Anyone who buys fresh produce knows that sometimes a papaya, jicama, or other fruit can look perfect on the outside but end up going bad on the inside--that's just nature. What sets this place apart is how they handle it. If you bring it to their attention, they'll happily replace it at no extra cost. The same goes for their farm-fresh eggs. They genuinely care about their customers and stand behind their products. Their eggs are local, high quality, and incredibly reasonably priced for what you're getting. The produce is always fresh, and their customer service is exceptional. They once gave us a rue plant that wasn't looking its best, and today it's absolutely thriving. Another thing we love is their beautiful sunflower bouquets. They're only $5 a bunch, which is already a great deal. Even better, if you stop by near closing and the sunflowers are fully opened and at the end of their display life, they'll often give them away for free rather than let them go to waste. It's clear that this is a family business that values quality, fairness, and their community. We keep coming back because we know we'll always be treated honestly and with kindness. I had a bit of a hard time finding the place. So when you go, you need to turn in where it says Somis Ranch Apartments. It looks like Camarillo City Hall is right there also. The berry stand is "behind" Crossroads Shopping Center on the corner of Somis and Las Posas. The stand is set back behind the strawberry field, so it is not right on Somis Rd. Hope that helps! If all the strawberries were large or the largest ones go in first, you fit fewer berries per basket. (2) Also size does not determine sweetness. At the start of strawberry season in January, all of the fruit is large, by May and June the strawberries on the plant are smaller, much sweeter, and have a shorter shelf life after harvesting.

I had a hankering for lemon bars but they were giving out free samples of Lemon macaroons, and lemon cookies, both were silky and tart and just really smooth. They did have lemon bars available and with the great taste of cookies in my mind I bought two, especially since they were two bucks a piece. I split one on the way back up to LA from down south and I wished I had bought more than two. I should have bought more, the lemon bar was again smooth and tart and it honestly was a perfect mix. I brought one for the friend I was staying with telling him it was good. He took a bite of it and said 'it was really good,' and nodded his head in approval. 'Really good,' and then ate more. Now that I'm back from Cali, I really wish I had bought more lemon bars, like half a dozen, that and I should have swam more. Yeah, lemon bars and swimming.

It is exactly as it sounds. I am not sure it even has a real name but it is a permanent fruit stand outside of Oxnard and known to every cycling organization in this area of Los Angeles. The man who is a permanent fixture behind the counter always has a smile and some samples of fresh, red ripe strawberries for any cyclists who come down the road and stop at his little stand to buy a few drinks and some fruit to refuel. He welcomes us to take advantage of a bit of shade and some chairs for rest before making the trek back to wherever their journey began. I can't say I even know his name, but he is extremely kind and offers cold beverages and fruit at rock bottom prices. There is a restroom inside the building next to the stand. There is usually a guy sitting on the front porch there and an old dog who sleeps on the sofa inside. That dog never budges with the many people who come in and out. There are photos of cyclists on the walls of his stand and he takes pictures of any of the large groups that come through. Strawberry Stand, I will be back! Thanks for all the hospitality!
