I like dive bars and i like pretty women and exotic dancers. This place has all three. I went there for my birthday. It was my first time in portland and the 4th club that I tried while visiting. This one was the best and Gwen was the one who made it stand out. She's beautiful, like classically pretty with an edge. Like Kristin Ritter with tattoos. But she's not just a pretty face and killer body. She's super talented while on stage. Doing tricks, flips and spins like a sultry trapeze artist. After she shot me a few come hither looks I got up and asked for a dance. That look! She knows what she's doing. The dance was fun and so sexy she created this atmosphere, this illusion where it felt like it was just her and I. She was funny, kind, gorgeous and a great dancer. You're visiting during Thanksgiving, you're hungry and can't find anything open. You can count on Sassy's for some good food and some entertainment. After walking to and calling about 5 different restaurants, we came to the realization the best option we had was to stop by Sassy's. It was happy hour too so why not. I was pleasantly surprised by their HH prices and even more by their tasty crispy chicken sandwiches and Cajun tots! Yeah, there were a few creepy men inside and I probably would have felt a bit uncomfortable without my husband, and the club is pretty small, but the bartenders and dancers were all really nice. I got the crispy buffalo chicken and my husband the crispy bbq chicken sandwich. They were a decent size with a lot of fries/tots. Beers were $3 and ciders $3.50. They had a three girl rotation, each dancing about 2-3 songs each turn. One in particular definitely did some impressive athletic moves up on the stage. She was also the only one that played Latino music, and took my request as well which was a plus. This is a very nice club. The dancers are beautiful, the quality of dancing is very high, and the music is good and not too loud. They have a full menu, and people seem to go there for drinks and meals, not just the dancing. The emphasis at this place is the stage dancing, although they also offer private dances. This is an excellent place to enjoy stage shows. The atmosphere is very laid back, and not all glammed up. The place is nice, but the only draw back is that the men's room is gross. read more

$1 cover each for both the boy and I (at 10pm on a Wednesday night), then proceeded to the bar to secure our 1 dollar bills, purchase two very reasonably priced pints of a local lager for $5 each, and sat down at a table. Very chill environment here which the boy found very perplexing. There are two stages and basically three segments to each show -- fully clothed, then goes the bras, and the panties next. Good-looking girlies who seem to genuinely have a good time. Only complaint was that none were very athletic and not many knew how to use the pole... too much crawling at the racks. I get it though... You get more tips by interacting with your customers and being up, close, and personal with them. But, you get some with pole tricks too! So, work on them pole tricks ladies and that 'WOW' factor a bit more! Overall, pretty good club... Not raunchy/ wild at all and not too much showmanship or artistry, but the girls aren't utterly talent less either, and are entertaining to an extent. read more

Brought my mom and aunt here to celebrate a birthday and we were turned away at the door due to my aunt having RA, and not being able to get her ID out of her wallet without help. She was wearing heels, which is also very painful and was sort of rocking back and forth, which the bouncer said was indicative of intoxication. Totally understand why they would think that but It really sucked that we couldn't do something due to a disability. If I knew I would have called ahead of time. read more

The food was good, the dancers were AMAZING and absolutely perfect. They perform amazingly and are so affectionate and amazing. However, the bouncers are a bit insane. I and 7 other people (of MY party) were respectful and bought food, drinks, AND tipped the dancers accordingly: everyone was tipping the dancers, the ENTIRE time. However, my group was harassed by the bouncers SEVERAL times. The bouncers, claimed we weren't tipping enough, however several parties who either did not tip OR tipped very little, were not talked to by the bouncers. The bar tenders and dancers made it an amazing experience (near perfect). But, the bouncers are horrible. He must have little man syndrome because he literally started screaming at my boyfriend because he overheard my boyfriend say something to me about the music being played. Sorry guys, I'm just not trinken your hate-O-ade (TM)... I hadn't been here since March I thought...y'know...maybe things have changed for the worse. They hadn't. Even having read all the negative reviews, and keeping those comments in mind, I didn't notice any of the major negatives folks are ascribing to this "Bar & Grill". Maybe I just come on the right nights (SHUT UP), but I've never had a bad time here. A word of note on BEER prices here: they are NOT high, unless you drink PBR. PBR is like $3.50, craft brews are $4. Why people drink something brewed by foreign-owned-brewing-mega-corp-conglomerate Miller in a city with more breweries-per-capita than any other in the WORLD (and in the same breath will condemn you to hell for having ever set foot in a Walmart) continues to baffle me. The best things about Sassy's are still the same: 1) NEVER a cover. 2) NEVER any pressure (to buy drinks OR dances, do they even do dances here?) 3) BEER: above-average number of taps and competitive prices. 4) It's close to one of the best beer bars in town: The Green Dragon, which also happens to close way too early read more

