Mixed experience: skilled brows, awkward process…read more I read a lot of reviews before trying a new place, and this one had a very consistent theme: great results, not-so-great hospitality, and a bit of a strange vibe. I figured I was just going in for an eyebrow cleanup, so I could live with that. The location is in a street-mall style complex with a bunch of beauty suites. Parking is super easy, which I appreciated. The area itself isn't particularly well kept and feels more open, almost like a market-style setup--but that was pretty much what I expected based on the reviews. Before heading over, I called to ask about availability since I'm used to appointment-only systems (especially after living in CA and NYC). The phone interaction was... odd. I was asked how far away I was, told to call when I arrived, then to text my name. It worked, but it felt a little disorganized. For clarity: this is appointment-only, even if that's not super obvious online--definitely book ahead. Once inside, things moved very fast. I was immediately told to get in the chair, but there wasn't much interest in discussing brow shape or goals. I tried to show reference photos (of my own brows from before), but they were brushed off with "it's different for everyone" and "I know what I'm doing." No photos were really looked at. The service itself was quick, but very curt. No warmth, no consultation, very "next step, next step." I didn't love the initial result and asked for revisions. I had to be extremely specific and insist on showing my reference before continuing. By that point, some of the damage was already done, but the final result ended up being okay. The price was $15, which felt reasonable and comparable to what I've paid elsewhere. I do think she's skilled, and she even mentioned that next time would be much better--which I believe. It feels like she knows what she's doing, but doesn't enjoy listening or collaborating, especially with new clients. Bottom line: Good technical skill, fast service, very rough around the edges. If you're confident, very specific, and already know her style, you'll probably be happy. As a first-time client, though, it's a challenging experience. Go in knowing exactly what you want--and be prepared to speak up.

The vibe of the place was all over the place, she seems to maybe be in transition since there were boxes everywhere. Pricing she told me a price when I had told her it was for two people and I assumed she understood I was asking her how much it would be for both but after the service she clarified the price was per person not both. She didn't seem to be listening she was rushing all over the place between prior clients and us waiting for her in the outside waiting area... Best practices would be to make that (the price) clear prior to the service that way the customer can make an informed decision.

I've never bothered much with my eyebrows, despite a vague realization that they really could use…read moresome tidying up. When I first heard about "threading" a couple months ago (yep, I'm so with it), I had the mental image of someone taking a needle and thread to my eyebrow hairs to weave them together into some sort of nice shape. This is how clueless I am when it comes to eyebrows. Sooo...after reading rave reviews of this place and finally getting the nerve to experience this "threading" stuff, I called Jamila, who was able to book me an appointment two days later. An hour after speaking with her, she called back and said she'd had a cancellation, would I like it? Would I ever! How nice of her to call back. I dashed out to Carrollton to find Radiant. TIP: It's located at the southeast corner of Josey and Jackson, facing Jackson. Hard to find unless you know that. Look for the Blockbuster on the corner. ANOTHER TIP: Her name is pronounced "Jah-mee-lah." Poor woman probably gets called something different every day, but she was very polite in correcting me. As soon as I was settled in the procedure room, the first thing Jamila said to me was, "Your eyebrows are too light." She then horrified me by penciling in what they should look like. Granted, this is what every woman WITH A CLUE's eyebrows look like, but it's a big change for me. I compromised with her on doing a slightly lighter shade for the tint (which I hadn't even been planning on until she made me realize how bare and ugly my eyebrows au natural looked). The tint turned out to match my hair PERFECTLY, and I'm very happy with it. I'm going to invest in an eyebrow pencil now. What is this world coming to?! Anyway, she then proceeded to do the threading, which was painful, yes, but not as painful as I'd heard. I do have high pain tolerance, so that probably helped. She listened carefully to my request not to make my eyebrows too thin (I like the distinctiveness of my slightly Brooke-Shields-esque brows). They're not shockingly different from what they looked like before, just slightly more polished and darker (thanks to the tint). Next time, I might be more brave and go for a bit thinner and a bit darker. But I need to work up my courage for that. Best part of the whole thing? The tint ($10) and shaping ($10) were ridiculously affordable compared to pretty much anywhere else I looked. And it was super quick and relatively painless (once I got over the initial heart attack from seeing my eyebrows so dark). I may have just started a new beauty regimen. Who am I?! Next stop: find a shrink to help me deal with the changes in my life. Aaahh!!
