then also stuffed with fresh berries. Top it all with their house berry syrup and OMG, best breakfast of 2019! If you are thinking this is going to be a normal blintz, you will be pleasantly surprised! I loved my breakfast so much, there wasn't a drop left on the plate. Every once in awhile, you need to escape from the dining hall. And for my college freshman (Go Bearcats!), Sassy Onion was a great break from on campus dining. We hit the weekend rush just right and missed the long lines that formed just after we were seated. He had a Berry Bliss fruit smoothie and their "World Famous French Toast." There are several options served all day and he chose the Fresh Fruit Fields Forever with strawberries folded into sweet whipped cream. Personally, I prefer a more traditional presentation when the too aren't mixed together, but he enjoyed his meal. It was good, but "world famous" is a bit of a stretch. I think most people 'Combo Up' adding eggs and bacon or sausage, because without a side it is one large piece of brioche with the topping. I chose the Breakfast Tacos and added 1/2 an avocado for $2 extra. Very tasty and I would definitely order it again. Prices were fine with most entrees around $10 before add-ons or extras and the smoothie was a bit pricey $6.00. This will be in his college rotation when the parents come to visit and while I prefer Word of Mouth Neighborhood Bistro, this is a fun casual option just steps from campus. read more

Went with another couple on Sunday..Labor Day weekend at 9 am and there was not wait. I ordered the World Famous French Toast with berries which was FANTASTIC. My BF, who is gluten-free ordered the banana nut french toast which she loved. We also had the breakfast burrito and the eggs bene. Everyone loved their food and the service was fantastic. The leave a pot of coffee on the table as well as a carafe of water which was appreciated. One of the best breakfasts I have had in a long time! You will love the Sassy Onion. It is a small eatery in Salam and ever so wonderful, from their great breakfast (a must) to their yummy fresh salmon, you will be a happy camper. If you are a vegetarian there is something good for you. The service is superb and you are not rushed out. Parking is easy and the pricing is reasonable. You must have their breakfast. They have a gravy that is amazing. Have it over biscuits. Personally, I get a side of gravy with my pancakes as I don't use syrup, and that may not be for you, but it is great and just forget about how many calories you just ate. Overall an average place for breakfast. Pancakes were good and eggs and sausage were ok. My order was mixed up and they had made the wrong pancakes, but our waitress got it fixed up. Only bad part was my eggs and sausage came out about 10 minutes before the pancakes, so they ended up being cold by the time I got my full breakfast. Would probably try this next time. Mixed Berry French Toast: thick toast! Berries don't have too much flavor but I'd say the dish is decent. Wouldn't order it again though. 3 stars. Bread is too thick. If you order the double stack it'd be WAY too much. Homemade strawberry jam: FABULOUS!! OMG. Make sure to put this on your French toast to add another 1-2 star experience. The blueberry pancakes, cesar wraps with fries, cheeseburger & fries, Cesar salads & chicken/bacon, & iced tea/coffee are what I most frequently order. The waitstaff are diligent & deliver the food fast. The only major con is that the prices are really expensive. A typical dish ranges from fifteen to twenty dollars. The food is good, the coffee is good, the service is good -- but dear lord the place is noisy! They've tried to dampen the hard walls, floor and ceiling with acoustic panels, but it isn't enough. The clatter of clearing tables and customer conversations made it hard to hear my server, and I had to resort to sign language to get my companion to pass the sugar. Pray that no one orders a smoothie -- their industrial blender was a good twenty feet from my booth but left my ears ringing. If I can figure out when the place is sparsely occupied I will return, but I'll be prepared to back out of the door if it's busy. read more

The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel safe and comfortable as a queer/trans couple, which is rare to find in Salem.