You know, I end up at a lot of places. Some of them are seedy. Some of them are Sassy. I think you know which one this is. I'm not the world's biggest fan of strip joints. My feminism has a tendency to flare up a bit when considering the political implications of non-unionized sex work. Furthermore, a lot of them are just sad to behold: Bored women stroll around a pole or mimic fellatio for abysmal tips from the fixed-and-dilated types sitting, alone, at the tip rail. You just know everyone's going home feeling dirty or violated or both. But you know what? This place is actually pretty cool. The dancers were vivacious (yes, I can use the word vivacious if I want to, I don't care what you think) and actually danced. The crowd was jovial (yes, I can say jovial if I want to) and seemed to be there to have a good time. I didn't feel unsafe. Then again, it was the end of the night. I probably would have felt safe picking a fight with a linebacker or a Mack truck. AHEM. Anyway. There was food! Hooray! My rum and coke was actually a tequila and coke, and a very strong one at that. The cocktail waitress, who was awesome, brought me a new drink, which actually contained rum. A lot of it. So apparently Portland is the strip club capital of USA, with the most establishments per capita at 8.86 per 100,000 (yeah, i looked it up). Who would have known? A friend who is a Portland native decided that our group (with guys and girls) should get the entire Portland experience. So we walk into Sassy's.... I'm not gonna lie, Sassy's is not the first "gentleman's club" i've visited (i've been to my fair share of bachelor parties). However, it is definitely the most unique. Sassy's has an alternative vibe that is distinctively Portland. From the face tattooed bouncer and the tattooed covered dancers to the alternative music overhead, Sassy's has a hipster feel. Sassy's also feels more like a dive bar than a strip club. It may be a bit grimy, but it is certainly not lacking character. Drinks are sufficiently strong and on my visit, I was surprised to see many women patrons. I guess that's just how Portland rolls. Sassy's is known as Portland's rockin' strip club and it does live up to that reputation. Often, the dancers will perform to rock music and not so much the usual type of music you would hear at a strip club. These ladies do not just simply dance, but totally rock the stage! Additionally, Sassy's as an atmosphere in which it does not only feel like a strip club but a dive bar as well. The food here is quite good, which is surprising since I usually expect the food at these sort of establishments to be just decent. In fact, they even offer a discount on large pizzas between 5pm-midnight! The bartenders are really helpful and nice. Very attentive to drink and food orders and are always willing to lend a listening ear. I really enjoy Sassy's for these reasons and more. I look forward to coming back to this spot soon. The bartender where we were warned us that it had changed, but we went anyway. If you're trying to find a fun night out in Portland, this isn't it. Maybe it was at one time, but not anymore. Oh Sassy's. We have such a love/hate relationship as far as strip clubs go. Somehow I always get pulled to you whenever hanging out with the boys. PROS: Pretty tattooed chicks, decent drinks CONS: Typically always crowded and the dancers and be rude sometimes (will not name names) - not directed at me but my friends. I have nothing against this place or those employed here. I just haven't had a super awesome experience here. Not that it matters, I only come out of 'support' for my man friends. I have a list of about 12 things that define Portland. Sassy's is on my list. With a dive bar ambiance and bartenders who pour with a heavy hand, Sassy's successfully caters to patrons with ties or tattoos alike. On busy weekend nights, it can get pretty smoky. The security staff is friendly and courteous (if you are). The dancers are quite varied in appearance, so on most nights, there is a girl for anyone's taste, so long as your taste is for attractive, fit women. Sassy's also offers a decent-sized menu, with reasonably priced steaks, burgers, crinkle-cut fries, and salads. There is also a couple of pool tables, video poker, and Buck Hunter for arcade game enthusiasts. Just remember that while Sassy's is not a huge bar in size, it draws a huge crowd, so you may be standing around waiting for a seat to free up when it gets busy. No Portlander can have a truly fantastic night out on the town without stopping for a round at Sassy's! read more

