I've never bothered much with my eyebrows, despite a vague realization that they really could use some tidying up. When I first heard about "threading" a couple months ago (yep, I'm so with it), I had the mental image of someone taking a needle and thread to my eyebrow hairs to weave them together into some sort of nice shape. This is how clueless I am when it comes to eyebrows. Sooo...after reading rave reviews of this place and finally getting the nerve to experience this "threading" stuff, I called Jamila, who was able to book me an appointment two days later. An hour after speaking with her, she called back and said she'd had a cancellation, would I like it? Would I ever! How nice of her to call back. I dashed out to Carrollton to find Radiant. TIP: It's located at the southeast corner of Josey and Jackson, facing Jackson. Hard to find unless you know that. Look for the Blockbuster on the corner. ANOTHER TIP: Her name is pronounced "Jah-mee-lah." Poor woman probably gets called something different every day, but she was very polite in correcting me. As soon as I was settled in the procedure room, the first thing Jamila said to me was, "Your eyebrows are too light." She then horrified me by penciling in what they should look like. Granted, this is what every woman WITH A CLUE's eyebrows look like, but it's a big change for me. I compromised with her on doing a slightly lighter shade for the tint (which I hadn't even been planning on until she made me realize how bare and ugly my eyebrows au natural looked). The tint turned out to match my hair PERFECTLY, and I'm very happy with it. I'm going to invest in an eyebrow pencil now. What is this world coming to?! Anyway, she then proceeded to do the threading, which was painful, yes, but not as painful as I'd heard. I do have high pain tolerance, so that probably helped. She listened carefully to my request not to make my eyebrows too thin (I like the distinctiveness of my slightly Brooke-Shields-esque brows). They're not shockingly different from what they looked like before, just slightly more polished and darker (thanks to the tint). Next time, I might be more brave and go for a bit thinner and a bit darker. But I need to work up my courage for that. Best part of the whole thing? The tint ($10) and shaping ($10) were ridiculously affordable compared to pretty much anywhere else I looked. And it was super quick and relatively painless (once I got over the initial heart attack from seeing my eyebrows so dark). I may have just started a new beauty regimen. Who am I?! I got my eyebrows threaded and loved the way it looks. Threading is so much better than waxing for me as it doesn't irritate my skin nearly as much as wax. I was impressed how small, yet professional the business was. I really thought I was walking into a typical nail salon but noticed they provide a lot of different services, including facials, laser treatments, massages, etc. The price for threading was only 5 bucks and the woman who did it did an amazing job. I am definitely coming back here. Tip: Credit card for $20 minimum, otherwise bring cash for threading. read more

I hate to knock Radiant Skin Care Spa (especially Jamila) a star, but having been an avid waxer for years, I was surprised to find that the second day after my first waxing in months I had stubble. I will give Jamila mad props because she's willing to not charge me for another waxing appointment this week to correct the problem. I really wanted to think better of this place than some of the reviews, but....it wasn't meant to be. I have been looking for a place in the Carrollton area to go for regular chair massages, and thought this might be it. They advertsise on their website that they can do either chair massages or neck/back massages, so I called hoping for an appointment. The woman who answered the phone said she wasn't sure if they could do it, and took my name and number. She asked me what time I wanted to come by and how long of a massage I wanted to get. Then she said that she would call me back if they could do it. The time came and went, but no call back. Too bad and very sad. I guess they don't need the regular business I was willing to give. I still haven't gotten a call, and am pretty sure I won't get one. I have since taken my business elsewhere. read more

