I LOVE this organization.... First off, I was opting more towards the cute, little dwarf buns. I have a 7 yr old and SAB said that bigger buns tend to be more calm, especially around children.Hmm I thought, ok! So, I took a look at the buns that were at Andy's Pet Shop (they don't sell pets BTW they work w/ different orgs to rehome) and fell in love with Tutu whom we now call Lulu. She's a medium sized bun. Since then, we have totally fell in love... Our bun is easy peezy! She likes to chill and she gets to have the entire one bedroom apartment although she mainly relaxes in the living room. We let her out first thing in the morning 630am to 1030pm.... Talk about spoiled. Anyway, this org is right about opting for the more bigger buns if you have children rather than by looks. Now, we are looking for a husbun for Lulu (through SAB) and have our first bunny date with a SAB volunteer to assist tomorrow..... yay... hope they like eachother.... if all goes well, my husband and I will build them a 3 level bunny condo.... I LOVE SAVE A BUNNY.... My daughter was very excited to be among the bunnies, and at her first volunteering experience with SaveABunny. Marcy helped to squish the experience and turn it into a negative memory for us. She is a rather mean woman and needs to lighten up on her militant rules. She was impatient with me and my daughter. For goodness sake, we were working for free, did what she asked and it was all done from the heart. You can't get much better then that! I have adopted 6 rabbits from SaveABunny over the years as well as other rabbits from various shelter and rescues. My husband and I had a great experience working with SaveABunny. We were looking for a mate for our little rabbit, Baby. Marcy took a lot of time to teach us about bonding rabbits. We brought Baby to SaveABunny and after a few hours she found a little friend, Daniel. Marcy was kind enough to let Baby stay with Daniel over night to make sure they would get along in a safe place. My daughter BEGGED me for a bunny for her 8th birthday. Of course I had major reservations as I knew a great deal of the responsibility would fall on me. IF, we were to get one, I was sure we were going to get a ridiculously cute dwarf bunny. Thank goodness for the insight and wealth of information provided by the ladies at SaveABunny. Although we did not adopt from their shelter, they painted a realistic picture of the care/costs required. At their recommendation, we ended up with two LARGE bonded bunnies because are less skittish and would better tolerate my 2 rambunctious sons. I completely agree with Ken. Anita probably did something that was a red flag to Marcy, and she absolutely did the right thing: not adopt to her. I am writing from the perspective as both a potential adopter and a volunteer. I adopted five bunnies from Marcy, and, because it is such a well-run, honest, and STRINGENT shelter, I started to volunteer there. As Ken said, Marcy definitely knows her rabbit people -- and she definitely knows her rabbits. What DID go wrong, Anita? Did 10 years sound like too much of a commitment to keep a rabbit alive? Would you rather just buy him, enjoy him for a month, and then stick him in an outdoor hutch, just to forget about him until he dies? Marcy MUST do what she does otherwise she'll keep seeing the same rabbits abandoned again and again. Contrary to what you believe, Marcy's first goal is NOT to adopt her precious rabbits -- whom she knows and loves more than anything -- to any human who comes in.It is to ensure that the bunnies she has have the best possible life -- something that you might not be familiar with if you expect her to just hand over a rabbit simply because you showed up. In fact, irresponsible and self-centered humans are the reason that her shelter has to exist in the first place. If everyone were like you -- not willing to go through the screening process and clearly not ready to take care of a rabbit like he or she should be taken care of -- Marcy, who knows more about rabbits more than anyone I've ever seen, and who IS the Bunny Whisperer, would keep them. If she keeps them, she KNOWS that they'll get good care, the best medical attention, and love. If she gives her rabbits away to anyone who comes in, whether they're worthy to care for rabbits or not, she will have to live with the knowledge that the rabbit whom she cared for so carefully might be neglected or injured. If I were Marcy, I could absolutely not live with that. Could you? It's erroneous and selfish to judge a shelter because it won't throw its animals out to everyone who applies. The fact that there are so many shelters attests to the fact that not all people deserve to have animals. Having an animal companion is not a right, it's a privilege. Clearly you have the wrong idea about that, and I worry about your rabbits. Do you think they're your property? Because if you went to SaveABunny with that attitude, it's no wonder that Marcy turned you down, and anyone who understands that animals are living, loving, intelligent COMPANIONS who deserve the best care, food, medical attention, and love will understand that going to a shelter with the intention to just pick out any rabbit because he's cute and he has no choice but to come with you is wrong and a terrible -- but all too common -- example of speciesism. Not only am I glad that Marcy didn't adopt one of her beloved bunnies -- bunnies whom I know and care for as well -- to you, I wish that no one had. You don't deserve one. Try taking up knitting instead. At least that way you won't neglect or hurt another living being. read more