My return to this Portland nudie institution last night after an extended absence left me sad and empty inside. Sassy's has always been one of my more highly regarded and highly recommended strip clubs in Portland. Centrally located, divey and unpretentious, and replete with pool tables, stiff drinks, and nice girls, Sassy's was one of my favorite places to drop in and play pool with a buddy. Not so much anymore. Upon entering I was greeted by a bouncer rocking a Kevlar vest and mercenary-style utility belt. Normally I would laugh at someone so decked out to bounce a strip bar in Portland, but Immediately upon entering I recognized why: Douche City. I have never seen so many D-bags in one place in my whole life (last night's immediate present company excluded, of course). The vibe in the place was frenetic and out of control. I felt like at any moment the place could erupt in a drunken battle-to-the-death over some naked girl. The intrusive and intense eye-in-the-sky feeling the bouncer (who actually seemed like a nice guy underneath the face tats) gave off didn't help. I saw dudes knocking their drinks into the rack, I saw people almost getting kicked out all over the place, I saw one of the filthiest bathrooms I have ever seen (outside of Lowbrow and Magic Garden). Sassy's has all of the bad elements I don't like in a strip club, but with no balancing/redeeming qualities. Plus, they took away the pool tables. :( The only real upside I saw to the place is that the bartenders and servers were super nice and friendly. The service was definitely on-point. I gotta hand it to a staff that deals with that type of crowd and can still be awesome. The girls themselves? A mix of crazy, strong (on the pole), and blah. The two stars are really for the service staff and the few girls that had the mad pole skillz. Otherwise, bunk. read more

'So, before you leave, how about it?' That little prompt from JW led to my first trip to a strip bar. That and a generous Scotch poor at that new Matador bar/chain place on E Burnside and 24th. So, after getting a tad lost with a non-driver's directions, I parked in the small parking lot. Turns out I had passed this place before when I was walking to the bowling alley for the election day tallies. Even then it looked a little sketch. Still, it's a strip club. I'd rather it be sketch then Klazzy. Klazzy freaks me out, sketch seems OK. I entered the place to get stop short by the velvet rope. Oh yeah, velvet rope. The bouncer with the Maori Tattoos on his face checked my ID and let me in. From that point forward I would never be able to say I have yet to step foot inside a strip club. A little bit of my innocence was taken from me. Or not. Either way, no cover! Woot. The inside is even worse than the outside lets on. After getting fairly cheap beer ($3.50 PBR) the group (9 people) got the circle table on the back wall. I scootched in first so I discovered the giant holes in the booth. My back is still aching do to the constant battle I waged with the booth no to fall into the springs. Did I mention there was not too-expensive beer and no cover? I had to keep on reminding myself. So I felt really weird looking at the chicks. All of them were Suicide Girl-esque. We got there before 9 so at first there were either butterfaces, inexperienced pole workers or chicks who could work out a little more. Suffice it to say there was a lot of "Here's my cervix! See it? Let me spread a little more." It wasn't sexy, it wasn't interesting, it was just odd. I did enjoy when the pole dancing though. How the hell do they do that? It was really beautiful -- like ballet beautiful -- to watch. As the night wore on, more beers were consumed and the whole nakedness thing lost it's shockingness. A couple guys I with insisted I come with them to sit at the edge of the strip pit. It was really awkward. I kept on laughing. I mean, how else am I supposed to react to a girl rubbing herself in front of my face? It wasn't a secret turn-on, it was just kind of gross. I did find out where she got her cute though-high stalking though! So there you go. A skeezy place with seemingly nice conversationalists who happen to strip. I thought Striptease was a sexier experience than this place (and no, I didn't think Striptease was a sexy movie in the slightest), but it was fun. I doubt I'll ever go to a strip joint again, but now at least I can say I have been to one. read more

