Our "fancy dinner night" for our honeymoon that absolutely did not disappoint. Fortunately for us, we got a great table in the grotto, and we were warmly welcomed individually by all of the staff. Service from top to bottom was outstanding. Attentive without being overbearing. And then there's the food and drink. First off, I love red wine and once upon a time amassed a pretty legit 800+ bottle collection. They had gems from my cellar on the list! On an island in the middle of the Caribbean! What?! I've not seen Turley on a wine list outside of the mainland in a decade, for example. And they had 4 different Turley options. Including one by the glass. Amazing. The food matched everything that preceded it; simply outstanding and captured a sublime balance of island and haute cuisine. The Lazy Lobster crawled mercilessly into our bellies, melded with plush mashed potatoes and perfectly al dente asparagus and a delicate sauce. The Lamb Shank masterpiece, served over gnocchi and the most wonderful au jus, melted over the palate, delivering a resounding umami "whoa" tingle. Both paired beautifully with our wine selections. Dessert was a rum strawberry masterpiece, complimented by one of the best espresso martinis we've ever had, and a generous pour of Angel's Envy bourbon. One of the best meals of our lives, anywhere, and we've been to some of the best restaurants on the planet. Maybe it was the sea breeze, maybe it was kismet, but regardless, we loved it start to finish and highly recommend Savant. We're no idiots! read more

The ambiance has many things to offer. The front of house is an indoor seating area. It is very cozy, moody and intimate. Around the back of the restaurant is a covered outdoor courtyard with lush plants, a full bar, and lots of seating (extra points for the fans, the air circulation is phenomenal). Next the service. Impeccable. Every person that we encounter from the host, the bar tender and the waitress were so very friendly. I appreciated the recommendations that they had to offer on food and drinks (because everything looked so good). Some of the best service I've had on the island so far. Now finally, the FOOD!! You could tell it's was going to be good just from how the staff spoke about it. We had three appetizers (lobster egg rolls, ceviche, and calamari). Each were very unique and flavorful, great size for sharing, everything you hope for in good appetizers. For my entree I was torn between many different things, but with the help of staff I decided to go with the bacon wrapped double pork chop. And WOW I'm so happy I did. I always fear with pork chops of a dry, hard to chew meal but this was far from reality. The cut of meat was so juicy and easy to cut and chew. The flavor was fantastic. Cooked to perfection. For dessert I decided to go with a classic vanilla rum cake and it was perfect. If you can get a reservation for the patio/grotto area, do it. It's like a cozy jungle cave. We went for drinks and dessert in the pouring rain, and though we got a little misted from our table, we stayed dry under the canvas. The live plants and twinkle lights really add to the ambiance. Our server was polite, and though we had an issue with a martini being too weak, they tried to re-make it for us, no problem. I love their espresso martini (with added baileys/cream), and this place has AMAZING rum cake. Some of the best cake on the island- it's super dense and moist. We have been there for dinner as well, and the food is great, but priced on the higher side. You can always stop in for dessert and a drink, though. We sat in a covered outdoor courtyard that reminded me of a castle complete with torches and lights placed in alcoves imbedded in the "castle" walls. So romantic. My lazy lobster (taken out of the shell and cut into bite-sized pieces) was bathed in a buttery sauce and served over mashed potatoes. Three perfectly-cooked spears of asparagus completed the plate. One in our party ordered a vermicelli seafood pasta and said the taste was superb. Two others enjoyed freshly-caught snapper over rice. Super delicious. Leading up to a visit with friends in St. Croix, much discussion centered on our trip being one of gastronomic indulgence. All our friend's hype about Savant did not disappoint. It was absolutely outstanding in every way and exceeded our expectations. We dined in the outdoor courtyard which was a treat for the senses. It is a rustic area bordered by brick walls and natural boulders, graced with giant philodendron and other arid plants, twinkle lights, and strategically placed fans which kept the area comfortable. Our server started us off with drinks, let us know what the specials of the evening were, and then returned to take our orders. There were four of us who enjoyed this evening of food and fun: one ordered the seafood vermicelli with a creamy tomato sauce that rivaled any Italian dish he had eaten while growing up in New York's Little Italy area and remarked that his dish may possibly have been the best vermicelli he has ever eaten. Two of us had the fresh snapper, encrusted and served over a bed of rice with broccolini as a side; I requested a ramekin of pineapple chutney that I added on top which boosted my selection to a divine level. The food here was excellent. We were looking for a place off resort while in St Croix and this place was a top suggestion from the concierge. It was a good suggestion. The service was excellent for our family of four. This was the first place we ate, and thought the prices were high. Then we realized they were comparable to all places in the area, or probably the full island. The atmosphere was really cool to be in. It felt unique. I'm mostly upset about the service. We were greeted with friendly faces and our table wasn't ready yet so we got a cocktail at the bar. The bartender was lovely. The vibe was great. We got our seats and everything changed. We were ignored for a long time. No one greeted us. Finally someone came around maybe 10 min after we were sat and asked "have you been greeted yet?". No. We ordered three appetizers. That's how hungry we were. And that's how much we were ready to drop on a nice dinner. The courtyard is so cute and the vibe is there. However we were the forgotten children. We were so thirsty and the water was never refilled not once. Finally after what felt like forever our dinner came. The worst part was everything was really good. I loved everything we had. And the vibe was so good. We just clearly weren't made to be the priority. Or even to feel like a commoner. There was a large table that got sat not long after us that were clearly high rollers. I think this was a big reason why we were forgotten. Big shame. Big expectations. Food was great. This was probably our favorite place to dine during our stay in St Croix. We sat in the open/covered patio in the back of the restaurant which was beautifully decorated. A+ ambiance. The staff was also very attentive. The food however was by far the best part of the night. The appetizers we got included the grilled calamari and then two specials including orange mahi ceviche and lobster egg rolls. It was all very good and would order all of them again maybe aside from the grilled calamari given it was a lot of seafood and that was probably my least favorite (albeit still good) of the three apps we ordered. I ordered the lobster dinner special which was delicious and a solid portion. My partner got the bacon wrapped pork chop which was massive. It was also very very good and probably the highlight of our entire dinner. We both tend to eat a lot and this might have been the first time we had a little difficulty finishing a meal, not complaining! Desserts were also great, we had the chocolate hazelnut mousse cake and the rum cake. Possibly the only note was that the drinks we had, the rum mules, left a little to be desired. When on vacation, finding great restaurants is a must. I found this gem and was glad I did. The food was off the chain. The table ordered lamb chops, lazy lobster, the lobster tail was removed and ready to eat. The restaurant is on the small side which allows great service and we got just that. The appetizers were likewise delicious and we ordered the grilled calamari twice because it was so delicious. We couldn't get enough. The atmosphere was lively, but also chill. Was very happy to be able to get in as a walk-in party of 2 (wouldn't recommend trying - call ahead!) We found the value to be much lower than the price. Expensive drinks, none of which we would go back for. The ahi tuna wonton chips were good but wish it had some avocado or jalapeño or something to add to the flavor a bit. The Asian noodles (would not call them lo-mein noodles...more like a wheat udon style) were tasty in a coconut broth but for $12 extra we got about 5 small pieces of chicken added to it. The cassava mahi was very much lacking in flavor, even with the coconut rice. Needed a vegetable or something. Great atmosphere, decent service, and the owners onsite but would likely not splurge here again. I took my parents to Savant tonight for their 56th wedding anniversary. This restaurant had good reviews online so chose this spot for our celebration. We had reservations and were seated right away upon arrival. Our server, Yvette, was friendly, professional, and charming. She took good care of us. We didn't order appetizers, we went straight for the main course. Our food came out in a timely manner. This restaurant is like a hole in the wall. The inside gives the feel of a rustic quaint French restaurant. It feels welcoming and has a beautiful ambiance. There is an outdoor courtyard dining area that also has a marvelous ambiance. We ordered Cassava Crusted Mahi, Churrasco Beef Short Ribs, New Zealand Rack of Lamb, and Chicken Savant Noodle Bowl. The Mahi was crisp, moist and flavorful; the coconut rice tasted good and was cooked well. The beef ribs and lamb were tender, moist, and delicious. All dishes were good but the chicken Savant noodle bowl was our least favorite. The chicken Savant bowl didn't have a balanced noodles to chicken ratio. It tasted okay but had a weird smell to it. The desserts were awesome! We ordered a slice of chocolate cake, rum cake, and coconut cream pie with toasted pecans. They were great portions and very tasty. This restaurant is pricey though, so you will pay moderately for all items ordered. I was especially surprised at the cost of the desserts; it was $15 per dessert. That caught me off guard. The ambiance and food along with the service received from Yvette made this visit worth it for us. My parents really enjoyed this experience. read more

