I cannot believe it has taken me this long to finally get here. When I lived in STL, I had a SOTS close to my home and I dined there on the regular. Even though I am thrilled to have one on the IL side of the river, it's a half hour drive to enjoy. The other day I was running errands and shopping in Edwardsville. I made it a point to do it around the lunch hour, so I could enjoy an calzone. I ordered at the counter as you do and lucky for me, the cashier was patient with me. As I ordered, I kept reading the menu and changed my mind two times and finally stayed with my third choice. Having a love of jalapeños, Pancho Villa was my final choice. Pancho Villa not only gave my fresh jalapeños, it was also filled with red peppers, smoked cheddar, Mozzarella and the meat was Chorizo prepared in Smoked Chili Oil. Yum-Yum and no heartburn. For dipping or spreading on top, I was given a cup of Queso. One nice thing about SOTS, is they offer adult beverages. They have an excellent selection of local craft beers and wines to pair with your calzone. I paired mine with, Pale Ale from Schlafly. The dining room is clean and crisp. It's done in an industrial style. They have regular tables and a few hightop tables, so you can choose which one is best for you. On the tables you'll find linen napkins with reusable flatware. If you can eat an entire calzone, I am impressed. For those of us who cannot, next to the soda machine is a stack of eco-friendly to-go boxes to put your leftovers in, to take home. read more

My wife and I ordered from the kiosk vs from the register, it was easy enough and self explanatory. My wife ordered the Meat Me In St. Louis and swapped the provel cheese for mozzarella. She ate the entire calzone. That is an absolute accomplishment. My wife never finishes her meal. I ordered the Fatty B and I wished that I would have ordered without the ricotta. Just didn't blend in well in my opinion. Otherwise the calzone was very flavorful. The calzone was huge. I would also like to mention that the crust is soft and delicious. One of the better ones I have tried. We also ordered the S'mores desert. Now that is a great calzone. I would strongly recommend trying it. It is a massive portion. I would stop in on date night just to order the S'mores desert. Great for splitting up vs tackling it alone. The restaurant was clean and very comfortable. Staff that we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. A definite must visit. read more

I love this place, I wish it was cheaper especially to make a custom calzone but it's fantastic. The Italian salad (small) is also a good one to get - usually spit it for two. The red sauce is the best. I wish it was a bigger cup. The ricotta cheese is so creamy! It's a low key place, and usually about 10-15 minutes to wait for your pizza. They have a good selection of beers and the place is very new! Definitely worth a stop, and saw they also have a drive thru which makes it way too convenient. read more

So delish! I had the Hot Mother-Clucker and I was worried it would be too spicy as I like a moderate level of heat and not so spicy you can't taste the flavors. This calzone was spot on with the spice level and had an oh-so-soft and warm crust. I loved it! My partner got the Fatty B, I think it was called, and he also said his was delicious. They have the Lucky brand sodas, and I love me a Frostie. The calzones are large and I took my second half home. Service was quick and friendly. We were asked if we were pleased with our meal, which we were! We will definitely be back, probably a lot because we live close. Last note, it is a bit noisy inside, I had a little trouble hearing my partner while we ate. Still, super happy to have this gem in our area. Late night snack after an afteroon wedding. We ordered the Bull's Eye and Costanza calzones. After seeing a Costanza calzone, how could you not, iykyk. Both calzones were delicious and were completely consumed, even though we didn't think we were that hungry. Service as friendly and quick. Would recommend for anyone in the area. read more

Sauce on the side is so fun with so many yummy calzones to try. I want to work through the menu, because the pre-built options all sound amazing. You can also build your own. The vibe is fast-casual and it's perfect for getting a quick pizza fix. The service we got was very friendly, but once you order it's mostly self-serve. They do bring your food out though. We had the Magic Carpet Ride and the Costanza, as well as some spinach artichoke bites and everything was crazy good. read more

Sauce on the side is quite wonderful! From the calzones to the soda fountain we had a wonderful time even with our two small children. I enjoyed the unique sodas and tried the root beer, dark cherry, and Dr. P all which were flavorful and delicious. I had the cockadoodle noodle and enjoyed the buffalo butter to dip. I was super excited when I walked in and realized they have GLUTEN FREE calzones because I try to eat GF whenever I can! We were greeted promptly, all of our questions were answered and we placed our order. I ordered a GF Magic Carpet ride. My husband ordered the smokehouse salad and a Meet Me in St Louie. We shared the salad and both enjoyed it and our calzones were really good. The other thing that I really liked about this restaurant was that they offered glass cups for our drinks - no plastic!!! I really really want to like this place. So many family members like it and the place comes up with some fun combinations. I first tried this maybe 5 years ago (location in/near Eureka) and got their holiday special of turkey, mashed potatoes and cranberry with a gravy to add. It just wasn't good to me. We tried the Edwardsville location when in town this past Christmas and again, it just fell short. I did like the Pepperoni Basil Bite Sides, but that was it. Like I said, I really want to like this place and our family members that live in the area do, my husband and I said it was just meh. Great food! I had the Fatty B and asked them to hold the Provel cheese. In retrospect, probably should've asked them to hold the Ricotta, too, but it was still very good. I'm a "strictly mozzarella" guy. Excellent crust and fillings. I love the spicy marinara it came with. This is about the price (or less) of a small pizza at most pizzerias today and is worth it. It will most likely feed most adults or possibly two. I took half home and had it for later. I like the sodas - similar to what they serve at Hi-Pointe. Ambiance...well, there isn't any. Kind of the industrial chic which is popping up everywhere: Black ceiling, cement floor, small wood tables and metal chairs. Not a problem as most likely I'll get future orders to go. read more

This is not my first encounter with Sauce on the Side but it is at this location in Edwardsville. The food is delicious regardless of where it's at but the service here is exceptional. Greeted at walk in and visited several times at table to make sure we didn't need anything. They even offered to refill our drinks at the self serve fountains. The environment was very open and welcoming, you can see the folks in the kitchen making everything to order. I am a fan. read more

Excellent service. Host explained the menu, made good suggestions. Food is omg amazing. I had a Gonzo calzone - it was substantial, the crust gorgeously brown and crisp, the inside a mix of spinach, mozzarella, sweet onions, a little salami. We split a golden beet salad and both loved it - it would have been a meal in itself. The place is clean. The music is pleasant and not overwhelming - you can still have a conversation. My first order I got a Meet Me in St. Louis and added mushrooms but the calzone that was made only had mushrooms. Called the store since I already had driven home and they credited my account for the mishap and also offered to give me another one for free if I would give them another try. Tonight ordered the Meet Me in St. Louis and not only was the manager helping me extremely friendly and professional the calzone was fantastic. Not too salty, lots of cheese and meats and crust was soft. It was perfect and perfectly cooked. Will definitely go again. My husband loves the food too and always gets the Roasty Toasty.