So, I knew I was going to be at a lake for almost a week. And I knew I might actually enter that lake. In a bathing suit (don't worry, I was going to be with family, who are therefore contractually obligated to still love me). In hair removal, as with most things, I'm basically a DIY girl. But I had tons left to do before we left and I was letting myself get stressed out over it all... and hellz NO I wasn't goin' down the waxing road by myself the night before I left, all contorted and sticky and doing crazy things with one leg on the side of my tub and one on the toilet lid. NO. I needed a sanity break. So, with Monica's glowing recommendation and the realization that they're within lunch break distance, I called Radiant Skin Care. There was an appointment available later that afternoon - yay! First, Jamila is awesome - very friendly and warm, softspoken and yet definitely knows her stuff. She worked for a doctor's office (derm, I think) and another hair removal-focused salon for years & years before starting her own place. Finding a new waxer is a delicate thing; you're starting a relationship with someone who may be on not just first-name basis, but nickname basis with your girly bits someday... well, you experience caution, hope, a little giddiness, performance anxiety - just like finding true love. It's lunch, so I have enough time to just do the basics: half leg, please. Well, as we begin talking, her bionic hair-spotting eye lands (dodododooo) on my eyebrows. They're not too crazy, but she does note that they're weirdly lighter toward the ends than they are toward the middle (true). She asks if I want to tint them... eh, sure. I'm going to be 100% makeupless for a week, sounds good. Shaped the heck out of them too... hello, threading! Damn, that is one efficient hair-removal method, little baby fuzzies and all. She also gave me a few long-term pointers to make the shape even better. Sweet. Tint applied, she moves on to my legs. Fuzzy fuzzy legs... I'd known I was going to wax, so I was READY. Lower legs is a pretty basic wax job, and she's got good hands - she's quick, she doesn't yank, and she's personable. Not too talky, but nice conversation. I'm always convinced that I'm the hairiest person ever, so points for not making crazy faces or saying "OH MY GOD!" at any time. Not that anyone ever has, but still. Is that a weird judging criteria? :D Also, as she's working, she explains things that I, as a waxing client, should know - how to maximize the effectiveness of the waxing, how often to come if you want the follicle to eventually just give up and play dead, answered my random electrolysis question thoroughly and with visual aids. She's very knowledgeable, but not preachy. Here's where it gets good: she gets done waxing... and starts threading for the itsy-bitsies. Feel, find a hair, thread. Feel, find another few, thread another spot. All over, until she can't get anymore (oh, and she also does the top of your feet and that one random toe hair weirdness that everyone has... you haven't lived until you've gotten the *pop* as that toe hair yields to the thread. YOW.). THEN COME THE TWEEZERS. Seriously. Woman is meticulous. And this is just my legs! Think how shiny and dazzling your nunu could be... I'm picturing that little sparkle that the Orbit gum lady gets on her teeth. Ting! Well, just one little glitch - the tint was a little dark on my brows. No big, my brow hairs just sucked it up, she didn't charge and apologized that I didn't love it. Totally fine with that, stuff happens. Terrific job overall, and so very reasonable! I did the $30 half leg, but the website says $45 for full leg plus bikini! Brazilians are only $40. Dang. Although lunch-hour limitations didn't allow having her get all up under the hood & up in my biznezz this time, she'll be my gal when it's time. First date was successful; I figure she sees the goods by #2. #3, tops. I'm such a hussy. read more

How intimate do I want this review to be? I've never gone anywhere to take care of my needs south of the border before. But I have an upcoming trip to Mexico and I decided, what the hey, lets give it a go. I'm a bit early but I didn't want to do a wax and have it affect me negatively before leaving so I decided on a test run. I had a pool party on the Fourth so it was a good way to see what would happen. I was fit in for an appointment the same day I called. Don't use the map attached to yelp as it is actually several blocks north. Looking for the blockbuster actually helped me out in my quest. So a bit uncomfortable, but after stripping the bottoms and laying up on the table with a towel covering my lady parts, Jamilia came in, moved the towel and talked to me some. I should have been more self conscious but something about her made me feel at ease. I was basically naked in front of a stranger, yet it felt ok. She explained what she was going to do and went to work. Effing A, waxing hurts like a bia, but not as much as I thought it would. My back started sweating and my jaw hurt from clenching but I survived the ordeal. Jamilla was good to ask me how I was doing and to tell me we could slow down if I needed. She went at me with some tweezers in between waxing strips and that hurt more than the wax pulls. Waxing is trickery b/c at first the warm goo feels kinda good and then when it's ripped out it hurts like hell. Now, a few weeks after the ordeal, I'm glad I went. Results last a pretty long time! I'm pleased and I look forward to my next appt in a weird way. Brazilly was 50 before tip which I guess is reasonable. For a first timer, I think this was a legit experience. read more

