I am not sure if they were short staffed but every time and by that I mean four times that I tried to catch up with a employee they disappeared or when I made eye contact, they seem to duck and walk away. I just needed help finding two items and that was not the case. Finally, I found someone who was sitting on the floor and couldn't run for me Because she was stalking, but when I asked her about something, she literally rolled her eyes and told me that it was either on aisle three or eight. read more

This was our go-to store for years, but things have really fallen to pieces recently. This is entirely due to a decline in service. In switching their rewards 'perks' card recently, they decided to proceed without a plan such that there really is no rewards plan anymore. Further, their self- checkout lanes (the larger ones) are always closed. This would have not been a big deal, but we really prefer to bag our own groceries in an effort to protect them from the outright abuse they receive in the hands of the baggers. (Honestly, no baggers is a better system to produce-dropping and heavy items on top of lighter, more delicate ones). I feel so persnickety writing this, but I truly hope management sees this- for other's sake -because we're unlikely to continue using Hy Vee. read more

I want to lead this off with some mad respect for everyone not only hustling throughout this ridiculously long-lasting pandemic, but also one of the coldest stretches in KC weather history. That being said, I ain't coming back here for a long time. We've pivoted to grocery pickups of late, and most spots are great. Hy-Vee bombed it. The communication was decent, and that's about the extent of it. When I pulled up to the stall, it looked like that chaotic scene in E.T. when the scientists take over the house. There were bright headlights and floodlights and idling cars. Workers were running all around (again, mad respect). There was no rhyme or reason to any of it. People were getting out of their cars upset; I didn't notice it for a while, blissfully scrolling in my car. Before I knew it, it had been well over a half hour from my pickup time. Then 45 minutes. Crazy amount of time to just sit there, and honestly I could've shopped myself three times over in that time span. When they finally made it, they crammed the groceries in so fast and furious that a bag broke and a couple items hit the deck. They had to run back in to restock them (I would've been fine with them how they were, and I was super anxious to go). The process took so long that the dinner I picked up on the way had to wait for another day, as it got too cold and way too late in the night to eat it. Whole Foods & Wal-Mart have been nailing the logistics of the grocery pickup, and surely others beyond those two. Hy-Vee isn't my favorite in general, and them flubbing the process so badly will have me staying away for a while. read more

I'm as close to this store as several others, and I go here sometimes if they've got a great sale going like they did recently on Coke products, but it's just not an aesthetically pleasing place so it's not my go-to for groceries. I know a lot of people don't give 2 youknowwhats about stuff like that, but I do. The staff is always very helpful and polite, the store is always stocked well, and they have a great Health Food area with an especially huge selection of Kombucha, Greek yogurt, and non-dairy milks. I hope the store gets an updated look like many other Hy-Vee's have. read more

The biscuits and gravy are delicious and if you want something a little more simple, get the morning melt on your choice of biscuit or muffin with egg and sausage, ham, or bacon- delish! Chef Paul cooks up some good stuff back there and when you're done, pick up your groceries for the way home. There are plenty of tables and booths to choose from for dining. Try it out! read more

Now that the remodeling is mostly finished, which was a long and made for a relatively frustrating shopping experience, the Hy-Vee is much improved! The staff there has always been courteous and helpful, but now I can find things more easily and the whole place seems cleaner. The meat counter employees are especially wonderful. They always ask what I'm making and offer to precut it to meet the recipe needs, which I appreciate as a person who has had a run in with a knife while cooking here and there. Saves me some effort and they typically make helpful suggestions! read more

Today was the final straw. I would rather get an awake colonoscopy with a cheese grader than suffer through the colossal waste of time that is Hyvee online aisles. In my two years as a customer, they have never once gotten my order correct. Frequently they charge me for items and conveniently forget to put them in my bags requiring me to drive back to the store a few hours later. Items they claim are out of stock are most certainly in stock when I go back into the store. Based on this and the produce I am given, I can only conclude the employees who do the shopping must be blind or purposely vengeful. Today was an even worse experience - it took them 45 minutes to tell us that they misplaced our order and they simply didn't have it. I was dumbfounded. Still after the long car ride home I am unable to comprehend why it takes them 45 minutes to figure that out. The level of stupidity and chaos that epitomizes this operation is absolutely astounding. If you are considering using online aisles - I would encourage you to rethink or at least mentally prepare for the inevitable agony and anguish. Tl;dr: I could train blind dogs to do their job better than the employees here. Scholars should study this catastrophic failure. read more

