So, so good! This plate was gone in 5 minutes!

When you want good satay you just know Satay LA is where to find it! I am so happy Satay LA has re-opened since the whole Covid shutdown and is now serving locally in Chinatown! As a true Indo girl, eating satay was a real treat growing up because my parents only made it on special occasions. If you're a true Indo, you'll know why....there is so much involved in making that "special ingredient" and marinating the meat to make each skewer so flavorful! Trust me, Ian has definitely mastered it! Each bite you take is so mouthwatering, the meat is super tender and the peanut sauce...holy heck, I want to lick the container clean! If you're craving some real, authentic Indonesian satay, then Satay LA is where it's at!

Got food while enjoying a lazy, Thursday afternoon at Monkish Brewery patio in Torrance. Satay set-up a table (not a food truck) around 4 pm, and were ready to go on-time. It was well staffed, and the food is cooked to order so will take 10-15 minutes after paying (using a pager to let us know to pick up the food). It wasn't dinner time yet, so decided to order something to snack on with our very high alcohol content beers. Pretty focused menu: pork or chicken or tofu skewers. We ordered the pork plate: 4 skewers with 3 pieces of protein each, scoop of jasmine rice, vegetable salad with curry dressing, some cucumber slices, and some shrimp chips with peanut dipping sauce, for $14. All was good...really loved the marinade on the skewers, and it was cooked beautifully. The taste and presentation reminded me more of Filipino BBQ than Thai Satays...makes us want to try other Indonesian grilled meats. We would absolutely order from Satay LA again if we see them, and would get two of the 'A La Carte' (just protein and rice)...one plate was absolutely not enough for the two of us, even as a snack. Really delicious.

Pork saté with white rice and cabbage slaw! Don't forget to load up on their peanut sauce and sambal!

I love Satay LA, truly! I can't say enough good things about it! I'm part Indonesian and have grown up eating saté my entire life, so I was super excited to try their saté! And honestly, after my first visit I was hooked! I've probably been 5 times and each time they had new, exciting items added to their menu! Take my advice and try them all! The pork saté is my favorite! And the chicken is almost just as good! I've even tried their vegan tofu saté and the flavor matches their transitional saté perfectly! Their nasi goreng with fried egg is UNREAL, I almost died after the first bite! Don't miss it! Omg and the absolute star of the show is their PEANUT SAUCE! I could drink it you guys, it's so tangy and good! I literally drench my entire plate in it And if you're looking for a sweet, dessert treat, PLEASE try the cendol! It's like boba mixed with an icee and full of sweet flavor! I could honestly probably drink 10 if my body would let me! Their sides are also fabulous, I love the krupuk (shrimp crackers) and the amazing cabbage slaw they have! Please please please try everything they have to offer! You won't regret it! I'm going to continue going back and I hope to see you there!

The Indonesian foods are very delicious and pretty fulfilling! I order their Chicken Satay Plate including their soft Satay Tacos for the outdoor dining around at 6 pm and they all tastes really amazing along with their delicious homemade peanut dipping sauces! I highly recommend getting their chickens over their porks honestly because the chickens are more comfortable to eat!! They also provide me some glasses of water as well. The service is definitely fast and friendly! If you guys haven't tried this place already you guys are really missing out. I will be back again! Thank you so much Ian and Stephanie for everything!! Keep up the great work!

Amazing food on a great night. I enjoyed the taste. Little skewers with bacon rice and some krupuk Indonesian shrimp chips (which are super tasty). The rice was super good, and a good size serving. So glad they were serving tonight at Progress on main. Definitely looking forward to coming back here for the food.

    Nasi is delicious !!

The curry broth was creamy, spicy, and packed with flavor. It came with shrimp, fish cake, tofu, egg, corn, bean sprouts, and noodles, so there was a lot in that bowl. There was actually an error with our order, but our server was so apologetic and immediately had the kitchen remake it. We didn't ask or complain, she just wanted to make it right. Really appreciated that. The Nasi Campur was great too. Rice with BBQ pork, Chinese sausage, fried chicken, and egg. Lots of different flavors on one plate and good if you want to try a little bit of everything. Roti Prata is always hard for me to pass up. Crispy and flaky on the outside, chewy inside, and that curry sauce they give you for dipping is so good. We finished that pretty quickly. Good food and even better service. Mistakes happen, especially at restaurants. How they handle them matters more to me, and our server handled ours perfectly. Would definitely come back.

Food came out quickly and was quite good. Singapore Laksa (6/10) - the curry was rather thin and lacking in flavor but maybe that's because it's intended to be more of a soup. I would've preferred rice on the side instead of rice noodles. Next time I would get the actual curry instead of this, but that is just personal preference Roti (8/10) - probably the best thing we had. It was simple but very delicious, flakey and decadent. The curry sauce was much thicker and paired along well, giving a sweet and mildly spicy flavor Nasi Campur (7/10) - the first bite was delicious, but gradually became more monotonous after each bite. I think the ratio of fried chicken thigh to the sausage and cha siu was slightly off, adding to the repetitive nature of the dish. Overall, it was still quite good

They have so many different options, including rice dishes, sauces, fried chips, snacks, and Indonesian drinks. I actually think some of their dishes taste a lot better than some of the Indonesian restaurants we've tried in SoCal. Everything is always freshly made, and the flavors really remind me of home. My friends and I usually get the banana-wrapped rice with beef rendang or the chicken version. We also tried the nasi kucing with octopus, and it was really good! The only downside I'd say about the rice plates is that I wish they gave more meat and less rice, especially with the larger wrapped ones. The prices definitely aren't cheap for these meals, but the food does taste good. We also tried their fried banana topped with cheese and Ceres, and it was chef's kiss. It was so good that I regret not getting more! This is a place we always used to visit when we lived in SoCal, and we still make a point to stop by whenever we're visiting down there now that we've moved to the Bay Area. There are still so many other dishes from this place that I haven't tried yet, but I definitely will the next time I visit! Parking is first come first serve and it's free. Sometimes during the weekend, it gets packed. There are limited outdoor seatings in front of the shop and no indoor seatings. They have microwave inside for you to heat the food and water as well. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're ever in the area. If you're craving authentic Indonesian flavors that remind you of home, this is definitely worth a visit.

My kid laughed the vegetarian noodles but said, it could use extra spices. A bit blander than what we get in Bay area Indonesian places. Overall, the owner/server was nice.
