This place was so weird…read more The guy at the register seemed like, hungover or something, and it just... took him a while... I hope he wasn't having a mini stroke. The item I purchased rang up at a higher price than what it said on the shelf. Never a good sign. Everything was really expensive, except for a few things on sale - like, I managed to find a single-serve yogurt on sale for $2.50 instead of $4.59. They have some bulk herbs and teas, but the selection is very, very limited. They have a couple water dispensers in back which is nice, but there's no price listed anywhere. I really want this kind of place to survive..... but it's just so pricey; and then the service wasn't great either.

What's your inside the store has a pretty cool layout they got some cool this kind of items on sale near the check out. This place has a great variety of snacks munchies they even have non-alcoholic beer and it even have THC fuse drinks a lot of stuff I've seen before at other health foods but some I've never seen before as well they even have a Fair selection of wine. Staff here was overall helpful and friendly. Store was very clean and I did like the layout it also wasn't too busy at all but the aisles can't be a big claustrophobic. Overall solid recommend for a healthy store

I'd never gone to this particular location before, though, because the address made me nervous. But this weekend I was out of a few things and in a hurry, so decided to brave it. It turns out I had nothing at all to worry about. This was just as good as any other Aldi, and it was a perfectly safe place to shop. I've shopped at several different Aldi locations, so if I think of the best Aldi I've ever been to as getting 5 stars, then this would be a 4-star. The only reason it gets a ding is that it was missing some of the baking essentials that I've been able to find at other Aldi stores. However it does have one nice service that I haven't seen at other locations. Normally if you forget to bring your own bags you have to hunt through the store to find empty boxes to put your groceries in. This location, however, collects the empty boxes and brings them to a bin in the front of the store for you. That's a nice touch. This is one of the most ethnically diverse stores I have shopped in. It was particularly cool watching a woman walking home with groceries in both arms and a 24-pack of bottled water perfectly balanced on her head.

I may go to McGonigle's for tasso and boudin, and Hy-Vee for shrimp and gas money, but this is where I do my everyday shopping-overall, a cart full of plain old groceries costs me less here than Hy-Vee, Price Chopper, or Sunfresh, and it's as close to my house as anything else (I REFUSE to do WalMart). While Festival doesn't harken back to the days of the original "box store", it's plain inside, but clean. There's no floral shop, but they have pretty much every other department you'd find at the snootier grocery stores: deli, salad bar, bakery, pharmacy, a small liquor department. And in this transitional neighborhood, that's enough. Unlike another reviewer, I have no problem with the quality of their meats, and they nearly always cost less than other places. And I have yet to find a better bagel than their bakery's honey wheat or multigrain. Sadly, I can't buy Roasterie here-they tried a limited selection for awhile, but it just didn't sell well enough in this mostly working class area. Probably because of the growing ethnic diversity of the area, there's a fairly expansive selection of Mexican food, and you can buy Halal meat (whatever that is) and a whole goat (with prior notice)! The employees are always friendly, and the manager always at least nods and says "Hi, thanks for coming in." That, and the low prices, have kept me coming in every week for the last 11 years.

Opening in August of 2020, during the thick of a global pandemic must have been difficult. Nonetheless this community made it happen! Unfortunately this location will be closing permanently in 7 days so this review feels differently to write, but I wanted to make sure I took time out before the end of the year to recognize an amazing business concept. The Merc Co+Op is more than your average grocery store, unlike corporate chains they are completely independent owned by the community that shops there (and by you, if you choose). The first storefront opened in 1975 in downtown Lawrence with just one employee and a committed group of volunteer member owners. Over the last 50 years, The Merc Co+Op has grown from a single employee to a staff of nearly 100. The Merc Co+Op provides our community a place to shop, gather, eat, and learn by offering real food and sustainable products at reasonable prices through cooperative ownership and responsible commerce. From the kitchen use to the classroom events this space was needed and I'm glad the Merc saw this vision through. Unfortunately, I believe that with the pandemic and the economy right now it's hard for families to afford making an entire meal with the prices local farmers charge. Maybe this concept would've been better in a different location? Although, I live in the KC metro area July was my first and last visit because it seems out of the way compared to other stores I have to grocery shop as well. It could be a number of things, but it doesn't make it any less painful to let go of a great place! I really hope this isn't the end of the The Merc Co+Op franchise, but a pause before something new and just as meaningful blossoms. I hope this review is a moment to recognize everything this business means to many of us. The impact, memories and community won't disappear with the doors of this location closing. Thank you trying your best and creating opportunities for us to have food that is nourishing to our bodies. Forever grateful!!!