This was my first strip club experience. Based on Yelp's 3 and a half star rating (and the "smells like herpes" comment somewhere below), I was a tad hesitant to go to Sassy's, but my friend Ellen is a bad influence, and so is a long day of craft beer drinking. Turns out I had nothing to fear other than keeping the singles flowing while the girls did splits, handstands and upside-down stuff, twirling around poles like naked ninjas. Seriously, if gymnastics looked like this I would pay way more attention to the Olympics. A couple notes: - The bar pours extremely stiff drinks (har har) - There are three stages with rotating dancers. My favorite's name was Diamond. - You're supposed to tip $1 per song if you sit by a stage. Don't be that guy. Do it. - A lap dance costs $25 (I learned this the way you would imagine) - The music here is awesome. Beck, Coldwar Kids, David Bowie? Yes please. - There's an outside patio if you want to smoke or take a break from all the vanilla-scented body lotion Should I ever find myself back in PDX, I would love to make a return trip to this wonderland of flexibility. I live quite close to Sassy's. After a drunken bbq at my house, we decided that going there was a good idea. And actually, it was. That is, if you're already drunk and just want to buy the shyest person you know a lapdance and then try to watch through the curtain without him seeing you. Good times. The strippers were quite impressive with their pole tricks...except for maybe the one that fell on her head. Also, I didn't even see any fake boobs. Their boobs were quite tiny actually. If you'd asked me to write a review of this place six months ago, I'd be hovering around two stars. But, surprisingly enough, I'm capable of change and admitting when I've judged a place a little too hastily. My first experience with this club was the night of our own JW's birthday. We were given the upstairs balcony for our group which, I have to admit, was not a bad place. We were kept a safe distance from the brotient (yes, bro quotient) and the top of the pole ended right in front of our balcony which, depending on the dancer, made for some very amusing views. However, I was turned off by basically everything else. The crowd seemed to be rife with douchebags, the girls were of varying quality, and I resent the "MINIMUM $1 PER SONG WHILE AT THE RACK" signs, even though I'd never dream of sitting at the rack unless I planned to tip at LEAST a couple of bucks per song. My most recent visit was stunningly different, though. Let me be clear here, though - I give 90% of the credit for this four star review to Malice. Oh, Malice. Tattoo-covered, giant-deathhawk-sporting, ever-so-flirtatious Malice. She's stunningly natural when she dances and her pole work seems effortless. She's a joy to watch and uh, yeah, smokin' hot. The crowd, while still riding high in the bro-zone layer, seemed pretty laid back. With the Christmas lights and free-flowing booze, it reminded me of one of my favorite dive bars back home.. but with strippers. No one seemed overly aggro or creepy and I genuinely enjoyed myself. I'm from MN, and just like everywhere but Portland, the strip club is a douchey and pricey ordeal, leaving you broke and buzzed on soda pop or lacking a buzz from a $12 watered down bottom shelf drink. To every Portlander who complains about a place like this, drive up to Deja Vu in Seattle and return thankful that your city is free and unafraid to take risks. This place has not just $4 taps ($2 at happy hour?!?!?!?!), but awesome beers at that. Great service from the waitress with quick turnaround. The dancers are quirky, fit and without artificial enhancement. A buck gets you a nice show, and the girls aren't begging for private dances and escorting you to the ATM. The best part was the music. Die Antwoord, Uffie, E-40, and weird oldies tunes stood out. Not one Def Leppard or Nu Metal show. So, things that suck about strip clubs: huge covers, no alcohol/insanely overpriced alcohol, terrible music, private dance agro-hookers. All solved by Sassy's, the "Best Value in America." read more

Seedy I've been mulling around words to describe the club since I walked in. It's very dark and crowded. I felt like I was in someones attic. I was kind of afraid to touch anything, because I was afraid it would be sticky. You know what I mean? I think a big part of the problem was that this is the place you END UP after stopping off at a few other bars for drinks. You come here AFTER you get your buzz going. Actually you would have to. The drinks aren't very strong, and they certainly aren't cheap. On the plus side, I will say that the servers and bartenders are very nice, as were several of the dancers. I witnessed some fine pole work. Would I come back? Mmmm, maybe if I was REALLY buzzed, and the rest of the gang was going, but not with 1 or 2 people. I usually have 3-4 star experiences at Sassy's, but my most recent experience there was tarnished enough to warrant a write-up. Even in this economy, I always adhere to the etiquette of one dollar per song, per person minimum, whether the dancers seem inspired or not, and I always buy at least one drink from the bar. This particular occasion (Wednesday, Nov 18th, 2009) was no different. During one three-song set at the stage, my two friends and I each put a dollar down for the first song. At the end of the song, the dancer swept the dollars onto the stage, as is customary. As the second song began, we all put a another dollar on the counter, but this time, the dancer came over and immediately swept the dollars onto the stage, probably to give her room to perch on the counter. Toward the end of that second song, a person who I can only assume was the manager (he never identified himself) came up to us and sternly informed us that we were not honoring the dollar-per-song minimum. I explained the recent order of events vis-a-vis the tipping, but he then repeated the same stone-faced charge as if he didn't hear anything I had said. I left shortly after this episode, costing his dancers the last $14 I had in my wallet. It will also cost his club whatever I spend on such entertainment in the future, because there are many other places in town where I can have a similar experience without being accused of loitering. read more

Assholes for bouncers, annoying semi douchey dj, snotty, stuck up strippers, etc....... The last time I was there I actually had a stripper give my money back to me and point out that there were open seats in the back if I wanted to go and sit there. Listen (insert nasty c word here) !
