We had several very large trees trimmed in our backyard -- two oaks and a redwood. The service was excellent, including the initial consultation, the communication with the arborists, the arborists' work and the care of the site. The trimming was carefully and artfully done. Done when they said it would be, with no damage to surrounding plants or structures. Second time we've used them. Same thing the first time. read more

It's hard to complain about a free service, and to be clear this review is for their mulch delivery only. I have had them tend to trees and they did a fine job. This winter I signed up for a mulch delivery and despite speaking directly with the driver about the contents of the mulch, who assured me that it was mostly hardwood with a "little bit of pine", when I found the mulch delivery it was almost entirely pine needles. When I contacted the company about what to do with it, I was advised it would cost me $150 to get rid of it. read more

It's hard to find a reliable and reasonably priced tree service company. I went through many different companies for quotes. Some were very efficient in responding and some were booked far in advance. In terms of pricing, I had a variety of pricing. Surprisingly, I did not expect Traverso would be the cheapest out of all my quotes. One of my neighbor recommended Traverso and a lot of other people have recommended this company. Some things that really stood out for this company is their responsiveness. So I don't like making a million phone calls to schedule appointment. Personally, I like to do every electronically so if I can do most of the communication via e-mail, that'll be great. Well, that's what happened with Traverso. They had a e-mail/contact us on their website so I contacted them and I was impressed with their timely response. This company is definitely busy and is booked out far in advance. When I contacted them, their earliest quote was almost 3-4 weeks out. But I am glad, I was in no rush. Once I received the quote, I was satisfied and decided to go with them. They did a good job and was efficient. They were also very open to my questions and any concerns during the job if I wanted something addressed. Another thing I like about this company is how easy it is to pay my invoice. I can do it online via credit card, over the phone or the mail. I prefer to do all my purchases via credit card if possible and sometimes, some companies charge extra or prefer non credit card transactions but Traverso did not have a preference. Three guys came out and I was introduced to the foreman (like that right there blew me away). They had a boom lift and trimmed it from the top and the bottom. John and his team have been taking care of our seven liquid amber trees for years now. Unfortunately, we had to remove one a year or so ago because of its horribly invasive roots. And, just this month we had to remove a second because its roots destroyed our swimming pool (very quietly and without warning). Scott gave us a fair estimate and assured us that our needs would be met and our concerns about the tree's proximity to fencing and irrigation lines would be respected. A crew of four arrived on day one and addressed the total dismantling of the tree with surgical precision. They did a meticulous job of assuring that both our property and the neighbor's were free of debris. The following day two other folks arrived and did a truly expert job of grinding the stumps of the newly-removed tree as well as the stump of the previously-removed one. Again, both our yard and those of our two neighbors were cleared of debris. And, as promised, our fencing and irrigation lines were not disturbed. Two things impressed me greatly: 1. the tremendous support of the office staff and 2. the marvelous way the work crews work together and support each other. After the recent heavy rains in January 2023, Traverso came out 3 times to work on trees over my house and the 2 adjacent houses. The first time was to remove a neighbor's tree which had fallen on my house. They came out very quickly and within 2 hours all evidence of the fallen tree were completely gone! Traverso followed up with maintenance trimming appointments within the next 2 weeks for both sides' neighbors. I got to watch and interact with their crews at least 3 times during this time period and was impressed by their professionalism and hard working demeanor. In addition, they are really knowledgeable about getting the job done in the best, most efficient, and least costly manner. Finally, they trim trees in a very natural manner. A lot of branches and mass were removed, which means less leaves falling on my roof next fall. But the tree kept its natural shape and conformation. While they won't be as aggressive as other tree services, they preserve the overall look and shape of the trees. If you want a brutal topping job which removes mass instantly but will result in a weird-looking tree 5 years from now, Traverso is NOT the company you want. read more

I had taken some trees out a few years back before getting permission from the county and had to put in 17 trees to make up for it. So after the trees had a couple of years to establish I needed to have a certified arborist sign off on the tree health. After looking around on yelp for a while for a local arborist I found Traverso Tree Service. I called them up and was able to schedule an appointment quickly and easily. They asked me to send 2 pictures of each tree so they could look over the pictures before coming out and then came out on site to check the trees out in person. I got some great helpful tips on how to keep the trees healthy and stake them properly and the arborist, Jennifer, was very friendly and explained things well. Very, very expensive for the amount of work they did. I had one of their arborists come to give me an estimate on pruning my fruit trees; there are about 20. Some are only a couple years old, so they are little more than a stick with a few branches. Some are well established and needed a heavy hand. I received an estimate for $60 per tree...gasp...but figured it would even out between the new trees and the older ones. The crew of 3 trimmers came and spent 1 1/2 hours total pruning them (total of 4.5 man-hours). They still wanted the full charge, but I negotiated a 10% discount...all they would give. Over $1000 for 4.5 hours of work. Boy, was I taken to the cleaners on that one. read more

Unbelievably bad tree trimming. They threw large branches down onto our landscaping, damaging bushes and breaking branches off our Japanese maple. While I was stopping the guys in the front yard, the guys in the backyard sheared large branches off the trunk; removing one whole side of our oleander tree. They were supposed to trim it at the top to keep it away from the house. Now it looks like half an umbrella. It will never grow back into a tree shape. I stopped them about halfway through. Clearing the debris, they did more damage stepping on plants and shifting rocks off our dry stacked walls. I have not heard a word back from the company about this. I sent pictures and texts, spoke to the receptionist, I have not paid them, and I sent the workers away with the work half done. Not a word about how they will rectify this. Update: I heard from the Operations Manager, Scott, yesterday. It doesn't mitigate the damage but I appreciated the follow up. read more