We fostered a little guy from saveabunny who we eventually adopted. He is a Netherland dwarf who was dumped in San Jose. He has weepy eyes so the shelter intended to put him to sleep, but he was rescued and taken in by SaveABunny instead. Thank goodness they did because he is a beloved member of our family! We were so impressed with the work Marcy is doing that we volunteer occasionally and we attend bunny wellness classes, too. They take in medical needs and overlooked bunnies from shelters that would typically be euthanized. To me, to is angelic work. We will only adopt from saveabunny from now on. I adopted our bunny, Ned, from SaveABunny last October. I'd always wanted a bunny as a pet, but my idea of owning a bunny was keeping it in a hutch and playing with it when I had time. I had no understanding of what a bunny might need. Marcy and Joanne both opened my eyes to how a person should care for a rabbit, and that a bunny is very interactive and playful, that it should be inside, and considered a member of the family. Yeah, both Marcy and Joanne are pretty tough about making sure if you should have one of their bunnies. On the other hand, these bunnies have already had a rotten life, and should not be adopted by someone who will continue the trend. My Ned was in shelters for two of his 2 1/2 years of life. He's now the most beloved pet in history, running around the house, stretching his legs, eating lots of greens. He's learned tricks and sits on my lap for hours. I had no idea what a rewarding experience having a bunny could be. But it was because of the extreme vetting process, and Marcy and Joanne making sure I knew what having Ned entailed, that Ned is getting the love he's so long deserved. If you're sure you want a bunny, SaveABunny is a great place to go. You will get all the support you need, and they will make sure you get a pet that will make you happy, as well as a pet you can make happy. read more

I can't say enough great things about Marcy and this organization. We were novices and she matched us with the perfect bunny. She has been a great teacher and did I mention she matched us with the perfect bunny. Her boarding is a bit more expensive but it's like trusting your bunny with a family member. I had a rabbit I got from a local shelter, and went to Save A Bunny to find a second rabbit to be his partner. Pete, our first bunny, came with us to pick out his new friend. They do have a lot of rabbits up for adoption, and they helped me try out a few with Pete to see who he was a good match with. Bonding rabbits is tough, and it was wonderful to have people to call for help when the bonding took the occasional down turn. Marcy is amazingly knowledgeable about rabbits. I was so impressed with my experience there, I have become a volunteer since then! And, it is true, they do screen prospective adoptees. Rabbits are meant to be indoor companion animals, and if you plan on keeping your rabbit in the back yard, you will not be able to adopt from Save A Bunny. But, really, anyone who wants to bring a rabbit into their home to live with and love, and has the attitude that animals need to be cared for and treated with compassion, will have no problem adopting a rabbit from Save A Bunny. And, honestly, how much fun is a rabbit that stays in the back yard, when it is 8PM and raining and you are watching TV? Our rabbits love to watch TV with us, especially if they get pettings while we watch! read more

I came across Save a Bunny when i was looking for boarding for my almost 15 pound rabbit. Let me tell you, good bunny boading is hard to find, good boarding for giant rabbits almost impossible. Marcy and her crew of amazing volunteers took exceptional care of my "Bunzilla", even though she was not fully spayed and was spraying and very agressive. They even recommended an awesome local specialist to help me get the rest of her hormone factory shut down. Since then I have been working with them to try to find her a companion. Also not easy to try to find a dominant giacantour rabbit a sweetheart (especially when I would really like another big bunny), but they have been really helpful and very knowledgeable. The rabbits get extraordinary care. I could not believe how clean and organized the operation is - very impressive. It's definitely not a place where you can expect to waltz in and walk out with a new pet. Which is as it should be. But if you are interested in a companion rabbit that is a good fit for you, and are willing to take a bit of time to get it all right, I could not recommend them more highly. read more

