Sava Spa is thee best spot for mani/pedis. I started visiting a few years ago and never looked back. It is where I was introduced to Dazzle Dry (DD), my preferred nail polish system, and where I realized doing my nails can actually be relaxing. I really enjoy their intimate set up (only two nail stations) and the biggest pro for me...no acrylic/chemical smell. They also do hair, facials, waxing, and massages, though I haven't experienced these services. The Dazzle Dry manicure is $30 while the pedicure is a bit more at $65. The service is so meticulous and gentle, it takes a full two hours. Their technique is different than what I have experienced in the neighborhood and their service is consistent. It truly feels like you are getting pampered and my hands and feet look brand new everytime. Sava is such a treat and well worth the price. If you've never tried DD before, it's vegan and said to last two weeks without chipping. This is mostly true, but of course gel (which they recently started to also do!) is king when you are going to be super active and in water. DD is perfect for day to day, and Sava has an extensive collection of colors. The owner, Iwona, is a fantastic technician, as is Monika. Love them both, and catching up with them is always fun during my service. I look forward to continuing to support this lovely business and feel lucky to have them close for my nail care needs. Anonymous July 2024 I have been going to SAVA SALON for a little over a year. I only get a partial highlight and before I have it done I show the colorist about 10 pictures of the color I am aiming for a wheat ashy blonde. I have tried 3 colorists and I leave there every time with an orange brassy color. The Lighting in the salon is different from when you are outside. So I return with a complaint that the color I asked for ashy wheat blonde is brassy orange. The owner fails to accommodate or do a correction and she lacks people skills and Customer Service skills all she says and the colorist says is to use a Purple Shampoo, why do I have to do that if I am paying for a service and they are not providing me that at all. The owner is rude, as I only can spend a certain amount and she tells me people pay 200-300 to get their hair done here and she tells me you only pay 140 (so in other words she is telling me you get what you pay for) It should be about Quality not the Cost of how little or much you can spend. Last time I will ever go to there. Think twice before you go there unless you have a lot of money to spend. Their policy is to make money and not to care about the Customers. As in Business The Customer always comes First and to make them happy with the end results - NOT HERE!! I just would like to re-iterate the owner is rude and nasty. read more

Went here to get my nails done - a treat to myself. I have lived in the area for two years with my husband and always thought it would be a nice place to go - to support a local business. From the minute that I walked in, it was clear that my business was not wanted. I needed to say hello twice in order to be acknowledged by the individual behind the counter. I made it clear that I was looking to get a shellac manicure. She seemed surprised I had even brought up the idea, but went ahead to write down in information and told me to come back shortly. I kindly accepted and went about my day. Upon return, the nail technician showed me the color selection and told me to pick a color. After reviewing them for maybe thirty seconds, she returned to ask me what I was looking for. I explained a warm off-white and that I was looking to do a shellac manicure. She quickly said that she did not do those and I should just pick a color. I explained that on the website shellac manicures are listed and that I had confirmed this specific treatment when I made the appointment. She quickly dismissed this, explaining she does not do them, and again pressured me to select a color. Being met again with this response, I kindly excused myself to leave as this was not the service that I was looking for. Not a word was said to acknowledge my response by her or the individual behind the counter. I left with an overwhelming sense of defeat. I understand that it may seem off-putting to some that a man would want to get his nails done. However, this is not a reason to treat a customer the way that they did. I am disheartened. The year is 2023. We live in New York City. Please do better. read more

BEST Blow-out and shiny, glossy hair color by Violetta - very happy lady! She works efficiently, too!