What a pleasant experience, having Reese ( arborist/estimator) visit. I anticipated the usual upsell and other BS from merchants--but NO! He was informative, right on time, called ahead, reviewed our tree ( and others on the property), gave me a range of estimates, but recommended we do nothing. I was flabbergasted. He was attentive to the surroundings, the ecological benefit of leaving a dead tree in place, the advantage of nesting spots for birds and bees, and the artistic merit of what was already in place. Traverso exceeded our expectations with professional, efficient, fast, friendly, responsive service and great clean up...all at a great price. We're revitalizing our landscape from 45+ years of neglect by previous owners. Traverso trimmed a huge liquid amber, counseled us on the status of our trees so that we could make an informed decision about what to get rid of, removed several trees and many more stumps. They even were quick to come back and remove a couple of stumps that were hiding in the ivy that they missed the first time -- and hauled off a previously removed giant stump that we weren't sure how we were going to get rid of. I also found out they deliver free wood chips for mulch. Our friends and neighbors can't believe how different our house looks with the old overgrowth gone. Now we are looking forward to filling in the bare spots with new trees and plantings. We've still got an Oak, a couple of Liquid Ambers and some other trees that I'm sure will need attention again at some point and Traverso will be our first call. read more

These folks have some really good points: Reliable communication. Came when they said they would. Efficient and thorough removal of trees. Left the yard cleaner than they found it. Pleasant to deal with. Less great: I called them specifically to have my yard replanted with fruit trees. The arborist came out and gave us an estimate for said fruit trees and never mentioned that the folks at his company rarely deal with fruit trees and don't know much about them. This is doubly frustrating because we asked him to advise on our current fruit trees, and he did so (without mentioning that these aren't trees he knows much about). When we later called out an expert from a tree nursery, we got rather different advice. We only found out about the lack of experience when I asking for advice on which fruit trees grew well in the area (after removing the existing trees) and got an "I don't know." They also had to come out three times for a one-day job. First time, they didn't bring the stump grinder. The second time, they didn't communicate with each other and missed a few stumps. That said, whenever they came out, they always did so within the time window they promised. So, all in all, things were fine, and it wasn't a disaster, but go to a nursery if you want to plant trees. read more

They came by today... and I was impressed by their professionalism, knowledge, and most of all, their honesty. I have several huge oaks behind my house leading down a steep ravine. The one closest to my deck seemed increasingly to be leaning to one side and had begun to first abrade, and finally break the railing on the deck. I thought the tree might be in danger of falling, so on a friend's recommendation I called these guys. The bottom line for my huge oak is excellent news. The tree is completely healthy and the movement into the railing of the deck was not caused by the tree sagging, but by the natural growth in girth of the tree (3+ foot diameter). He found the root system to be strong and well placed, and his only recommendation was to clear out the duff at its base every year instead of the every 2-3 years I've been doing. The guy who examined the tree had a chance to sell lots of work to me ranging from cabling the tree to one its mates, building a steel on concrete support for it, radical limb surgery to reduce the weight pulling it to the side, etc., etc.. Instead, he recommended doing nothing- not even trimming. In these times when the economic downturn effects every business, I am so grateful to find honesty and professionalism. Service, Service, Service! I spent months receiving bid after bid on the work i needed in my yard. I must have received 4 or 5 bids on the work and for the most part, with one exception received comparable quotes for the work. So when price is the same how do you choose a tree service? For me it came down to who I trusted and like the most personally. Who I felt understood what was needed, told me straight up what they thought was needed. I struggled to make a decision as there were a couple that I liked but I felt John was the guy for the job. I'm glad I went with Traverso!. I have a large yard with many trees that needed attention. The guy's arrived on time, a large crew with John who took his team step by step through the entire project. The project was large. It took 3 or 4 trucks and 5+ guys from 9am to 4pm to finish. The guys not only executed exactly what John and I had talked about (almost 5 months earlier), They moved my outdoor furniture and lights to protect them and even put it all back!. Even Restrung the lights which is a major pain in the a$$. Simply put, Traverso executed exactly what was planned, on-time, on budget and went an extra mile or two IMHO. I highly recommend Traverso. The only thing I can say against these folks is the price: not cheap. But you can't scrimp when it comes to tree surgery. Would you go to a discount vet, a discount dentist? No way! Having got that off my chest, let me say how much I appreciate the customer service, the on-time appointments, clean, efficient workers, and generally no-nonsense vibe to their whole operation. They have worked on several of our trees, including a chronically ill Chinese Elm. You probably don't need to call these guys very often, but when you do, their work is fab. So, two parts to this process. Step 1 is get a bid. I did that and this review only pertains to the bid... The estimator showed up early and asked if it was ok to do it then and it was so I was pleased. He was very knowledgeable about the tree I needed pruned and gave me a lot of good info - Clearly a professional and an expert. Out of 5 bids I got (using only the highest Yelp rated in my area plus one other referred from a friend) they were the second lowest bid. The only reason I didn't go with them was they were already booked for the next 30 days. When Traverso came to my house to remove several trees from my hillside they had to lower my television cable. I only noticed after they had left that they had forgotten to unwrap some caution tape from the cable they had attached when it was lowered. The speed with which they came back to fix this simple oversight just proved what a great company they are!! The whole experience was great from the minute John came by to check out the health of our trees and give us an estimate for the removal of some of them to when they stopped by to remove the caution tape. Raphael came out for the bid (we received 3 bids; Traverso was the median priced bid) and we were impressed with his knowledge and suggestions. It took 2 days for Traverso to finish trimming/removing the trees on our original contract (and we only have 1/4 acre!) They also thinned 4 of our large and overgrown redwood trees, beautifully. After the 1st day, we requested some minor adjustments, which Raphael and his crew (6 total) did right away on day 2, without problem.
