We went on the Virgin Island food tour and were introduced to Zeny's restaurant. During the food tour we had a small entrée of rice and beans, chicken and plantain, and everything was excellent. The next day, my husband and I went back and I got the fried tilapia entrée with rice planted, and it was just as good. If not better than the day before. If you're lucky you're able to meet Miss Zeny and she is amazing. She will take good care of you while in her restaurant. This is a great local restaurant and you feel the love soon as you want. The food was great..tastes like home cooking, because it essentially is! The place is small and very humble looking..but it was good. I make this dish myself (puerto rican style) and I beleieve this was the Dominican version. Zeny welcomed us and was very softspoken and kind. My bf had the conch and he wasn't a fan of the texture, but that has nothing to do with the cooking itself! Nice to support unassuming local businesses...please go! Open daily till 8 PM, Zeny's is serving real food. On our trip to St. Croix, we ate at some 'recommended' spots only to be let down because it tasted touristy. We wanted flavorful food that tasted like the islands and was made by the people of those islands. Zeny's was it! I got some of my favorites: curry chicken, arroz con gandules (rice and pidgeon peas), maduros (plantains), and sancocho (the Sunday special). SO GOOD. And the ladies were so sweet! Definitely adding to my list of restaurants to visit when I come back to the island. One of my favorite meals I've had since we've been here. read more

Mediocre food that was mostly either over salty on the pork chop or very dry seasoned rice with beans that are better most anywhere with little flavor. The salad was some dry clump of lettuce with half a sliced tomato. The service ok but disorganized and slow while kitchen was over 45m for simple items. We were looking for local flavor and flare and we found it! We enjoyed ice cold Presidente beer along with fried pork chops, a salad, and flavorful seasoned rice. We were treated like family, though our wonderful waitress wouldn't come off the recipe for her delicious, homemade pepper sauce and hot sauce. (Can't say I blame her. It's got to be award winning.) I'm giving this place a 2 star for 2 reasons...the curry chicken entree was excellent however the salad fell extremely short. As well as the service. Service was horrible. The waiter was rude and took our order by pointing at each of us. Our salads came as shredded lettuce...and we helped ourselves to cans of soda from the fridge. Of all the places we've eaten in the island, this was by far the worst. I will say I changed this from a 1 star to a 2 star after the fact that the owner approached our table asking how the food was and was extremely nice. She really saved this review. read more

Zenny's is my favorite restaurant for Stew Goat, usually available on Tuesdays only. Whether you are eating in or taking away, the food is real good, the hospitality is excellent and the Cruzan ambiance is hard to beat. Try some of the other offerings, with sides of white or seasoned rice, simple side salad and tostones (fried plantains) make for a "muy delicioso" meal. read more

Zeny's was part of our locally guided food tour early in the week and it was so good we decided to return for our final meal on St. Croix. This is legit Caribbean/Dominican food in a humble little spot in town, served with loving hands by the owner. We had huge plates of stewed chicken, curry chicken and fried pork chops. All served with really well seasoned beans and rice and sweet plantains. This is a spot the locals clearly love -- they were packaging up dozens of to go boxes for a church event on a Sunday morning. One of the best experiences from our 10-day trip was easily stumbling upon Zeny's Bar & Restaurant. It's exactly what we were looking for in our vacation. Authentic Caribbean cuisine! We had the Sunday Special Sancocho which was as flavorful as I've ever had; the Chuletas Fritas (fried pork chops); and the Curry Chicken. All came with a more than generous side of seasoned rice and maduros (plantains). Everything was made by pure love by the women who work there. Like your mom, grandmother or aunt was making a meal just for you. All were delicious. Seriously! Some of the best Caribbean food I've ever had. It was worth every dollar and may I add that the dollar goes pretty far here. Sure, there's room for something easy like the quick and recognizable environment at Shupe's. And of course, room to splurge at places like Too Chez or Ama. But I can't stress how satisfying for the heart and soul a visit to Zeny's will be. The food is straight up better plus helping people who are really from the island and have been for years that have fought against natural disasters and now a pandemic. Please show your support. After an entire of snorkeling with great company, we were told to come down to this spot if we wanted authentic island food. Being a natural skeptic, I was not sold at first, but upon making my way down the street, we happened upon the establishment. We were not disappointed. The only thing saving this from being rated as a 1 star was the fact the food was great and a pleasant woman came out from behind the back to check how the food was (I assume this was the owner). I'm very big on service and just like another commenter stated, the server was horrible. The grumpy man that worked behind the bar was also the individual responsible for taking my order. This man was absolutely HORRIBLE. Grumpy took my order by looking at me; there wasn't even a hello. Also, I wasn't afforded the opportunity to order a drink because he walked away as soon as I said "curry chicken". So I decided to go and get my own drink. It was as if me coming in and sitting down somehow ruined his day. I wasn't sure if he was rude just to me, so I observed his interaction with others. Well, luckily he doesn't discriminate; he was rude to everyone. This man managed to single handedly ruin the entire experience. Had this restaurant not employed this man, or at least kept him away from customers, I would have rated it much higher. As I stated, the food was great, as was the women from the back that inquired how I was enjoying the food. I'll take "average food and great service" over "good food and horrible service" any day. Just to put this in perspective, at minimum, I tip $20.00 if the bill is under $100. If the service is exceptional, I may tip up to $30. The other night I went to a restaurant and the bill was just about $40.00. The service was great, so I gave a $25.00 tip. This man was so awful, I tipped only $5.00 & that was being more than generous. read more

The food was really good. Nice flavor to the seasoned rice, fried fish with creole sauce was very tasty, and my husband's curry chicken was flavorful as well. Healthy portions also. Don't go into Zenny's thinking you're going to a five star, upscale restaurant. Think down home, make yourself at home and get ready for a good meal. Yes, you have to help yourself to the various drinks in the beverage refrigerator but so what?? The owner, who I assume was a mature woman with limited English and an infectious smile.