Saw some bunnies at a local pet store and decided I wanted to pick up a bunny after my finals. Did the research and had my room already set up to accommodate a bunny. The local pet store that I went to told me that the whole adoption process is done through the SaveABunny organization so I've sent in an application online through their website and waited. it was until maybe the first week that I was told that the process takes about two weeks so the SaveABunny to test potential parents and to give them time to think about whether or not they still want to adopt. Once they think the time is right they will give you a call. The lady from SaveABunny that services around this area called me, she is nice and informative, answered more questions and told me about how the process of adoption would take place. So the first visit they will come over to inspect the area that the bunny will be in and educate and then there will be one or more visits to have the bunny come over and decide a bunny. I understand that the SaveABunny wants their bunnies to go to loving homes, but at the same time, this process took way too long. When I asked the associate when she can visit she told me the following week and I just couldn't wait since I've already wasted so much time. That same week there was an adoption show from Rabbit Haven so I visited their first showing, waited a week to go to their second showing after deciding on a bunny, and picked up my bunny, Koa. A week versus about a month of wait time, price is also cheaper at Rabbit Haven, and the rabbits are taken care of through a foster home system instead of being displayed in small cages at my local pet shop. Don't bother emailing SaveABunny, you'll just get an automated email and that's it, calling them is a hit or miss. Overall, they are dedicated hard-working people wanting their rabbits to go to good forever homes but the wait is just ridiculous. read more

It sounds like Anita had a lousy experience at Saveabunny, but there must be an understanding of what a rabbit rescue is all about. It is NOT all about getting every rabbit adopted out to everyone who comes in. If that were the case, a lot of the rabbits would either be returned or let loose to be sad strays again. The is about giving the bunnies a last chance to have at least a life where someone actually gives them some love and attention. The organization is picky, as they should be, to make sure that the bunnies will really be loved and cared for for the rest of their lives. It is NOT an easy organization to run. There are harsh decisions to be made and Marcy really knows her rabbits and will not take any chances if she has any doubts about anyone who may want to adopt a rabbit from her. Every day, dealing with getting calls from shelters who are ready to put down (1? 3? 10?) rabbits if they are not taken is stressful to say the least. And not everyone is good for rabbits. If someone gave off vibes that Marcy thought are not rabbit-friendly, then she, rightly so, will not let someone adopt the bunny. What happened, Anita? Did you hesitate when Marcy said that you must keep the bunny indoors? What REALLY happened, Anita, to make Marcy turn you down? "Saying the wrong things" sounds like she read you like a book and Marcy and friends are very good at reading rabbit people. I mean, what the hell are you talking about, a rescue group should do EXACTLY what she did, be VERY picky about who adopts her beloved bunnies. It sounds like you actually stated what makes Saveabunny great, the fact that they really do care and don't just want to get rid of every rabbit in the place. read more

I love them, I spent a lot of time on their website looking at the stories and bunnies, went there thinking forsure it would be one or two of the 8 I was really excited to meet, and when I went there Marcy asked who I wanted to meet, but first asked what my needs and wants and expectations were, she truely tries to make the match for the best bunny pet for you. I met the most amazing bunny rabbits ever, I wanted to adopt them all, I spent about 4 hours there getting to know several to makes sure the fit was right and Marcy too asks to make sure it is a great fit for both, she really cares about these amazing little animals and just wants to see them get a good loving home that is safe and will give these little animals the life they so deserve. I loved the entire staff they really paid attention to all the animals and are the experts in thier field. I would and WILL go back for a "friend" once my bunny and I have some bonding time and she gets some one on one, I WILL go back the shelter for a friend for her. Malcome...=0) read more

I've been a bunny owner most of my life and recently decided to adopt again. After meeting different bunnies through various rescues, I found the bunnies at Save a Bunny to be extremely well taken care of and I love their educational outreach programs. Rabbits are more work than people realize. They aren't just "cute" pets you leave in a cage and Marcy and her workers really take the time to make sure the bunny is going home with an educated owner. I adopted a special needs bunny and was charged more, but I felt it was completely fair. Save a Bunny is a rescue and they survive on donations alone. They rescue so many bunnies and pay for all of their care including medical bills which are expensive. I only felt it was right to pay what I did; I wanted to give back to the rescue for all the work they do. I have a beauftiful bunny boy and I have Marcy and Save a Bunny to thank. They took him in and got him the medical care he needed. It is a well run, clean and professional animal rescue. If you are going to adopt a bunny, I highly recommend you visit Save a Bunny. read more
