This place has a fun odd vibe with a cast of characters - if your uptight - DO NOT EAT HERE. If you are looking for fun charm, EAT HERE. Bread, salad, roasted vegetables, and chocolate all very good. The Chateaubriand thay is advertised as thier special was not that cut of beef - more likely sirloin cap. The marbling and fat structure was incorrect - they also carved it completely incorrect for either cut of beef. Not sure how i feel about being lied to - enjoyed the meal as did the other diners in the restaurant. Might go back for breakfast or lunch but never for the Chateaubriand. read more

Absolutely amazing! We came here for dinner and the staff were super friendly and funny. The food was delicious and we even got to taste a maple crepe on the house. The ambiance here is also top tier. The cute decor, the windows, everything was perfect! We also witnessed them take in a group of 10 people 10 minutes before closing time. Tried this place for some classic French food! It did not disappoint. We needed a classic French bistro type place to check off some items we wanted to try on our trip and this once looked like it would fit the bill. I loved the homey feel of the inside seating and I really liked the open windows seats which unfortunately were all taken. The service was nice and fairly quick and friendly. My first Kir Royale cocktail drink was here. And it was just lovely and fruity and bubbly! Crème de cassis liqueur and some bubbly poured on top. Just a classic French drink ! We ordered the French onion soup and the escargot also here. Both dishes were served up steaming hot and just amazingly decadent! Served with French baguettes of course! The soup was nice Rich brothy and cheesy and had nice chunks of bread inside and plenty of onions. Super tasty. The escargot were in a garlic butter and out of the shell so we didn't have to mess with the fiddly part! These were simply Devine and I ate them all! The buttery aspect gets you every time! Served up with more bread than we could eat . This was a pretty hearty snack. It's definitely a great place to get some classics and brunch and a bunch of other great menu options. With all the French decor too it was so nice to feel like I was eating this in France . They had some amazing looking desserts but we were all buttered up ! Small restaurant but full of personality! This was our first time in Canada, we chose to go to Old Quebec because of all the history and the architecture of the buildings! This restaurant had that European feel and we had our first dinner there. We thought people exaggerated about the French Canadians not being nice... sadly we found out as soon as we arrived at the hotel that it was true. But when we got to this restaurant, they were very nice despite our apprehension when we walked in. We don't speak French but fortunately they spoke English here. This has got to be the absolute worst place to eat in Quebec. Whoever is the cook here must have learned how to cook in prison because the food taste like you would expect in a prison. It is some basic quality that you can get out of a can or the frozen aisle at the grocery store. I was absolutely shocked. I made the rare mistake of not checking Yelp in advance of going in here as I got complacent with what is otherwise amazing food at every restaurant I have visited in Quebec City. Today I have learned what a tourist trap is. Suck you in with what looks like a nice place, to serve you some really cheap food at a high price. Amazing service!! The personalized service and friendly people stand out for this restaurant. They made our vacation to Quebec. We were looking for a place that was both kid friendly and had good french cuisine and we found it here. It was so good and the people so nice and thoughtful we went back multiple times on our short vacation. We had the french onion soup, chicken sandwich and and a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch and dinner we had croque monsieur, baked chicken and mushroom crepes and Canadian roasted chicken. The Canadian chicken was succulent, fall off the bone and extremely flavorful. They have a wonderful drink and dessert menu, tasty choices and good prices. They were all delicious, good hearty french cuisine. The waiter and waitress were very attentive and kind to us and our daughter. They went out of our way to make us feel welcome. They have a wide menu for breakfast lunch and dinner. Everything from the ordinary pizza and poutine to the extraordinary french Canadian cuisine like baked crepes. There is something for everyone here and exceptionally nice people. Absolutely love the staff, the owners of the restaurant and the amazing food. I had dinner here with family and it was probably the most pleasant experience during this trip! Both gents that served us were extremely courteous, professional, funny and caring. They made us feel at home! The atmosphere was also excellent. Chicken wings and French onion soup are THE BEST! Our main courses included Chicken Shish Kebab, Veggie Crepe, Crispy Chicken Poutine, Crispy Chicken Burger. The desserts were also delicious; maple and chocolate cakes. Not sure why 3 stars here but this will be our family's choice of restaurant each time we visit Quebec City. Give it a try... While walking around Quebec, we kept looking at menus posted outside some of the restaurants before coming to this Cafe. The menu looked like a good selection of items, both regular fare and fancier food. I joked earlier about eating some "Frenchie-food", or some local Quebecian dishes. So, we went in. I liked the feel of it immediately, and the host was quick to greet us and seat us. There was a guy singing and playing guitar, both French language and American rock standards. He was very good, and entertaining. Service is by committee here, so someone is always coming by making sure you have water or if you need another drink. I had a red ale. For appetizers, I wanted to try the Soupe aux Pois Canadienne (Canadian Pea Soup), which gave me my local food. We also ordered Courgettes Gratinees (Baked Zucchini with cheese and tomato sauce). For my main entree, I chose Beef Bourguignon. My travel girl chose from the Prix Fixe menu, Puff Pastry with tomato and basil app and Quebec Pork Chop in maple sauce for a main. Comes with dessert. Which was pie and chocolate sauce. THE FOOD: The pea soup was delicious. Not creamy like American pea soup. This was pea heaven, wonderful in its simplicity. The Baked zucchini was also fantastic. Tons of flavor in a great rich tomato sauce and cheese bake to perfection. This was the first time I've had Beef Bourguignon and I gotta say, it was superb. The sauce was rich and savory, thick with flavor and just made the meat even better. It came with baby carrots, French beans and red potatoes. All were delicious. Travel girl's puff pastry was light and airy with great tomato and basil flavor. The Quebec Pork chop was done perfectly, moist and tasty. Pie good. We were not in a rush and the restaurant was 3/4 full, so food was slow coming out, but we didn't mind. It was a great atmosphere and a beautiful day. Service was sooo excellent. My friend and I dined here on Friday, February 11 on the Quebec Carnival final weekend. My friend had chicken wings which she said were very good and I had a chicken crepe, which was tasteless. So on balance, I would say that the food and our waiter's service was okay but nothing to rave about. And the facilities need an update. We did notice that the owner, who showed us to our seats, was kind of weird and too familiar, and throughout the meal, his attention became very annoying. The final straw was when we started to leave. He rushed over to help us with our coats and then asked if he could give us a kiss! That was so, so creepy and inappropriate! I am really surprised at all the mediocre reviews. We really enjoyed our meals and the hospitality of this restaurant. The service was great, the host and the waiter couldn't have been nicer. The restaurant is deceptively large. From the outside it looks like a tiny bistro but once you go in, it's 2 levels and huge! The wine list is expansive. We had: Beef Wellington - old school and delicious Filet Mignon - delicious, my girls loved it Beef Carpaccio - delicious Avocado salad - very tasty We didn't get to have dessert because of a "tantrum" situation but I am sure it would have been great. Honestly, one of the worst meals I have ever had at a restaurant in my life. The absolute epitome of a tourist trap. Where should I begin? To start off, the restaurant looks fine from the outside. Flowers hanging from the front of the building and a man playing the accordion. We sat down around 630 or so, and the place was empty for the most part. However, the host asked us if we had a reservation! It's a fairly large space, I doubt the whole place was reserved. Anyway, he sat us down immediately, as if he didn't ask us about the reservation at all. After sitting down, we ordered drinks and appetizers. Our first warning should have been that the appetizers took over an hour to come out! For a place that is not remotely a fine dining establishment, that is ridiculous. I ordered the lobster bisque, of which I had to add a decent amount of pepper in order to add any flavor. My brother and parents ordered the escargot, which was rubbery and flavorless. As the time passed, we wondered where our entrees were. We had been at the restaurant for well over two hours at this point, and not once had the wait staff checked up on us. When we finally asked what the delay was, we were told that there was only one chef working! Anyway, our entrees finally arrived. I had the salmon, which was pretty bland. Everyone else ordered the veal, which was not good at all. It was tough and had no flavor. The vegetables were of the canned variety. The food was subpar, banquet style food. I could have gone to McDonald's and had better tasting food for a much lower price, and no wait at all! I strongly do not recommend this restaurant to anyone who finds themselves in Quebec City. read more

