We had excellent service as well from start to finish, we had a few modifications and a decently sized table but no detail was missed and the server was very kind and welcoming. Will be back!

Finally paid this neighborhood fave a visit! Admittedly I went in half expecting sub-par service,…read moreafter perusing Yelp reviews, so you can imagine my excitement when the bartenders and servers were both attentive and friendly lol. Parking in NW isn't the easiest but it says something that everyone in my group found parking within the same block. It is a pretty busy part of town, lots of foot traffic, and lots of traffic traffic. Buses and ambulances and police cars. It reminded me a bit of these old books I read as a kid, Richard Scarys Busy World (iykyk). Anyway, back to the bar - there is a decent amount of seating outside as well as indoors. The server promptly brought us menus and, although everything has to be ordered at the bar, he still comes by several times while we ate dinner and had drinks out front. My friends order Fish & Chips, and I'm told they are some of the best in the area. Everything was crispy and well seasoned. I got the taco salad with came with the house chili instead of taco meat - it is really pretty good! I even get a side of extra chippies to go with my meal. The portion was a little skimp, I think, considering most of this dish consists of lettuce. If only they would add more to it and turn this sucker into a big ole dish, this salad could be awesome! The drinks were good, not measured but not poured with a super heavy hand like some other places I know.

After placing my food order, I waited approximately 42 minutes and received nothing. During that time, I observed the cook outside smoking and drinking with guests while paying customers continued waiting for their orders. At that point, I requested a refund because it was obvious that serving customers was not a priority. The situation became even worse when the bartender attempted to process the refund. She was unable to print a refund receipt and, after I mentioned that I was familiar with the Toast system, actually asked me to come behind the bar and process the refund myself. Asking a customer to do an employee's job because staff do not know how to perform basic functions is beyond unprofessional. I then discovered that I had been charged for five drinks despite consuming only two. When I pointed this out, the bartender's response was that she "didn't know" because she had just started her shift. That answer is completely unacceptable. If your staff cannot accurately account for what customers are being charged, that is a serious operational problem and raises legitimate concerns about billing practices. As a property manager located nearby, I have spent years recommending your establishment to residents and visitors. Under the previous ownership, I regularly supported and promoted your business with you all providing me $20 gift cards to my new residents because it provided a positive experience. Unfortunately, based on what I witnessed during this visit, I can no longer do so in good conscience. Watching staff socialize and drink while customers wait nearly an hour for food, being overcharged for drinks I never consumed, and then being asked to process my own refund is one of the most unprofessional experiences I have had at any bar or restaurant.

Well, they didn't mess up the beer, I guess…read more The blooming onion was a disaster. So underfried that it would not pull apart and worse, eating it was like biting into a bag of uncooked flour. I'm not sure that could be very good for me, so I left most of it. The bartender was at one moment nice enough to start, but fairly quickly, he became a Portlandia-esque parody of all that is the worst of hipsters. He corrected the guys after me on the history behind the Rob Roy and Roy Rogers to the point that the were embarrassed and had to apologize. He also corrected folks for trying to sit at the bar midsection because "people like to order there." Really? Then put a little sign up that says "Orders Here, non-seating area" or something. Those guys also were embarrassed enough to apologize and try to explain how sitting at the bar is a better experience. Here's a secret for you... don't deliberately choose to belittle or otherwise make your patrons feel bad... oh, and learn how to cook something as simple as a blooming onion furchrissakes.

I've developed a personal tradition of stopping in after catching a movie at Cinema 21, and I'm almost certain I'm not the only one who's adopted that routine since it opened. The drink menu is solid and creative, though they don't carry heavy cream, which means my usual White Russian is off the table. Not a tragedy -- just one of those minor disappointments you file away and move on from. The world, unfortunately, does not revolve around my cocktail preferences. Food-wise, the Royale with cheese burger is genuinely excellent. No sides come with it, but you can order those separately, which feels intentional rather than stingy -- this is more of a snack-and-drink kind of place than a full sit-down dinner destination. The vibe is where Side Eye really shines. It's fun, lively, a little playful without being chaotic, and noticeably different from the typical east-side bar scene. It feels like a natural post-movie decompression chamber -- somewhere to talk about what you just watched, argue about whether it was brilliant or terrible, and let the night continue without committing to anything too serious. It's also a great spot to bring friends, especially those who haven't spent much time on this side of the river. Distinctive, welcoming, and just different enough to feel memorable.