Much of the dining area is outside in a shaded outdoor patio. They have amazing food (as you can see from the pics) with some very creative menu selections. I had the curry encrusted Mahi and a salad. Presentation and taste were top notch. In addition, the service is just as good as the food. When Marjan and I travel, we search as many sites as we can find, searching for most recommended restaurants. Savant was among the handful that were highly recommended in St. Croix. The restaurant is found in Christiansted, parking behind the restaurant, unpaved lot. There are two entrances to the restaurant, one for entering the patio dining area, the entry for this area adjacent to the parking lot. Should the guest elect indoor seating, the entrance is found on the main entrance on Hospital Street. Reservations were highly recommended, and we preferred the patio, but as we dined on a Monday evening, we noticed several empty tables and one couple was seated without reservation. The restaurant is of older construction, typical of much in the city. The patio walls are of natural, uncut rock, cemented in place, covered with ivy and other flora. Think "grotto look" to the patio. Over the area is a fabric "parachute" sheltering the dining and bar from the elements. There is no air conditioning, but for our visit, heat and humidity were not an issue. The floor is of cement, the tables and chairs of wrought iron. Lighting is muted, soft music playing over speakers, the ambience cozy. We were immediately seated at our reserved time, and after a moment or two, our waitress offered choice of tap water, bottled water or carbonated water. We passed on appetizers, and Marjan selected the special wahoo, my choice the mahi offering. The offered sides were, as expected, delicious vegetables. But Marjan's wahoo entree was frankly, a disappointment. This fish is somewhat firm by nature, but her dish was sadly overcooked, chewy and dry. The portion of my mahi was moist and tender, easily the better of the two entrees. But we thought both dishes somewhat lacking in seasoning, and skimpy on sauce. We paired our dinner with glasses of White Haven and Pine Ridge. We found ourselves on the horns of a dilemma, discussing our rating of Savant. We were torn between 3 and 4. We always enjoy outdoor seating, and the courtyard offered a pleasing, romantic ambience. The staff was appropriately attentive, and our waitress very knowledgeable of the menu. But reviews had been lavish in praise of the offerings, and we had a different experience. Perhaps other menu items would be stellar, but we probably would not return mindful of price to value issues. read more

Another night the braised short ribs were equally amazing. Swordfish was also delicious. New York strip was okay. The Bibb lettuce salad and the arugula salad were delicious.