Wandered out into the windy November morning looking for breakfast and really liked the sign outside of the the cafe. They have a full menu available so you can go with breakfast or try out a lunch item. They also have a lot of bakery items and smoothies. Our server was great - very friendly. I went with crispy chicken poutine because when in Quebec you must have poutine for at least one meal. It was just okay. The center part was great with gooey curds and gravy but they piled on so many french fries that the outer part of the meal wasn't covering in cheese or gravy and was pretty mediocre. My breakfast partner loved his asparagus omelette. His home fries were very nice too. They charged us for coffee refills which was an unwelcome surprise (that and the fact they gave us milk and didn't have cream - yuck). I'd return and have the breakfast next time as they had a huge selection of items. read more

Staff was so charming we almost didn't notice how terrible the food was. Seriously, I feel a little guilty writing this, but the food was wildly overpriced and lousy. It would have been run-of-the-mill not-so-great food if served at a cheap diner, but when paying $100 for two, it's a slap in the face. We ordered a chicken and mushroom crepe, which was a ball of damp dough with chicken inside. We are still arguing about whether the chicken was sliced sandwich deli meat, but we agree it had no seasoning. The mushrooms were raw, and there was no sauce. There was a mountain of white cheese melted over the top, but it was so characterless we don't know what type. Despite being undercooked the crepe was dry. It came with an iceberg lettuce salad and more raw mushrooms. We also had the Mussels. They were served dry, no butter, no broth, so you had to wash them down with your drink. We could see spices and herbs of some kind on the mussels but you couldn't taste them because of the dryness. And there were fries... undercooked, kind of greasy, and also unseasoned. Avoid this restaurant until they've hired a chef, or at least a cook. read more

My wife and I have been coming to Québec City for over 30 years. One of the things we look forward to is the cuisine. We selected this restaurant because it was one of very few that had Beef Wellington on the menu. I was looking forward to an exquisite dining experience, but what we got fell well short of that. The vegetables were extremely overcooked. The pastry on the Wellington was soggy. The sauce had far too much salt. My wife had the Table d'hôtes. The salad was essentially Romaine lettuce with dressing. Her baked seafood meal was comprised of scallops and tiny frozen shrimp. Again, everything overcooked and salted to death. On a positive note, the staff was friendly. But that's not enough to get us to return. read more

Fair warning: we didn't eat anything during our visit. We did, however, slip in to get out of the cold and get a beverage. We opted for the Irish Coffee, which we realized later was a bit more expensive than expected...because it was so much more than a drink. It was an experience. Call us lame, easily-amused Americans, but we loved our experience here. The waiter flambéed the drinks while we watched, and both he and the owner could not have been nicer. Cozied up by the fire, we enjoyed our drinks, which were downright decadent and amazing. This place is fantastic, we had a great night here. The decorations are beautiful, the service is great, the live music is spectacular, the owner is really nice too. Even bring maracas to us, let our daughter played along with the musician and took video for us.