I'm not sure this place even deserves one star, but my bf did like his massage here. However, my experience with this place was pretty terrible. I had a bikini wax here along with a facial. When we first arrived, we had to wait about 10 minutes for my bf to get his massage started -when we are paying for a 60 minute massage, that is not professional. 15 minutes later, I was brought into another room, but had to wait another 15 minutes for Jamila to come inside. I waited HALF AN HOUR for my wax. When she came in, she was quick, which was nice, but part way through, I noticed a hair that was NOT MINE on the bed I was on.... THAT IS SO GROSS AND UNSANITARY.... Definitely unacceptable. Then we moved on to a facial in another room. The room was incredibly cold, so I was freezing during my treatment. She gave me a free chemical peel since I waited so long for my wax, but whatever she gave me in my facial made my face burn both during and after the treatment.... Your face should not burn during a facial. Idk what kind of chemicals she was using. Then, the extraction was horrible. I've never had such a painful extraction in my life. I was bleeding afterwards which gave me scars on my forehead. Unbelievable. Finally, she told me to use antibacterial cream for my face to help prevent cosmetology. Now... as a future medical professional, I feel I can safely say that using antibiotic whatever is not a good idea. The overuse of antibiotics is what leads to fungal infections and drug resistant bacteria like MRSA. But to make matters worse -the "antibacterial cream" she recommended to me wasn't even an antibacterial. It was some form of cortisone - a steroid, also something that you shouldn't just be using arbitrarily on your face. Not only will daily extensive use thin your skin excessively, it will also compromise your immune system. NOT COOL, especially for someone who is supposed to be a certified cosmetologist. All of that is certainly not worth the 4$ eyebrow threading. read more

So, I came here because of all the reviews. SO WORTH IT. I've paid a bit more for a Brazilian that turned out this well. I'm highly pleased. Jamila is so nice and made me feel so relaxed. She really knows what she's doing and how to make you feel comfortable. Are you considering a bikini or Brazilian wax? Don't mind driving to Carrollton? This is totally worth it. She also asked if I wanted my eyebrows cleaned up. I've resorted to plucking on my own, because I have easy-to-manage brows and every waxer I've been to totally goes overboard. My brows look natural and clean. I had her thread them. I made an appt with little notice and Jamila fit me in that same day. You really can't beat that. The Brazilian and the brow threading was only $60. Zing! read more

With the help of Yelp, I found this place on my way home from work yesterday. It's hidden in the back of a strip center but I thought it was easy to find. Jamila took me as a walk in and took the time to ask me what I wanted my eyebrows to look like and how she could help me achieve that. Due to some sloppy work by another threading place, there are some areas that need to grow back. Jamila took an eyebrow pencil and filled in what they SHOULD look like and I was amazed at the difference. While she was threading, she'd ask me to look in the handheld mirror she gave me to make sure we were on the same page. When she was done, they were 100 times better than when I had walked in. She actually created an arch where there wasn't one and kept the fullness of my eyebrows. I was amazed at her precision. She also waxed my lip and chin and did a great job. I really appreciated that she had a floor fan facing the chair - it helped me keep my cool, figuratively and literally. (because let's face it, yanking hair off the face can be a little bit stressful) When all was said and done, she said my total was $15. Only $15! I've found my new face place! read more

I don't think I can say good enough things about Jamila and her salon. I have been going to her for over 8 years for brazillian waxing, and eyebrow and lip threading. Prior to going to Jamila, I went to about four other waxing salons - one in College Station, TX (two different people though), one in Houston, TX, and two in Coppell, TX. None of the others even came close to doing as good of a job as Jamila does. She not only makes sure that you know how to hold, breathe, etc. in order to make it as least painful as possible, but she is the most thorough of anyone else I have ever been to. After she is done with the waxing, she always goes in with tweezers to make sure to clean up any remaining strands. In addition, as other people have noted, she is awesome with eyebrows. I don't think you can find many people better than her. She points out where/how you should grow them out if necessary, but overall she just is so good about getting them into a wonderful shape. Plus, I really appreciate the fact that she does threading, as I think it makes you much less prone to breaking out than waxing. Finally, after 8 years of Brazillian waxing, I finally decided to do laser hair removal through Jamila. As with everything else she has ever done for me, she is great at it - extremely thorough, professional, and does everything in her power to make sure it hurts as little as possible. I don't care where you are in the Metroplex - I think everyone should be going here. I don't think you can find any better. read more

