    The salsas that they offer

The placewas a bit trendy for me. We ordered the arranchera tacos, tiramisu cake, and guacamole. The food was okay but the tiramisu was great except they don't make it here. So don't expect this place to be authentic. Our server was not friendly at all but not rude either. The bar upstairs is great for drinks, there's a lot of ventilation, a tv and great view. I'd come back but just for a drink or a snack and no high expectations.

    Great view of the park!

El Pez de Oro - Drinks on the lagoon.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORIBLE!!!!!!!…read more The ambiance is nice, it is right next to the lagoon and seemed relaxing but the place was empty. Should have taken the clues. The horchata had a weird taste and was served at room temperature. I had to request ice to chill the drink. Still I stayed. I ordered a fried fish in garlic sauce, my daughter fried fish in butter and my wife grilled fish. We were hungry so we asked for an appetizer, it never came. We got the food, the first thing I reached out for was the tortillas, they were cold, it was although the cook took it out of the fridge and forgot to heat them, still I did not complain. The reddish rice looked mushy and the tomato had a glazed film over it as though it has been sitting out. The rice was room temperature. I tried some of the fish and it was stale, even seemed a little bad. I had not been to bacalar in a while so I still ate it, I though maybe my taste was off. My wife complained about the fish smell, still we did not complain and ate it. Then in the middle of it my daughter found a dead fly in the her fish head. It was the most horrible experience. I gagged and stopped eating immediately. I complained to the waiter, they did not charge me for my daughter's plate. I then tried to pay with a card, they only accept cash. I did not have any pesos only US, they extorted me on the exchange rate and they ended probably getting more for the three meals on the exchange rate. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! DO NOT!!! NO COMAN AQUI!!! LES DARAN PESCADO O CON MOSCAS ,VIEJO O PODRIDO. TORTILLAS FRIAS, PER DE TEMPERATURA AL FRIDGE. AQUAS CON SABOR PECULIAR, ARROZ FRIO OR AGUADO, VEGETALES PASADAS. EL UNICO QUE ESTUVO BUENO FUE LOS FRIJOLES!!!!!

I visited Bacalar in November, and two months later I'm still dreaming about coming back just to…read moreeat here. My boyfriend and I arrived for dinner without reservations but got there right when they opened and were seated immediately. Our waiter was fantastic. He explained how the restaurant works, offered us a tour, and walked us through the menu with thoughtful, spot-on recommendations. We were brought complimentary chips and salsa, and since we were told our entrées would take 45 minutes to an hour in the wood-fired oven, we started with the ceviche de maracuyá. So worth it. For our mains, my boyfriend ordered the steak and I got the lobster. Both were excellent, but the lobster... wow. I'm from the Bahamas and grew up eating great lobster, and I can honestly say this was the best lobster of my life. Something about the seasoning and the wood-fire cooking made it unbelievably rich and decadent. I haven't stopped thinking about it since. By the time we were finishing our meal, the restaurant had filled up, but it never felt too loud or chaotic. The space felt intimate, with dim lighting, planets scattered throughout the decor, and perfectly spaced tables that made the whole experience feel special. Out of all the places we ate in Bacalar, this was hands down the best, and the one we still talk about.

Our appetizers were 3 raw mushrooms artfully presented with a mish mosh of flavors, and a plate of regular guacamole. The filet mignon was average. We ate much better tasting food at half the price the night prior. Artful : Yes, Flavor: Lacking. Unfortunately, we will not return.
