They no…read morelonger know how to recreate the 100x Spicy and 100x Numbing Ma La Tang and Ma La Xiang Guo that made this place so special. The sauce has definitely changed. The Ma La Xiang Guo used to be a vibrant bright red, coated in rich, flavorful chili oil and sauce. There was always plenty of leftover sauce at the bottom that was perfect for making delicious Ma La fried rice the next day. Now it's much drier, less flavorful, and doesn't have the same spicy, numbing kick. It's really disappointing because this used to be one of my favorite spots. I hope they bring back the original recipe and flavors that made this place stand out. I asked for extra spicy and extra numbing. Instead of the usual deep red, fiery Mala Xiang Guo, I got something that looked like it was in a low sodium diet. So pale and washed out that zhangliang malatang should rebrand to Zhangliang tang becuase there was nothing "mala" about it.