It had been awhile since I got my brows waxed and I was beginning to resemble a cross between Frida and Big Foot. It was time to get ripped! I decided to check out Radiant after the glowing review from Megan M. It is also nice that the location is approximately 3-4 minutes from my house. Jamilla is AMAZING! My brows have never been more lovely! She also showed me the places where I needed to let the brows fill in a bit. I'm a compulsive tweezer, so I obviously need to lay off for a bit. The prices are VERY fair. Be sure to call for an appointment. There are days where Jamilla works alone at the spa, so you don't want to be a walk in and have to wait forever. I made my appointment the morning before my afternoon appointment. After your appointment, be sure to celebrate your new glamorous brows by going to Fruitealicious on the other side of the strip mall. You can hold your cold treat against your newly waxed brows to calm down the swelling and redness! read more

Got a Brazilian here about a year ago...and it was painful as HECK! Jamila isn't using the hard wax like some other places I've been too, so it wasn't a very good experience, despite her encouragement and support. She did try to upsell me on the laser hair removal option---but I didn't feel comfortable going that route because of the terrible wax job. To be fair she and another staffer provide awesome brow threading services. But I won't be back for a wax job any time soon. read more

After my green tea mango tapioca drink I walked in and meet Jamila she was very welcoming. She gave me a walk through of what they offer and laid me down and went to work on my eyebrows. After a looooong search for a good place to get waxed, I finally chose this one after reading the reviews. I was uneasy since the last time I got a bikini wax, the lady took so much off--she might as well have given me a brazilian. I have VERY low pain-tolerance, mind you. Let's just say, that day felt like cruel & unusual punishment. I went to see Jamila, and all I can say is WOW. Getting your yahoo waxed is going to hurt no matter where you go, but Jamila takes it slow, is patient, and is very comforting... her character made it ALMOST painless. =) She is truly a professional and a gem to every girl who needs a wax. I also got my underarms waxed and my eyebrows threaded. She PLUCKED the little tiny hairs under my armpits (TMI) and was SO meticulous because she is a perfectionist at her job. Did I mention that she PLUCKED tiny hairs that she sees through her MAGNIFYING eyeglass thing she wears?! I've gotten my eyebrows threaded at other places before, but she did it so quick & easy, I felt NO pain and I was surprisingly not tearing up like I usually do. I highly recommend this place! My coworker and I purchased Groupons for Shellac manicures and after she went and got hers done first, I was a little nervous. She definitely didn't have glowing reviews after a somewhat amateur-looking manicure job so I didn't have high expectations to be honest. However, I left somewhat pleasantly surprised. If I could rate it 3.5 stars I would.. not quite up to a 4. You definitely need to call a few days ahead to book your appointment. It's a pretty small place, so they don't have many people. I decided to get a pedicure done too since I needed one and was there anyway - I had to go in on a Friday at 4PM so I could get both done at once. I was running a bit late and they called to check that I was still coming. The room for the mani/pedis is pretty tiny - two chairs and that's it. They don't have a huge selection of colors - maybe 20-30 colors of OPI, and 10 of Shellac? Once I picked my colors, they brought a bottle of water and sat me down. The lady who did my pedicure (I think her name was Maria?) spoke basically no English, and the girl who did my manicure was still learning English. I was in bad need of a pedicure and Maria was way more thorough than I expected her to be! She spent a LOT of time making sure my nail beds were clean, filing my nails to the right shape, and all the other lovely stuff entailed in a pedicure. It's probably one of the most thorough pedicures I've ever had. She didn't spend as much time massaging, but I think I preferred the thoroughness on the actual nails more. The girl who did my manicure was very nice and kept making sure my nails looked the way I wanted them to. When she was buffing my nails, she accidentally rubbed part of my skin too and I winced a bit - after that she kept telling me to tell her how she was doing. Overall not a bad experience - I think I'd go back for the pedicure, but it's definitely not the nicest spa you'll go to. read more

Excellent! I'm middle eastern and have some massive eyebrows. She practically studied my eyebrows, communicated very clearly on what needed to grow out and what needed to be cleaned up. She knew exactly what to do! I am very picky and usually find eyebrow stragglers that were overlooked by other threaders but she was perfect. Good pricing, and from what I could tell she takes the time to train people who work for her and she really makes sure they're good. She takes hair from the root- all of them -which was a little more painful than what I'm used to but that just goes to show that the others were not getting the hair from the root and that Jamila was threading hairs that were often overlooked. With threading you CAN break the hair instead of pulling it from the root- it all has to do with how good your technique is I did not break out or bleed or anything (which has happened to me before with other threaders). You do NOT want a bad threader. Very satisfied. I'll be going back for sure. read more

BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! BEWARE! I absolutely agree with the experience of the other reviewers who bought the Groupon. This is not a nail salon, and I feel like they used this as an opportunity to make a quick buck from people who would never return after the experience. My Shellac manicure (they used another brand on me) looked like a 5 year old did it and they had the nerve to charge me another $5 for the "french" white polish. What a joke. They only have two stations to do nails (pedicure chairs in the back), so being the third person getting my nails done at the time, I was seated in the lobby where an employee who clearly has very little experience doing nails gave me the worst manicure I have ever had. Not only that, but another girl in street clothes scooted her chair up right next to me to watch the whole horrible process go down. Maybe this is how they train their employees? She may (or may not) be licensed as a massage, facial or waxing specialist, but she is no nail tech. Or else not a very good one. She messed up so many times and kept putting more and more coats making it thick and chunky. There were even parts of my nail that had no polish. I felt bad about how frustrated she was getting and almost told her to just remove it all and we'd forget about it. I wish I had. Check out the photo I posted for proof. The owner said another employee called out, so maybe they had unlicensed (nail) people doing ours to get us out of the way since we were using Groupons. There were no licenses anywhere on display at the site, and no sterilization equipment either. Halfway through my "manicure" the other technician came and took the brush my girl was using and went and used it on my friend in the back. I had to immediately go to my regular salon to have my nails fixed. This place deserves no stars and I wouldn't recommend going here to anyone. Totally unprofessional and a complete rip off. If you still have a Groupon, save your time and (gas) money and go somewhere-- anywhere else. read more

I am amazed that the overall rating is only 3.5 stars. I absolutely love Radiant Skin Care Spa. I found the spa several years ago and went to see Jamila regularly for a brazilian wax while I lived in Dallas. I have only been here for a brazilian wax so I cannot comment on the other services but I have never been anything but pleased with my service. Jamila is very friendly and knowledgable about skin care. She provides quality service and is very meticulous. After completing the wax she will tweeze to get any smaller hairs that did not come out from the wax and even squeeze out ingrowns. One time I went to her to get a wax before a dermatologist appointment because I had a bump on my bikini line that I was not sure about. She immediately recognized that it was an ingrown hair, she got it out and saved me from visiting the dermatologist and paying a $40 co-pay! She is also extremely fast without compromising quality. She gets me in and out in less than 20 minutes. She will ask for your help holding the skin, which is really to your benefit because then it is not being tugged as much, which makes it a little less painful. read more

I was in search for a good facial place and all the reviews here are about waxing, so I called and asked for Jamila to see if she also does facials and she does! Then I told her about my problems and concerns, and after a brief discussion I could tell she knows what she's talking about, so then I booked a facial appointment with her the next day. Jamila customized an acne treatment for me and she did a great job extracting out the impurities. While extracting, she taught me how to take care of my skin and gave me samples to try out afterwards. The place is sort of clinic like and Jamila is very professional in everything she does. Did I mention I also had my brows threaded?? Prices are very reasonable and services are great. Highly recommended. read more

I have been coming here for 3 years now! Nothing beats the price or the service. Upon my first visit I was threaded by Jamila and Jamila told me my eyebrows were too thin for my face. She then filled them in and showed me what my eyebrows should look like and recommended that I grow them out. She was right! I look even better with thick eyebrows. Sita is my regular threader and she is sweet and amazing! Both Sita and Jamila do amazing work. They take there time with each client regardless of the wait. I give it 3.5 stars but gave a 4 cause of price!(: I came in today to get a microdermabrasion. The original price is $85 but there was a special for $65 (yay!). I wanted information on facials/dermabrasion because Im completely new, never done any "spa treatment" to my face. The lady (she's really dark- I think she's the owner) told me about it and was actually able to get me in that same day. I was excited. I went to the room, its clean and the table you lay on is comfy. Sita was working with me the whole time. She was really nice and made me feel comfortable. My skin is not the best (I have tan lines, stretch marks, etc. since you are naked from chest up.) when the owner came in thats when I felt uncomfortable. She kept talking about my chin hairs and how I need to stop shaving it (Im aware of that but I have too! Do you really think I wanna shave??) she kept going on about how I need to do laser (Ive done electrolysis - and I mention to her it may be hormonal so I'll talk to my doctor) she then points out my stretch marks saying "You must've lost a lot of weight" (flattering, but still dont do that.) Then she points out an age spot, wtf Im 22, are you serious?! The only good thing I heard was "your skins really nice" or "your skins not bad" (I forgot which one). I was just ready for her to leave.. then she mentioned my blackheads and to do extractions, I said Sure. She then showed me them.. Im very aware she's being nice and advising me of my skin conditions but if I wasnt aware would I be doing a microdermabrasion ?? After that Sita finished me off (thank God the owner had a client come in). She also threaded my brows and waxed my face.. All in all Im pretty pleased my skin does look better but next time I might just get a facial. SITA WAS GREAT. I tipped her $20 so my total was $100 (with tip) which is really good for what I got done today! I gave 3 stars because of the owner pointing out every flaw I had.. I get it. Im not perfect, yiu just wanna help but I don't have $5000 nor time to spend, worrying bout every fine line, stretch mark or age spot I have. read more

