My first time here and it was very calm. It was clean and they had tons of workers around stocking the shelves and available for any questions I had. The Merced Location is particularly stubborn when it comes to their 'sales' of deli items. There is no doubt their chicken strips are great, but good luck getting any unless you get to the store on day one of a three day sale before noon. They're always out by early afternoon and are 'waiting on a truck' the other 2 days. They're either lazy or they're just trying to make better margins on pricier items. Since Save Mart was purchased by a Canadian company the store has taken a nose dive. This review has nothing to do with the EMPLOYEES. I was a customer for many years, that stopped today. Lately I would go in only for one to two items due to the fact I can't hear myself think over the noise the carts make. A few weeks ago I was at the deli and they had no deli meat. It was explained to me the meat was in the store, but no one could find out where it was. (I went to Raleys and they had the deli I was after at a cheaper cost, fluke) also the shopping carts are far from user friendly. I see a mood change in all the departments. The entire vibe is off. It's like a best friend marring that person you know is toxic. I do hope this nothing more than a temporary situation. read more

Cashier Jay ( on the receipt as I could not see a visible name badge) informed me as I was picking up my daughter's Wic that "you people" have to pay crv tax when I had a excess charge. I already knew this but since he was trying so hard to embarrass me in front of other people I let it go. I did inform him that the product that was the culprit was marked Wic approved and I even scanned it with the app and he said I made a mistake and probably went over my benefits. I didn't and the condescending attitude was not appropriate or appreciated. That associate needs another round of training. I was in town for a volleyball tournament. I'm used to shopping at Save Mart in Modesto and the service is always really good. I had to ask for the refrigerated drinks section and the first employee I encountered didn't even look at me or acknowledge me but told me where they were in a very rude and grumpy voice. Once again, I had to ask where a specific item was. I ran into another employee that I asked. This employee did not even look at me or say a word, but rather just pointed to them. I used to like this Savemart. Last few times I've had poor experiences. Today customer service was garbage. Several bouquets of roses in a bucket that said $9.99 so I grabbed one thinking they were on sale. Bearded guy at the register laughed at me when I said they were on sale, then showed me the $14.99 price on the small tag like, "can't you read?" I told him there were more flowers like that I. The bucket and he just said, "...well" and nothing else. Not, "let me check on that for you", not "that's odd, sorry about that." A tough guy facade doesn't require a tough guy approach to customers. I shop here all the time I love there Instacart services. I think their Instacart services are better than Raleys because Raleys only usually has one time a day five or 6 o'clock, but Savemart has every few hours all day long which I like because there's many times I want my stuff immediately and don't want to wait till five or 6 o'clock at night for my items, I think that Savemart's deli could be a little better with communication. But overall I like savemart the prices are better than other places. read more

Yesterday I went there to pick up some stuff for sandwiches and employee chased me out accusing me of stealing and it was really embarrassing. I had my one year-old with me and it was in front of other customers. They need to not do that unless they know for sure someone is stealing thankfully another employee came out and confirm that I wasn't stealing because he had watched me pay for my food, but it was just really embarrassing and I hope that doesn't happen to anyone else read more

Horrible customer service. I have tried and tried and keep getting rude, condescending attitudes from certain cashiers. it's just not worth it. I even complained and was told very kindly by management how sorry they were and they would "retrain" the cashier but when I went back it was even worse. You will get looked down upon and sighed at if you dare present a coupon and don't even think of bringing up "price match" because that will elicit a scoff and snide remark. There is so much more but needless to say I'll be finally taking my business elsewhere. I would NOT recommend. Management should send in family members dressed as different types of people to see how the average person is treated. read more

I have been shopping here forever (20+ years) and I absolutely adore the employees, some of which I have known since they were across the street at the old location. I am always greeted with a smile and a few kind words. Have things changed? I come here during lunch hour to grab a quick lunch/snack or after work for something to dinner but I get really shocked by how busy they get and they have a lot of new faces , today I went with my mother she's very picky the way she likes her deli meat sliced and this young Lady her name starts with an N was so so so patient with her and took her time to make sure my mother was getting the right meat she wanted , I left from there very happy and satisfied not so many people have the patience she has and my mother is very stubborn, but this young lady made my Mother's Day by slicing the meat the way she wanted and also giving her samples so she could get different ideas of which one to pick . Yes, very much so. I will always encourage family and friends to shop at our local Merced Save Mart! Save Mart is mostly known for the fried chicken (yuuuuumm) and fresh produce too. As far as "the service" I find it to be a typical day when I'm there doing my shopping. It's pretty much like any other place of business or establishment that you enter. I believe that the service given is perceived by the friendliness and/or approach that is received when we (the customer)walks up to the register to be checked out. It simply goes both ways. Some of the staff is friendly and others can perhaps work on their selflessness. Lastly, as far as the reviews that I have stumbled upon, SMDH... No disrespect, though why continue to go back to that particular grocery store for your shopping convenience/experience if you find the employees "cashiers" to be "RUDE" or unfriendly. I'm always nice and smile but...The last 10 times I've been there I've only been greeted by two checkers that I've been to. Today the checker Mike didn't say one word to me. I give save mart a 3 star only because they are usually pretty stocked up and employees are pleasant. What I don't like and keeps me from going back is that they don't enforce mask wearing with customers. I feel they don't value customer safety. I hope they change their policy and enforce them.