Prices are usually fair to a bit high, but that's what you get for a store that's open 24/7. Bathrooms are a mess, but otherwise the store is relatively clean. Meat counter is really good, although watch out for frozen items like twice baked potatoes or other sides. That can be a crappy surprise if you are grabbing something for the grill on the way home from work. My wife thinks produce is just ok and the salad bar is subpar. I'm not sure what the army of store managers do all day, but the one thing they don't do is bag groceries. They absolutely refuse to bag groceries when the store is busy or short staffed. They have mastered the art of looking busy or hiding behind the customer service desk. It's bad enough that I've considered switching stores. read more

Disappointed to buy these Roma tomatoes two days ago only to see they were moldy. They were shrink wrapped in this tray with plastic wrap. Were they disguising produce that was past its prime? I thought it was odd the Roma tomatoes were prepackaged as I've always found them merchandised so you could pick the ones you wanted. I won't make that mistake again. read more

This is my neighborhood grocer - what kind of person would I be if I knocked it?! When the ownership changed over - I was a little bitter though (I think I was 10 years old). Schnook's Supermarket, family-owned was run out of business by the damn union - and in its place came the Hy-Vee (a little less familiar, a lot less family, and the damn union must have been happy) but I gradually came to accept it as 'family' enough - for Christ's sake, it's in Prairie Village - it has to scream FAMILY to keep their clientele: young moms, neighborhood residents, and senior citizens. I rebelled when my dad would bring home generic Hy-Vee food (I thought it was less quality and he only bought it when the economy was doing bad so seeing it triggered some sort of 'crap, we're tight this week' mechanism in me). BUT as it turns out, more times than not Hy-Vee food produces actually the same quality food as other bigger name-brands and this is true of the following food items (in my opinion and experience after years of trial and error of Hy-Vee products): 1. Oatmeal 2. Frozen fruits and vegetables 3. Canned fruits and vegetables 4. popcorn 5. Yogurt (their whipped yogurt was actually my favorite brand to purchase because it was surprisingly soooo good and light - but I believe they stopped making it, so never mind!) BUT HV peanut butter is not as good as JIF, HV chips and nuts and most snacks are not as good as the name brand version. I loathe HV bread but I like their jelly. It's a tossup - you just have to go for it. HV milk is great, so is their butter and sour cream, etc - and purchasing it over the years has no-doubt saved my family hundreds of dollars in the long run, which I am grateful for. I don't think their cafe is as good as the cafe in the Hen House in Corinth or the Cosentino's in Brookside - in fact, I've never eaten there, never purchased a dip or pre-made sandwich there and I don't plan to while I have at the other grocers. But that's alright - I can buy more food here, period, than I can at the other stores because they are clearly more expensive (and nicer looking) but more expensive nevertheless. So I give my points not for beauty and general allure, not for fabulous cafe quiche or bakers bread - but for the prices, low and keeping me going through this tight, TIGHT economy. read more

The remodel and layout look great. The health section is more open and they offer healthy alternatives in many aisles. I was there 630pm on a Sunday and witnessed some we'll call it dismissive behavior by the younger stockers and sackers. I witnessed one young when whining about not wanting to sack when he was told. When I went to pay I thought I'd stepped into Aldis. Three young men were standing by a register playing catch with an eyeglasses case while all but one line had to bag their own groceries. I know good help can be hard to find but they've hit the jackpot with some of these gents. I was just in Traders 30 minutes earlier and the help and friendliness put this Hyvee to shame. read more

Pros: The managers don't know how to properly price things so you can usually find things cheaper than they should be such as 90/10 ground beef at or below the 85/15 price. Many other gems like this throughout the store. Good produce section. Cons: Staff is not helpful, a lot of younger employees so like a training issue. The last trip they could even put my phone number in correctly to receive my fuel saver points. Store is very disorganized and it is impossible to find pricing for some items in the store, did not get any price checkers in the store so it always leads me leaving things at the cashier or having to pick up two or three of something and then decided once they are all rang up. All in all there are better options around, I no longer shop here unless it's just 1-2 items and I happen to be driving by. Also don't forget that you're payi g more just for being in KS. read more

