SaviorBack is an appointment-only office chair specialty shop that sells only two brands - Steelcase and Herman Miller. According to some Reddit posts, those two brands are considered top-of-the-line when it comes to office chairs. [Appointment]: SaviorBack doesn't have a brick-and-mortar store and requires customers to book a 60-minute in-person appointment on their website. Please note that the purpose of the appointment is testing out their selection of chairs and SaviorBack will not force customers to purchase a chair during the scheduled appointment time. [Process]: I met a gentleman named Mitchell who is the chair consultant or as I call it the "chair concierge." I met him at the designated storage facilities where all the chairs are stored. Mitchell diligently explained each chair and loved cracking jokes in between. There was no pressure to buy a chair from him as he only focused on providing the best possible test-drive experience on these chairs. I tried several different chairs from the Steelcase Amia to the Herman Miller Classic Aeron to the Steelcase Leap V2. [Purchase]: Mitchell offered in-person discounts and I ultimately ended up with the lightly used Herman Miller Remastered Aeron for $825 (tax included) in a great condition which is much cheaper than what you can find online for a brand new one. I didn't need to assemble the chair since it was already assembled. Mitchell helped adjust it before wrapping it in a plastic bag and safely loaded it into my car. Mitchell said that if I am not satisfied for any reason, I have a week to exchange it for a different chair. [Payment method]: Cash, Zelle, or credit cards are accepted (3.5% transaction fee for credit cards). I made a partial payment with credit card (via a phone call to Taketo and I provided my credit card information) and paid the remainder balance through Zelle using my smartphone. [Conclusion]: I absolutely love the chair I purchased and I think of it as an investment for myself considering I occasionally spend more than 8 hours a day sitting in a chair. Easily the best experience I've had when buying anything. If you're looking for a office chair at the fraction of MSRP, this is the place to go. Appointment was easy to set up. Location was a storage facility that we followed Mitchell into and we were trying out the chairs outside of it. It might sound a bit weird or look unorthodox, but considering the service, education, and price we got, I wouldn't have it any other way. Transaction was handled via Zelle. My favorite part was that Mitchell, the chair consultant, showed us chairs in all price ranges not just the most expensive one. After 10+ years, it was time to replace my office chair. While the old chair was an upgrade from the big box store chair it had replaced, it never felt quite like the "right" chair for me. This time around, I vowed to find a chair that was the "best" for me. This meant I had to go sit on chairs, rather than just relying on the word of others. SaviorBack had overwhelmingly great reviews, so I figured I would give them a shot. I made an appointment on the website, and was contacted by Mitchell the day before the scheduled appointment. He provided me with very clear instructions on where to meet him, as the company's chairs are all stored in a storage facility. As for the actual appointment, I figured I'd be in and out in 15-20 minutes, but I ended up trying out chairs for over an hour. Mitchell took his time showing me the features of each chair, and he insisted that I go back and forth between chairs, and that I put the chairs through their paces, before I made a decision. After trying as many chairs as I wanted to sit on (including a few Herman Miller chairs), I narrowed my choices down to two Steelcase chairs - the Amia, and the Leap. I also liked the Steelcase Gesture, which I thought felt as firm as the seat of the Amia (the seat of the Leap was a bit softer than the Amia and the Gesture); however, Mitchell suggested I go with the Amia, as a lot of the bells and whistles of the Gesture weren't that important to me. Paraphrasing Mitchell, given what I was looking for, he did not think the Gesture was $300 better than the Amia. At the end of the consultation, Mitchell suggested that, if I decided to buy a chair from SaviorBack, I should purchase the Amia and, if I changed my mind within one week, to give him a call to exchange the chair for the Leap. This is exactly what I did a day after I purchased an Amia, as there were some features on the Leap that I liked, and which I thought might be non-negotiables. First, the Leap has four different reclining positions, whereas the Amia merely allows you to lock the recline (so no recline or full recline). However, Mitchell showed me how to increase the tension of the Amia's recline, which allowed me to dial in the amount of recline I wanted. Second, I also liked that you could get a headrest on the Leap, which is not available on the Amia. After a lengthy discussion with Mitchell, I realized the headrest wasn't really a feature I'd use that much. While I could have easily exchanged my Amia for the Leap, which would have cost me a little bit extra, Mitchell's guidance made me realize that the Amia was the "best" chair for me. Having used the Amia for a few days now, I can say that this was a definite upgrade from my prior chair. More importantly, my experience with SaviorBack was great, and I would not hesitate to either purchase another chair from, or to refer my friends to, the company.