After walking around looking like a cave woman with a unibrow (and a mustache to boot) for about three weeks, I had decided to start looking (again) for a place to get my wax on. Now granted, I've gone into just some nail place and asked for a wax and they have practically scalped me. Plus after my last visit to an Arlington salon - I was very leery of going to another salon without a decent review. Oh the salons on yelp looked awesome, but I really didn't want to spend $35+ on a brow wax, plus I wanted more 'stuff' done and wasn't up to blowing $100 on removing hair. This is when I decided to just jump in with both feet and try a random salon close to my dog's daycare. I knew I was taking a chance...once again, but what is life with out taking chances. Plus I figured if it turned out bad, I could always turn to tattooing on some eyebrows. :-) God must have been looking out for me yesterday - because lo and behold - I have found my waxing home. SvetLana Stela is the bomb-digitty. I ended up having a bikini, brow, and lip wax....with tip $50. WHAT?!? Yep, that's right. Not only that - I was 15 mins late for my appointment and she STILL took me in. I do want to forewarn you - this woman takes her time...she is painfully slow, but she is thorough. I have never, ever been to someone who takes as much time and care as SvetLana. I was irritated at first, but after seeing the end result - I WANTED to give her $100! Just amazing. I've been waxing for almost 15 years and this woman is the best I've ever had. It's so worth the time and I almost felt guilty for just giving her a $10 tip. If you live in or around this area - GO. I'm telling you, you wont' regret it. This is one of those places that when you're done you think "I'm gonna YELP the HELL out of this place...but in a good way." It's so reasonably priced and the care she took was above and beyond any I've ever had. ( I think I said that already, so get the hint) read more

Be advised if you purchase a voucher for laser hair removal from this spa that they only treat very small (and I mean small) areas! Unless, of course, you want to pay more for a larger area. This spa is classic case of bait and switch and it turns my stomach that there is a place out there willing to be this bad and desperate! If all of the other services they provide are as bad as they treat you when you have a voucher, I would not recommend this place to a dog. From reading many of the other reviews, I think I chose correctly when I walked out and didn't even use my voucher. I just hope I can get a refund! Is Jamila really as good as the earlier reviews seem to suggest? OMG - YES SHE IS!! I went in yesterday to get my brows shaped and get a brazilian wax. She did my brows first and just like everyone else says she is a perfectionist. Combed 'em, trimmed 'em, threaded 'em, tweezed 'em until they were absolutely perfect. Next. she moved south for the brazilian. I'm not going to lie and say it didn't hurt, but it was the least painful waxing I've ever had. She really knows how to minimize the pain. She said she's been in the skin care business for a long time. I forgot exactly how many years .... I was kinda distracted at this point..... but I think it was more than 15 years. The coolest part was how she really educated me about how to care for the skin and follicles after the treatment to avoid bumps and ingrown hairs. This is definitely my NEW designated spot to get eyebrow threading done. The ladies are awesome, sweet, sincere, and detail-oriented. I use to make the drive out to Las Colinas to Shanaz Salon (They're superb!), but realized that that was an excessive habit on my part. The Radiant Skin Care and Spa is SO much closer to me...and offers inexpensive threading services. I have not utilized any other service with them besides threading. Please bring cash. Ever since I booked my flight to Texas back in March, I was excited to try Radiant Skin Care Spa for their Shellac manicure. The icing on the cake was that my friend had purchased a Groupon for me as part of my birthday present. So, basically, I was all hyped up to get my nails done, and in Texas, no less! Fast forward to the day of my manicure...my friends and I were running a little late, but we gave them a courtesy call. Once we arrived, we were led to the back and into this small space in the corner where there were two chairs. Not gonna lie--it all looked sketch. The manicure itself was the worst manicure I've ever had in my life. Seriously! One time, I was cut by a pregnant woman cause she trimmed too much of my cuticle, but this experience totally takes the cake! So anyway, my manicure took over two hours. Yes, over two hours! I had a flight to catch home and I was genuinely afraid that I would miss my flight--over a manicure of all things! The girl who was working on me took forever to get my old nail polish off, and made a mess of it as well! I had old polish all over my hands. When it came to trimming and shaping the nails, she was inconsistent. She only filed my nails when she felt like it. I initially spoke up and let her know, but I didn't want to be a complete beeyotch. Then, when it came to applying the polish, she applied bumpy coats. I'm totally OCD, so that's one of my worst nightmares. The girl also couldn't apply nail polish very well. I chose a dark purple color and she got it all over my cuticles. Everyone knows how hard it is to remove dark colors from the cuticles! Whenever she tried to fix it with a brush, she often overcorrected and removed too much polish, which would prompt her to apply some more polish. Such a frustrating experience! One upside is that the girl who did my nails was a really nice girl. It never felt awkward with her and she kept the conversation flowing. I just think she needs more experience. And, I loved that my mani lasted for about two weeks, but hated the way that my mani looked and the way it was executed here. They need a more welcoming space and a better selection of colors..I believe there were only 10 colors available or so. Boohoo, what a letdown. read more

