You need your energy to dig through the bins. This location is pretty big with plenty of space. I like that they're constantly rotating bins through the day, so you're not left with the least favorable items mid day. It feels very organized here which is good for the amount of people that shop here. Another plus: pay the pound. We got loads of stuff for only $25!

The Ciccone family has origins from Naples, Italy. The family-owned market specializes in fresh produce, freshly baked breads, prepared dishes, various Italian imports, and catering services. In 2009, the Ciccone family purchased the Orange Street Market in New Haven's East rock neighborhood and turned it into P&M's second location. A third location opened in Hamden in 2022, but it closed down the following year. In recent years, Mario & Maria have taken a step back and let their sons Bruno and Joseph "Pino" take over. Bruno handles business at the original Branford location while Pino runs things at the New Haven location. Pino also owns Enoteca Cassanova (a liquor store), which is right next to the New Haven location. My family and I just visited P&M Orange Street Market for the first time. This was our first visit to either of P&M's locations. We really liked the market which featured a lot of great fresh foods, prepared dishes, and other products. But the main reason we came to P&M was for their pizza! Beginning in 2024, P&M began hosting "Pizza on the Patio" every Wednesday from 4-8pm throughout the warmer months. Their pizza trailer parks in front of the storefront and slings up delicious wood-fired pies. The chalkboard menu changes up every week, depending on which ingredients are fresh and available. After looking over the menu, we ordered and shared a "Cheese Pizza", the "High Heat" (Margherita w/ cherry peppers & hot honey), and "The Charmer" (circular panini w/ burrata, mortadella, arugula, cherry tomatoes, topped w/ EVOO, balsamic glaze & crushed pistachios). Holy moly! This pizza was fantastic! Excellent sauce and just the right amount of char around the edges of the crust (which you don't always see with wood-fired pizza). All of the toppings tasted super fresh too! "The Charmer", which was essentially a panini-pizza hybrid, was very interesting. The friendly staff told us that it was the first time it was ever featured on the menu. We really enjoyed our experience at P&M Orange Street Market and hope to return for another pizza night soon!

Much of the merchandise looked like it was 4 to 10 years old mixed in with one or two small displays of new merchandise. The store was very crowded, and it was difficult to navigate the aisles. It was apparent that there wasn't enough staff to merchandise the displays appropriately. There seems to be a good selection of sizes, but nothing really looked like you couldn't live without it. I know there are supply chain issues, but Marshalls used to be my go to place for items that were marked down because it was just off-season. I do hope the buyers if they are experienced, will resume finding quality at a bargain price.

We even have a $40 gift card we received from one of those "Crazy Deals" promotions (basically you buy a certain item, in our case, a log splitter and they give you cash back in the form of a gift card) and ever since we have not been able to find anything we want to spend it on. Maybe we stop in because it is right next to the Shoprite that we frequent or maybe it's the circulars that keep us coming back hopeful, but other than that, not really sure why we keep coming here. Maybe that will change once the Big Lots in East Haven (near Home Depot and Boston Market) opens.

This is also the place I go to get fresh shrimp in town whenever I'm having people over for dinner. Whenever I am struggling to find something, the staff have always been quick to help. I'm also writing because Tom was so gracious today! I had lost my special Asian-fit sunglasses yesterday, and when I called the store to ask if I might have dropped them somewhere in the store, Tom sent me a photo so I could confirm that they were mine before I went to pick them up! I so appreciate his kindness and the fact that this authentic Chinese grocery store exists within walking distance of downtown.