Things felt good for my first day in the world after my 14 day quarantine and the much needed trip to HyVee. Good, meaning most people were respectful of what is going on the world. Respectful and conscientious to give space even when passing in an aisle, or pausing in front of a shelf where someone else needed to shop. All until the final que. I knew, I had planned to unload my cart from the front onto the conveyer belt, using my carts length to keep the next customer off of me. Then the time came when the bagger really needed my cart to deposit the bagged groceries. I, reluctantly pushed it down to the bagger and like a parasite filling a vacuum, "swoosh" came the oh so eager person to get their things on the belt! Now, what am I supposed to do? The checker and I already complimented your company for installing the nice sneeze guards. And she lamented the fact that some non-thinking patrons go and stand right beyond the guard, just breathing coughing and whatever as if they are oblivious to what should be happening. Much like the crazed person that is now inches from me...I remain standing patiently at the plexiglas guard as I am processed at the check-out! I did not dare turn to say anything for I did not want to turn toward her for fear. Real fear. Not fear of confrontation but fear of her possible spittle at this waaaay less than 6 foot distance should there be any conversing. If I could have conjured a huge stinky blast from my backside at that moment..I would have let it rip into her nostrils that were breathing DOWN my BACK! I have not been that close to any human being for 14 days when a colleague sat next to me at lunch and then tested Positive for the Covid-19. This my first day out..I had to be pounced on to do business there. Please. Please...mark that area better, do something to help keep people moving where the lines get 3+ deep awaiting checkout! And Please put a red taped area asking customers to be in the red check out Square/ belt area ONE at a TIME!!! Please we want to help keep you...and us in business. For that gal in such a hurry....I hope you have more time on your hands than you know what to do. read more

It's your typical big chain grocery store. The produce is sub-par and as a vegetarian, want-to-be health nut, not a lot of options. My husband at the other end of the spectrum, loves the donuts they make in the store. One major pro is that this store is 24 hours, which very few places are in the area, so it's great for late night runs for basic items and snacks. The look of the store is pretty blah and the cleanliness is just adequate, but not great. read more

The cashiers up front are fine, haven't had a bad one, have had a few good ones (older lady on overnights, dunno if she's still there, I quite liked her). But mostly the cashiers are just there. Hy-Vee on State Line Road is my choice for grocery staples and produce. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the store is clean. I do not like the butcher counter here for meat or fish (instead, I opt to go to Cosentino's Brookside Market or McGonigles Market, choosing a higher price for superior quality). And one must be somewhat discerning when selecting fresh vegetables (several times I have had to walk away from a collection of rather sad bunches of kale), but overall, I do find the produce to be good. For dairy, Hy-Vee carries Shatto Dairy milk, butter and cheese curds. Because some grocery stores do not stock this brand, I find this noteworthy. A new feature at this grocery is delivery service. Above a certain cost, customers may place and order and have food delivered to their doorsteps. read more

I've been a loyal shopper at this store for several years, but I have noticed a steep decline in the past year. While the store has been under a reorganization and improvement plan for some time now, the quality of the merchandise has suffered. Twice in the past month the store has sold me expired meat, which is completely unacceptable. After the first instance, I requested a refund and a replacement product. I was told that the Meat Department manager would be in touch regarding the product. Never heard from him. This week I returned and in my hurry, did not check the expiration date. Expired. It's not just meat either. I've picked up condiments and other shelf products that are within days of their expiration. There has been a major leak in the ceiling in the produce department for weeks. They just move a shelf of open fruits and put a bucket nearby. The ceiling is open and I'm sure it's splashing on the produce. Even after the redesign, the entrance of the store has remained a nightmare bottleneck, made worse by a RedBox machine and the Community America desk immediately in the entrance. This store is just not designed for efficiency of those in a hurry. read more