My sister and I purchased a Groupon for a Shellac manicure.... Not a positive experience at all. As another reviewer mentioned, we were seated in the "pedicure area" which is basically a small area with two large pedicure chairs. We were instructed to select our Shellac polish (they only offer 10-12 colors/options). After I selected my color, my technician proceeded to squirt a little acetone into the bottle - I guess to make sure she had enough to polish my nails. We started with small chit chat... but the process was nothing like I expected. She had me soak my nails for a few minutes in some cold, soapy water. Then she pushed back my cuticles, but did not trim them. She said that with Shellac, it is recommended that you not cut/trim the cuticles.... I thought that was odd. Every time I get a manicure, my cuticles are trimmed. Then she started applying the polish. She didn't even paint my entire nail - the edges and tips of my nails did not have polish on them. When she was done - with the whole process - she asked if I like them (and seemed concerned that I might say "no") I told her that parts of each nail were not painted and that they just didn't look smooth. She was very annoyed by my reply and said that she would fix them. She then proceeded to add additional Shellac polish to the edges of my nails.... just made it worse. When we left, we complained to the manager and asked for a refund. He said refunds through them aren't an option since we purchased a Groupon. I ended up at my normal nail salon immediately after.... they were shocked and blown away at how horrible the Shellac manicure looked. They could tell that she "added" polish after the process - which they said should not be done. It's a gel based polish and it requires a specific process in order to achieve the results seen in the pictures/ads. I think this salon used the Shellac as a draw for new customers - and apparently- the succeeded by selling over 1000 Groupons... Truly, it's not worth your time. I had to pay get mine redone that same day because they looked so terrible. It looked like a 5 year old painted my nails. I do not think that their technician's - at least the one who did my Shellac - are even trained on the Shellac process. If you want Shellac done the right way - go to a place you trust! Done the right way, it does not chip, crack, etc. At my normal place, they removed the bad Shellac job, buffed/filed my nails and trimmed my cuticles. Then, she had my wash my hands with a brush. Next came the first Shellac brand base coat, then another special Shellac coat. Then, she painted 3 coats of the Shellac color of my choice - they have over 25-30 options. Then the top coat and cleaning with the alcohol solution. My nails look amazing! MUCH better than they did when I left Radiant Skin Care... Like the other reviewer, I am interested to see how many negative reviews they receive since they sold so many Groupons. This salon does not have the Shellac supplies, the staff or the space to accommodate their customers. read more

