Review On 8/17/24 I went to Indonesian Night Market with my wife. She was born and raised in Indonesia and we were very excited. LA SATAY was set up there, along with a few other food vendors. ALL the lines were long so we just decided to choose LA SATAY because it looked shorter than Marine Satay. We waited in line for 2 hours and as we finally neared the front, one worker said they were running out of meat so we might not get to our order. He said we could order but would refund us if we didn't get any food. I told him we were in line for 2 hours and missed most of the Indonesian Night Market shows and events and the best he could come up with was to put hands up with a shoulder shrug. We ordered with the female owner and I expressed to her our frustration. I told her we waited in line for 2 hours and missed a lot of the events and she apologized. She said the event did not supply them with electricity so they had to use a generator that ended up malfunctioning at some point I guess. I would hope a well run business had contingencies such as a back up generator and/or an additional battery. Also, I would assume a well run business would know their inventory and to give guests in line a warning PRIOR to waiting up to over an hour that they may run out of food. Further, if something goes wrong because of poor planning, I would fully expect the business to take accountability and offer the customer an incentive such as a discount at time of purchase or a gift card or something to make things right. We ordered and people AFTER us began getting their orders. Mind you, they ran out of tofu so all the orders were chicken plates so they were all the same. We complained that people AFTER us were getting orders before us and all the workers seemed confused and overwhelmed. We waited 30 minutes to finally get our orders and the chicken was COLD, BURNT, DRY and had NO flavor. The rice was between cold and warm. We didn't get any shrimp chips because they ran out. So we paid FULL PRICE and didn't get what's supposed to be included in the plate. If I wasn't starving and didn't wait 2.5 hours to get our food, I'd return it and demand a refund. The entire experience with LA SATAY was EXTREMELY UNSATISFACTORY. The lack of organization, customer service and food quality was so VERY poor. The male owner posted a video the morning of the Indonesian Night Market and said his "lifestyle" affects his product and his services. Recipe is from his Grandmother and he takes a lot of pride in what he does. He wanted to serve the "best product tonight". I left a short and polite review on the comment section and they deleted it. I doubt their Grandmother would approve of serving customers cold food, poor business management and poor customer service. This is not the type of service I was expecting from the Indonesian culture and they lacked empathy, grace, pride, generosity and the desire to please. I would NOT recommend eating at an LA SATAY tent. Choose another vendor. read more

This is another review of a popup that was at Trademark Brewing a couple weeks ago - when I saw an Indonesian truck would be there, with nothing but really good reviews, couldn't not. I always love an excuse to be back at Trademark, and I hadn't had Indonesian food in forever. Having now tried them, I will say, the chicken satay itself is... good. I don't think it's the "best I've ever tasted", but it was pretty good. A *little* dry, but I enjoyed it well enough. I do agree with my wife, though, 4 skewers sounds like a decent amount, but they were fairly small skewers for the price. My wife just got the 4 skewers with rice for $9, which definitely felt a little high. I got the "plate", which for $12 also includes some shrimp chips and some coleslow, both of which, unlike the skewers, I thought were absolutely of exceptional quality - but like the satay, not that much of either (especially not after my wife ate half my shrimp chips! I don't blame her, though, they were very good!) After eating the plate minus half the shrimp chips, I *was* pretty full, but a lot of that was probably rice (and a couple beers, obviously.) I also completely agree with other reviews calling out the extremely fantastic peanut sauce, which they absolutely do need to bottle - I probably wouldn't go out of my *way* to pay $12 for their plates (or $14 for pork - which I would've definitely tried, if they hadn't been out of it that day), but I absolutely would go out of my way to buy a bottle of that peanut sauce! But, like everything else, they also don't give you a lot of it. I ate the majority of my wife's, and that was *almost* enough. So basically, if they were at Trademark again and I was hungry, I certainly wouldn't mind getting a plate again, but I wouldn't make a special trip to go back. (And if they were back at Trademark, honestly I'd kinda rather just snack on shrimp chips and spicy coleslaw, if that were an option.) read more

When you want good satay you just know Satay LA is where to find it! I am so happy Satay LA has re-opened since the whole Covid shutdown and is now serving locally in Chinatown! As a true Indo girl, eating satay was a real treat growing up because my parents only made it on special occasions. If you're a true Indo, you'll know why....there is so much involved in making that "special ingredient" and marinating the meat to make each skewer so flavorful! Trust me, Ian has definitely mastered it! Each bite you take is so mouthwatering, the meat is super tender and the peanut sauce...holy heck, I want to lick the container clean! Got food while enjoying a lazy, Thursday afternoon at Monkish Brewery patio in Torrance. Satay set-up a table (not a food truck) around 4 pm, and were ready to go on-time. It was well staffed, and the food is cooked to order so will take 10-15 minutes after paying (using a pager to let us know to pick up the food). It wasn't dinner time yet, so decided to order something to snack on with our very high alcohol content beers. Pretty focused menu: pork or chicken or tofu skewers. We ordered the pork plate: 4 skewers with 3 pieces of protein each, scoop of jasmine rice, vegetable salad with curry dressing, some cucumber slices, and some shrimp chips with peanut dipping sauce, for $14. All was good...really loved the marinade on the skewers, and it was cooked beautifully. The taste and presentation reminded me more of Filipino BBQ than Thai Satays...makes us want to try other Indonesian grilled meats. We would absolutely order from Satay LA again if we see them, and would get two of the 'A La Carte' (just protein and rice)...one plate was absolutely not enough for the two of us, even as a snack. Recently visited a food cart at Trademark Brewing that said Satay LA. Asked for an a la cart dish. When I received the dish I noticed rice portion was extremely small (maybe half cup). I politely asked for a little more and the young lady said that is what you get and pointed to a pic of the plate which did show a small portion. If I wanted more rice had to spend $3 for a full dish. Not much but also didn't want a whole dish. I will not order from them again. Btw, this was my 2nd incident with them. I love Satay LA, truly! I can't say enough good things about it! I'm part Indonesian and have grown up eating saté my entire life, so I was super excited to try their saté! And honestly, after my first visit I was hooked! I've probably been 5 times and each time they had new, exciting items added to their menu! Take my advice and try them all! The pork saté is my favorite! And the chicken is almost just as good! I've even tried their vegan tofu saté and the flavor matches their transitional saté perfectly! Their nasi goreng with fried egg is UNREAL, I almost died after the first bite! Don't miss it! Omg and the absolute star of the show is their PEANUT SAUCE! I could drink it you guys, it's so tangy and good! I literally drench my entire plate in it And if you're looking for a sweet, dessert treat, PLEASE try the cendol! It's like boba mixed with an icee and full of sweet flavor! I could honestly probably drink 10 if my body would let me! The Indonesian foods are very delicious and pretty fulfilling! I order their Chicken Satay Plate including their soft Satay Tacos for the outdoor dining around at 6 pm and they all tastes really amazing along with their delicious homemade peanut dipping sauces! I highly recommend getting their chickens over their porks honestly because the chickens are more comfortable to eat!! They also provide me some glasses of water as well. WOW!!!! Satay LA, this was epic!! I wish I could give 6 stars!!! I put in an order for satay Sunday and I was not disappointed at all. I have seen so much love for them on social media and the hype is well worth it!!!! I ordered 10 tofu &10 pork skewers along with nasi goreng with a fried egg and the cabbage slaw. EVERYTHING was absolutely DELICIOUS. All the portions were perfect and very filling! Their sauces are amazing!!!!! They all accented the food and went so well with my entire plate! When I picked up my order, the customer service was top notch!! Very helpful and friendly. They helped me with bringing my order to my car (it was a big order).