Today I needed 6 ounces of nappa cabbage and there was only one VERY large cabbage for sale. I was delighted to be offered help by the people working in produce. They tore off the right amount for my recipe rather than me wasting the entire head. Maybe that was routine service, but I wouldn't have done it on my own and didn't expect it. My complaint is a very specific one, so it might not be all that useful to everyone, or even come across as a bit of whining, but, eh, I have to vent. I went to this Hy Vee today to have flowers delivered to a colleague's wife, who is having health issues. There was a very nice bouquet there, actually on sale for $20. It was the perfect bouquet, and a great price. I asked at the counter if I could have it delivered. "Of course!" they said. After getting the information and informing me there was a $10 delivery fee (not a surprise at all), they gave me the total--$48.93. For a $20 bouquet, mind. I asked about that, and they informed me there was a charge for a vase and labor--evidently they're going to put a little more greenery around the bouquet. I used to go to Hy Vee's florist all the time, generally at the Martway location in Mission. I'm not sure now. And, yes, I could have said no and walked out. I tend to get a "deer in the headlights" look when walloped with an unexpectedly expensive charge, though, so I was about three blocks away before I thought, hey, wait, why did I...? So, yeah, my fault. But, still, I found it excessive. read more

This particular location is convenient to some of our nearby destinations and a great place to pick up a food item, birthday card, flowers, of something you forgot on your regular grocery store run. Having a grocery store close to where you live & work (as this one is for me) is a plus in anybody's book, but the quality of the store, & the helpfulness of the staff when needing assistance, is an A+ all around. I always try to go through Janice's checkout line when there ... she is so helpful & fun to talk to. Cheryl at customer service is always cheerful when selling me my lottery tickets (I WILL win powerball one day, & become a full-time professional Yelp reviewer!!! This I promise!!!) Dale in the deli is always ready to serve me up some meat; always fun to chat with. This location is also open 24 hours, so any late-night needs are met with ease. Since this location is on the Kansas side, only beer is served. The review for the Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits is separate, since it's a separate building/location. read more

This HyVee is ooooo, kay, but not my favorite. It is hit and miss. I have been let down by the salad bar on more than one occasion (just do yourself a favor and go to Hen House) and have purchased disappointing fruit. They also don't have the best selection of bread...I think there was ONE Farm to Market loaf last time I was there...c'mon, that place is right down the street. That said, they do tend to have better prices/deals than the Hen House. But if I am looking for special ingredients, no way. read more

We shop at a couple grocery stores, but this is one of our main ones. I find the prices to be much better than Price Chopper, Cosentino's, and many things at Hen House. I'm not sure how it compares to other HyVees, but it doesn't matter, as this one is the closest to where we live. I find it interesting that some reviewers think the produce selection is great, and others find it sub-par. I have to go on the side of there is very little produce I will purchase from there. The only produce I get from there are bananas, onions, boxed organic spinach/lettuce, and maybe an avocado. I prefer Price Chopper, Cosentino's, Whole Foods, or farmer's markets for produce. I love many HyVee brand products, their organic/health section (which they have many organic HyVee brand items,) and some of the local products they carry (Shatto, Campo Lindo - eggs and chickens, Olivia's Oven, and Farm to Market, to name a few. - they also have a great price on Indigo Wild bars of soap!) They are the only ones I know (I'm sure other HyVee stores do as well) who carry a delicious yogurt from Iowa called Cultural Revolution! It is awesome!! I also like their selection of vitamins. I generally don't go for prepared food there, but I LOVE their breakfast muffin sandwiches! Egg, molten American cheese, and your choice of meat (bacon, sausage, or ham) on an english muffin. It is not the healthiest thing, not organic or natural at all, but it is divine. Sometimes I just get it with no meat, but I'm usually a sucker for bacon. Breakfast is made by an older gentleman named John, and he is extremely nice. In fact, I'm always greeted with hellos by everyone, and never find it hard to find someone who is willing to help me. The best part is they are open 24 hours! I've had some great, late-night shopping experiences. They also never judge my periodic purchase of a gossip magazine! read more

BIG COMPLAINT, if possible, DO NOT deal with customer service manager Cheryl? she is downright rude. Was needing some help with a couple of questions about mailing services, and she could not be bothered, said to ask another woman that was at the counter. Cheryl said she was busy, off work at 3, so she couldnt help. Like 15 seconds later, she is on the phone talking to some guy named John....yeah really busy.