I went to Radiant yesterday. I live in a small town where nobody does bikini-area waxing, so I researched bigger towns, looking for someone I could trust with such a... sensitive job. Nobody within an hour's drive sounded worth the trouble, so I widened my search to include Dallas and Houston, each of which is 3 hours away. Jamila won me over after reading about her here on Yelp, so I made an appointment, booked a hotel room, and made it an adventure! If you look up Radiant's address online, you won't get enough detail to find it easily, so it's helpful to know that it's located in a strip center, facing East Jackson Road. It's a little place, hardly what you'd expect after reading about how wonderful Jamila is; she's got such a following you'd think she'd be located in one of those fancy spas at the Galleria. But fancy trappings aren't what matter to me; quality care is, and that's what I got at Radiant. I went for a Brazilian, and it was my first time to get anyone else to do it for me. I've done it myself in the past, and while I like the benefits, it's just too difficult to keep it up, even with help from my husband. Let me just say that choosing a person for this job was incredibly important to me - I am a sissy when it comes to pain, especially there! I'm not especially modest, but I do have body-image issues like so many other women, so I was dreading having someone look at me. Jamila made me feel so comfortable. She was respectful and understanding, asking and answering questions along the way to make sure I was satisfied with her work. I can't believe how LITTLE it hurt, compared to when I've done it myself!! I am usually off-limits for 2-3 days after I wax myself, but not this time - without going into too much detail, I'll just say that my husband has already proclaimed Jamila to be worth the money and the 3-hour drive. If I am willing to drive 3 hours every few weeks to GET there, and another 3 hours to get home, then you must believe me when I say that Jamila is THE person for the job. Side notes: I also got my eyebrows and upper lip threaded while I was there, and I am very happy with that experience, too. My daughter came with me, and she had a manicure/pedicure - the girl who worked with her was also very personable and sweet. Overall, I feel like I've discovered a treasure, and while I'd love to keep it to myself, my momma taught me to share, share, share. :) read more

I have eyebrow waxing/threading horror stories out the wazoo! I was reluctant to try yet another new place after ending up with pencil-thin eyebrows, but the reviews of this place couldn't have been more right! First of all, the environment is very welcoming, and calming. Congenial desk staff, and my appointment started right on time. They clearly know how to make their clients comfortable: I was lead back to room with a comfortable bed-style chair covered in a soft sheet. (Nice change from the usual tipping my head back in a salon-style chair with no head rest!) And to keep things sanitary they put medical paper behind your head. Someone mentioned Jamila having a very mothering quality, and they couldn't have been more right! She patiently listened to how I wanted my brows to look and was understanding of my reluctance after a bad waxing experience. She has fantastic threading skills--slightly painful yes, as all threading is, but it was probably the quickest and least painful experience i've ever had. She also gave me some tips on how to fill in the more sparse areas on my brows, and without attempting to up-sale me on any products/tinting demonstrated how to make my brows look fuller with an eyebrow pencil while I held up a mirror and watched. Not to mention it was a very reasonable price for the service! It's definitely tucked back in the strip mall where it's located, so keep your eyes peeled for it! Excellent value and service! I've been seeing Jamila for more than 4 years now (Just moved back into the area, so regularly the past year) and there is still no one better for your brows. I've tried them all from Colorado to Nevada and back, and she is still the most meticulous person I've met. I always leave with great shape and definition and a tint that keeps me free from a brow pencil for about 2 weeks. She doesn't just wax-- she waxes, threads, tweezes and cuts. Whatever it takes to leave you as hair-free and happy as possible. She's also the one that convinced me (and got me hooked) on brow tinting. She does an excellent job (although they will be a bit dark the first day or two) and I trust no one else with this task. I have no experience with the other services offered here, but I have tried some of the other girls that work there for brows and will stick with Jamila. While they weren't bad they weren't as awesome as her. You also can't beat the prices. read more

Went here today because I bought a groupon for eyebrow threading. The lady made them way too thin and when it was time to pay I asked if they had wifi because I was having a hard time pulling up my groupon because I had bad phone service in the area and she simply replied everyone else had no problem pulling theirs up so I just said I would pay with my card but they dont let you use your card unless its over $20 so i had to go to the albertsons and get cash back from them. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is because the receptionist lady was very polite and helpful. read more

As per the other reviews...DON'T go here for a manicure. (I had the shellac groupon) Sweet girl but just can't do nails. I have oddly shaped nails with a bad paint job now. Also, I got my eyebrows threaded (for $7) and when I went to pay they told me I couldn't use my card because it was under a $20 purchase. I showed them my wallet literally had no cash in it so the first suggestion was to send me a nearby ATM. Then they said I could just pay an EXTRA $10 to use my card. WOW. They went and "asked the owner"....I used my card for $7. read more