I went to Sava Spa today for the first time, and left very relaxed and satisfied. Iwona, the owner, is very nice and professional, and scheduling my appointment was easy. The atmosphere is casual, cozy, and trendy, and although it isn't cheap, I felt the experience was definitely worth it. My massage with Linda was great. I told her where I felt I needed the most attention, and she made all the tension disappear. She was the perfect mix of firm and gentle, and this is coming from someone who likes a solid amount of pressure. While I do wish that more time was spent on certain areas, I know that other parts of my body genuinely needed the extra few minutes of body work. We discussed breathing techniques, how to release tension, and various other health and wellness tips, but I spent most of the time just zoning out. Violet is an excellent hair stylist!!! She is hard to get (I believe she's only available here on Thursdays and Fridays, but it's worth it!!) The place is quiet, as a spa should be. I was led to the back room where I explained to Violet that my damaged hair was in need of a new, healthier look. I showed Violet some pictures and she went straight to work. She's very sweet and courteous and gave me a haircut that made my hair not only look significantly healthier, but she managed to do it without cutting off half my hair. I read with great interest the other rave reviews of Sava Spa and I am afraid I do not concur. I did not have a pedicure, wax or facial, so I cannot comment on those services - perhaps they are transcendent but the manicure was only fair -- in fact, several notches below ones that I have received in much less pricey places. The charge for their manicure - $30!!! - rivals the prices I have paid at spas in luxury hotels and for that fee I was crammed into an uncomfortably small space (barely enough room to get in and out from behind the service table) and was forced to listen the manicurist and client right next to me, conversing really loudly in Russian the the entire time of my service. Relaxation factor zero! The front desk was not warm or welcoming -- actually, the receptionist was kind of snotty. So not what I expected. The boutique items at the front of the shop were lovely, but alas, not what I was interested in. I won't be back. read more

I live right around the block from Sava Spa. My husband decided to purchase a gift certificate for a massage there. He gave it to me as a gift last Christmas (2018). I finally decided to use it this past weekend. When I arrived at the spa, on time, I was told that the massage therapist was running late. That was fine. I could wait. Then I learned that the heat had gone out in the building. It was pretty chilly inside. When the massage therapist finally arrived I waited another 15 minutes before being led downstairs. The massage was great. Linda was amazing. I was truly relaxed and she was incredibly attentive. When the massage was over I went upstairs to pay using my gift certificate. The woman behind the desk, who was the owner, took my gift certificate then looked up at me and said, "This has been used already." I was shocked. I had not used the certificate. If I had, I would no longer be in possession of the gift certificate. I explained to her that the certificate had not been used and asked if she could please check again. She went on to say that someone (meaning me) had changed the purchase date because the ink was smudged. I told her that I hadn't done anything to the certificate. I also pointed out the expiration date wasn't until December 19th, 2019. She said it didn't matter. Then she claimed that my husband purchased the certificate in 2017. He definitely did not. At this point, I was very uncomfortable. The entire relaxing massage I just had was thrown to the wind. I was no longer relaxed. I asked her to look me up in her computer so she can see which services I had had in the past. I always go here for bikini waxes. She could see my past services but kept insisting that I had used the certificate. She finally found the information about the certificate in one of her folders. The dates were correct. She did not apologize. She did, however, keep insisting that the certificate was used. Then she looked up at me and said, "Oh well. Our loss." I told her that it wasn't her loss and that my husband had paid for the certificate. She then, very sarcastically said, "I hope you enjoyed your massage." I told her I had, but it was the last one that I would ever be getting there and that I wouldn't be coming back. Ugh. Ten minutes after I left, she called me and told me that she had found the mistake and that everything was fine and that I shouldn't be upset. Really. After all of that, they owe me a massage. What a shame. What a terrible way to treat a customer. So, beware of using gift certificates there. I still wonder if it was a scam to get me to pay double for the massage. read more

My mom and I went here once to get manicures and pedicures - it was a present from her (and I guess to her, too). It was her favorite spot to go to for the occasional treat when she lived in the city. There's the whole song-and-dance about how the owner only used to do house calls to exclusive celebrity clients, which put me off at first, but once I experienced the quality of the services here and the way you are treated, there was no denying how special this place is. It's beautiful inside, so quiet and relaxing. If I had to make a complaint, it would be that the style is a little too over-the-top-luxe and interior design-y for me. But then again, coming here *is* a total luxury so it I guess it makes sense that it feels and looks like one. All the little details are there. They offer you tea, cappuccino, water, there are fresh flowers. No one rushes you, they do the best work ever. If you can afford, it, I recommend this place, it's worth the money. read more

