I had to make the absolutely gut wrenching decision to put my sweet almost 17 year old yorkie down a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately Dr. Tatum was not in that day but Dr. Lewis handled it. I just didn't feel any warmth or compassion from the office staff members at all. Nobody said 'sorry for your loss' or 'she was a good dog' or even looked up from their computers when the euthanasia was complete and I was leaving. I realize that people have to become desensitized to the death of pets when working in the field, however, my dog had been a patient for over 10 years at their office. That was one of the absolute hardest days of my life and nobody was even bothered enough to see a sobbing person and say 'sorry for your loss.' I will miss Dr. Tatum himself but when the time comes to find a new vet, I will be using a different practice. Bottom line: if you're looking for compassionate end of life care, please research this thoroughly as this was unfortunately not my experience with the current staff.

The next step was an emergency exploratory surgery, another recommendation from Dr Kees. I documented in my calendar on JULY 26th that my bullmastiff ninja'd her way to the small yellow mango I dropped. She swallowed while before I could stop her. For two weeks I observed for possible blockage. Yesterday we opened her up and found a FOUR MONTH OLD mango seed that partially instructed her small intestines. It's been removed. My dog is improving. I'd like to thank dr Kees and staff for their compassion and dedication to saving my girl. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude. You are my heroes. God bless you all.

Our pup got checked, they took him to get X-rays and was back in no time. Unfortunately, after the adoption, the dog attacked our child and other animals in our home. Our adoption contract states that Paws Humane Society would take the dog back if necessary. We were initially told that we could return the dog, but once they realized we live in Alabama rather than Georgia, they refused to honor what we had been told and did not follow through with the terms outlined in the contract. Rather than working with us to resolve the situation, Paws Humane Society proceeded to take us to court, resulting in significant legal expenses and financial hardship for our family. This was especially disappointing because our intention from the beginning was to support a local organization and provide a home for a dog in need. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage others to carefully review all contracts, policies, and return provisions before adopting. We felt unsupported during a difficult situation and believe Paws Humane Society failed to uphold the commitments outlined in its own agreement.
