This is an amazing place and I don't get the bad reviews. You all have to stop hating just because this place is not fancy or romantic. It is a awesome change from some of the foo foo bistros in old Town Quebec City in that you get a tremendous bang for your buck and quality food cheap at 'Continents. What really gets me is looking at the reviews of this place right after I saw some lady's yelp review of a expensive Quebec City restaurant that complimented the single crispy grape tomato that came with her food. Geez Louise gimme a break. Bottom line if you are visiting Quebec City and happen to have a hot date (or if you want to gawk at people's hot dates) choose the expensive bistro. If you are a tourist with kids, coming to Buffet les Continents is a sure shot and should be a no brainer. It's only a few miles away from the old Town and they have a parking lot. Also kids up to 12 years old are free! Coffee is included too! The salad here was fresh with a decent array of stuff. From cucumbers to tomatoes, spinach to hardboiled eggs. The mussels were tasty, decent sized and not sandy (gotta love that we are in Quebec) and the linguini was cooked pretty well. Meat sauce spaghetti was also pretty good. They had a pretty nice spread overall for a lunch buffet. Pesto pasta, fettuccine, even aisles of food from different continents (hence the name). Hop from one aisle where you go from Greek souvlaki and Greek grilled chicken to the other with mapo tofu and other Asian fare. They also had salmon and several other tasty fishes, and ice cream. Smoked meat at the meat carving station tasted almost as good as the restaurant near my hotel (Radio Cafe in Beaupre) that charged $2.75 extra for a small sprinkling of smoked meat on my poutine. It was no Schwartz on St Laurent in Montreal but it was good. I went back for my third helping of smoked meat. The servers were so gracious. Always telling us bon Appétit and was so happy with the 20% tip we left. It wasn't much being 20% of $15 per adult (and 4 kids eating free) but she was really happy. read more

Buffet are usually a double edged sword for families with little ones.  Yes it gives you up options that everyone can enjoy but when the little one chooses items like fries and pizza you feel like it's just not worth paying for. However at Le Buffet des Continents kids under 12 each free with each paying adult (except for Sats)!  This buffet chain is located throughout Quebec and extremely popular for families with kids. We been to the one in Gatineau near Ottawa a few times and came on a Sunday night for dinner.   Serving a variety of food from around the world some of the notables were Cajun crawfish, smoked meats and even frog legs!  However the real star was the grill where you can order grilled lobster, shrimp and steak! Line up is long for the the lobster and steak and they shut the grill down earlier so do go early.   Sure some items aren't the best but what do you expect at a buffet it was only $22/pp and my kids eat free! Decided to stop by this place for lunch on my trip to Quebec City and it was okay. We got there and this restaurant is huge. Apparently, they have 605 tables with seats which is grandiose and gigantic. Indeed, it looked phenomenal from the outside. Arriving there, we had to wait for at least 15-20 minutes to get a table which is understandable. I saw how many people were walking around the buffets. They have a big variety of foods, Chinese, Canadian, American, Italian cuisines, among others. I took my plate and 2 rounds. The food was okay. Not really fresh and sometimes it was cold. The service was not extra but only one server trying to pass jugs of water and cokes as well as tea or coffee. I'd say it wasn't the best buffet I've ever had but for one time it was fine. I wouldn't return or take my friends there but for the price it wasn't too bad. I was quite disappointed by the quality of foods even if the quantity is a lot but definitely didn't win my tummy and appetite. read more

Le Buffet des Continents is better than I thought, but also kind of meh compared to non-buffet restaurants. There's quite a lot of options - they even have popcorn!. Apart from the usual fried rice and such, there's tacos, French-style snails, roasted lamb, etc. Because we went during sugar shack season, there was also an array of traditional French-Canadian desserts, such as tarte au sucre, pouding chômeur, and even maple-taffy-on-snow! The place is really, really big, with not only Chinese American food, but also "Italian", "Greek" and other "European" dishes. I'm using quotation marks because, well, it's not that authentic, nor was it meant to be. Once you're over the fact that pretty much all buffets serve cheap unauthentic food, it's time to roam around and find the good stuff. Not everything is worthwhile eating. Why bother starting your meal with a soup or salad for the principle of it when you can go straight to the point? In this case, the point being a nice, juicy slab of freshly grilled steak. The buffet's grill station serves steak, lobster, fish and other items, all prepared right in front of you. The downside is that there's only one cook, you can only ask for one item at a time, and the line is long. I personally liked the fried shrimps and lamb chops. The dessert counter offered an array of cakes and sweets, ranging from jello (classic) to the strangest strawberry mousse I've ever seen (see pictures). They only had four ice cream flavors, but the caramel fountain closeby was quite popular. Fresh fruits were ok. Sadly, the salad bar was probably the most disheartening station of all. The lightning there was dim, which gave the cold, rather stagnant piles of seafood and vegetables a grim look. During one meal I saw a heavy lady with a belly shirt, and a few minutes later a guy walks by telling his wife out loud he has to go take a leak. We arrived earlier, and being wait for approximately 10 minutes. The waitresses are pretty nice, informing the wait time and making us seat as soon as the dinner time starts. Surprisingly, there were a lots of foods to choose from, and the quality and taste of the food is pretty above average. Prices are reasonable as well. Were Having a great dining experiences at this restaurant and will definitely come back if visiting Quebec again in the future. A friend of mine was assaulted here by the bartender. If that's not enough to get you to leave right away, let me explain. She ordered a drink - not a difficult one to make, mind you - and when she got it, she found it tasted really odd, so she went up to ask what the bartender had made it with. She was quiet and polite and very patient. The bartender immediately started yelling at her, screaming in her face that he wasn't going to show her shit, that he was a great bartender and she wasn't going to teach him how to make a drink (insecure much, fella?) and shoved his hand into her face. She's a quiet, introverted person, so this was more than enough to get her and her husband to leave right away, and I suggest anyone who is thinking of going to this place follows her example and stays far, far away, at least until they get rid of the violently inclined bartender. I don't know if he would have been like that to someone who wasn't a small older woman clearly not capable of standing up to him physically, but why take the chances? Came here for lunch as part of a tour. We signed up because we didn't know what else was there besides McDonald's. The price was affordable for an all you can eat buffet ($20 including tips and tax), but honestly, the food was very average. Highlights included the deep fried (previously frozen) scallop, and mussels in tomato broth. There was a carving station that offered roast pork and roast beef. Everything else was very mediocre. The jello was liquid, not even a solid substance. This restaurant should definitely be held for health inspection. The service wasn't any good either. I don't know what you people are complaining about. We came here twice for brunch and it was awesome. We got 2 great servers and my husband has dark skin and we didn't have a problem. The food was really good and they were very on top of refilling the buffet, cleaning the tables, and bringing us drinks. Our server the first time didn't have the best english but she tried her best and was able to tell us about how at the end of the day all the leftover food is donated to homeless shelter when I asked about it. She is happy serving customers who speak French but did not serve us at all. I raised my hands and called madam but the waiter just went away without a word. I have to stand up to locate the waiter to get water for myself. What's worse, the waiter only gave me half cup of cola and want to let me go and I have to ask politely to have a little bit more.