I came in as a walk-in to get a blow-dry and straightening done. I have 3b hair so I was expected to be turned away and not served. Earlier in the day, another salon on 2nd Ave refused to deal with my hair because it wasn't relaxed. I was not disappointed at Sava! They treated me with utmost respect and kindness when I entered. The young lady in the front, Catherine, said I could be seen even though I didn't have an appointment. She was very nice. Lisa took care of my hair - she did not damage my hair and it ended up looking fabulous! My hair remained straight for nearly two weeks and it was pretty affordable. I go here pretty frequently for massages with Linda. She's amazing. She is very knowledgeable and I always leave feeling great. I get so much tension in my back and shoulders that it's really a problem. I don't know what I would do without her. I have also had highlights done once by Yolanta. She did a pretty nice job. I got a facial here one week before my graduation and it was literally the worst facial i have ever had in my entire life. First off all, I said at least 5 times that the massage, which I was also getting, must come before the facial. I explained myself, saying that it makes no sense and is counterintuitive to get a facial, or any "work" done on your face, and then immediately lie flat on your face and pressing it into another surface for an hour. My facialist said okay, then ignored me and began my facial. She was from Sweden and not a native english speaker, but what happened was unacceptable. I ended up paying for a facial, then pressing my skin up against a towel for an hour, ultimately leaving it with marks and all red, when it should have time to breathe. If you can't understand the customer, bring someone in who can interpret. And if you have noone working who speaks english, you should not be working in America. Beyond this, the facialist extracted my skin without asking if that was okay with me, at any other place you would always be asked. Additionally, she did an astonishingly bad job at the extraction, leaving many impurities half extracted. She did not use a clear cut tool, she just messily moved around my face squeezing with her hands in different places then coming back, basically as a child would, and never finished with one area. I'm sure that if you are older and your skin has balanced out, or you have perfect complexion, this would facial would have been fine because your skin would theoretically be more durable. But for anyone else who has even a slight problem, whether that be dryness, oil, blemishes, etc., do not consider getting any work on your face done here. read more

I can say with all sincerity that Sava Spa is my new favorite spa in the city. It is a little gem where I go to feel pampered, and boy do they ever pamper. The staff is all extensively trained to perform facials, manicures/pedicures, etc. and they practice what they preach because one is more beautiful than the next! I had a manicure/pedicure that lasted 3x longer than any I've had at other salons .... and that was in the summertime! Hard to believe but they are so good that I actually started falling asleep while having my eyebrows done. I always leave feeling satisfied and beautiful. Included in your manicure is a perfectly concocted cappucinno, beautiful surroundings and you never, ever feel rushed. They take their time and pay attention to every detail. Additionally, they have recently added a very beautiful and carefully edited selection of clothing and jewelry. I never feel pressured to buy but am always counseled on the best way to care for myself. As a fellow entrepeneur I understand the cost of doing business and feel completely satisfied with the fees when I consider all that I get in return. I've been coming here for a few years for waxing, and they really know what they're doing. Iwona in particular is excellent. She's considerate, experienced and so efficient. Let's face it, when it comes to waxing, experience and efficiency mean a lot. I also enjoy the facials and skincare products, and occasionally pick out something from the small but elegant sampling of clothing and jewelry on offer. i am a natural blonde, and have impossibly fine and thin hair. I walked passed this place while shopping in my neighborhood, and went in to make an appointment. That's it, I am cutting my long hair I wear up in a bun everyday. My appointment was with Yolanta, and we discussed a few options and pictures I brought in. She suggested a "blend" of my ideas, and what she thought would be a good short cut to make my hair appear fuller and healthy. I am now on week two of my new hair, and I love it. Not like the many times I have been to get my hair cut, leaving and it looks great; only to get home and try to do it myself with complete failure. The cut (including shampoo and blowdry styling) was under $80. This is in line with the many salons I have been to in the past, so this was even better. They offer a pedicure for $65, which I will never do, knowing that I can get a mani/pedi for less than this downtown (or maybe it is something magical I need to experience !) but the prices for haircuts, waxing, etc are all reasonable. I have been living in Washington Heights for 3 years now and was on the hunt for a great salon. I'm not sure how I missed this spot for so long. I made an appointment and on the same day they fit me in that night. my appointment was with Violet and she was absolutely fantastic. I showed her a picture on my phone for inspiration and after she was done with my cut, we compared it to the picture, it was almost identical! i was very impressed with her skills. we also had great conversation about the neighborhood and I can't wait to go back. the spa is very quaint and a bit hidden, but definitely worth it. read more
